In this work, we deal with the initial value problem of the 5th-order Gardner equation in $\mathbb{R}$, presenting the local well-posedness result in $H^2(\mathbb{R})$. As a consequence of the local result, in addition to $H^2$-energy conservation law, we are able to prove the global well-posedness result in $H^2(\mathbb{R})$. Finally, we present a stability result for 5th order Gardner breather solution in the Sobolev space $H^2(\mathbb{R})$.
We show that breather solutions of the Gardner equation, a natural generalization of the KdV and mKdV equations, are $H^2(\mathbb{R})$ stable. Through a variational approach, we characterize Gardner breathers as minimizers of a new Lyapunov functional and we study the associated spectral problem, through $(i)$ the analysis of the spectrum of explicit linear systems (\emph{spectral stability}), and $(ii)$ controlling degenerated directions by using low regularity conservation laws.
In this paper, we determine spectral stability results of periodic waves for the critical Korteweg-de Vries and Gardner equations. For the first equation, we show that both positive and zero mean periodic traveling wave solutions possess a threshold value which may provides us a rupture in the spectral stability. Concerning the second equation, we establish the existence of periodic waves using a Galilean transformation on the periodic cnoidal solution for the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation and for both equations, the threshold values are the same. The main advantage presented in our pape…
We carry out a systematic analytical and numerical study of spectral stability of discontinuous roll wave solutions of the inviscid Saint Venant equations, based on a periodic Evans-Lopatinski determinant analogous to the periodic Evans function of Gardner in the (smooth) viscous case, obtaining a complete spectral stability diagram useful in hydraulic engineering and related applications. In particular, we obtain an explicit low-frequency stability boundary, which, moreover, matches closely with its (numerically-determined) counterpart in the viscous case. This is seen to be related to but no…
The main result of the paper is a global asymptotic stability result for solutions to the Lifschitz-Slyozov-Wagner (LSW) system of equations. This extends some local asymptotic stability results of Niethammer-Velázquez (2006). The method of proof is along similar lines to the one used in a previous paper of the authors. This previous paper proves global asymptotic stability for a class of infinite dimensional dynamical systems for which no Lyapounov function is (apparently) available.
We consider a fractional radiative transport equation, where the time derivative is of half order in the Caputo sense. By establishing Carleman estimates, we prove the global Lipschitz stability in determining the coefficients of the one-dimensional time-fractional radiative transport equation of half-order.
This paper studies the solutions of a reaction--diffusion system with nonlinearities that generalise the Lengyel--Epstein and FitzHugh--Nagumo nonlinearities. Sufficient conditions are derived for the global asymptotic stability of the system's solutions and confirmed through numerical Examples.
In this paper, for evolutionary Faddeev model corresponding to maps from the Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}^{1+n}$ to the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$, we show the global nonlinear stability of geodesic solutions, which are a kind of nontrivial and large solutions.
This paper is concerned with establishing global asymptotic stability results for a class of non-linear PDE which have some similarity to the PDE of the Lifschitz-Slyozov-Wagner model. The method of proof does not involve a Lyapounov function. It is shown that stability for the PDE is equivalent to stability for a differential delay equation. Stability for the delay equation is proven by exploiting certain maximal properties. These are established by using the methods of optimal control theory.
In this short paper we prove a global logarithmic stability of the Cauchy problem for H 2-solutions of an anisotropic elliptic equation in a Lip-schitz domain. The result we obtained is based on tools borrowed from the existing technics to establish stability estimate for the Cauchy problem [4] (see also [1]) combined with tools we already used in [6] to study an inverse medium problem.
The method of Lyapunov functions is one of the most effective ones for the investigation of stability of dynamical systems, in particular, of stochastic differential systems. The main purpose of the paper is the analysis of the stability of stochastic differential equations by using Lyapunov functions when the origin is not necessarily an equilibrium point. The global uniform boundedness and the global practical uniform exponential stability of so- lutions of stochastic differential equations based on Lyapunov techniques are investigated. Furthermore, an example is given to illustrate the appl…
We prove global stability for a system of nonlinear wave equations satisfying a generalized null condition. The generalized null condition allows for null forms whose coefficients have bounded $C^k$ norms. We prove both pointwise decay and improved decay of good derivatives using bilinear energy estimates and duality arguments. Combining this strategy with the $r^p$ estimates of Dafermos--Rodnianski then allows us to prove global stability. The proof requires analyzing the geometry of intersecting null hypersurfaces adapted to solutions of wave equations.
