In this paper we completely describe maximal green sequences (MGS) of acyclic quivers with multiple edges in terms of maximal green sequences of their multiple edge-free (ME-free) versions. In particular we establish that any MGS of a quiver must be an ME-free MGS of its ME-free version. For quivers with oriented cycles our results for acyclic quivers do not apply. However a weaker result is available under certain conditions.
Let Delta be an Euclidean quiver. We prove that the closures of the maximal orbits in the varieties of representations of Delta are normal and Cohen--Macaulay (even complete intersections). Moreover, we give a generalization of this result for the tame concealed-canonical algebras.
A maximal green sequence introduced by B. Keller is a certain sequence of quiver mutations at green vertices. T. Brüstle, G. Dupont and M. Pérotin showed that for an acyclic quiver, maximal green sequences are realized as maximal paths in the Hasse quiver of the poset of support tilting modules. They also considered possible lengths of maximal green sequences. In this paper, we calculate possible lengths of maximal green sequences for a quiver of type $A$ or of type $\tilde{A}_{n,1}$ by using theory of tilting mutation.
We prove quantum dilogarithm identities for $n$-cycle quivers. By the combinatorial approach of Keller, each side of our identity determines a maximal green sequence of quiver mutations. Thus we interpret our identities as factorizations of the refined Donaldson--Thomas invariant for the quiver with potential. Finally, we conjecture an upper bound on the possible lengths of maximal green sequences.
In general, the existence of a maximal green sequence is not mutation invariant. In this paper we show that it is in fact mutation invariant for cluster quivers of finite mutation type. In particular, we show that a mutation finite cluster quiver has a maximal green sequence unless it arises from a once-punctured closed marked surface, or one of the two quivers in the mutation class of X7. We develop a procedure to explicitly find maximal green sequences for cluster quivers associated to arbitrary triangulations of closed marked surfaces with at least two punctures. As a corollary, it follows …
We use semi-invariant pictures to prove two conjectures about maximal green sequences. First: if $Q$ is any acyclic valued quiver with an arrow $j\to i$ of infinite type then any maximal green sequence for $Q$ must mutate at $i$ before mutating at $j$. Second: for any quiver $Q'$ obtained by mutating an acyclic valued quiver $Q$ of tame type, there are only finitely many maximal green sequences for $Q'$. Both statements follow from the Rotation Lemma for reddening sequences and this in turn follows from the Mutation Formula for the semi-invariant picture for $Q$.
We introduce the notion of ''maximal rank type'' for representations of quivers, which requires certain collections of maps involved in the representation to be of maximal rank. We show that real root representations of quivers are of maximal rank type. By using the maximal rank type property and universal extension functors we construct all real root representations of a particular wild quiver with three vertices. From this construction it follows that real root representations of this quiver are tree modules. Moreover, formulae given by Ringel can be applied to compute the dimension of the e…
Maximal green sequences were introduced as combinatorical counterpart for Donaldson-Thomas invariants for 2-acyclic quivers with potential by B. Keller. We take the categorical notion and introduce maximal green sequences for hearts of bounded t-structures of triangulated categories that can be tilted indefinitely. We study the case where the heart is the category of modules over the preprojective algebra of a quiver without loops. The combinatorical counterpart of maximal green sequences for Dynkin quivers are maximal chains in the Hasse quiver of basic support τ-tilting modules. We show that…
Maximal green sequences are particular sequences of quiver mutations appearing in the context of quantum dilogarithm identities and supersymmetric gauge theory. Interpreting maximal green sequences as paths in various natural posets arising in representation theory, we prove the finiteness of the number of maximal green sequences for cluster finite quivers, affine quivers and acyclic quivers with at most three vertices. We also give results concerning the possible numbers and lengths of these maximal green sequences.
Given a framed quiver, i.e. one with a frozen vertex associated to each mutable vertex, there is a concept of green mutation, as introduced by Keller. Maximal sequences of such mutations, known as maximal green sequences, are important in representation theory and physics as they have numerous applications, including the computations of spectrums of BPS states, Donaldson-Thomas invariants, tilting of hearts in the derived category, and quantum dilogarithm identities. In this paper, we study such sequences and construct a maximal green sequence for every quiver mutation-equivalent to an orienta…
We use combinatorics of quivers and the corresponding surfaces to study maximal green sequences of minimal length for quivers of type $\mathbb{A}$. We prove that such sequences have length $n+t$, where $n$ is the number of vertices and $t$ is the number of 3-cycles in the quiver. Moreover, we develop a procedure that yields these minimal length maximal green sequences.
