Motivated in part by the problem of secure multicast distributed storage, we analyze secrecy rates for a channel in which two transmitters simultaneously multicast to two receivers in the presence of an eavesdropper. Achievable rates are calculated via extensions of a technique due to Chia and El Gamal and the method of output statistics of random binning. Outer bounds are derived for both the degraded and non-degraded versions of the channel, and examples are provided in which the inner and outer bounds meet. The inner bounds recover known results for the multiple-access wiretap channel, broadcast channel with confidential messages, and the compound MAC channel. An auxiliary result is also produced that derives an inner bound on the minimal randomness necessary to achieve secrecy in multiple-access wiretap channels.
This paper considers the application of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to a multi-user network with mixed multicasting and unicasting traffic. The proposed design of beamforming and power allocation ensures that the unicasting performance is improved while maintaining the reception reliability of multicasting. Both analytical and simulation results are provided to demonstrate that the use of the NOMA assisted multicast-unicast scheme yields a significant improvement in spectral efficiency compared to orthogonal multiple access (OMA) schemes which realize multicasting and unicasting serv…
The K-user discrete memoryless (DM) broadcast channel (BC) with two nested multicast messages is studied in which one common message is to be multicast to all receivers and the second private message to a subset of receivers. The receivers that must decode both messages are referred to as private receivers and the others that must decode only the common message as common receivers. For two nested multicast messages, we establish the capacity region for several classes of DM BCs characterized by the respective associated sets of pair-wise relationships between and among the common and private r…
The two-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian broadcast channel (BC) with common, private and confidential messages is considered. The transmitter sends a common message to both users, a confidential message to User 1 and a private (non-confidential) message to User 2. The secrecy-capacity region is characterized by showing that certain inner and outer bounds coincide and that the boundary points are achieved by Gaussian inputs, which enables the development of a tight converse. The proof relies on factorization of upper concave envelopes and a variant of dirty-paper coding (DPC)…
This paper investigates the capacity region of a discrete memoryless (DM) multiple access wiretap (MAC-WT) channel where, besides confidential messages, the users have also open messages to transmit. All these messages are intended for the legitimate receiver but only the confidential messages need to be protected from the eavesdropper. By using random coding, we find an achievable secrecy rate region, within which perfect secrecy can be realized, i.e., all users can communicate with the legitimate receiver with arbitrarily small probability of error, while the confidential information leaked …
We consider a discrete memoryless broadcast channel consists of two users and a sender. The sender has two independent confidential messages for each user. We extend the work of Liu et al.\ on broadcast channels with two confidential messages with weak secrecy criterion to strong secrecy. Our results are based on an extension of the techniques developed by Hou and Kramer on bounding Kullback-Leibler divergence in context of \textit{resolvability} and \textit{effective secrecy}.
Capacity Bounds for Broadcast Channels with Confidential Messages
This letter considers a two-receiver multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian broadcast channel model with integrated services. Specifically, we combine two sorts of service messages, and serve them simultaneously: one multicast message intended for both receivers and one confidential message intended for only one receiver. The confidential message is kept perfectly secure from the unauthorized receiver. Due to the coupling of service messages, it is intractable to seek capacity-achieving transmit covariance matrices. Accordingly, we propose a suboptimal precoding scheme based on the gen…
In a superimposed unicast and multicast transmission system, one layer of Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) is required at each receiver to remove the multicast stream before decoding the unicast stream. In this paper, we show that a linearly-precoded Rate-Splitting (RS) strategy at the transmitter can efficiently exploit this existing SIC receiver architecture. By splitting the unicast message into common and private parts and encoding the common parts along with the multicast message into a super-common stream decoded by all users, the SIC is used for the dual purpose of separating …
Maddah-Ali and Niesen's original coded caching scheme for shared-link broadcast networks is now known to be optimal to within a factor two, and has been applied to other types of networks. For practical reasons, this paper considers that a server communicates to cache-aided users through $H$ intermediate relays. In particular, it focuses on combination networks where each of the $K = \binom{H}{r}$ users is connected to a distinct $r$-subsets of relays. By leveraging the symmetric topology of the network, this paper proposes a novel method to general multicast messages and to deliver them to th…
The problem of multicasting two nested messages is studied over a class of networks known as combination networks. A source multicasts two messages, a common and a private message, to several receivers. A subset of the receivers (called the public receivers) only demand the common message and the rest of the receivers (called the private receivers) demand both the common and the private message. Three encoding schemes are discussed that employ linear superposition coding and their optimality is proved in special cases. The standard linear superposition scheme is shown to be optimal for network…
The demand of massive access to the same multimedia content at the same time is one major challenge for next-generation cellular networks in densely-packed urban areas. The content-aware multicast transmission strategies provide promising solutions to such use cases involving many mobile users trying to fetch the same data. In this work, we consider multigroup multicast transmission with a common message (e.g., multimedia content), in which different multicast groups are interested along with their private multicast messages. We further assume that a relay helps the cellular base station (BS) …
In multi-cast scenario, all desired users are divided into $K$ groups. Each group receives its own individual confidential message stream. Eavesdropper group aims to intercept $K$ confidential-message streams. To achieve a secure transmission, two secure schemes are proposed: maximum group receive power plus null-space (NS) projection (Max-GRP plus NSP) and leakage. The former obtains its precoding vector per group by maximizing its own group receive power subject to the orthogonal constraint, and its AN projection matrix consist of all bases of NS of all desired steering vectors from all grou…
The principal mission of Multi-Source Multicast (MSM) is to disseminate all messages from all sources in a network to all destinations. MSM is utilized in numerous applications. In many of them, securing the messages disseminated is critical. A common secure model is to consider a network where there is an eavesdropper which is able to observe a subset of the network links, and seek a code which keeps the eavesdropper ignorant regarding all the messages. While this is solved when all messages are located at a single source, Secure MSM (SMSM) is an open problem, and the rates required are hard …
The classical problem in network coding theory considers communication over multicast networks. Multiple transmitters send independent messages to multiple receivers which decode the same set of messages. In this work, computation over multicast networks is considered: each receiver decodes an identical function of the original messages. For a countably infinite class of two-transmitter two-receiver single-hop linear deterministic networks, the computing capacity is characterized for a linear function (modulo-2 sum) of Bernoulli sources. Inspired by the geometric concept of interference alignm…
In this paper, we propose a low-complexity, secrecy capacity achieving polar coding scheme for the cognitive interference channel with confidential messages (CICC) under the strong secrecy criterion. Existing polar coding schemes for interference channels rely on the use of polar codes for the multiple access channel, the code construction problem of which can be complicated. We show that the whole secrecy capacity region of the CICC can be achieved by simple point-to-point polar codes due to the cognitivity, and our proposed scheme requires the minimum rate of randomness at the encoder.
