We prove the existence of the set of ground states in a suitable energy space $Σ^s=\{u: \int_{\mathbb{R}^N} \bar{u}(-Δ+m^2)^s u+V |u|^2<\infty\}$, $s\in (0,\frac{N}{2})$ for the mass-subcritical nonlinear fractional Hartree equation with unbounded potentials. As a consequence we obtain, as a priori result, the orbital stability of the set of standing waves. The main ingredient is the observation that $Σ^s$ is compactly embedded in $L^2$. This enables us to apply the concentration compactness argument in the works of Cazenave-Lions and Zhang, namely, relative compactness for any minimizing sequence in the energy space.
We prove the existence of a solution to the semirelativistic Hartree equation $$\sqrt{-Δ+m^2}u+ V(x) u = A(x)\left( W * |u|^p \right) |u|^{p-2}u $$ under suitable growth assumption on the potential functions $V$ and $A$. In particular, both can be unbounded from above.
We study a class of two-dimensional non-linear Schrödinger equations with point-like singular perturbation and Hartree non-linearity. The point-like singular perturbation of the free Laplacian induces appropriate perturbed Sobolev spaces that are necessary for the study of ground states and evolution flow. We include in our treatment both mass sub-critical and mass critical Hartree non-linearities. Our analysis is two-fold: we establish existence, symmetry, and regularity of ground states, and we demonstrate the well-posedness of the associated Cauchy problem in the singular perturbed energy s…
In this paper, we consider the nonlinear fractional Schrödinger equations with Hartree type nonlinearity. We obtain the existence of standing waves by studying the related constrained minimization problems by applying the concentration-compactness principle. Via symmetric decreasing rearrangements, we also show that the standing waves, up to a translations and phases, are positive symmetric nonincreasing functions. Moreover, we prove that the set of minimizers is a stable set for the initial value problem of the equations, that is, a solution whose initial data is near the set will remain near…
This article is concerned with the mathematical analysis of a class of a nonlinear fractional Schrodinger equations with a general Hartree-type integrand. We prove existence and uniqueness of global-in-time solutions to the associated Cauchy problem. Under suitable assumptions, we also prove the existence of standing waves using the method of concentration-compactness by studying the associated constrained minimization problem. Finally we show the orbital stability of standing waves which are the minimizers of the associate variational problem.
We consider the fractional Hartree model, with general power non-linearity and space dimension. We construct variationally the "normalized" solutions for the corresponding Choquard-Pekar model - in particular a number of key properties, like smoothness and bell-shapedness are established. As a consequence of the construction, we show that these solitons are spectrally stable as solutions to the time-dependent Hartree model. In addition, we analyze the spectral stability of the Moroz-Van Schaftingen solitons of the classical Hartree problem, in any dimensions and power non-linearity. A full cla…
We study existence and stability of standing waves for coupled nonlinear Hartree type equations \[ -i\frac{\partial}{\partial t}ψ_j=Δψ_j+\sum_{k=1}^m \left(W\star |ψ_k|^p \right)|ψ_j|^{p-2}ψ_j, \] where $ψ_j:\mathbb{R}^N\times \mathbb{R}\to \mathbb{C}$ for $j=1, \ldots, m$ and the potential $W:\mathbb{R}\to [0, \infty)$ satisfies certain assumptions. Our method relies on a variational characterization of standing waves based on minimization of the energy when $L^2$ norms of component waves are prescribed. We obtain existence and stability results for two and three-component systems and for a c…
We consider a class of evolution equations in Lindblad form, which model the dynamics of dissipative quantum mechanical systems with mean-field interaction. Particularly, this class includes the so-called Quantum Fokker-Planck-Poisson model. The existence and uniqueness of global-in-time, mass preserving solutions is proved, thus establishing the existence of a nonlinear conservative quantum dynamical semigroup. The mathematical difficulties stem from combining an unbounded Lindblad generator with the Hartree nonlinearity.
The semi-classical regime of standing wave solutions of a Schrödinger equation in presence of non-constant electric and magnetic potentials is studied in the case of non-local nonlinearities of Hartree type. It is show that there exists a family of solutions having multiple concentration regions which are located around the minimum points of the electric potential.
This paper studies the inhomogeneous fractional Schödinger equation $$i\dot u-(-Δ)^s u=\pm(I_α*|\cdot|^b|u|^p)|x|^b|u|^{p-2}u.$$ In the mass super-critical and energy sub-critical regimes, using a Gagliardo-Nirenberg adapted to the above problem, the standing waves give a sharp threshold of global existence versus finite time blow-up of solutions.
Scattering for the mass-critical fractional Schrödinger equation with a cubic Hartree-type nonlinearity for initial data in a small ball in the scale-invariant space of three-dimensional radial and square-integrable initial data is established. For this, we prove a bilinear estimate for free solutions and extend it to perturbations of bounded quadratic variation. This result is shown to be sharp by proving the unboundedness of a third order derivative of the flow map in the super-critical range.
