We study the twisted index of 4d $\mathcal{N}$ = 2 class S theories on a closed hyperbolic 3-manifold $M_3$. Via 6d picture, the index can be written in terms of topological invariants called analytic torsions twisted by irreducible flat connections on the 3-manifold. Using the topological expression, we determine the full perturbative 1/N expansion of the twisted index. The leading part nicely matches the Bekestein-Hawking entropy of a magnetically charged black hole in the holographic dual $AdS_5$ with $AdS_2\times M_3$ near-horizon.
We compute logarithmic corrections to the entropy of a magnetically charged extremal black hole in AdS4 x S7 using the quantum entropy function and discuss the possibility of matching against recently derived microscopic expressions.
We study magnetically-charged supersymmetric flow equations in a consistent truncation of gauged $\mathcal{N}\,=\,8$ supergravity in five dimensions. This truncation gives gauged $\mathcal{N}\,=\,2$ supergravity coupled to two vector multiplets and two hypermultiplets. We derive magnetically-charged flow equations of scalar fields from vector and hypermultiplets. It turns out that there could be only up to two nontrivial scalar fields out of eight from the hypermultiplets. Along the way, we recover some known $AdS_3$ solutions of the flow equations.
We study the motion of massive particles with electric and magnetic charges in the background of a magnetically charged Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger stringy black hole. We solve analytically the equations of motion of the test particles and we describe the orbital motion in terms of the Weierstrass elliptic functions. We find that there are critical values of the magnetic charge of the black hole and the magnetic charge of the test particle which characterize the bound and unbound orbits and we study two observables, the perihelion shift and the Lense-Thirring effect. The trajectories depend …
Milli-magnetically charged particles generically appear in scenarios with kinetic mixing. We present model independent bounds on these particles coming from magnetars. Schwinger pair production discharges the magnetic field of the magnetar. Thus the existence of large magnetic fields at magnetars place strong bounds on the milli-magnetic charge to be smaller than $10^{-18}$ over a large mass range.
We construct a new class of black brane solutions in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) theory, which is characterized by two parameters $a,b$. Based on the obtained solutions, we make detailed analysis on the ground state in zero temperature limit and find that for many cases it exhibits the behavior of vanishing entropy density. We also find that the linear-T resistivity can be realized in a large region of temperature for the specific case of $a^2=1/3$, which is the Gubser-Rocha model dual to a ground state with vanishing entropy density. Moreover, for $a=1$ we analytically construct the black …
We study the Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg theory in the presence of a self interacting scalar field, minimally coupled to gravity. We solve analytically the field equations for the magnetically charged case and we obtain novel magnetically charged hairy black holes. The scalar field dresses the black hole with a secondary scalar hair. The hairy black hole develops three horizons when Euler-Heisenberg parameter and the magnetic charge are small and the horizon radius is getting large when the scalar charge and the gravitational mass are large. The presence of matter and the magnetic field outside …
The magnetically charged SU(2) Reissner-Nordström black-hole solutions of the coupled nonlinear Einstein-Yang-Mills field equations are known to be characterized by infinite spectra of unstable (imaginary) resonances $\{ω_n(r_+,r_-)\}_{n=0}^{n=\infty}$ (here $r_{\pm}$ are the black-hole horizon radii). Based on direct {\it numerical} computations of the black-hole instability spectra, it has recently been observed that the excited instability eigenvalues of the magnetically charged black holes exhibit a simple universal behavior. In particular, it was shown that the numerically computed instab…
Some very interesting solutions of the field equations of Einstein's general theory of relativity have been constructed in the framework of nonlinear electrodynamics. In particular, magnetically charged black hole solutions in the framework of exponential nonlinear electrodynamics have been obtained in general relativity in Kruglov (2017). Using this approach a magnetically charged non-singular black hole spacetime in the framework of exponential electrodynamics in some modified theory of gravity has been constructed in this letter. The metric describing asymptotic non-singular magnetized blac…
We construct black hole solutions to the leading order of string effective action in five dimensions with the source given by dilaton and magnetically charged antisymmetric gauge $B$-field. Presence of the considered $B$-field leads to the unusual asymptotic behavior of solutions which are neither asymptotically flat nor asymptotically (A)dS. We consider the three-dimensional space part to correspond to the Bianchi classes and so the horizons of these topological black hole solutions are modeled by seven homogeneous Thurston geometries of $E^3$, $S^3$, $H^3$, $H^2 \times E^1$, $\widetilde{SL_2…
The Bronnikov model of nonlinear electrodynamics is investigated in general relativity. The magnetic black hole is considered and we obtain a solution giving corrections to the Reissner-Nordström solution. In this model spacetime at $r\rightarrow\infty$ becomes Minkowski's spacetime. We calculate the magnetic mass of the black hole and the metric function. At some parameters of the model there can be one, two or no horizons. The Hawking temperature and the heat capacity of black holes are calculated. We show that a second-order phase transition takes place and black holes are thermodynamically…
