A systematic study of the electronic properties of single layer Sb (antimonene) nanoribbons is presented. By using a 6-orbital tight-binding Hamiltonian, we study the electronic band structure of finite ribbons with zigzag or armchair termination. We show that there is good agreement between ab initio calculations and the tight-binding model. We study how the size of the gap can be controlled by applying an external bias potential. An electric field applied perpendicular to the antimonene layer is found to increase the band gap, while a transverse bias potential leads to a position dependent reduction of the band gap. Both kinds of bias potential break inversion symmetry of the crystal. This, together with the strong intrinsic spin-orbit coupling of antimonene, leads to spin-splitting of the valence band states.
The electronic properties of antimonene, single-layer Sb, are attracting great attention. In this paper, spin transport in armchair antimonene nanoribbon (ASbNR) is investigated. Following the tight-binding model, we calculate both the transmission probability and the conductance by means of the non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) method. The effects of an external electric field vertical to the ribbon plane are explored. Our results indicate that the spin-flip rate increases with the vertical electric field. Disorder effects on spin transport are addressed by considering the presence of c…
Recently a stable monolayer of antimony in buckled honeycomb structure called antimonene was successfully grown on 3D topological insulator Bi$_2$Te$_3$ and Sb$_2$Te$_3$, which displays semiconducting properties. By first principle calculations, we systematically investigate the phononic, electronic and optical properties of $α-$ and $β-$ allotropes of monolayer arsenene/antimonene. We investigate the dynamical stabilities of these four materials by considering the phonon dispersions. The obtained electronic structures reveal the direct band gap of monolayer $α-$As/Sb and indirect band gap of …
The interfacial charge transfer from the substrate may influence the electronic structure of the epitaxial van der Waals (vdW) monolayers and thus their further technological applications. For instance, the freestanding Sb monolayer in puckered honeycomb phase (α-antimonene), the structural analog of black phosphorene, was predicted to be a semiconductor, but the epitaxial one behaves as a gapless semimetal when grown on the Td-WTe2 substrate. Here, we demonstrate that interface engineering can be applied to tune the interfacial charge transfer and thus the electron band of epitaxial monolayer…
The effects of spin-orbit (SOC) and electron-phonon coupling on the collective excitation of doped monolayer Sb$_2$ are investigated using density functional and many-body perturbation theories. The spin-orbit coupling is exclusively important for the monolayer Sb$_2$ and it leads to the reconstruction of the electronic band structure. In particular, plasmon modes of monolayer Sb$_2$ are quite sensitive to the SOC and are characterized by very low damping rates owing to small electron-phonon scatterings. Our results show plasmons in antimonene are significantly less damped compared to monolaye…
In this paper, the structural, electronic, mechanical and optical properties of antimonene-bismuthene Van-der Waals heterostructure (Sb-Bi HS) were calculated based on the first principle density functional theory. We explored different stacks of Sb-Bi HS to find the most and the least stable staking for this heterostructure. At the GGA level of theory, the most stable model is a semiconductor with an indirect band gap of 159 meV. However, when the spin-orbit (SO) interaction is considered, the VBM and CBM touch the Fermi level and the HS becomes a semimetal. Our results also show that the ele…
Two-dimensional materials exhibit a variety of mechanical instabilities accompanied by spontaneous symmetry breaking. Here we develop a continuum description of the buckling instability of antimonene sheets. Regions of oppositely directed buckling constitute domains separated by domain walls that are solitons in our model. Perturbations about equilibrium propagate as waves with a gapped dispersion in the bulk but there is a gapless mode with linear dispersion that propagates along the domain walls in a manner reminiscent of the electronic modes of topological insulators. We establish that mono…