We consider standing waves with frequency $ω$ for 4-superlinear Schrödinger-Poisson system. For large $ω$ the problem reduces to a system of elliptic equations in $\mathsf{R}^3$ with potential indefinite in sign. The variational functional does not satisfy the mountain pass geometry. The nonlinearity considered here satisfies a condition which is much weaker than the classical (AR) condition and the condition (Je) of Jeanjean. We obtain nontrivial solution and, in case of odd nonlinearity an unbounded sequence of solutions via the local linking theorem and the fountain theorem, respectively.
We investigate the NLS equation with competing Hartree-type and power-type nonlinearities \begin{equation*} \begin{array}{ll} i\partial _{t}ψ+Δψ+γ(I_{α}\ast |ψ|^{p})|ψ|^{p-2}ψ+μ|ψ|^{q-2}ψ=0, & \text{ }\forall (t,x)\in \mathbb{R\times R}^{N},% \end{array}% \end{equation*}% where $γμ<0$. We establish conditions for the local well-posedness in the energy space. Under the double $L^{2}$-supercritical case, we prove the existence and multiplicity of standing waves with prescribed mass by developing a constraint method when $γ<0,μ>0$ and $γ>0,μ<0, $ respectively. Moreover, we prove weak orbital stab…
We consider quasilinear Schrödinger equations in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$ of the form% \[ -Δu+V(x)u-uΔ(u^{2})=g(u)\text{,}% \] where $g(u)$ is $4$-superlinear. Unlike all known results in the literature, the Schrödinger operator $-Δ+V$ is allowed to be indefinite, hence the variational functional does not satisfy the mountain pass geometry. By a local linking argument and Morse theory, we obtain a nontrivial solution for the problem. In case that $g$ is odd, we get an unbounded sequence of solutions.
Assuming a lower bound on the dimension, we prove a long standing conjecture concerning the classification of global solutions of the obstacle problem with unbounded coincidence sets.
We study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation arising in dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate in the unstable regime. Two cases are studied: the first when the system is free, the second when gradually a trapping potential is added. In both cases we first focus on the existence and stability/ instability properties of standing waves. Our approach leads to the search of critical points of a constrained functional which is unbounded from below on the constraint. In the free case, by showing that the constrained functional has a so-called {\it mountain pass geometry}, we prove the existence of standing…
The initial value problem for some coupled nonlinear Schrodinger system with unbounded potential is investigated. In the defocusing case, global well-posedness is obtained. For the focusing sign, existence of global and non global solutions is discussed via potential well method. Moreover, existence of ground state and instability of standing waves are proved.
In this paper we study the existence and the instability of standing waves with prescribed $L^2$-norm for a class of Schrödinger-Poisson-Slater equations in $\R^{3}$ %orbitally stable standing waves with arbitray charge for the following Schrödinger-Poisson type equation \label{evolution1} iψ_{t}+ Δψ- (|x|^{-1}*|ψ|^{2}) ψ+|ψ|^{p-2}ψ=0 % \text{in} \R^{3}, when $p \in (10/3,6)$. To obtain such solutions we look to critical points of the energy functional $$F(u)=1/2| \triangledown u|_{L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^3)}^2+1/4\int_{\mathbb{R}^3}\int_{\mathbb{R}^3}\frac{|u(x)|^2| u(y)|^2}{|x-y|}dxdy-\frac{1}{p}\i…
This paper is concerned with the existence of sign-changing solutions to non local Kirchhoff type problems of the form \begin{equation}\label{s}\tag{S} -\Big(a+b\int_Ω|\nabla u|^2dx\Big)Δu=f(x,u)\, \text{ in }Ω,\quad\quad u=0 \text{ on }\partialΩ, \end{equation} where $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$ ($N=1,2,3$) with smooth boundary, $a>0$, $b>0$, and $f:\overlineΩ\times\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$ is a continuous function. We give a positive answer to a long standing question concerning the existence of more than two sign-changing solutions to \eqref{s}. More precisely, we show in this p…
The paper deals with the existence of standing wave solutions for the Schrödinger-Poisson system with prescribed mass in dimension $N=2$. This leads to investigate the existence of normalized solutions for an integro-differential equation involving a logarithmic convolution potential, namely $$ \left \{ \begin{aligned} - Δu & + λu + γ\Bigl(\log {| \cdot |} * |u|^2 \Bigr) u =a |u|^{p-2} u \qquad \text{in $\mathbb R^2$,} \\ &\int_{\mathbb R^2} |u|^2 dx = c \end{aligned} \right. $$ where $c>0$ is a given real number. Under different assumptions on $γ\in \mathbb R$, $a \in \mathbb R$, $p>2$, we pr…
