It is well known that the structure of nontrival invariant subspaces for the shift operator on the Bergman space is extremely complicated and very little is known about their specific structures, and that a complete description of the structure seems unlikely. In this paper, we find that any invariant subspace $M(\neq \{0\})$ for the shift operator $M_z$ on the Bergman space $A^{^p}_α(\D)~(1\leq p< \infty,~~-1<α<\infty)$ contains a nonempty subset that lies in $A^{^p}_α(\D)\backslash H^{^p}(\D)$. To a certain extent, this result describes the specific structure of every nonzero invariant subspace for the shift operator $M_z$ on $A^{^p}_α(\D)$.
Doubly commutativity of invariant subspaces of the Bergman space and the Dirichlet space over the unit polydisc $\mathbb{D}^n$ (with $ n \geq 2$) is investigated. We show that for any non-empty subset $α=\{α_1,\dots,α_k\}$ of $\{1,\dots,n\}$ and doubly commuting invariant subspace $\s$ of the Bergman space or the Dirichlet space over $\D^n$, the tuple consists of restrictions of co-ordinate multiplication operators $M_α|_\s:=(M_{z_{α_1}}|_\s,\dots, M_{z_{α_k}}|_\s)$ always possesses wandering subspace of the form \[\bigcap_{i=1}^k(\s\ominus z_{α_i}\s). \]
In a wide class of weighted Bergman spaces, we construct invertible non-cyclic elements. These are then used to produce z-invariant subspaces of index higher than one. In addition, these elements generate nontrivial bilaterally invariant subspaces in anti-symmetrically weighted Hilbert spaces of sequences.
This paper is concerned with polynomially generated multiplier invariant subspaces of the weighted Bergman space $A_{\boldsymbolβ}^2$ in infinitely many variables. We completely classify these invariant subspaces under the unitary equivalence. Our results not only cover cases of both the Hardy space $H^{2}(\mathbb{D}_{2}^{\infty})$ and the Bergman space $A^{2}(\mathbb{D}_{2}^{\infty})$ in infinitely many variables, but also apply in finite-variable setting.
Let $\mathcal{W}$ be the corresponding wandering subspace of an invariant subspace of the Bergman shift. By identifying the Bergman space with $H^2(\mathbb{D}^2)\ominus[z-w]$, a sufficient and necessary conditions of a closed subspace of $H^2(\mathbb{D}^2)\ominus[z-w]$ to be a wandering subspace of an invariant subspace is given also, and a functional charaterization and a coefficient characterization for a function in a wandering subspace are given. As a byproduct, we proved that for two invariant subspaces $\mathcal{M}$, $\mathcal{N}$ with $\mathcal{M}\supsetneq\mathcal{N}$ and $dim(\mathcal…
We provide a characterization of the commutant of analytic Toeplitz operators $T_B$ induced by finite Blachke products $B$ acting on weighted Bergman spaces which, as a particular instance, yields the case $B(z)=z^n$ on the Bergman space solved recently by by Abkar, Cao and Zhu. Moreover, it extends previous results by Cowen and Wahl in this context and applies to other Banach spaces of analytic functions such as Hardy spaces $H^p$ for $1<p<\infty$. Finally, we apply this approach to study the reducing subspaces of $T_{B}$ in weighted Bergman spaces.
We answer affirmatively the problem left open in \cite{DSZ,GSZZ} and prove that for a finite Blaschke product $ϕ$, the minimal reducing subspaces of the Bergman space multiplier $M_ϕ$ are pairwise orthogonal and their number is equal to the number $q$ of connected components of the Riemann surface of $ϕ^{-1}\circ ϕ$. In particular, the double commutant $\{M_ϕ,M_ϕ^\ast\}'$ is abelian of dimension $q$. An analytic/arithmetic description of the minimal reducing subspaces of $M_ϕ$ is also provided, along with a list of all possible cases in degree of $ϕ$ equal to eight.
A natural class of weighted Bergman spaces on the symmetrized polydisc is isometrically embedded as a subspace in the corresponding weighted Bergman space on the polydisc. We find an orthonormal basis for this subspace. It enables us to compute the kernel function for the weighted Bergman spaces on the symmetrized polydisc using the explicit nature of our embedding. This family of kernel functions include the Szegö and the Bergman kernel on the symmetrized polydisc.