Single layers of transition metal dichalcogenides such as MoS$_2$ are direct bandgap semiconductors with optical and electronic properties distinct from multilayers due to strong vertical confinement. Despite the fundamental monolayer limit of thickness, the electronic structure of isolated layers can be further tailored with lateral degrees of freedom in nanostructures such as quantum dots or nanoribbons. Although one-dimensionally confined monolayer semiconductors are predicted to have interesting size- and edge-dependent properties useful for spintronics applications, experiments on the opt…
The electronic band topology of monolayer $β$-Sb (antimonene) is studied from the flat honeycomb to the equilibrium buckled structure using first-principles calculations and analyzed using a tight-binding model and low energy Hamiltonians. In flat monolayer Sb, the Fermi level occurs near the intersection of two warped Dirac cones, one associated with the $p_z$-orbitals, and one with the $\{p_x,p_y\}$-orbitals. The differently oriented threefold warping of these two cones leads to an unusually shaped nodal line, which leads to anisotropic in-plane transport properties and goniopolarity. A slig…
On the basis of tight-binding lattice model, the edge states of monolayer and bilayer graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with different edge terminations are studied. The effects of edge-hopping modulation, spin-orbital coupling (SOC), and bias voltage on bilayer GNRs are discussed. We observe the following: (i) Some new extra edge states can be created by edge-hopping modulation for monolayer GNRs. (ii) Intralayer Rashba SOC plays a role in depressing the band energy gap $E_g$ opened by intrinsic SOC for both monolayer and bilayer GNRs. An almost linear dependent relation, i.e., $E_g\sim λ_R$, is fo…
The strategy of band convergence of multi-valley conduction bands or multi-peak valence bands has been widely used to search or improve thermoelectric materials. However, the phonon-assisted intervalley scatterings due to multiple band degeneracy are usually neglected in the thermoelectric community. In this work, we investigate the (thermo)electric properties of non-polar monolayer $β$- and $α$-antimonene considering full mode- and momentum-resolved electron-phonon interactions. We also analyze thoroughly the selection rules on electron-phonon matrix-elements using group-theory arguments. Our…
The Kekule pattern of the (anti)ferromagnetic exchange field on monolayer MoS2 can be induced by proximity to the (111) surface of BiFeO3 on both sides. The three-band tight binding model of the MoS2 layer with Kekule patterned exchange field is applied to describe the heterostructures. The tight binding model is justified by the first principle calculations. The magnetization orientations of the substrates control the pattern of the exchange field, which then switches the band structures of the lowest zigzag edge states between being metallic and insulating. The lowest four zigzag edge bands …
We investigate the electronic transport properties of a folded graphene nanoribbon with monolayer nanoribbon contacts. We consider two possible foldings: either the nanoribbon can be folded onto itself in the shape of a hairpin with the nanoribbon leads at a $0^\circ$ angle, or the monolayer contacts have different directions, forming a $60^\circ$ angle. The system is described by a single $π$-band nearest-neighbor tight-binding Hamiltonian taking into account curvature effects. We have found that for the case of a nanoribbon folded over itself the conductance oscillates from almost zero and a…
We study the transport properties of a twisted bilayer graphene flake contacted by two monolayer nanoribbons which act as leads. We analyze the conductance in terms of the spectra of the bilayer nanoribbon and the monolayer contacts. The low-energy transport properties are governed by the edge states with AB stacking. Remarkably, the electronic conductance in this energy region does not depend much on the relative position of the leads, in contrast with that of bilayer flakes with more symmetric stackings. We attribute this feature to the localization of these low-energy states in the AB edge …
Today, 2D semiconductor materials have been extended into the nitrogen group: phosphorene, arsenene, antimonene and even nitrogene. Motivated by them, based upon first-principles density functional calculations, we propose a new two-dimensional phosphorus nitride (PN) structure that is stable well above the room temperature, due to its extremely high cohesive energy. Unlike phosphorene, PN structure is resistant to high temperature oxidation. The structure is predicted to be a semiconductor with a wide, indirect band gap of 2.64 eV. More interestingly, the phosphorus nitride monolayer experien…
