The correlation dynamics is investigated for various bi-partitions of a composite system consisting of two qubits, and two independent and non-identical noisy environments. The two qubits have no direct interaction with each other and locally interact with their environments. Classical and quantum correlations including entanglement are initially prepared only between the two qubits. We find that, contrary to the identical noisy environment case, the entanglement and quantum correlation transfer directions can be controlled by combining different noisy environments. The amplitude damping environment determines whether there exists entanglement transfer among the bi-partitions of a composite system. When one qubit is coupled to an amplitude damping environment but another one to a bit-flip one, we find a very interesting result that all the quantum and classical correlations, and even the entanglement, originally existing between the qubits, can be completely transferred without any loss to the qubit coupled to the bit-flip environment and the amplitude-damping environment. We also notice that it is possible to distinguish the quantum correlation from the classical correlation and entanglement by combining different noisy environments.
We discuss an explicit protocol which allows one to externally cool and control a composite system by operating on a small subset of it. The scheme permits to transfer arbitrary and unknown quantum states from a memory on the network ("upload access") as well as the inverse ("download access"). In particular it yields a method for cooling the system.
We show that the sudden change of quantum correlation can occur even when only one part of the composite entangled state is exposed to a noisy environment. Our results are illustrated through the action of different noisy environments individually on a single qubit of quantum system. Composite noise on the whole of the quantum system is thus not the necessarily condition for the occurrence of sudden transition for quantum correlation.
We propose a method of optimally controlling state transfer through a noisy quantum channel (spin-chain). This process is treated as qubit state-transfer through a fermionic bath. We show that dynamical modulation of the boundary-qubits levels suffices to ensure fast and high-fidelity state transfer. This is achievable by dynamically optimizing the transmission spectrum of the channel. The resulting optimal control is robust against both static and fluctuating noise.
The success probability of a quantum algorithm constructed from noisy quantum gates cannot be accurately predicted from single parameter metrics that compare noisy and ideal gates. We illustrate this concept by examining a system with coherent errors and comparing algorithm success rates for different choices of two-qubit gates that are constructed from composite pulse sequences, where the residual gate errors are related by a unitary transformation. As a result, all of the sequences have the same error relative to the ideal gate under any distance measure that is invariant under unitary trans…
Noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices offer unique platforms to test and evaluate the behavior of non-fault-tolerant quantum computing. However, validating programs on NISQ devices is difficult due to fluctuations in the underlying noise sources and other non-reproducible behaviors that generate computational errors. Efficient and effective methods for modeling NISQ behaviors are necessary to debug these devices and develop programming techniques that mitigate against errors. We present a test-driven approach to characterizing NISQ programs that manages the complexity of noisy circui…
We present methods for the direct characterization of quantum dynamics (DCQD) in which both the principal and ancilla systems undergo noisy processes. Using a concatenated error detection code, we discriminate between located and unlocated errors on the principal system in what amounts to filtering of ancilla noise. The example of composite noise involving amplitude damping and depolarizing channels is used to demonstrate the method, while we find the rate of noise filtering is more generally dependent on code distance. Our results indicate the accuracy of quantum process characterization can …
We propose a method of optimally controlling the tradeoff of speed and fidelity of state transfer through a noisy quantum channel (spin-chain). This process is treated as qubit state-transfer through a fermionic bath. We show that dynamical modulation of the boundary-qubits levels can ensure state transfer with the best tradeoff of speed and fidelity. This is achievable by dynamically optimizing the transmission spectrum of the channel. The resulting optimal control is robust against both static and fluctuating noise in the channel's spin-spin couplings. It may also facilitate transfer in the …
Initialization of composite quantum systems into highly entangled states is usually a must to allow their use for quantum technologies. However, the presence of unavoidable noise in the preparation stage makes the system state mixed, thus limiting the possibility of achieving this goal. Here we address this problem in the context of identical particle systems. We define the entanglement of formation for an arbitrary state of two identical qubits within the operational framework of spatially localized operations and classical communication (sLOCC). We then introduce an entropic measure of spati…
The finite time disentanglement or entanglement sudden death, when only one part of the composite system is subjected to a single noise, is examined. While it is shown that entanglement sudden death can occur when a part of the entangled mixed state is subjected to either amplitude noise or phase noise, local action of either of them does not cause entanglement sudden death in pure entangled states. In contrast, depolarizing noise is shown to have an abilitiy to cause sudden death of entanglement even in pure entangled states, when only one part of the state is exposed to it. The result is ill…
