In this article we study the prospects of the proposed Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) in the search for heavy neutral scalar particles. We consider a minimal model with one additional complex scalar singlet that interacts with the Standard Model (SM) via mixing with the Higgs doublet, giving rise to a SM-like Higgs boson $h_1$ and a heavy scalar particle $h_2$. Both scalar particles are produced via vector boson fusion and can be tested via their decays into pairs of SM particles, analogously to the SM Higgs boson. Using multivariate techniques we show that the LHeC is sensitive to $h_2$ with masses between 200 and 800 GeV down to scalar mixing of $\sin^2 α\sim 10^{-3}$.
We study the production and decay of a light charged Higgs boson at the future Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) in the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Type III, assuming a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential. We analyze the charge current production processes $e^- p \to ν_e q H^+ $ considering the signature $H^+ \to c \bar{b} + c.c.$ of the final state. We take this signature and we compare it to the irreducible background from Standard Model (SM) interactions. We consider scenarios of the model which are consistent with current experimental data from…

The future Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) would enable collisions of an intense electron beam with either protons or heavy ions at the High Luminosity-Large Hadron Collider (HL- LHC). With a center of mass energy greater than a TeV and a high luminosity, the LHeC would be a new-generation collider for deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) and a significant facility for precise Higgs physics, complementing pp and electron-positron colliders. Anomalous hadronic decay signatures of the Higgs Boson, such as those into three or more partons, are challenging to detect at the LHC due to high backgro…
Once the existence of the Higgs boson is established at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the focus will be shifted toward understanding its couplings to other particles. A crucial aspect is the measurement of the bottom Yukawa coupling, which is challenging at the LHC. In this paper we study the use of forward jet tagging as a means to secure the observation and to significantly improve the purity of the Higgs boson signal in the H to bbar decay mode from deep inelastic electron-proton scattering at the LHC. We demonstrate that the requirement of forward jet tagging in charged current eve…
We consider the production of a single top quark in association with a $W$ boson at LHeC based $γp$ collider. We compute the cross section for the process $γp\rightarrow WtX$ with the anomalous $Wtb$ and $Wtbγ$ couplings. We find that the sensitivities to anomalous couplings of top quark are shown to be comparable, even better than the ones obtained from direct searches at hadron colliders.
In this paper, we study the single top and Higgs associated production $\rm e^- p\rightarrow ν_e \bar{t} \rightarrow ν_e h \bar{q}(h\rightarrow b\bar{b})$ in the top-Higgs FCNC couplings at the LHeC with the electron beam energy of $E_{e}$ = 60 GeV and $E_{e}$ = 120 GeV, combination of a 7 TeV and 50 TeV proton beam. With the possibility of e-beam polarization ($p_{e}$ = 0, $\pm0.6$), we distinct the Cut-based method and the Multivariate Analysis (MVA) based method, and compare with the current experimental and theoretical limits. It is shown that the branching ratio Br $\rm(t\to uh)$ can be p…
The prospects for a measurement of nuclear parton distribution functions (PDFs) at the Large Hadron--Electron Collider are discussed in the light of recent progress made in the front of global analysis of nuclear PDFs.
The future electron-proton collider proposals, LHeC and FCC-he, can deliver $\mathcal{O}$(TeV) center-of-mass energy collisions, higher than most of the proposed lepton accelerators, with $\mathcal{O}$(ab$^{-1}$) luminosity, while maintaining a much cleaner experimental environment as compared to the hadron machines. This unique capability of $e^- p$ colliders can be harnessed in probing BSM scenarios giving final states that look like hadronic noise at $pp$ machines. In the present study, we explore the prospects of detecting such a prompt signal having multiple soft jets at the LHeC. Such a …
We study the prospects for constraining the nuclear parton distribution functions by small-x deep inelastic scattering. Performing a global fit of nuclear parton distribution functions including a sample of pseudodata representing expected measurements at the planned LHeC collider, we demonstrate that the accuracy of the present nuclear parton distributions could be be improved substantially. We also discuss the impact of flavour-tagged data.