We give two generalizations of Kac's Theorem on representations of quivers. One is to representations of equipped graphs by relations, in the sense of Gelfand and Ponomarev. The other is to representations of quivers in which certain of the linear maps are required to have maximal rank.
We introduce a new method for producing both maximal green and reddening sequences of quivers. The method, called component preserving mutations, generalizes the notion of direct sums of quivers and can be used as a tool to both recover known reddening sequences as well as find reddening sequences that were previously unknown. We use the method to produce and recover maximal green sequences for many bipartite recurrent quivers that show up in the study of periodicity of $T$-systems and $Y$-systems. Additionally, we show how our method relates to the dominance phenomenon recently considered by …
In this paper, we study the maximal length of maximal green sequences for quivers of type $\widetilde{\mathbf{D}}$ and $\widetilde{\mathbf{E}}$ by using the theory of tilting mutation. We show that the maximal length does not depend on the choice of the orientation, and determine it explicitly. Moreover, we give a program which counts all maximal green sequences by length for a given Dynkin/extended Dynkin quiver.
An upper bound on degrees of elements of a minimal generating system for invariants of quivers of dimension (2,...,2) is established over a field of arbitrary characteristic and its precision is estimated. The proof is based on the reduction to the problem of description of maximal paths satisfying certain condition.
Maximal green sequences are important objects in representation theory, cluster algebras, and string theory. It is an open problem to determine what lengths are achieved by the maximal green sequences of a quiver. We combine the combinatorics of surface triangulations and the basics of scattering diagrams to address this problem. Our main result is a formula for the length of minimal length maximal green sequences of quivers defined by triangulations of an annulus or a punctured disk.
In this paper we state and prove the statement that tame hereditary algebras have finitely many m-maximal green sequences using a generalized version of Brüstle-Dupont-Pérotin's argument that tame quivers have finitely many maximal green sequences. Then we extend this theorem to mutation sequences which are partially red.
It is well known that any triangulation of a marked surface produces a quiver. In this paper we will provide a triangulation for orientable surfaces of genus $n$ with an arbitrary number interior marked points (called punctures) whose corresponding quiver has a maximal green sequence.
We consider the base change action on real or complex representation spaces of quivers and the associated momentum map for a maximal compact subgroup of the base change group, as introduced by A. King. We give an explicit description of the momentum map image in terms of recursively defined inequalities on eigenvalues of Hermitian operators. Moreover, we characterize when the momentum map image is maximal possible, respectively of positive volume.
Our investigation in the present paper is based on three important results. (1) In [12], Ringel introduced Hall algebra for representations of a quiver over finite fields and proved the elements corresponding to simple representations satisfy the quantum Serre relation. This gives a realization of the nilpotent part of quantum group if the quiver is of finite type. (2) In [4], Green found a homological formula for the representation category of the quiver and equipped Ringel's Hall algebra with a comultiplication. The generic form of the composition subalgebra of Hall algebra generated by simp…
We show that, for any cluster-tilted algebra of finite representation type over an algebraically closed field, the following three definitions of a maximal green sequence are equivalent: (1) the usual definition in terms of Fomin-Zelevinsky mutation of the extended exchange matrix, (2) a forward hom-orthogonal sequence of Schurian modules, (3) the sequence of wall crossings of a generic green path. Together with [24], this completes the foundational work needed to support the author's work with P.J. Apruzzese [1], namely, to determine all lengths of all maximal green sequences for all quivers …
This paper presents a geometric model of the Auslander-Reiten quiver of a type A quiver together with a stability function for which all indecomposable modules are stable. We also introduce a new Catalan object which we call a maximal almost rigid representation. We show that its endomorphism algebra is a tilted algebra of type A. We define a partial order on the set of maximal almost rigid representations and use our new geometric model to show that this partial order is a Cambrian lattice.