For the paradigmatic case of the damped quantum harmonic oscillator we present two measurement-based feedback schemes to control the stability of its fixed point. The first scheme feeds back a Pyragas-like time-delayed reference signal and the second uses a predetermined instead of time-delayed reference signal. We show that both schemes can reverse the effect of the damping by turning the stable fixed point into an unstable one. Finally, by taking the classical limit $\hbar\rightarrow0$ we explicitly distinguish between inherent quantum effects and effects, which would be also present in a cl…
In this work, a novel protocol is proposed for bidirectional controlled quantum teleportation (BCQT) in which a quantum channel is used with the eight-qubit entangled state. Using the protocol, two users can teleport an arbitrary entangled state and a pure two-qubit state (QBS) to each other simultaneously under the permission of a third party in the role of controller. This protocol is based on the controlled-not operation, appropriate single-qubit (SIQ) UOs and SIQ measurements in the Z and X-basis. Reduction of the predictability of the controller's qubit (QB) by the eavesdropper and also, …
In this manuscript, the behavior of the Wigner function of accelerated and non-accelerated two qubit system passing through different noisy channels is discussed. The decoherence of the initial quantum correlation due to the noisy channels and the acceleration process is investigated by means of Wigner function. The negative (positive) behavior of the Wigner function predicts the gain of the quantum (classical) correlations. Based on the upper and lower bounds of the Wigner function, the entangled initial state loses its quantum correlation due the acceleration process and the strengths of the…
Explicit controlled-NOT gate sequences between two qubits of different types are presented in view of applications for large-scale quantum computation. Here, the building blocks for such composite systems are qubits based on the electrostatically confined electronic spin in semiconductor quantum dots. For each system the effective Hamiltonian models expressed by only exchange interactions between pair of electrons are exploited in two different geometrical configurations. A numerical genetic algorithm that takes into account the realistic physical parameters involved is adopted. Gate operation…
Composite quantum systems exhibit non-local correlations. These counter intuitive correlations form a resource for quantum information processing and quantum computation. In our previous work on two qubit maximally entangled mixed states, we observed that entangled states, states that can be used for quantum teleportaion, states that violate Bell-CHSH inequality and states that do not admit local hidden variable description is the hierarchy in terms of the order of nonlocal correlations. In order to establish this hierarchy, in the present work, we investigate the effect of noise on two quibt …
The ability of a quantum computer to reproduce or replicate the results of a quantum circuit is a key concern for verifying and validating applications of quantum computing. Statistical variations in circuit outcomes that arise from ill-characterized fluctuations in device noise may lead to computational errors and irreproducible results. While device characterization offers a direct assessment of noise, an outstanding concern is how such metrics bound the reproducibility of a given quantum circuit. Here, we first directly assess the reproducibility of a noisy quantum circuit, in terms of the …
A classification of N-partite states, based on K-way negativities (K=2 to N), is proposed. The K-way partial transpose with respect to a subsystem is defined so as to shift the focus to K-way coherences instead of K subsystems of the composite system. For an N-partite system, the fraction of K-way negativity contributing to global negativity, is obtained. After minimizing K-way negativities through local unitary qubit rotations, a combined analysis of 2-way, 3-way and global negativities is shown to provide distinct measures of genuine tripartite, W-state like and bipartite entanglement, for t…
Weak measurements cause small change to quantum states, thereby opening up the possibility of new ways of manipulating and controlling quantum systems. We ask, can weak measurements reveal more quantum correlation in a composite quantum state? We prove that the weak measurement induced quantum discord, called as the "super quantum discord", is always larger than the quantum discord captured by the strong measurement. Moreover, we prove the monotonicity of the super quantum discord as a function of the measurement strength. We find that unlike the normal quantum discord, for pure entangled stat…
Envariance is a symmetry exhibited by correlated quantum systems. Inspired by this "quantum fact of life," we propose a novel method for shortcuts to adiabaticity which enables the system to evolve through the adiabatic manifold at all times, solely by controlling the environment. As main results, we construct the unique form of the driving on the environment that enables such dynamics, for a family of composite states of arbitrary dimension. We compare the cost of this environment-assisted technique with that of counterdiabatic driving, and we illustrate our results for a two-qubit model.
Quantum correlations between parts of a composite system most clearly reveal themselves through entanglement. Designing, maintaining, and controlling entangled systems is very demanding, which raises the stakes for understanding the efficacy of entanglement-free, yet quantum, correlations, exemplified by quantum discord. Discord is defined via conditional mutual entropies of parts of a composite system, and its direct measurement is hardly possible even via full tomographic characterization of the system state. Here we design a simple protocol to detect quantum discord and characterize a disco…