Profiling the Higgs boson requires the study of its non-standard decay modes. In this work we discuss the prospects of the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) to detect scalar particles with masses $\gtrsim$ 10 GeV produced from decays of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson. These scalar particles decay mainly to bottom pairs, and in a vast portion of the allowed parameter space they acquire a macroscopic lifetime, hence giving rise to displaced hadronic vertices. The LHeC provides a very clean environment that allows for easy identification of these final states, in contrast to hadronic col…
We explore leptoquark production and decay for the $\tilde{R}_{2}$ class of models at the proposed $e^{-} p$ collider LHeC, planned to operate with 150 GeV electron and 7 TeV proton beams. In addition to the coupling of leptoquark with the lepton and jet, the model also has right handed neutrinos, coupled to the leptoquark. We analyse the collider signatures of a number of final states, that can originate from leptoquark decay into the standard model particles, as well as, the final states that originate from further decay of the heavy neutrinos, produced from leptoquark. We find that the fina…
We analyze the prospect for observing the lightest and heaviest CP-even neutral Higgs bosons ($ϕ=h,\;H$) in their decays to flavor violating $b\bar{s}$ (with charge conjugate) final states at the future Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC), in the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Model type III (2HDM-III) assuming a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential. We consider the charge current production processes $e^- p \to ν_e ϕq_f$ ($ϕ= h, \; H$), with the flavor violating decays of the Higgs bosons. We consider scenarios of the model which are consistent with cur…
The inclusion of heavy neutral leptons (right-handed neutrinos) to the Standard Model (SM) particle content is one of the best motivated ways to account for the observed neutrino masses and flavor mixing. The modification of the charged and neutral currents from active-sterile mixing of the neutral leptons can provide novel signatures which can be tested at the future collider experiments. In this article, we explore the discovery prospect of a very heavy right handed neutrino to probe such extensions at the future collider experiments like Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) and liner colli…
Recent strong experimental evidence of a narrow exotic S = +1 baryon resonance, $Θ^+$, suggests the existence of other exotic baryons. We discuss the prospects of confirming earlier experimental evidence of $Θ^+$ and the observation of additional hypothetical exotic baryons in $e^+e^-$ annihilations and $γγ$ collisions at LEP and B Factories.
The measurement of the Higgs quartic coupling modifier between a Higgs boson pair and a vector boson pair, $κ_{2V}$, is expected to be achieved from vector-boson fusion (VBF) production of a Higgs boson pair. However, this process involves another unmeasured parameter, the trilinear Higgs self-coupling modifier $κ_{λ}$. A sensitivity analysis should target both parameters. Since the LHC cannot avoid the gluon fusion pollution, which becomes severe for non-SM $κ_{λ}$, an electron-proton collider is more appropriate for the comprehensive measurement. In this regard, we study the VBF production o…
We have analyzed the prospects of observing the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson ($h_1$) via decays into $b \bar b$ pairs in the neutral and charged current production processes $e^- q \to e^- h_1 q$ and $e^- q\to ν_e h_1 q'$, respectively, at the planneded large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC), with an $e^-$ beam energy of 60 GeV and a $p$ beam energy of 7 TeV. We also focus on observing a relatively light charged Higgs boson ($h^{-}$) via its production mode $e^- b \to ν_e h^{-} b$ followed by the decays $h^{-} \to s \bar c + s \bar u$ at the upcoming Future Circular Collider in hadron-e…
We discuss the prospects for charged Higgs boson searches at the LHC, within the two-Higgs-doublet models (2HDM). The 2HDM is generally less constrained than the corresponding sector of the MSSM, but there are still severe theoretical and experimental constraints that already exclude significant regions of the naive parameter space. Explicit searches in the $H^+\toτ^+ν$ and $H^+\to t\bar b$ channels are further restricting parts of the 2HDM parameter space.
The installation of forward proton detectors at the LHC will provide the possibility to observe central exclusive processes, opening a novel window on physics beyond the Standard Model. We review recent developments on the discovery potential from central exclusive light-by-light scattering. The search for this process is expected to provide bounds on a wide range of particles, and turns out to be complementary from new physics searches in inclusive channels.