In this work, we have designed and simulated new thermoelectric generator based on monolayer and few-layer MoS2 nanoribbons. The proposed thermoelectric generator is composed of thermocouples made of both n-type and p-type MoS2 nanoribbon legs. Density Functional Tight-Binding Non-Equilibrium Green's Function (DFTB-NEGF) method has been used to calculate the transmission spectrum of MoS2 armchair and zigzag nanoribbons. Phonon transmission spectrum are calculated based on parameterization of Stillinger-Weber potential. Thermoelectric figure of merit, ZT, is calculated using these electronic an…
In this chapter, semi-analytical models for the calculation of the quantum capacitance of both monolayer and bilayer graphene and its nanoribbons, are presented. Since electron-hole puddles are experimental facts in all graphene samples, they have been incorporated in our calculations. The temperature dependence of the quantum capacitance around the charge neutrality point is also investigated and the obtained results are in agreement with many features recently observed in quantum capacitance measurements on both monolayer and bilayer graphene devices. Furtheremore, the impact of finite-size …
We analytically study the electronic structures and optical properties of zigzag-edged black phosphorene nanoribbons (ZPNRs) utilizing the tight-binding (TB) Hamiltonian and Kubo formula. By solving the discrete Schordinger equation directly, we obtain the energy spectra and wavefunctions for a $N$-ZPNR with $N$ number of transverse zigzag atomic chains, and classify the eigenstates according to the lattice symmetry. We then obtain the optical transition selection rule of ZPNRs based on the symmetry analysis and the analytical expressions of the optical transition matrix elements. Under an inc…
The magneto-optical response of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), including excitonic effects, is studied using a nanoribbon geometry. We compute the diagonal optical conductivity and the Hall conductivity. Comparing the excitonic optical Hall conductivity to results obtained in the independent particle approximation, we find an increase in the amplitude corresponding to one order of magnitude when excitonic effects are included. The Hall conductivities are used to calculate Faraday rotation spectra for MoS2 and WSe2. Finally, we have also calculated the diamagnetic shift of t…
We investigate electronic transport property of a graphene monolayer covered by a graphene nanoribbon. We demonstrate that electronic transmission of a monolayer can be reduced when covered by a nanoribbon. The transmission reduction occurs at different energies determined by the width of nanoribbon. We explain the transmission reduction by using interference between wavefunctions in the monolayer and the nanoribbon. Furthermore, we show the transmission reduction of a monolayer is combinable when covered by more than one nanoribbon and propose a concept of "combination of control" for nano-ap…
In this work, the strain modulation of electronic structure and magnetic interaction in monolayer nanoribbons of B$_2$S, a recently realized monolayer system, is investigated. In the first part of our study, we focus on how the electronic structure of monolayer nanoribbons of B$_2$S is modified under uniaxial strains, then employing a tight-binding framework together with the conventional theory of elasticity, we discuss how strain-induced local deformations can be used as a means to affect Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interaction in zigzag nanoribbons of B$_2$S. We show that breaking …
We investigate the energy dispersion of the edge states in zigzag silicene, germanene and stanene nanoribbons with and without hydrogen termination based on a multi-orbital tight-binding model. Since the low buckled structures are crucial for these materials, both the $π$ and $σ$ orbitals have a strong influence on the edge states, different from the case for graphene nanoribbons. The obtained dispersion of helical edge states is nonlinear, similar to that obtained by first-principles calculations. On the other hand, the dispersion derived from the single-orbital tight-binding model is always …
The electronic structure of monolayer MoS$_2$ nanoribbons and quantum dots have been investigated by means of an effective $\mathbf{k}\cdot \mathbf{p}$ two-band model. Both systems with borders exhibit states spatially localized on the edges and with energies lying in the band gap. We show that the conduction and valence band curvatures determine the presence/absence of these states whose origin has been related to the marginal topological properties of the MoS$_2$ single-valley Hamiltonian.