Let A be a basic connected finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field k and with ordinary quiver Q without oriented cycle. To any presentation of A by quiver and admissible relations, Martinez-Villa and de La Pena have associated the fundamental group of the presentation. Assem and de La Pena have constructed an injective mapping from the additive characters of this fundamental group (with values in the ground field) to the first Hochschild cohomology group HH^1(A). We study the image of these mappings associated to the different presentations of A in terms of diagonalizable…
Green's theorem states that the Hall algebra of the category of representations of a quiver over a finite field is a twisted bialgebra. Considering instead categories of orthogonal or symplectic quiver representations leads to a class of modules over the Hall algebra, called Hall modules, which are also comodules. A module theoretic analogue of Green's theorem, describing the compatibility of the module and comodule structures, is not known. In this paper we prove module theoretic analogues of Green's theorem in the degenerate settings of finitary Hall modules of $\mathsf{Rep}_{\mathbb{F}_1}(Q…
Maximal green sequences are important objects in representation theory, cluster algebras, and string theory. The two fundamental questions about maximal green sequences are whether a given algebra admits such sequences and, if so, does it admit only finitely many. We study maximal green sequences in the case of string algebras and give sufficient conditions on the algebra that ensure an affirmative answer to these questions.
We study the cocenter of the cyclotomic quiver Hecke algebra $R^Λ_α$ associated to an {\it arbitrary} symmetrizable Cartan matrix $A=(a_{ij})_{i,j}\in I$, $Λ\in P^+$ and $α\in Q_n^+$. We introduce a notion called "piecewise dominant sequence" and use it to construct some explicit homogeneous elements which span the maximal degree component of the cocenter of $R^Λ_α$. We show that the minimal degree components of the cocenter of $R^Λ_α$ is spanned by the image of some KLR idempotent $e(ν)$, where each $ν\in I^α$ is piecewise dominant. As an application, we show that the weight space $L(Λ)_{Λ-α}…
Given a maximal rigid object $T$ of the cluster tube, we determine the objects finitely presented by $T$. We then use the method of Keller and Reiten to show that the endomorphism algebra of $T$ is Gorenstein and of finite representation type, as first shown by Vatne. This algebra turns out to be the Jacobian algebra of a certain quiver with potential, when the characteristic of the base field is not 3. We study how this quiver with potential changes when $T$ is mutated. We also provide a derived equivalence classification for the endomorphism algebras of maximal rigid objects.
In this paper we construct an unfolding for $c-$vectors of acyclic sign-skew symmetric matrices and we also prove that the sign-coherence property holds for acyclic sign-skew-symmetric matrices. Then we prove that every acyclic sign-skew-symmetric matrix admits a maximal green sequence.
Extending the notion of maximal green sequences to an abelian category, we characterize the stability functions, as defined by Rudakov, that induce a maximal green sequence in an abelian length category. Furthermore, we use $τ$-tilting theory to give a description of the wall and chamber structure of any finite dimensional algebra. Finally we introduce the notion of green paths in the wall and chamber structure of an algebra and show that green paths serve as geometrical generalization of maximal green sequences in this context.
In this paper we study the stability functions on abelian categories introduced by Rudakov in \cite{Ru} and their relation with torsion classes and maximal green sequences. Moreover we introduce a new kind of stability function which is compatible with the wall and chamber of the category.
In this article, we study the relationship among maximal green sequences, complete forward hom-orthogonal sequences and stability functions in abelian length categories. Mainly, we firstly give a one-to-one correspondence between maximal green sequences and complete forward hom-orthogonal sequences via mutual constructions, and then prove that a maximal green sequence can be induced by a central charge if and only if it satisfies crossing inequalities. As applications, we show that crossing inequalities can be computed by $c$-vectors for finite dimensional algebras; finally, we give the Rotati…
In this paper, we prove that each matrix in $M_{m\times n}(\mathbb Z_{\geq0})$ is uniformly column sign-coherent with respect to any $n\times n$ skew-symmetrizable integer matrix. Using such matrices, we introduce the definition of irreducible skew-symmatrizable matrix. Based on this, the existence of a maximal green sequence for a skew-symmetrizable matrices is reduced to the existence of a maximal green sequence for irreducible skew-symmetrizable matrices.