We examine the prospects of detecting sfermions at a gamma gamma collider. Once produced, a slepton can decay into a pair of quarks (jets) through R-parity violating interactions. Similarly, a squark may decay into a lepton-quark pair. Analyzing the corresponding Standard Model backgrounds, namely 4-jet and dilepton plus dijet final states respectively, we show that the sfermion can be detected almost right upto the kinematic limit and its mass determined to a fair degree of accuracy. Similar statements also hold for nonsupersymmetric leptoquarks and diquarks.
At hadron colliders the $γγ+jet$ channel provides larger signal-to-background ratio in comparison with inclusive $γγ$ channel in hunting for scalars uncharged under the SM gauge group. At NLO in QCD perturbation theory we evaluate selfconsistently the signal significance for the SM Higgs boson production in $γγ+jet$ channel at LHC. Three-body final state kinematics allows for refined cuts. The adjustment of these cuts increases the signal significance upto the level of inclusive channel. Applying a justified simple rescaling procedure to the results obtained for SM Higgs boson, we estimate the…
Hadron colliders are providing a unique opportunity for testing Lorentz invariance and CPT symmetry at high energy and in a laboratory. A first measurement in the top-quark sector was performed at the Tevatron. We present here prospective studies for testing Lorentz invariance in top-quark pair production at the LHC and future colliders. The b-quark sector was investigated recently at LHCb. Eventually, new bounds on photon parameters can be extracted from the observation of TeV photons at the LHC. We will conclude by highlighting other opportunities provided by hadron colliders.
This paper investigates a signature of Lorentz invariance violation with the $t\bar{t}$ production at the LHC and future hadron colliders. Possible deviations from the Lorentz symmetry remain poorly constrained in the top quark sector. With a dedicated analysis of $t\bar{t}$ events produced at the LHC, bounds in the top sector can be improved by up to three orders of magnitude relative to Tevatron, the only measurement existing so far. The sensitivity will be even further enhanced at the HL-LHC and future colliders.
We study the production of a light charged Higgs boson at the future Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC), through the process $e^- p \to ν_e H^- q$ considering both decay channels $H^- \to b \bar c$ and $H^- \to τ\bar ν_τ$ in the final state. We analyse these processes in the context of the 2-Higgs Doublet Model Type III (2HDM-III) and assess the LHeC sensitivity to such $H^-$ signals against a variety of both reducible and irreducible backgrounds. We confirm that prospects for $H^-$ detection in the 2HDM-III are excellent assuming standard collider energy and luminosity conditions.
New studies of the ATLAS and CMS collaborations are presented on the sensitivity to searches for non-standard signatures of particular SUSY scenarios. These signatures include non-pointing photons, as well as pairs of prompt photons, as expected in GMSB SUSY models, as well as heavy stable charged particles produced in split supersymmetry models, long lived staus from GMSB SUSY and long lived stops in other SUSY scenarios. A detailed detector simulation is used for the study, and all relevant Standard Model backgrounds and detector effects that can mimic these special signatures are included. …
After the observation of a Higgs boson near 125 GeV, the high energy physics community is investigating possible next steps for entering into a new era in particle physics. It is planned that the Large Hadron Collider will deliver an integrated luminosity of up to 3000/fb for the CMS and ATLAS experiments, requiring several upgrades for all detectors. The reach of various representative searches for supersymmetry and exotica physics with the upgraded detectors are discussed in this context, where a very high instantaneous luminosity will lead to a large number of pileup events in each bunch cr…
While most BSM searches at the LHC focus on heavy new states, the NMSSM contains the possibility of new light states that have escaped detection due to their singlet nature. Here we focus on light pseudoscalars, investigating the parameter space impact of recent LHC searches for such light states stemming from the decay of the 125 GeV Higgs boson. It is shown that, though direct searches can not yet compete with the requirement of the 125 GeV scalar having SM-like couplings, the searches are touching the allowed parameter space and should make a phenomenological impact in the near future.
