It has been suggested that IC4499 is one of the very few old globulars to not host multiple populations with light-element variations. To follow-up on this very interesting result, here we make use of accurate HST photometry and FLAMES@VLT high-resolution spectroscopy to investigate in more detail the stellar population properties of this system. We find that the red giant branch of the cluster is clearly bimodal in near-UV -- optical colour-magnitude diagrams, thus suggesting that IC4499 is actually composed by two sub-populations of stars with different nitrogen abundances. This represents the first detection of multiple populations in IC4499. Consistently, we also find that one star out of six is Na-rich to some extent, while we do not detect any evidence of intrinsic spread in both Mg and O. The number ratio between stars with normal and enriched nitrogen is in good agreement with the number ratio - mass trend observed in Galactic globular clusters. Also, as typically found in other systems, nitrogen rich stars are more centrally concentrated than normal stars, although this result cannot be considered conclusive because of the limited field of view covered by our observations (~$1r_h$). On the contrary, we observe that both the RGB UV color spread, which is a proxy of N variations, and Na abundance variations, are significantly smaller than those observed in Milky Way globular clusters with mass and metallicity comparable to IC4499. The modest N and Na spreads observed in this system can be tentatively connected to the fact that IC4499 likely formed in a disrupted dwarf galaxy orbiting the Milky Way, as previously proposed based on its orbit.

We present revised stellar properties for 172 K2 target stars that were identified as possible hosts of transiting planets during Campaigns 1-17. Using medium-resolution near-infrared spectra acquired with the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility/SpeX and Palomar/TripleSpec, we found that 86 of our targets were bona fide cool dwarfs, 74 were hotter dwarfs, and 12 were giants. Combining our spectroscopic metallicities with Gaia parallaxes and archival photometry, we derived photometric stellar parameters and compared them to our spectroscopic estimates. Although our spectroscopic and photometric ra…
By analyzing photometric and spectroscopic time series in this paper, we show that the pulsator V764 Mon, assumed to be the brightest RR Lyrae star in the sky, is in fact a rapidly rotating delta Scuti star with an unusually long dominant period (P1=0.29 d). Our spectroscopy confirmed the discovery of the Gaia satellite about the binarity of V764 Mon. In the case of HY Com, a `bona fide' RRc star, we present its first complete radial velocity curve. Additionally, we found that the star continues its strong phase variation reported before.
Asteroseismology has become widely accepted as a benchmark for accurate and precise fundamental stellar properties. It can therefore be used to validate and calibrate stellar parameters derived from other approaches. Meanwhile, one can leverage large-volume surveys in photometry, spectroscopy, and astrometry to infer stellar parameters over a wide range of evolutionary stages, independently of asteroseismology. Our pipeline, SEDEX, compares the spectral energy distribution predicted by the MARCS and BOSZ model spectra with 32 photometric bandpasses, combining data from 9 major, large-volume ph…
Miras are fascinating stars. A kappa-mechanism in their atmosphere drives pulsations which produce changes in their photometric brightness, apparent spectral type and effective temperature. These pulsations also drive the formation of Balmer emission lines in the spectrum. This behaviour can be observed and investigated with small telescopes. We report on a three-year project combining spectroscopy and photometry to analyse the behaviour of Mira stars SU Cam and RY Cep, and describe how their brightness, colour, spectral type, effective temperature and Balmer emission vary over four pulsation …
The spectroscopic and photometric analysis of sample Am stars are carried out to determine the stellar characteristics of each studied star. The CCD photometric analysis of HD 98851 and HD 207561 show clear evidence of pulsation variability of 1.55 hr and 5.8 min respectively. Similarly, a clear evidence of the photometric variability is also found for an Am star HD 73045 which is likely to be pulsating in nature with a period of about 36-min. We are also found dissimilar behaviour of elemental abundances of various ions for HD 113878 and HD 118660. The basic stellar parameters (mass, luminosi…
We report on the high-resolution spectroscopic observations of two planetary transits of the hot Jupiter KELT-7b ($M_{\rm p}$ $=$ 1.28 $\pm$ 0.17 M$_{\rm Jup}$, $T_{\rm eq}$ $=$ 2028 K) observed with the High Optical Resolution Spectrograph (HORuS) mounted on the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). A new set of stellar parameters are obtained for the rapidly rotating parent star from the analysis of the spectra. Using the newly derived stellar mass and radius, and the planetary transit data of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) together with the HORuS velocities and the photom…
We present results from long-term optical photometric and spectroscopic observations of 5 pre-main sequence stars, located in the vicinity of the bight nebula NGC 7129. We obtained UBVRI photometric observations in the field centered on the star V391 Cep, north-west of the bright nebula NGC 7129. Our multicolor CCD observations spanned the period from February 1998 to November 2016. At the time of our photometric monitoring, a total of thirteen medium-resolution optical spectra of the stars were obtained. The results from our photometric study show that all stars exhibit strong variability in …
V471 Tau is a post-common-envelope binary consisting of an eclipsing DA white dwarf and a K-type main-sequence star in the Hyades star cluster. We analyzed publicly available photometry and spectroscopy of V471 Tau to revise the stellar and orbital parameters of the system. We used archival K2 photometry, archival Hubble Space Telescope spectroscopy, and published radial-velocity measurements of the K-type star. Employing Gaussian processes to fit for rotational modulation of the system flux by the main-sequence star, we recovered the transits of the white dwarf in front of the main-sequence s…
