We show universally attainable exponents for the decoding error and the mutual information and universally attainable equivocation rates for the conditional entropy for the broadcast channels with confidential messages. The error exponents are the same as ones given by Korner and Sgarro for the broadcast channels with degraded message sets.
We consider a communication system where a relay helps transmission of messages from {a} sender to {a} receiver. The relay is considered not only as a helper but as a wire-tapper who can obtain some knowledge about transmitted messages. In this paper we study a relay channel with confidential messages(RCC), where a sender attempts to transmit common information to both a receiver and a relay and also has private information intended for the receiver and confidential to the relay. The level of secrecy of private information confidential to the relay is measured by the equivocation rate, i.e., t…
Capacity Bounds for Broadcast Channels with Confidential Messages
We investigate the effects of an additional relay node on the secrecy of broadcast channels by considering the model of relay broadcast channels with confidential messages. We show that this additional relay node can increase the achievable secrecy rate region of the broadcast channels with confidential messages. More specifically, first, we investigate the discrete memoryless relay broadcast channels with two confidential messages and one common message. Three inner bounds (with respect to decode-forward, generalized noise-forward and compress-forward strategies) and an outer bound on the cap…
As a brain inspired wireless communication scheme, cognitive radio is a novel approach to promote the efficient use of the scarce radio spectrum by allowing some users called cognitive users to access the under-utilized spectrum licensed out to the primary users. Besides highly reliable communication and efficient utilization of the radio spectrum, the security of information transmission against eavesdropping is critical in the cognitive radios for many potential applications. In this paper, this problem is investigated from an information theoretic viewpoint. Capacity limits are explored for…
Several security models of multiple-access channel (MAC) are investigated. First, we study the degraded MAC with confidential messages, where two users transmit their confidential messages (no common message) to a destination, and each user obtains a degraded version of the output of the MAC. Each user views the other user as a eavesdropper, and wishes to keep its confidential message as secret as possible from the other user. Measuring each user's uncertainty about the other user's confidential message by equivocation, the inner and outer bounds on the capacity-equivocation region for this mo…
In this paper, bounds to the rate-equivocation region for the general 3-receiver broadcast channel (BC) with degraded message sets, are presented for confidential messages to be kept secret from one of the receivers. This model is more general than the 2-receiver BCs with confidential messages with an external wiretapper, and the recently studied 3-receiver degraded BCs with confidential messages, since in the model studied in this paper, the conditions on the receivers are general and the wiretapper receives the common message. Wyner's code partitioning combined with double-binning is used to…
In this paper, first, we investigate the model of degraded broadcast channel with side information and confidential messages. This work is from Steinberg's work on the degraded broadcast channel with causal and noncausal side information, and Csisz$\acute{a}$r-Körner's work on broadcast channel with confidential messages. Inner and outer bounds on the capacity-equivocation regions are provided for the noncausal and causal cases. Superposition coding and double-binning technique are used in the corresponding achievability proofs. Then, we investigate the degraded broadcast channel with side inf…
A simple four node network in which cooperation improves the information-theoretic secrecy is studied. The channel consists of two senders, a receiver, and an eavesdropper. One or both senders transmit confidential messages to the receiver, while the eavesdropper tries to decode the transmitted message. The main result is the derivation of a newly achievable rate-equivocation region that is shown to be larger than a rate-equivocation region derived by Lai and El Gamal for the relay-eavesdropper channel. When the rate of the helping interferer is zero, the new rate-equivocation region reduces t…
In this paper, inner and outer bounds on the capacity region of two-user interference channels with two confidential messages have been proposed. By adding secure multiplex coding to the error correction method in [15] which achieves the best achievable capacity region for interference channel up to now, we have shown that the improved secure capacity region compared with [2] now is the whole Han-Kobayashi region. In addition, this construction not only removes the rate loss incurred by adding dummy messages to achieve security, but also change the original weak security condition in [2] to st…
This paper presents two new results on multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian broadcast channels with confidential messages. First, the problem of the MIMO Gaussian wiretap channel is revisited. A matrix characterization of the capacity-equivocation region is provided, which extends the previous result on the secrecy capacity of the MIMO Gaussian wiretap channel to the general, possibly imperfect secrecy setting. Next, the problem of MIMO Gaussian broadcast channels with two receivers and three independent messages: a common message intended for both receivers, and two confidential mes…
We study the transmission of confidential messages across a wireless broadcast channel with K>2 receivers and K helpers. The goal is to transmit all messages reliably to their intended receivers while keeping them confidential from the unintended receivers. We design a codebook based on nested lattice structure, cooperative jamming, lattice alignment, and i.i.d. coding. Moreover, we exploit the asymmetric compute-and-forward decoding strategy to handle finite SNR regimes. Unlike previous alignment schemes, our achievable rates are attainable at any finite SNR value. Also, we show that our sche…
The 2-receiver broadcast channel is studied: a network with three parties where the transmitter and one of the receivers are the primarily involved parties and the other receiver considered as third party. The messages that are determined to be communicated are classified into public, private and confidential based on the information they convey. The public message contains information intended for both parties and is required to be decoded correctly by both of them, the private message is intended for the primary party only, however, there is no secrecy requirement imposed upon it meaning tha…
In this paper, we derive outer bounds on the capacity region of two classes of the general two-user discrete memoryless broadcast channels with side-information at the transmitter. The first class comprises the classical broadcast channel where a sender transmits two independent messages to two receivers. A constraint that each message must be kept confidential from the unintended receiver constitutes the second class. For both classes, the conditional distribution characterizing the channel depends on a state process and the encoder has side-information provided to it in a noncausal manner. F…
It is known that given the real sum of two independent uniformly distributed lattice points from the same nested lattice codebook, the eavesdropper can obtain at most 1 bit of information per channel regarding the value of one of the lattice points. In this work, we study the effect of this 1 bit information on the equivocation expressed in three commonly used information theoretic measures, i.e., the Shannon entropy, the Renyi entropy and the min entropy. We then demonstrate its applications in an interference channel with a confidential message. In our previous work, we showed that nested la…
The secrecy problem in the state-dependent cognitive interference channel is considered in this paper. In our model, there are a primary and a secondary (cognitive) transmitter-receiver pairs, in which the cognitive transmitter has the message of the primary one as side information. In addition, the channel is affected by a channel state sequence which is estimated partially at the cognitive transmitter and the corresponding receiver. The cognitive transmitter wishes to cooperate with the primary one, and it sends its individual message which should be confidential at the primary receiver. The…
In this paper, we consider a scenario where a source node wishes to broadcast two confidential messages to two receivers, while a wire-tapper also receives the transmitted signal. This model is motivated by wireless communications, where individual secure messages are broadcast over open media and can be received by any illegitimate receiver. The secrecy level is measured by the equivocation rate at the eavesdropper. We first study the general (non-degraded) broadcast channel with an eavesdropper. We present an inner bound on the secrecy capacity region for this model. This inner bound is base…