We present a method how to detect the WH -> lnbb in the high luminosity LHC environment with the CMS detector. This study is performed with fast detector response simulation including high luminosity event pile up. The main aspects of reconstruction are pile up jet rejection, identification of b-jets and improvement of Higgs mass resolution. The detection potential in the SM for m(H) < 130 GeV and in the MSSM is only encouraging for high integrated luminosity. Nevertheless it is possible to extract important Higgs parameters which are useful to elucidate the nature of the Higgs sector. In comb…
Unlike the relic photons, relic neutrinos have not so far been observed. The Cosmic Neutrino Background (C$ν$B) is the oldest relic from the Big Bang, produced a few seconds after the Bang itself. Due to their impact in cosmology, relic neutrinos may be revealed indireclty in the near future through cosmological observations. In this talk we concentrate on other proposals, made in the last 30 years, to try to detect the C$ν$B directly, either in laboratory searches (through tiny accelerations they produce on macroscopic targets) or through astrophysical observations (looking for absorption dip…
Motivated by recent progress in experimental techniques of electric dipole moment (EDM) measurements, we study correlations between the neutron and electron EDMs in common supersymmetric models. These include minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) with small CP phases, mSUGRA with a heavy SUSY spectrum, the decoupling scenario and split SUSY. In most cases, the electron and neutron EDMs are found to be observable in the next round of EDM experiments. They exhibit certain correlation patterns. For example, if d_n ~ 10^{-27} e cm is found, d_e is predicted to lie in the range 10^{-28}-10^{-29} e cm.
We propose a search for direct production and decay of the lightest supersymmetric Higgs boson to two neutralinos in gauge mediated models at the Fermilab Tevatron. We focus on the final state where each neutralino decays to photon and light gravitino with a lifetime of order O(ns). In the detector this will show up as a photon with a time-delayed signature and missing E_T. We estimate that using the photon timing system at CDF, and the full 10/fb data sample, that the sensitivity can be within a factor of three in some regions of parameter space for direct production of the Higgs.
We analyze the prospects for observing the CP-even neutral Higgs bosons (h and H) in their decays into flavor violating $b \bar s+ c.c.$ channels at the proposed LHeC, with $\sqrt s \approx 1.3$ TeV, in the 2HDM Type-III, assuming a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential. We consider theoretically consistent scenarios in agreement with current experimental data from flavor and Higgs physics. We investigate the charged current production process $ν_e ϕq$ in presence of flavor violating decays of the Higgs bosons, that lead to a 3-jets + $E\!\!\!\!/_T$ signature. …
We analyze the prospects of observing the light CP-even neutral Higgs bosons ($h_1$) in their decays into $b \bar b$ quarks, in the neutral and charged current production processes $e h_1 q$ and $νh_1 q$ at the upcoming LHeC, with $\sqrt s \approx 1.296$ TeV. Assuming that the intermediate Higgs boson ($h_2$) is Standard Model (SM)-like, we study the Higgs production within the framework of NMSSM. We consider the constraints from Dark-matter, Sparticle masses, and the Higgs boson data. The signal in our analysis can be classified as three jets, with electron (missing energy)coming from the neu…
We report on the potential for the discovery of a Standard Model Higgs boson with the vector boson fusion mechanism in the mass range $115<M_H<500 \gev$ with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Feasibility studies at hadron level followed by a fast detector simulation have been performed for $H\to W^{(*)}W^{(*)}\to l^+l^-\sla{p_T}$, $H\toγγ$ and $H\to ZZ\to l^+l^-q\bar{q}$. The results obtained show a large discovery potential in the range $115<M_H<300 \gev$. Results obtained with multivariate techniques are reported for a number of channels.