Zigzag nanoribbons of monolayer graphene-like two-dimensional materials host spontaneous edge magnetism at the zigzag terminations, whose configuration controls the band gap. In this article, the edge magnetism of zigzag nanoribbons of bilayer hexagonal crystals are studied. The specific models of bilayer graphene and bilayer silicene are both studied. As the gated voltage increases, the total energy level, magnetic structure and band structures of the ground state and the first quasi-stable excited state are tuned. For certain region of the gated voltage, the band gaps of spin up and down are…
In investigating the topological electronic structures of monolayer $α$-phase group V elements, we uncover a new topological phase, which is invisible in the symmetry-based topological quantum chemistry (TQC) as well as symmetry indicators (SIs). Since $α$ phase As and Sb share the same band representations at high-symmetry points, they are both trivial insulators in terms of TQC and SIs. We demonstrate, however, that there is a topological phase transition between As and Sb that involves a band-gap closing at two $k$-points on the high-symmetry $\rm{X}$-$\rmΓ$-$\rm{X}$ line. In the absence of…

The electronic transport properties of Janus monolayer black arsenic phosphorus (b-AsP) nanoribbons have been investigated utilizing the tight-binding approach. The dependence of electronic structure on edge structures is systematically investigated. (1,3)nb and (3,1)nb b-AsP nanoribbons exhibit flatter edge bands than zigzag and armchair counterparts. The edge band of the armchair ones show double degeneracy. Further, the calculated results show the band gap of the zigzag ribbon with different boundary morphology is widely tunable by transverse electric field. A critical electric field can fu…
The light-like dispersion of graphene monolayer results in many novel electronic properties in it1, however, this gapless feature also limits the applications of graphene monolayer in digital electronics2. A rare working solution to generate a moderate bandgap in graphene monolayer is to cut it into one-dimensional (1D) nanometre-wide ribbons3-13. Here we show that a wide bandgap can be created in a unique 1D strained structure, i.e., graphene-nanoribbon-like (GNR-like) structure, of a continuous graphene sheet via strong interaction between graphene and the metal substrate, instead of cutting…
We study the electronic structure and transport properties of zigzag and armchair monolayer molybdenum disulfide nanoribbons using an 11-band tight-binding model that accurately reproduces the material's bulk band structure near the band gap. We study the electronic properties of pristine zigzag and armchair nanoribbons, paying particular attention to the edges states that appear within the MoS$_2$ bulk gap. By analyzing both their orbital composition and their local density of states, we find that in zigzag-terminated nanoribbons these states can be localized at a single edge for certain ener…
A WSe2 monolayer of 1T' phase is a large band gap quantum spin Hall insulator, supporting dissipationless charge and spin transports through the topologically protected edge states. In this work, we explore the nanoribbon forms of 1T' phase WSe2 by first-principles density functional calculations and the many-body perturbation GW and Bethe-Salpeter equation method. We found that the 1T' WSe2 nanoribbon can show topological edge states with a ribbon width of ~4-6 nm. Those edge bands show crossing through the Fermi level an odd number of times, with one kind of spin-polarization connecting the …
In this study, we analyze the band structure, the state characterization, and electronic transport of monolayer black phosphorus (phosphorene) zigzag nanoribbons (zPNRs) and armchair nanoribbons (aPNRs), using five-parameter tight-binding (TB) approximation. In zPNRs, the ratio of the two dominant hopping parameters indicates the possibility of a relativistic dispersion relation and the existence of a pair of separate quasi-flat bands at the Fermi level. Moreover, the corresponding states are edge localized if their bands are well separated from the valence and conduction bands. We also invest…
By combining density functional theory and nonequilibrium Green's function, we study the electronic and transport properties of monolayer black phosphorus nanoribbons (PNRs). First, we investigate the band-gap of PNRs and its modulation by the ribbon width and an external transverse electric feld. Our calculations indicate a giant Stark effect in PNRs, which can switch on transport channels of semiconducting PNRs under low bias, inducing an insulator-metal-transition. Next, we study the transport channels in PNRs via the calculations of the current density and local electron transmission pathw…
