In [M. Walter et al., Science 340, 1205, 7 June (2013)], they gave a sufficient condition for genuinely entangled pure states and discussed SLOCC classification via polytopes and the eigenvalues of the single-particle states. In this paper, for $4n$ qubits, we show the invariance of algebraic multiplicities (AMs) and geometric multiplicities (GMs) of eigenvalues and the invariance of sizes of Jordan blocks (JBs) of the coefficient matrices under SLOCC. We explore properties of spectra, eigenvectors, generalized eigenvectors, standard Jordan normal forms (SJNFs), and Jordan chains of the coefficient matrices. The properties and invariance permit a reduction of SLOCC classification of $4n$ qubits to integer partitions (in number theory) of the number $2^{2n}-k$ and the AMs.
The Groverian entanglement measure of pure quantum states of $n$ qubits is generalized to the case in which the qubits are divided into any $m \le n$ parties and the entanglement between these parties is evaluated. To demonstrate this measure we apply it to general states of three qubits and to symmetric states with any number of qubits such as the Greenberg-Horne-Zeiliner state and the W state.
Gerjuoy [Phys. Rev. A 67, 052308 (2003)] has derived a closed- form lower bound for the entanglement of formation of a mixed qubit-qudit system (qudit system has d levels with d>=3. In this paper, inspired by Gerjuoy's method, we propose a scheme that partitions a qubit-qudit system into d(d-1)/2 qubit-qubit systems, which can be treated by all known methods pertinent to qubit-qubit system. The method is demonstrated by a qubit-qudit system (The levels of qudit are d=3 and d=5, respectively)
Using the information content of correlations between multipartite systems, together with the notion of partitioning, we show that some general results about the evolution of correlations in quantum systems can be derived with only elementary methods. In particular, we show that for 2 quantum systems A and B, each comprised of a number of sub-systems, in which a partition of A interacts unitarily with a partition of B, then the total correlation can only increase (or remain unchanged) and is given simply by the sum of the initial correlation and the correlation that develops as a result of the…
In this work we extend the discussion that was began in the Ref. [A. L. de Paula Jr., J. G. G. de Oliveira Jr., J. G. Peixoto de Faria, Dagoberto S. Freitas and M. C. Nemes, {\it Phys. Rev.} {\bf A89}, (2014) 022303] to deal with the dynamics of the concurrence of a many-body system. In that previous paper, the discussion was focused in the residual entanglement between the partitions of the system. The purpose of the present contribution is to shed some light on the dynamical properties of entanglement among the environment oscillators. We consider a system consisting of a harmonic oscillator…
We study the entanglement properties of the ground state in Kitaev's model. This is a two-dimensional spin system with a torus topology and nontrivial four-body interactions between its spins. For a generic partition $(A,B)$ of the lattice we calculate analytically the von Neumann entropy of the reduced density matrix $ρ_A$ in the ground state. We prove that the geometric entropy associated with a region $A$ is linear in the length of its boundary. Moreover, we argue that entanglement can probe the topology of the system and reveal topological order. Finally, no partition has zero entanglement…
Quantum annealing is a heuristic algorithm for solving combinatorial optimization problems, and D-Wave Systems Inc. has developed hardware for implementing this algorithm. The current version of the D-Wave quantum annealer can solve unconstrained binary optimization problems with a limited number of binary variables, although cost functions of many practical problems are defined by a large number of integer variables. To solve these problems with the quantum annealer, the integer variables are generally binarized with one-hot encoding, and the binarized problem is partitioned into small subpro…
The correlation dynamics is investigated for various bi-partitions of a composite system consisting of two qubits, and two independent and non-identical noisy environments. The two qubits have no direct interaction with each other and locally interact with their environments. Classical and quantum correlations including entanglement are initially prepared only between the two qubits. We find that, contrary to the identical noisy environment case, the entanglement and quantum correlation transfer directions can be controlled by combining different noisy environments. The amplitude damping envir…
We review `particle partitioning entanglement' for itinerant many-particle systems. This is defined as the entanglement between two subsets of particles making up the system. We identify generic features and mechanisms of particle entanglement that are valid over whole classes of itinerant quantum systems. We formulate the general structure of particle entanglement in many-fermion ground states, analogous to the `area law' for the more usually studied entanglement between spatial regions. Basic properties of particle entanglement are first elucidated by considering relatively simple itinerant …
We analize the entanglement change, under a Lorentz transformation, of a system consisting of two spin-one particles, considering different partitions of the Hilbert space, which has spin and momentum degrees of freedom. We show that there exists a complete set of states of the spin subspace in which the entanglement change of any state in the set is zero for all partitions and all values of the Wigner angle. Moreover, these states only change by a global phase factor under the Lorentz boost. Within this basis, maximally entangled invariant states, interesting for quantum information purposes,…
Entanglement shared among multiple parties presents complex challenges for the characterisation of different types of entanglement. One of the most fundamental insights is the fact that some mixed states can feature entanglement across every possible cut of a multipartite system yet can be produced via a mixture of states separable with respect to different partitions. To distinguish states that genuinely cannot be produced from mixing such partition-separable states, the term genuine multipartite entanglement was coined. All these considerations originate in a paradigm where only a single cop…
We calculate the relative entropy of entanglement for rotationally invariant states of spin-1/2 and arbitrary spin-$j$ particles or of spin-1 particle and spin-$j$ particle with integer $j$. A lower bound of relative entropy of entanglement and an upper bound of distillable entanglement are presented for rotationally invariant states of spin-1 particle and spin-$j$ particle with half-integer $j$.