We present the prospects of searches for neutral, long-lived particles which decay to photons using their time of arrival measured with a newly installed timing system on the electromagnetic calorimeter (EMTiming) of the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). A Monte Carlo simulation shows that EMTiming can provide separation between decay photons from particles with both a long lifetime and a low boost, and prompt photons from Standard Model backgrounds. Using a gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) $\tildeχ_{1}^{0}\toγ\tilde{G}$ model we estimate a quasi-model-independent sensitivity us…
The neutrino oscillation probabilities in vacuum and matter are discussed, considering the framework of three active and one light sterile neutrinos. We study in detail the rephasing invariants and CP asymmetry observables, and investigate the four-neutrino oscillations in long-baseline neutrino experiments, such as DUNE, NO$ν$A and T2HK. Our results show that the matter effect enhances quite a significantly the oscillation probabilities of electron neutrino and electron antineutrino appearance channels within a certain energy range, while no considerable change arises in the CP asymmetry anal…
The type II seesaw mechanism is an attractive way to generate the observed light neutrino masses. It postulates a SU(2)$_\mathrm{L}$-triplet scalar field, which develops an induced vacuum expectation value after electroweak symmetry breaking, giving masses to the neutrinos via its couplings to the lepton SU(2)$_\mathrm{L}$-doublets. When the components of the triplet field have masses around the electroweak scale, the model features a rich phenomenology. We discuss the current allowed parameter space of the minimal low scale type II seesaw model, taking into account all relevant constraints, i…
We reexamine the constrained version of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with semi universal parameters at the GUT scale (CNMSSM). We include constraints from collider searches for Higgs and SUSY particles, upper bound on the relic density of dark matter, measurements of the muon anomalous magnetic moment and of B-physics observables as well as direct searches for dark matter. We then study the prospects for direct detection of dark matter in large scale detectors and comment on the prospects for discovery of heavy Higgs states at the LHC.
We investigate the prospects for the discovery of a neutral Higgs boson produced in association with a $b$ quark, followed by the Higgs decay into a pair of bottom quarks, $pp \to bϕ^0 \to b b\bar{b} +X$, at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) within the framework of unified supersymmetric models. The Higgs boson $ϕ^0$ can be a heavy scalar $H^0$ or a pseudoscalar $A^0$. Furthermore, this direct discovery channel is compared with the indirect Higgs searches in the rare decay $B_s \to μ^+μ^-$ at hadron colliders. Promising results are found for the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model, the anom…
If the new boson is lying in the narrow mass range between 122 - 127 GeV is confirmed to be a Higgs boson, then stability of the electroweak vacuum in a minimal model with a universal extra dimension (mUED) will require a much lower cutoff for the theory than has been envisaged earlier. We show that this low cutoff would lead to important changes in much of the mUED phenomenology studied till now. In particular, prospects for LHC searches for n = 1 states are rather limited, while resonant n = 2 states may go completely undetected. Prospects for detection at the ILC and CLIC are less affected.
We present projections for future collider searches for dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks. Such production channels give rise to final states with missing transverse energy and one or more b-jets. Limits are given assuming an effective scalar operator coupling dark matter to quarks, where the dedicated analysis discussed here improves significantly over a generic monojet analysis. We give updated results for an anticipated high-luminosity LHC run at 14 TeV and for a 33 TeV hadron collider.
We have studied the viability and possible patterns of a strong first-order electroweak phase transition (SFOEWPT) within the $Z_3$-symmetric Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM), in view of the latest experimental results from the dark matter (DM) sector, Higgs sector and the searches of the lighter chargino and neutralinos at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We show that the region of parameter space with relatively small $μ_\mathrm{eff}$ that favors an SFOEWPT has started to get excluded from the searches at the LHC and various DM experiments. However, there still remain ph…
Searches for Beyond the Standard Model Higgs processes in the context of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and Next to MSSM are presented. The results are based on the first LHC run of pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of about 5 and 20 fb$^{-1}$ respectively. Current searches constrain large parts of the parameter space. No evidence for BSM Higgs is found.