For linearized Navier-Stokes equations, we consider an inverse source problem of determining a spatially varying divergence-free factor. We prove the global Lipschitz stability by interior data over a time interval and velocity field at $t_0>0$ over the spatial domain. The key are Carleman estimates for the Navier-Stokes equations and the operator rot.
The global stability of the nonhomogeneous positive steady state solution to a diffusive Holling-Tanner predator-prey model in a heterogeneous environment is proved by using a newly constructed Lyapunov function and estimates of nonconstant steady state solutions. The techniques developed here can be adapted for other spatially heterogeneous consumer-resource models.
In this paper, we are concerned with the global existence and stability of a 3-D perturbed viscous circulatory flow around an infinite long cylinder. This flow is described by 3-D compressible Navier-Stokes equations. By introducing some suitably weighted energy spaces and establishing a priori estimates, we show that the 3-D cylindrical symmetric circulatory flow is globally stable in time when the corresponding initial states are perturbed suitably small.
We consider the inverse problem of determining the Winkler subgrade reaction coefficient of a slab foundation modelled as a thin elastic plate clamped at the boundary. The plate is loaded by a concentrated force and its transversal deflection is measured at the interior points. We prove a global Hölder stability estimate under (mild) regularity assumptions on the unknown coefficient.
We consider the 3D incompressible Hall-MHD system and prove a stability theorem for global large solutions under a suitable integrable hypothesis in which one of the parcels is linked to the Hall term. As a byproduct, a class of global strong solutions is obtained with large velocities and small initial magnetic fields. Moreover, we prove the local-in-time well-posedness of $H^{2}$-strong solutions which improves previous regularity conditions on initial data.
In this paper, we are concerned with the following prey-taxis system with fluid surrounding describing by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a bounded domain with smooth boundary. We show that it has global classical solutions and give decay properties of these solutions.
In this paper, we consider nonlinear thermoelastic systems of Timoshenko type in a one-dimensional bounded domain. The system has two dissipative mechanisms being present in the equation for transverse displacement and rotation angle - a frictional damping and a dissipation through hyperbolic heat conduction modelled by Cattaneo's law, respectively. The global existence of small, smooth solutions and the exponential stability in linear and nonlinear cases are established.
In this paper, we prove that 2 dimensional transversal small perturbations of d-dimensional Euclidean planes under the skew mean curvature flow lead to global solutions which converge to the unperturbed planes in suitable norms. And we clarify the long time behaviors of the solutions in Sobolev spaces.
We consider the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation with two pure-power nonlinearities and a damping term. After proving a general global existence result, we focus on the existence and stability of several periodic orbits, namely the trivial equilibrium, bound-states and solutions independent of the spatial variable. In particular, we construct bound-states either explicitly in the real line or through a bifurcation argument for a double eigenvalue of the Dirichlet-Laplace operator on bounded domains.
We show global well-posedness and exponential stability of equilibria for a general class of nonlinear dissipative bulk-interface systems. They correspond to thermodynamically consistent gradient structure models of bulk-interface interaction. The setting includes nonlinear slow and fast diffusion in the bulk and nonlinear coupled diffusion on the interface. Additional driving mechanisms can be included and non-smooth geometries and coefficients are admissible, to some extent. An important application are volume-surface reaction-diffusion systems with nonlinear coupled diffusion.
A diffusive Lotka-Volterra competition model is considered for the combined effect of spatial dispersal and spatial variations of resource on the population persistence and exclusion. First it is shown that in a two-species system in which the diffusion coefficients, resource functions and competition rates are all spatially heterogeneous, the positive equilibrium solution is globally asymptotically stable when it exists. Secondly the existence and global asymptotic stability of the positive and semi-trivial equilibrium solutions are obtained for the model with arbitrary number of species unde…
We study the global stability issue of the reaction-convection-diffusion cholera epidemic PDE model and show that the basic reproduction number serves as a threshold parameter that predicts whether cholera will persist or become globally extinct. Specifically, when the basic reproduction number is beneath one, we show that the disease-free-equilibrium is globally attractive. On the other hand, when the basic reproduction number exceeds one, if the infectious hosts or the concentration of bacteria in the contaminated water are not initially identically zero, we prove the uniform persistence res…
We consider a system of reaction-diffusion equations including chemotaxis terms and coming out of the modeling of multiple sclerosis. The global existence of strong solutions to this system in any dimension is proved, and it is also shown that the solution is bounded uniformly in time. Finally, a nonlinear stability result is obtained when the chemotaxis term is not too big. We also perform numerical simulations to show the appearance of Turing patterns when the chemotaxis term is large.