Quantum spins of mesoscopic size are a well-studied playground for engineering non-classical states. If the spin represents the collective state of an ensemble of qubits, its non-classical behavior is linked to entanglement between the qubits. In this work, we report on an experimental study of entanglement in dysprosium's electronic spin. Its ground state, of angular momentum $J=8$, can formally be viewed as a set of $2J$ qubits symmetric upon exchange. To access entanglement properties, we partition the spin by optically coupling it to an excited state $J'=J-1$, which removes a pair of qubit…
We report distinct nonanalytic signatures in the spin-orbit entanglement of a 2D electron gas with Rashba interactions at integer values of the filling factor and at certain level crossings. The accompanying sharp changes in the bulk spin-orbit entanglement entropy can be probed by measuring the fluctuation in the transverse spin polarization of the electron gas.
We consider the Rényi entanglement entropy of bosonic Luttinger liquids under a particle bipartition and demonstrate that the leading order finite-size scaling is logarithmic in the system size with a prefactor equal to the inverse Luttinger parameter. While higher order corrections involve a microscopic length scale, the leading order scaling depends only on this sole dimensionless parameter which characterizes the low energy quantum hydrodynamics. This result contrasts the leading entanglement entropy scaling under a spatial bipartition, for which the coefficient is universal and independent…
Applying a symmetric bulk bipartition to one-dimensional Affleck-Kennedy-Lieb-Tasaki valence bond solid (VBS) states for the integer spin-S Haldane gapped phase, we can create an array of fractionalized spin-S/2 edge states with the super unit cell $l$ in the reduced bulk system, and the topological properties encoded in the VBS wave functions can be revealed. The entanglement Hamiltonian (EH) with $l=even$ corresponds to the quantum antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin-S/2 model. For the even integer spins, the EH still describes the Haldane gapped phase. For the odd integer spins, however, the …
We describe the spin and momentum degrees of freedom of a system of two massive spin--$\tfrac{1}{2}$ particles as a 4 qubit system. Then we explicitly show how the entanglement changes between different partitions of the qubits, when considered by different inertial observers. Although the two particle entanglement corresponding to a partition into Alice's and Bob's subsystems is, as often stated in the literature, invariant under Lorentz boosts, the entanglement with respect to other partitions of the Hilbert space on the other hand, is not. It certainly does depend on the chosen inertial fra…
We investigate the entanglement spectra arising from sharp real-space partitions of the system for quantum Hall states. These partitions differ from the previously utilized orbital and particle partitions and reveal complementary aspects of the physics of these topologically ordered systems. We show, by constructing one to one maps to the particle partition entanglement spectra, that the counting of the real-space entanglement spectra levels for different particle number sectors versus their angular momentum along the spatial partition boundary is equal to the counting of states for the system…
We develop a quantum model based on the correspondence between energy distribution between harmonic oscillators and the partition of an integer number. A proper choice of the interaction Hamiltonian acting within this manifold of states allows us to examine both the quantum typicality and the non-exponential relaxation in the same system. A quantitative agreement between the field-theoretical calculations and the exact diagonalization of the Hamiltonian is demonstrated.
We explore the results of [V. Coffman, et al., Phys. Rev. A 61 (2000) 052306] derived for general tripartite states in a dynamical context. We study a class of physically motivated tripartite systems. We show that whenever entanglement sudden death occurs in one of the partitions residual entanglement will appear. For fourpartite systems however, the appearance of residual entanglement is not conditioned by sudden death of entanglement. We can only say that if sudden death of entanglement occurs in some partition there will certainly be residual entanglement.
We consider two measures of entanglement, the logarithmic negativity and the entanglement entropy, between regions of space in excited states of many-body systems formed by a finite number of particle excitations. In parts I and II of the current series of papers, it has been shown in one-dimensional free-particle models that, in the limit of large system's and regions' sizes, the contribution from the particles is given by the entanglement of natural qubit states, representing the uniform distribution of particles in space. We show that the replica logarithmic negativity and Rényi entanglemen…
We study the quantum entanglement structure of integer quantum Hall states via the reduced density matrix of spatial subregions. In particular, we examine the eigenstates, spectrum and entanglement entropy (EE) of the density matrix for various ground and excited states, with or without mass anisotropy. We focus on an important class of regions that contain sharp corners or cusps, leading to a geometric angle-dependent contribution to the EE. We unravel surprising relations by comparing this corner term at different fillings. We further find that the corner term, when properly normalized, has …
The Rényi entanglement entropy is calculated exactly for mode-partitioned isolated systems such as the two-mode squeezed state and the multi-mode Silbey-Harris polaron ansatz state. Effective thermodynamic descriptions of the correlated partitions are constructed to present quantum information theory concepts in the language of thermodynamics. Boltzmann weights are obtained from the entanglement spectrum by deriving the exact relationship between an effective temperature and the physical entanglement parameters. The partition function of the resulting effective thermal theory can be obtained d…
