This paper is concerned with an uniqueness of solution of the weak formulation of an evolution dam problem related to a compressible fluid flow through a two-dimensional, rectangular and heterogeneous porous medium. Note that our problem associated with the equation a(x_1)(u_{x_2}+χ)_{x_2}-(u+χ)_t=0. Our technique is based on the idea that we transform the weak form of this equation into a similar situation to the proof of the uniqueness in the incompressible case (see [12]). It is also difficult to adapt the proof obtained in [12] by using some properties of the solutions as in [12, Sect. 2].
We establish uniqueness of the solution of the unsteady state dam problem in the heterogeneous and rectangular case assuming the dam wet at the bottom and dry near to the top.
We consider the wave equation with a damping term on a partially rectangular planar domain, assuming that the damping is concentrated close to the non-rectangular part of the domain. Polynomial decay estimates for the energy of the solution are established.

In this paper, we investigate the stability of coupled equations modelling a 2D piezoelectric beam with magnetic effect with only one local viscous damping on a rectangular domain without geometric conditions. We prove that the energy of the system decays polynomially with the rate 1/t .
By choosing convenient test functions and using the method of doubling variables, we prove the uniqueness of the solution to a nonlinear evolution dam problem in an arbitrary heterogeneous porous medium of IR^n with an impermeable horizontal bottom.
In this paper we show the global well-posedness of solutions to a three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) model in porous media. Compared to the classical MHD equations, our system involves a nonlinear damping term in the momentum equations due to the "Brinkman-Forcheimer-extended-Darcy" law of flow in porous media.
The final goal of this paper is to prove existence of local (strong) solutions to a (fully nonlinear) porous medium equation with blow-up term and nondecreasing constraint. To this end, the equation, arising in the context of Damage Mechanics, is reformulated as a mixed form of two different types of doubly nonlinear evolution equations. Global (in time) solutions to some approximate problems are constructed by performing a time discretization argument and by taking advantage of energy techniques based on specific structures of the equation. Moreover, a variational comparison principle for (po…
In 1992, Hsiao and Liu \cite{Hsiao-Liu-1} firstly showed that the solution to the compressible Euler equations with damping time-asymptotically converges to the diffusion wave $(\bar v, \bar u)$ of the porous media equation. In \cite{Geng-Huang-Jin-Wu}, we proposed a time-asymptotic expansion around the diffusion wave $(\bar v, \bar u)$, which is a better asymptotic profile than $(\bar v, \bar u)$. In this paper, we rigorously justify the time-asymptotic expansion by the approximate Green function method and the energy estimates. Moreover, the large time behavior of the solution to compressibl…
In this paper, we consider the one-dimensional isentropic compressible Euler equations with linear damping $β(t,x)ρu$ in a bounded domain, which can be used to describe the process of compressible flows through a porous medium.~And the model is imposed a dissipative subsonic time-periodic boundary condition.~Our main results reveal that the time-periodic boundary can trigger a unique subsonic time-periodic smooth solution which is stable under small perturbations on initial data. Moreover, the time-periodic solution possesses higher regularity and stability provided a higher regular boundary c…
In this paper, we prove the leading term of time-asymptotics of the moving vacuum boundary for compressible inviscid flows with damping to be that for Barenblatt self-similar solutions to the corresponding porous media equations obtained by simplifying momentum equations via Darcy's law plus the possible shift due to the movement of the center of mass, in the one-dimensional and three-dimensional spherically symmetric motions, respectively. This gives a complete description of the large time asymptotic behavior of solutions to the corresponding vacuum free boundary problems. The results obtain…
The large time behavior of entropy solution to the compressible Euler equations for polytropic gas (the pressure $p(ρ)=κρ^γ, γ>1$) with time dependent damping like $-\frac{1}{(1+t)^λ}ρu$ ($0<λ<1$) is investigated. By introducing an elaborate iterative method and using the intensive entropy analysis, it is proved that the $L^\infty$ entropy solution of compressible Euler equations with finite initial mass converges strongly in the natural $L^1$ topology to a fundamental solution of porous media equation (PME) with time-dependent diffusion, called by generalized Barenblatt solution. It is intere…
For the physical vacuum free boundary problem with the sound speed being $C^{{1}/{2}}$-H$\ddot{\rm o}$lder continuous near vacuum boundaries of the three-dimensional compressible Euler equations with damping, the global existence of spherically symmetric smooth solutions is proved, which are shown to converge to Barenblatt self-similar solutions of the porous media equation with the same total masses when initial data are small perturbations of Barenblatt solutions. The pointwise convergence with a rate of density, the convergence rate of velocity in supreme norm and the precise expanding rate…
For the physical vacuum free boundary problem with the sound speed being $C^{{1}/{2}}$-H$\ddot{\rm o}$lder continuous near vacuum boundaries of the one-dimensional compressible Euler equations with damping, the global existence of the smooth solution is proved, which is shown to converge to the Barenblatt self-similar solution for the the porous media equation with the same total mass when the initial data is a small perturbation of the Barenblatt solution. The pointwise convergence with a rate of density, the convergence rate of velocity in supereme norm and the precise expanding rate of the …
We study a coupled fluid-structure system involving boundary conditions on the pressure. The fluid is described by the incompressible Navier--Stokes equations in a 2D rectangular type domain where the upper part of the domain is described by a damped Euler--Bernoulli beam equation. Existence and uniqueness of local strong solutions without assumptions of smallness on the initial data is proved.