An intense, 120 GeV proton beam incident on an extremely long, iron target generates enormous numbers of light-mass particles that also decay within that target. If one of these particles decays to a final state with a hidden gauge boson, or if such a particle is produced as a result of the initial collision, then that weakly interacting, hidden-sector particle may traverse the remainder of the target and be detected downstream through its possible decay to an $e^+e^-$, $μ^+μ^-$, or $π^+π^-$ final state. These conditions can be realized through an extension of the SeaQuest experiment at Fermil…
The search for new physics is a major goal of the LHC physics program. As excitement grows for the upcoming start of Run 2, I review the CMS and ATLAS searches for physics beyond the Standard Model from Run 1 and present recent analyses. These searches have covered a wide range of new physics scenarios including Supersymmetry, new resonances, additional Higgs bosons, new hidden sectors, other Dark Matter, and multi-charged particles. In addition to reviewing some of the techniques that made the analyses possible, I will summarize what we have learned from the results and briefly discuss prospe…
Electroweak Phase Transition in the $Z_3$-invariant NMSSM: Implications of LHC and Dark matter searches and prospects of detecting the gravitational waves
We present here the results for Higgs and Supersymmetry prospective searches at the Large Hadron Collider. We show that for one year at high luminosity, Standard Model and MSSM Higgs should be observed within the theoretically expected mass range. MSUGRA and restricted phenomenological MSSM searches lead to discovery of up to 2.5 TeV squarks and gluinos.
The goal of this report is to summarize the current situation and discuss possible search strategies for charged scalars, in non-supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model at the LHC. Such scalars appear in Multi-Higgs-Doublet models (MHDM), in particular in the popular Two-Higgs-Doublet model (2HDM), allowing for charged and additional neutral Higgs bosons. These models have the attractive property that electroweak precision observables are automatically in agreement with the Standard Model at the tree level. For the most popular version of this framework, Model~II, a discovery of a char…
We investigate the ability of the Short Baseline Neutrino (SBN) experimental program at Fermilab to test the globally-allowed (3+$N$) sterile neutrino oscillation parameter space. We explicitly consider the globally-allowed parameter space for the (3+1), (3+2), and (3+3) sterile neutrino oscillation scenarios. We find that SBN can probe with $5σ$ sensitivity more than 85\%, 95\% and 55\% of the parameter space currently allowed at 99\% confidence level for the (3+1), (3+2) and (3+3) scenarios, respectively. In the case of the (3+2) and (3+3) scenarios, CP-violating phases appear in the oscilla…
The discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC opened up a new possibility to obtain a precise understanding of the origin of mass and the structure of the vacuum. Several theories beyond the Standard Model predict an extended Higgs sector, with additional scalar particles. We outline the complementary search possibilities for these beyond Standard Model Higgs bosons at the LHC and at possible future high-energy collider facilities.
We study the prospects of searches for exotic long-lived particles with the MoEDAL detector at the LHC, assuming the integrated luminosity of 30 fb$^{-1}$ that is expected at the end of Run 3. MoEDAL incorporates nuclear track detectors deployed a few metres away from the interaction point, which are sensitive to any highly-ionizing particles. Hence MoEDAL is able to detect singly- or doubly-charged particles with low velocities $β< 0.15$ or $< 0.3$, respectively, and lifetimes larger than ${\cal O}(1) \,{\rm m}/c$. We examine the MoEDAL sensitivity to various singly-charged supersymmetric par…
We discuss the future prospects of heavy neutrino searches at next generation lepton colliders. In particular, we focus on the planned electron-positron colliders, operating in two different beam modes, namely, $e^+e^-$ and $e^-e^-$. In the $e^+e^-$ beam mode, we consider various production and decay modes of the heavy neutrino ($N$), and find that the final state with $e+2j+{E\!\!\!/}_T$, arising from the $e^+e^-\to Nν$ production mode, is the most promising channel. However, since this mode is insensitive to the Majorana nature of the heavy neutrinos, we also study a new production channel $…
FCC-hh is a proposed future energy-frontier hadron collider, which goal is to provide high luminosity proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 100 TeV. The FCC-hh has an extremely rich physics program ranging from standard model (SM) measurements to direct searches for physics beyond the standard model (BSM). One of the processes sensitive to new physics is flavour-changing neutral currents (FCNC) that extremely rare in the SM but have enhanced behavior in several BSM scenarios. In this report we present results of projections of FCNC searches in top quark interactions to the FCC-hh con…
