We present a boundary integral equation solver for computing Taylor relaxed states in non-axisymmetric solid and shell-like toroidal geometries. The computation of Taylor states in these geometries is a key element for the calculation of stepped pressure stellarator equilibria. The integral representation of the magnetic field in this work is based on the generalized Debye source formulation, and results in a well-conditioned second-kind boundary integral equation. The integral equation solver is based on a spectral discretization of the geometry and unknowns, and the computation of the associated weakly-singular integrals is performed with high-order quadrature based on a partition of unity. The resulting scheme for applying the integral operator is then coupled with an iterative solver and suitable preconditioners. Several numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of our method, and a direct comparison with the leading code in the field is reported.
In this work we construct a multiderivative implicit-explicit (IMEX) scheme for a class of stiff ordinary differential equations. Our solver is high-order accurate and has an asymptotic preserving (AP) property. The proposed method is based upon a two-derivative backward Taylor series base solver, which we show has an AP property. Higher order accuracies are found by iterating the result over a high-order multiderivative interpolant of the right hand side function, which we again prove has an AP property. Theoretical results showcasing the asymptotic consistency as well as the high-order accur…
The connection of Taylor maps and polynomial neural networks (PNN) to solve ordinary differential equations (ODEs) numerically is considered. Having the system of ODEs, it is possible to calculate weights of PNN that simulates the dynamics of these equations. It is shown that proposed PNN architecture can provide better accuracy with less computational time in comparison with traditional numerical solvers. Moreover, neural network derived from the ODEs can be used for simulation of system dynamics with different initial conditions, but without training procedure. On the other hand, if the equa…
The Cauchy-Kowalewskaya (CK) procedure is a key building block in the design of solvers for the Generalised Rieman Problem (GRP) based on Taylor series expansions in time. The CK procedure allows us to express time derivatives in terms of purely space derivatives. This is a very cumbersome procedure, which often requires the use of software manipulators. In this paper, a simplification of the CK procedure is proposed in the context of implicit Taylor series expansion for GRP, for hyperbolic balance laws in the framework of [Journal of Computational Physics 303 (2015) 146-172]. A recursive form…
We employ textbook multigrid efficiency (TME), as introduced by Achi Brandt, to construct an asymptotically optimal monolithic multigrid solver for the Stokes system. The geometric multigrid solver builds upon the concept of hierarchical hybrid grids (HHG), which is extended to higher-order finite-element discretizations, and a corresponding matrix-free implementation. The computational cost of the full multigrid (FMG) iteration is quantified, and the solver is applied to multiple benchmark problems. Through a parameter study, we suggest configurations that achieve TME for both, stabilized equ…

We present a Hermite interpolation based partial differential equation solver for Hamilton-Jacobi equations. Many Hamilton-Jacobi equations have a nonlinear dependency on the gradient, which gives rise to discontinuities in the derivatives of the solution, resulting in kinks. We built our solver with two goals in mind: 1) high order accuracy in smooth regions and 2) sharp resolution of kinks. To achieve this, we use Hermite interpolation with a smoothness sensor. The degrees-of freedom of Hermite methods are tensor-product Taylor polynomials of degree $m$ in each coordinate direction. The meth…

In this paper, we propose a fast spectral-Galerkin method for solving PDEs involving integral fractional Laplacian in $\mathbb{R}^d$, which is built upon two essential components: (i) the Dunford-Taylor formulation of the fractional Laplacian; and (ii) Fourier-like bi-orthogonal mapped Chebyshev functions (MCFs) as basis functions. As a result, the fractional Laplacian can be fully diagonalised, and the complexity of solving an elliptic fractional PDE is quasi-optimal, i.e., $O((N\log_2N)^d)$ with $N$ being the number of modes in each spatial direction. Ample numerical tests for various decayi…

We present an algorithm for the numerical solution of systems of fully nonlinear PDEs using stochastic coded branching trees. This approach covers functional nonlinearities involving gradient terms of arbitrary orders, and it requires only a boundary condition over space at a given terminal time $T$ instead of Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions at all times as in standard solvers. Its implementation relies on Monte Carlo estimation, and uses neural networks that perform a meshfree functional estimation on a space-time domain. The algorithm is applied to the numerical solution of the Navi…
In this paper, the discontinuous Galerkin based high-order gas-kinetic schemes (DG-HGKS) are developed for the three-dimensional Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. Different from the traditional discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods with Riemann solvers, the current method adopts a kinetic evolution process, which is provided by the integral solution of Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) model. In the weak formulation of DG method, a time-dependent evolution function is provided, and both inviscid and viscous fluxes can be calculated uniformly. The temporal accuracy is achieved by the two-stage fourth-…
Partial differential equation-based numerical solution frameworks for initial and boundary value problems have attained a high degree of complexity. Applied to a wide range of physics with the ultimate goal of enabling engineering solutions, these approaches encompass a spectrum of spatiotemporal discretization techniques that leverage solver technology and high performance computing. While high-fidelity solutions can be achieved using these approaches, they come at a high computational expense and complexity. Systems with billions of solution unknowns are now routine. The expense and complexi…