Coherent spin-dependent transport through a junction containing of Normal/Ferromagnetic/Normal bilayer graphene nanoribbon with zigzag edges is investigated by using Landauer formalism. In a more realistic set-up, the exchange field is induced by two ferromagnetic insulator strips deposited on the ribbon edges while a perpendicular electric field is applied by the top gated electrodes. Our results show that, for antiparallel configuration, a band gap is opened giving rise a semiconducting behavior, while for parallel configuration, the band structure has no band gap. As a result, a giant magne…
We explore the electronic structure, orbital character and topological aspect of a monolayer MoS$_2$ nanoribbon using tight-binding (TB) and low-energy (${\bm k}\cdot{\bm p} $) models. We obtain a mid-gap edge mode in the zigzag ribbon of monolayer MoS$_2$, which can be traced back to the topological properties of the bulk band structure. Monolayer MoS$_2$ can be considered as a valley Hall insulator. The boundary conditions at armchair edges mix the valleys on the edges, and a gap is induced in the edge modes. The spin-orbit coupling in the valence band reduces the hybridization of the bulk s…
We predict enhanced electron-hole superfluidity in two coupled electron-hole armchair-edge terminated graphene nanoribbons separated by a thin insulating barrier. In contrast to graphene monolayers, the multiple subbands of the nanoribbons are parabolic at low energy with a gap between the conduction and valence bands, and with lifted valley degeneracy. These properties make screening of the electron-hole interaction much weaker than for coupled electron-hole monolayers, thus boosting the pairing strength and enhancing the superfluid properties. The pairing strength is further boosted by the q…
Band gap control by an external field is useful in various optical, infrared and THz applications. However, widely tunable band gaps are still not practical due to variety of reasons. Using the orthogonal tight-binding method for $π$-electrons, we have investigated the effect of the external electric field on a subclass of monolayer chevron-type graphene nanoribbons that can be referred to as jagged graphene nanoribbons. A classification of such ribbons was proposed and band gaps for applied fields up to the SiO$_2$ breakdown strength ($1$ V/nm) were calculated. According to the tight-binding …
In their recent submission arXiv:1206.3435v1 Zhou and Wu addressed the charge and spin pumping in an armchair graphene nanoribbon connected to magnetic and/or nonmagnetic leads at zero bias. They used thereby a pumping current formula based on time-reversal symmetry. In their appendix they made, based on their formulas, a number of claims concerning our recent works [K. -H. Ding, Z. -G. Zhu, and J. Berakdar, Phys. Rev. B 84, 115433 (2011)] on the laser modification of the spin-dependent current in an extended graphene monolayer contacted to two magnetic leads under a finite bias. Below we show…
We study perfect valley polarization in a molybdenum disulfide MoS2 nanoribbon monolayer using two bands Hamiltonian model and non-equilibrium Green's function method. The device consists of a one-dimensional quantum wire of MoS2 monolayer sandwiched between two zigzag MoS2 nanoribbons such that the sites A and B of the honeycomb lattice are constructed by the molecular orbital of Mo atoms, only. Spin-valley coupling is seen in energy dispersion curve due to the inversion asymmetry and time-reversal symmetry. Although, the time reversal symmetry is broken by applying an external magnetic field…
A review work is done for electronic and optical properties of graphene nanoribbons in magnetic, electric, composite, and modulated fields. Effects due to the lateral confinement, curvature, stacking, non-uniform subsystems and hybrid structures are taken into account. The special electronic properties, induced by complex competitions between external fields and geometric structures, include many one-dimensional parabolic subbands, standing waves, peculiar edge-localized states, width- and field-dependent energy gaps, magnetic-quantized quasi-Landau levels, curvature-induced oscillating Landau…
Recently, monolayer CoSb/SrTiO$_3$ has been proposed as a candidate harboring interfacial superconductivity in analogy with monolayer FeSe/SrTiO$_3$. Experimentally, while the CoSb-based compounds manifesting as nanowires and thin films have been realized on SrTiO$_3$ substrates, serving as a rich playground, their electronic structures are still unknown and yet to be resolved. Here, we have fabricated CoSb$_{1-x}$ nanoribbons with quasi-one-dimensional stripes on SrTiO$_3$(001) substrates using molecular beam epitaxy, and investigated the electronic structure by in situ angle-resolved photoem…
We study the conductance of a biased bilayer graphene flake with monolayer nanoribbon contacts. We find that the transmission through the bilayer ribbon strongly depends on the applied bias between the two layers and on the relative position of the monolayer contacts. Besides the opening of an energy gap on the bilayer, the bias allows to tune the electronic density on the bilayer flake, making possible the control of the electronic transmission by an external parameter.