We study optimal delivery strategies of one common and $K$ independent messages from a source to multiple users in wireless environments. In particular, two-layered superposition of broadcast/multicast and unicast signals is considered in a downlink multiuser OFDMA system. In the literature and industry, the two-layer superposition is often considered as a pragmatic approach to make a compromise between the simple but suboptimal orthogonal multiplexing (OM) and the optimal but complex fully-layered non-orthogonal multiplexing. In this work, we show that only two-layers are necessary to achieve…
Signaling design for secure transmission in two-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks is investigated in this paper. The base station broadcasts multicast data to all users and also integrates additional services, unicast data targeted to certain users, and confidential data protected against eavesdroppers. We categorize the above MIMO-NOMA with different security requirements into several communication scenarios. The associated problem in each scenario is nonconvex. We propose a unified approach, called the power splitting scheme, for optimi…
We derive universal codes for transmission of broadcast and confidential messages over classical-quantum-quantum and fully quantum channels. These codes are robust to channel uncertainties considered in the compound model. To construct these codes we generalize random codes for transmission of public messages, to derive a universal superposition coding for the compound quantum broadcast channel. As an application, we give a multi-letter characterization of regions corresponding to the capacity of the compound quantum broadcast channel for transmitting broadcast and confidential messages simult…
This paper investigates the secrecy capacity region of multiple access wiretap (MAC-WT) channels where, besides confidential messages, the users have also open messages to transmit. All these messages are intended for the legitimate receiver (or Bob for brevity) but only the confidential messages need to be protected from the eavesdropper (Eve). We first consider a discrete memoryless (DM) MAC-WT channel where both Bob and Eve jointly decode their interested messages. By using random coding, we find an achievable rate region, within which perfect secrecy can be realized, i.e., all users can co…
We develop a low-complexity polar coding scheme for the discrete memoryless broadcast channel with confidential messages under strong secrecy and randomness constraints. Our scheme extends previous work by using an optimal rate of uniform randomness in the stochastic encoder, and avoiding assumptions regarding the symmetry or degraded nature of the channels. The price paid for these extensions is that the encoder and decoders are required to share a secret seed of negligible size and to increase the block length through chaining. We also highlight a close conceptual connection between the prop…
We study the transmission of confidential messages across a wireless broadcast channel with K>2 receivers and K helpers. The goal is to transmit all messages reliably to their intended receivers while keeping them confidential from the unintended receivers. We design a codebook based on nested lattice structure, cooperative jamming, lattice alignment, and i.i.d. coding. Moreover, we exploit the asymmetric compute-and-forward decoding strategy to handle finite SNR regimes. Unlike previous alignment schemes, our achievable rates are attainable at any finite SNR value. Also, we show that our sche…
This paper considers artificial noise (AN)-aided transmit designs for multi-user MISO systems in the eyes of service integration. Specifically, we combine two sorts of services, and serve them simultaneously: one multicast message intended for all receivers and one confidential message intended for only one receiver. The confidential message is kept perfectly secure from all the unauthorized receivers. Our goal is to jointly design the optimal input covariances for the multicast message, confidential message and AN, such that the achievable secrecy rate region is maximized subject to the sum p…
In this era of 5G technology, the ever-increasing demands for high data rates lead researchers to develop hybrid satellite-terrestrial (HST) networks as a substitution to the conventional cellular terrestrial systems. Since an HST network suffers from a masking effect which can be mitigated by adopting the terrestrial relaying strategy, in this work, we focus on wireless multicasting through an HST relaying net-work (HSTRN) in which a satellite sends messages to multiple terrestrial nodes via multiple relays under the wiretapping efforts of multiple eavesdroppers. Our concern is to protect the…
The capacity region of the Multicast Cognitive Interference Channel (CIFC) is investigated. This channel consists of two independent transmitters that wish to multicast two different messages, each of them to a different set of users. In addition, one of the transmitters --commonly referred to as the cognitive transmitter-- has prior non-causal knowledge of both messages to be transmitted. This scenario combines difficulties and challenges arising in the Interference Channel, the Broadcast Channel and multicasting communications. Our aim concerns the derivation of optimal interference mitigati…
This paper considers an artificial noise (AN)-aided transmit design for multi-user MIMO systems with integrated services. Specifically, two sorts of service messages are combined and served simultaneously: one multicast message intended for all receivers and one confidential message intended for only one receiver and required to be perfectly secure from other unauthorized receivers. Our interest lies in the joint design of input covariances of the multicast message, confidential message and artificial noise (AN), such that the achievable secrecy rate and multicast rate are simultaneously maxim…