We construct maximal green sequences of maximal length for any affine quiver of type $A$. We determine which sets of modules (equivalently $c$-vectors) can occur in such sequences and, among these, which are given by a linear stability condition (also called a central charge). There is always at least one such maximal set which is linear. The proofs use representation theory and three kinds of diagrams shown in Figure 1. Background material is reviewed with details presented in two separate papers [arxiv:1706.06986] and [arXiv:1706.06503].
Maximal green sequences appear in the study of Fomin-Zelevinsky's cluster algebras. They are useful for computing refined Donaldson-Thomas invariants, constructing twist automorphisms and proving the existence of theta bases and generic bases. We survey recent progress on their existence and properties and give a representation-theoretic proof of Greg Muller's theorem stating that full subquivers inherit maximal green sequences. In the appendix, Laurent Demonet describes maximal chains of torsion classes in terms of bricks generalizing a theorem by Igusa.
The "No Gap Conjecture" of Brüstle-Dupont-Pérotin states that the set of lengths of maximal green sequences for hereditary algebras over an algebraically closed field has no gaps. This follows from a stronger conjecture that any two maximal green sequences can be "polygonally deformed" into each other. We prove this stronger conjecture for all tame hereditary algebras over any field.
Let $Λ$ be a cluster-tilted algebra of finite type over an algebraically closed field and $B$ be one of the associated tilted algebras. We show that the $B$-modules, ordered form right to left in the Auslander-Reiten quiver of $Λ$ form a maximal forward hom-orthogonal sequence of $Λ$-modules whose dimension vectors form the $c$-vectors of a maximal green sequence for $Λ$. Thus we give a proof of Igusa-Todorov's conjecture.
We show that an algebraic 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category over an algebraically closed field is a cluster category if it contains a cluster tilting subcategory whose quiver has no oriented cycles. We prove a similar characterization for higher cluster categories. As a first application, we show that the stable category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over a certain isolated singularity of dimension three is a cluster category. As a second application, we prove the non-acyclicity of the quivers of endomorphism algebras of cluster-tilting objects in the stable categories of representation-i…
The exchange graph of a 2-acyclic quiver is the graph of mutation-equivalent quivers whose edges correspond to mutations. When the quiver admits a nondegenerate Jacobi-finite potential, the exchange graph admits a natural acyclic orientation called the oriented exchange graph, as shown by Brüstle and Yang. The oriented exchange graph is isomorphic to the Hasse diagram of the poset of functorially finite torsion classes of a certain finite dimensional algebra. We prove that lattices of torsion classes are semidistributive lattices, and we use this result to conclude that oriented exchange graph…
For any quiver mutation sequence, we define a pair of matrices that describe a fixed point equation of a cluster transformation determined from the mutation sequence. We give an explicit relationship between this pair of matrices and the Jacobian matrix of the cluster transformation. Furthermore, we show that this relationship reduces to a relationship between the pair of matrices and the $C$-matrix of the cluster transformation in a certain limit of cluster variables. As an application, we prove that quivers associated with once-punctured surfaces do not have maximal green or reddening sequen…
A cluster is a finite set of generators of a cluster algebra. The Laurent Phenomenon of Fomin and Zelevinsky says that any element of a cluster algebra can be written as a Laurent polynomial in terms of any cluster. The upper cluster algebra of a cluster algebra is the ring of rational functions that can be written as a Laurent polynomial in every cluster of the cluster algebra. By the Laurent phenomenon a cluster algebra is always contained in its upper cluster algebra, but they are not always equal. In 2014 it was conjectured that the equality of the cluster algebra and upper cluster algebra…
Let $Q$ be an acyclic quiver and $\mathbf{s}$ be a sequence with elements in the vertex set $Q_0$. We describe an induced sequence of simple (backward) tilting in the bounded derived category $\mathcal{D}(Q)$, starting from the standard heart $\mathcal{H}_Q=\operatorname{mod}\mathbf{k}Q$ and ending at another heart $\mathcal{H}_\mathbf{s}$ in $\mathcal{D}(Q)$. Then we show that $\mathbf{s}$ is a green mutation sequence if and only if every heart in this simple tilting sequence is greater than or equal to $\mathcal{H}_Q[-1]$; it is maximal if and only if $\mathcal{H}_\mathbf{s}=\mathcal{H}_Q[-1…