A theoretical study of the magnetoelectronic properties of zigzag and armchair bilayer graphene nanoribbons (BGNs) is presented. Using the recursive Green's function method, we study the band structure of BGNs in uniform perpendicular magnetic fields and discuss the zero-temperature conductance for the corresponding clean systems. The conductance quantized as 2(n+1)G_ for the zigzag edges and nG_0 for the armchair edges with G_{0}=2e^2/h being the conductance unit and $n$ an integer. Special attention is paid to the effects of edge disorder. As in the case of monolayer graphene nanoribbons (GN…
Based on atomistic simulations, the nonlinear elastic properties of monolayer graphene nanoribbons under quasistatic uniaxial tension are predicted, emphasizing the effect of edge structures (armchair and zigzag, without and with hydrogen passivation). The results of atomistic simulations are interpreted within a theoretical framework of thermodynamics, which enables determination of the nonlinear functions for the strain-dependent edge energy and the hydrogen adsorption energy, for both zigzag and armchair edges. Due to the edge effects, the initial Young's modulus of graphene nanoribbons und…
Recently, two-dimensional nanostructures consisting of alternating graphene and boron nitride (BN) domains have been synthesized. These systems possess interesting electronic and mechanical properties, with potential applications in electronics and optical devices. Here, we perform a first-principles investigation of models of BN-C hybrid monolayers and nanoribbons deposited on the Cu(111) surface, a substrate used for their growth in said experiments. For the sake of comparison, we also consider BN and BC2N nanostructures. We show that BN and BC2N monolayers bind weakly to Cu(111), whereas mo…
Monolayer B$_2$S has been recently unveiled as a desirable honeycomb monolayer with an anisotropic Dirac cone. We investigate the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yoshida (RKKY) interaction, between two magnetic impurity moments in armchair-terminated B$_2$S nanoribbons in the presence of strain and staggered sublattice potential. By using an accurate tight-binding model, we firstly study the electronic properties of all infinite-length armchair B$_2$S nanoribbons (ABSNRs), with different edges, in the presence of both strain and staggered potential. The ABSNRs show different electronic and magnetic beh…
The thermoelectric figures of merit of pristine two-dimensional materials are predicted to be significantly less than unity, making them uncompetitive as thermoelectric materials. Here we elucidate a new strategy that overcomes this limitation by creating multi-layer nanoribbons of two different materials and allowing thermal and electrical currents to flow perpendicular to their planes. To demonstrate this enhancement of thermoelectric efficiency ZT, we analyse the thermoelectric performance of monolayer molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) sandwiched between two graphene monolayers and demonstrate t…
We investigate the electronic transport properties of a bilayer graphene flake contacted by two monolayer nanoribbons. Such a finite-size bilayer flake can be built by overlapping two semiinfinite ribbons or by depositing a monolayer flake onto an infinite nanoribbon. These two structures have a complementary behavior, that we study and analyze by means of a tight-binding method and a continuum Dirac model. We have found that for certain energy ranges and geometries, the conductance of these systems oscillates markedly between zero and the maximum value of the conductance, allowing for the des…
Change of the bonding environment at the free edges of graphene monolayer leads to excess edge energy and edge force, depending on the edge morphology (zigzag or armchair). By using a reactive empirical bond-order potential and atomistic simulations, we show that the excess edge energy in free-standing graphene nanoribbons can be partially relaxed by both in-plane and out-of-plane deformation. The excess edge energy and edge force are calculated for graphene nanoribbons with parallel zigzag or armchair edges. Depending on the longitudinal constraint, the compressive edge force leads to either …
Electronic properties of bilayer graphene are distinct from both the conventional two dimensional electron gas and monolayer graphene due to its particular chiral properties and excitation charge carrier dispersions. We study the effect of strain on the electronic structure, the edge-states and charge transport of bilayer graphene nanoribbon at zero-temperature. We demonstrate a valley polarized quantum Hall effect in biased bilayer graphene when the system is subjected to a perpendicular magnetic field. In this system a topological phase transition from a quantum valley Hall to a valley polar…
We report the electronic structure and optical absorption spectra of monolayer black phosphorus (phosphorene) nanoribbons (PNRs) via first-principles simulations. The band gap of PNRs is strongly enhanced by quantum confinement. However, differently orientated PNRs exhibit distinct scaling laws for the band gap vs the ribbon width (w). The band gaps of armchair PNRs scale as 1/(w^2), while zigzag PNRs exhibit a 1/w behavior. These distinct scaling laws reflect a significant implication of the band dispersion of phosphorene: electrons and holes behave as classical particles along the zigzag dir…
We combine {\em ab initio} density functional theory (DFT) structural studies with DFT-based nonequilibrium Green function calculations to investigate how the presence of non-hexagonal rings affects electronic transport in graphitic structures. We find that infinite monolayers, finite-width nanoribbons and nanotubes formed of 5-8 haeckelite with only 5- and 8-membered rings are generally more conductive than their graphene-based counterparts. Presence of haeckelite defect lines in the perfect graphitic structure, a model of grain boundaries in CVD-grown graphene, increases the electronic condu…