The existence of the classical black hole solutions of the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs equations with non-abelian Yang-Mills-Higgs hair, which we will also refer to as "magnetic monopole black hole solutions", implies that not all classical stationary magnetically charged black holes can be uniquely described by their asymptotic characteristics. In fact, in a certain domain of parameters, there exist different spherically-symmetric, non-rotating and asymptotically-flat classical black hole solutions of the EYMH equations which have the same ADM mass and the same magnetic charge but significantly…
We consider asymptotically-AdS $n$-dimensional black brane solutions in a theory of gravity coupled to a set of $N$ $p$-form field strengths, in which the field strengths carry magnetic charges. For appropriately chosen charges, the metrics are isotropic in the $(n-2)$ transverse directions. However, in general the field strength configurations break the full Euclidean symmetry of the $(n-2)$-dimensional transverse space. We then study the linearised equation for transverse traceless metric perturbations in these backgrounds, and by employing the Kubo formula we obtain expressions for $η/S$, t…

Non-linear electrodynamics (NLED) theories are well-motivated extensions of QED in the strong field regime, and have long been studied in the search for regular black hole (BH) solutions. We consider two well-studied and well-motivated NLED models coupled to General Relativity: the Euler-Heisenberg model and the Bronnikov model. After carefully accounting for the effective geometry induced by the NLED corrections, we determine the shadows of BHs within these two models. We then compare these to the shadow of the supermassive BH M87* recently imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration.…
Instantons in pure Yang-Mills theories on partially periodic space $\mathbb{R}^3\times S^1$ are usually called calorons. The background periodicity brings on characteristic features of calorons such as non-trivial holonomy, which plays an essential role for confinement/deconfinement transition in pure Yang-Mills gauge theory. For the case of gauge group $SU(2)$, calorons can be interpreted as composite objects of two constituent "monopoles" with opposite magnetic charges. There are often the cases that the two monopole charges are unbalanced so that the calorons possess net magnetic charge in …
We present a family of gravitationally coupled electroweak monopole solutions in Einstein-Weinberg-Salam theory. Our result confirms the existence of globally regular gravitating electroweak monopole which changes to the magnetically charged black hole as the Higgs vacuum value approaches to the Planck scale. Moreover, our solutions could provide a more accurate description of the monopole stars and magnetically charged black holes.
The supersymmetric Rényi entropy across a spherical entangling surface in a $d$-dimensional SCFT with flavor defects is equivalent to a supersymmetric partition function on $\mathbb{H}^{d-1} \times \mathbb{S}^1$, which can be computed exactly using localization. We consider the holographically dual BPS solutions in $(d +1)$-dimensional matter coupled supergravity $(d = 3 , 5)$, which are charged hyperbolically sliced AdS black holes. We compute the renormalized on-shell action and the holographic supersymmetric Rényi entropy and show a perfect match with the field theory side. Our setup allows…
We compute the topologically twisted index for general $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetric field theories on $\mathbb{H}_2\times S^1$. We also discuss asymptotically $AdS_4$ magnetically charged black holes with hyperbolic horizon, in four-dimensional $\mathcal{N} = 2$ gauged supergravity. With certain assumptions, put forward by Benini, Hristov and Zaffaroni, we find precise agreement between the black hole entropy and the topologically twisted index, for $ABJM$ theories.
The motion of charged particles in spacetimes containing a submanifold of constant positive or negative curvature is considered, with the electromagnetic tensor proportional to the volume two-form form of the submanifold. In the positive curvature case, this describes spherically symmetric spacetimes with a magnetic monopole, while in the negative curvature case, it is a hyperbolic spacetime with magnetic field uniform along hyperbolic surfaces. Constants of motion are found by considering Poisson brackets defined on a phase space with gauge-covariant momenta. In the spherically-symmetric case…
We analytically study phase transitions of holographic charged Renyi entropies in two gravitational systems dual to the $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory at finite density and zero temperature. The first system is the Reissner-Nordstrom-AdS$_5$ black hole, which has finite entropy at zero temperature. The second system is a charged dilatonic black hole in AdS$_5$, which has zero entropy at zero temperature. Hyperbolic black holes are employed to calculate the Renyi entropies with the entangling surface being a sphere. We perturb each system by a charged scalar field, and look for a zero …
We study numerical solutions corresponding to spherically symmetric gravitating electroweak monopole and magnetically charged black holes of the Einstein-Weinberg-Salam theory. The gravitating electroweak monopole solutions are quite identical to the gravitating monopole solution in SU(2) Einsten-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory, but with distinctive characteristics. We also found solutions representing radially excited monopole, which has no counterpart in flat space. Both of these solutions exist up to a maximal gravitational coupling before they cease to exist. Lastly we also report on magnetically …
We study the large $N$ limit of the refined topologically twisted index of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N} = 2$ gauge theories with a holographic dual, which is relevant for counting the number of microstates of rotating, magnetically charged and twisted AdS$_4$ black holes. As a difference with previous computations, we perform a direct saddle point analysis of the relevant matrix model. Among other things we explicitly identify the distribution of gauge magnetic fluxes that contributes at large $N$. The index exhibits a large $N$ factorized form in agreement with the supergravity expectations…