The classical one-phase Stefan problem (without surface tension) allows for a continuum of steady state solutions, given by an arbitrary (but sufficiently smooth) domain together with zero temperature. We prove global-in-time stability of such steady states, assuming a sufficient degree of smoothness on the initial domain, but without any a priori restriction on the convexity properties of the initial shape. This is an extension of our previous result [28] in which we studied nearly spherical shapes.

In this paper, we obtain the global-in-$x$ Sobolev stability of Prandtl layer expansions for 2-D steady incompressible MHD flows with shear outer ideal MHD flows $(1,0,σ,0)$ ($σ\geq 0$) on a moving plate. It is worth noticing that in the Sobolev sense, the degeneracy of the tangential magnetic field in our result is allowed, which is much different from both the unsteady case in [25,26,27] and the steady case in [3,4].
We consider the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (IBNLS) $$ i u_t +Δ^2 u+λ|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0, $$ where $λ=\pm 1$ and $α$, $b>0$. We show local and global well-posedness in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^N)$ in the $H^s$-subcritical case, with $s=0,2$. Moreover, we prove a stability result in $H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$, in the mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical case. The fundamental tools to prove these results are the standard Strichartz estimates related to the linear problem.
In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem of one-dimensional isentropic compressible Euler equations with the source term $βρ|u|^αu$. By means of wave decomposition and the uniform a-priori estimates, we prove the global existence of smooth solutions under small perturbations around the supersonic Fanno flow. Then, by Gronwall's inequality, we get the smooth solution is time-periodic.
In this paper we study global nonlinear stability for the Dirac-Klein-Gordon system in two and three space dimensions for small and regular initial data. In the case of two space dimensions, we consider the Dirac-Klein-Gordon system with a massless Dirac field and a massive scalar field, and prove global existence, sharp time decay estimates and linear scattering for the solutions. In the case of three space dimensions, we consider the Dirac-Klein-Gordon system with a mass parameter in the Dirac equation, and prove uniform (in the mass parameter) global existence, unified time decay estimates …
We consider the so-called prion equation with the general incidence term introduced in [Greer et al., 2007], and we investigate the stability of the steady states. The method is based on the reduction technique introduced in [Gabriel, 2012]. The argument combines a recent spectral gap result for the growth-fragmentation equation in weighted $L^1$ spaces and the analysis of a nonlinear system of three ordinary differential equations.
A key feature of $(1+1)$-dimensional nonlinear wave equations is that they admit left or right traveling waves, under appropriate algebraic conditions on the nonlinearities. In this paper, we prove global stability of such traveling wave solutions for $(1+1)$-dimensional systems of nonlinear wave equations, given a certain asymptotic null condition and sufficient decay for the traveling wave. We first consider semilinear systems as a simpler model problem; we then proceed to treat more general quasilinear systems.
We study regularity of a hydrodynamic singular model of collective behavior introduced in \cite{ST1}. In this note we address the question of global well-posedness in multi-dimensional settings. It is shown that any initial data $(u,ρ)$ with small velocity variations $|u(x) - u(y)| < \e$ relative to its higher order norms, gives rise to a unique global regular solution which aligns and flocks exponentially fast. Moreover, we prove that the limiting flocks are stable.
We consider inverse problems of determining coefficients or time independent factors of source terms in radiative transport equations by means of Carleman estimate. We establish global Lipschitz stability results with an additional condition which requires some strict positivity for initial value or given factor of source, but we need not any extra conditions on domains of velocities, which is the main achievement of this article compared with the existing work by Machida and Yamamoto ({\it Inverse Problems} {\bf 30} 035010, 2014). The proof relies on a Carleman estimate with a piecewise linea…
In this paper, we investigate the stability of Boltzmann equation with large external potential in $\mathbb{T}^3$. For a class of initial data with large oscillations in $L^\infty_{x,v}$ around the local Maxwellian, we prove the existence of a global solution to the Boltzmann equation provided the initial perturbation is suitably small in $L^2$-norm. The large time behavior of the Boltzmann solution with exponential decay rate is also obtained. This seems to be the first result on the perturbation theory of large-amplitude non-constant equilibriums for large-amplitude initial data.