First, we consider Kolmogorov flow (a shear flow with a sinusoidal velocity profile) for 2D Navier-Stokes equation on a torus. Such flows, also called bar states, have been numerically observed as one type of metastable states in the study of 2D turbulence. For both rectangular and square tori, we prove that the non-shear part of perturbations near Kolmogorov flow decays in a time scale much shorter than the viscous time scale. The results are obtained for both the linearized NS equations with any initial vorticity in L^2, and the nonlinear NS equation with initial L^2 norm of vorticity of the…
We are interested in studying a system coupling the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with an elastic structure located at the boundary of the fluid domain. Initially the fluid domain is rectangular and the beam is located on the upper side of the rectangle. The elastic structure is modeled by an Euler-Bernoulli damped beam equation. We prove the local in time existence of strong solutions for that coupled system.
In this paper, the smooth solution of the physical vacuum problem for the one dimensional compressible Euler equations with time-dependent damping is considered. Near the vacuum boundary, the sound speed is $C^{1/2}$-Hölder continuous. The coefficient of the damping depends on time, given by this form $\fracμ{(1+t)^λ}$, $λ$, $μ>0$, which decays by order $-λ$ in time. Under the assumption that $0<λ<1$, $0<μ$ or $λ=1$, $2<μ$, we will prove the global existence of smooth solutions and convergence to the modified Barenblatt solution of the related porous media equation with time-dependent dissipat…
For the three-dimensional vacuum free boundary problem with physical singularity that the sound speed is $C^{ {1}/{2}}$-H$\ddot{\rm o}$lder continuous across the vacuum boundary of the compressible Euler equations with damping, without any symmetry assumptions, we prove the almost global existence of smooth solutions when the initial data are small perturbations of the Barenblatt self-similar solutions to the corresponding porous media equations simplified via Darcy's law. It is proved that if the initial perturbation is of the size of $ε$, then the existing time for smooth solutions is at lea…
We study a nonlinear coupled fluid-structure system modelling the blood flow through arteries. The fluid is described by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a 2D rectangular domain where the upper part depends on a structure satisfying a damped Euler-Bernoulli beam equation. The system is driven by time-periodic source terms on the inflow and outflow boundaries. We prove the existence of time-periodic strong solutions for this problem under smallness assumptions for the source terms.
Global Existence and Asymptotic Equivalence to Barenblatt-type Solutions for the Physical Vacuum Free Boundary Problem of Damped Compressible Euler Equations in M-D
Derivation of macroscopic models for advection-diffusion processes in the presence of dominant heterogeneous (e.g., surface) reactions using homogenisation theory or volume averaging is often deemed unfeasible due to the strong coupling between scales that characterise such systems. In this work, we show how the upscaling can be carried out by applying and extending the methods presented in literature. The approach relies on the decomposition of the microscale concentration into a reactive component, given by the eigenfunction of the advection-diffusion operator, the associated eigenvalue whic…
The modeling of coupled fluid transport and deformation in a porous medium is essential to predict the various geomechanical process such as CO2 sequestration, hydraulic fracturing, and so on. Current applications of interest, for instance, that include fracturing or damage of the solid phase, require a nonlinear description of the large deformations that can occur. This paper presents a variational energy-based continuum mechanics framework to model large-deformation poroelasticity. The approach begins from the total free energy density that is additively composed of the free energy of the co…