Subdwarf A star (sdA) is a spectral classification given to objects showing H-rich spectra and sub-main sequence surface gravities, but effective temperature lower than the zero-age horizontal branch. Their evolutionary origin is an enigma. In this work, we discuss the results of follow-up observations of selected sdAs. We obtained time resolved spectroscopy for 24 objects, and time-series photometry for another 19 objects. For two targets, we report both spectroscopy and photometry observations. We confirm seven objects to be new extremely-low mass white dwarfs (ELMs), one of which is a known…
The prototype star for the γ Doradus class of pulsating variables was studied em- ploying photometric and spectroscopic observations to determine the frequencies and modes of pulsation. The four frequencies found were self-consistent between the obser- vation types and almost identical to those found in previous studies (1.3641 d-1 ,1.8783 d-1 , 1.4742 d-1 and 1.3209 d-1). Three of the frequencies are classified as l, m = (1, 1) pulsations and the other is ambiguous between l = 2 modes. Two frequencies are shown to be stable over twenty years since their first identification. The agreement in …
We present a detailed spectroscopic and photometric analysis of DA and DB white dwarfs drawn from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey with trigonometric parallax measurements available from the Gaia mission. The temperature and mass scales obtained from fits to $ugriz$ photometry appear reasonable for both DA and DB stars, with almost identical mean masses of $\langle M \rangle = 0.617~M_\odot$ and $0.620~M_\odot$, respectively. The comparison with similar results obtained from spectroscopy reveals several problems with our model spectra for both pure hydrogen and pure helium compositions. In particu…
Thanks to its long and rich observational history and rapid apsidal motion, the massive eclipsing binary Y Cyg represents one of the cornestones to critical tests of stellar evolution theory for massive stars. Yet, the determination of the basic physical properties is less accurate than it could be given the existing number of spectral and photometric observations. Our goal is to analyze all these data simultaneously with the new dedicated series of our own spectral and photometric observations from observatories widely separated in longitude. We obtained new series of UBV observations at thre…
The photometric analysis of sample Am stars is carried out to determine the stellar characteristics and to constrain the stellar dynamics. The spectroscopic analysis of the studied Am stars confirms their general characteristics of Am stars. The available data on elemental abundances for HD 113878 and HD 118660 have shown different characteristics during different epochs of observations. The basic stellar parameters (mass, luminosity, radius, life time, distance, proper-motion, etc.) are also determined to identify the stellar habitat zones for earth like exoplanet. Such information is importa…
We conducted photometric and spectroscopic observations for Ross 15 in order to further study the flare properties of this less observed flare star. A total of 28 B-band flares are detected in 128 hours of photometric observations, leading to a total flare rate of 0.22(+-0.04) hour^-1, more accurate than that provided by previous work. We give the energy range of the B-band flare (10^29.5 - 10^31.5 erg) and the FFD for the star. Within the same energy range, the FFD are lower than that of GJ 1243 (M4) and YZ CMi (M4.5), roughly in the middle of those of three M5-type stars and higher than the …

We perform a new analysis of the M dwarf-M dwarf eclipsing binary system NSVS 07394765 in order to investigate the reported hyper-inflated radius of one of the component stars. Our analysis is based on archival photometry from the Wide Angle Search for Planets (WASP), new photometry from the 32 cm {Command Module Observatory (CMO) telescope in Arizona and the 70 cm telescope at Thacher Observatory in California}, and new high-resolution infrared spectra obtained with the Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph (IGRINS) on the Discovery Channel Telescope. The masses and radii we measure for eac…
We use data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) to search for, and set limits on, optical to near-infrared photometric variability of the well-vetted, candidate James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) spectrophotometric standards. Our search of 37 of these candidate standards has revealed measurable periodic variability in 15 stars. The majority of those show variability that is less than half a percent; however, four stars are observed to vary photometrically, from minimum to maximum flux, by more than 1% (the G dwarf HD 38949 and three fainter A dwarfs). Variability of this size …
We describe the preliminary results of a ground-based observing campaign aimed at building a grid of approximately 200 spectro-photometric standard stars (SPSS), with an internal $\simeq 1$\% accuracy (and sub-percent precision), tied to CALSPEC Vega and Sirius systems within $\simeq 1$\%, for the absolute flux calibration of data gathered by {\it Gaia}, the European Space Agency (ESA) astrometric mission. The criteria for the selection and a list of candidates are presented, together with a description of the survey's strategy and the adopted data analysis methods. All candidates were also mo…
Extremely large telescopes (ELTs) provide an opportunity to observe surface inhomogeneities for ultracool objects including M dwarfs, brown dwarfs (BDs), and gas giant planets via Doppler imaging and spectro-photometry techniques. These inhomogeneities can be caused by star spots, clouds, and vortices. Star spots and associated stellar flares play a significant role in habitability, either stifling life or catalyzing abiogenesis depending on the emission frequency, magnitude, and orientation. Clouds and vortices may be the source of spectral and photometric variability observed at the L/T tran…