Following upon results of Putinar, Sun, Wang, Zheng and the first author, we provide models for the restrictions of the multiplication by a finite Balschke product on the Bergman space in the unit disc to its reducing subspaces. The models involve a generalization of the notion of bundle shift on the Hardy space introduced by Abrahamse and the first author to the Bergman space. We develop generalized bundle shifts on more general domains. While the characterization of the bundle shift is rather explicit, we have not been able to obtain all the earlier results appeared, in particular, the facts…
In this paper, we use a new method to solve a long-standing problem. More specifically, we show that the Beurling-type theorem holds in the Bergman space $A^2_α(D)$ for any $-1<α< +\infty$. That is, every invariant subspace $H$ for the shift operator $S$ on $A^2_α(D)$ $(-1<α< +\infty)$ has the property $H=[H\ominus zH]_{S,A^2_α\left(D\right)}$.
Suppose that $f := (f_1,\ldots,f_d):Ω_1\toΩ_2$ is a proper holomorphic map between two bounded domains in $\mathbb C^d.$ In this paper, we find a non-trivial minimal joint reducing subspace for the multiplication operator (tuple) $M_f=(M_{f_1},\ldots, M_{f_d})$ on the Bergman space $\mathbb A^2(Ω_1)$, say $\mathcal M.$ We further show that the restriction of $(M_{f_1},\ldots,M_{f_d})$ to $\mathcal M$ is unitarily equivalent to Bergman operator on $\mathbb A^2(Ω_2).$
It is known that (i) a subspace ${\mathcal N}$ of the Hardy space $H^2$ which is invariant under the backward shift operator can be represented as the range of the observability operator of a conservative discrete-time linear system, (ii) the transfer-function of this conservative linear system in turn is the inner Beurling-Lax representer for the forward-shift invariant subspace ${\mathcal M} : = {\mathcal N}^\perp$, and (iii) this transfer function also serves as the Sz.-Nagy-Foias characteristic function of the pure contraction operator $T$ given by $T = P_{\mathcal N} M_z |_{\mathcal N}$. …
Let $H_m(\mathbb B)$ be the analytic functional Hilbert space on the unit ball $\mathbb B \subset \mathbb C^n$ with reproducing kernel $K_m(z,w) = (1 - \langle z,w \rangle)^{-m}$. Using algebraic operator identities we characterize those commuting row contractions $T \in L(H)^n$ on a Hilbert space $H$ that decompose into the direct sum of a spherical coisometry and copies of the multiplication tuple $M_z \in L(H_m(\mathbb B))^n$. For $m=1$, this leads to a Wold decomposition for partially isometric commuting row contractions that are regular at $z = 0$. For $m = 1 = n$, the results reduce to t…
The results in the paper are related to the classification problem for invariant subspaces of multiplication operators in several variables. The main results consist of characterizations, in the two dimensional case, of ideals of polynomials and analytic functions which are closed in the relative topology induced by Bergman spaces on certain domains. This provides proofs of the Bergman space analogues of a conjecture of R. G. Douglas and V. Paulsen.
In this paper, using the group-like property of local inverses of a finite Blaschke product $ϕ$, we will show that the largest $C^*$-algebra in the commutant of the multiplication operator $M_ϕ$ by $ϕ$ on the Bergman space is finite dimensional, and its dimension equals the number of connected components of the Riemann surface of $ϕ^{-1}\circϕ$ over the unit disk. If the order of the Blaschke product $ϕ$ is less than or equal to eight, then every $C^*$-algebra contained in the commutant of $M_ϕ$ is abelian and hence the number of minimal reducing subspaces of $M_ϕ$ equals the number of connect…
In this note we study some basic properties of general fractional derivatives induced by weighted Bergman kernels. As an application we demonstrate a method for generating pre-images of analytic functions under weighted Bergman projections. This approach is useful for proving the surjectivity of weighted Bergman projections in cases when the target space is not a subspace of the domain space (such situations arise often when dealing with Bloch and Besov spaces). We also discuss a fractional Littlewood-Paley formula.
We study bounds for the backward shift operator $f \mapsto (f(z)-f(0))/z$ and the related operator $f \mapsto f - f(0)$ on Hardy and Bergman spaces of analytic and harmonic functions. If $u$ is a real valued harmonic function, we also find a sharp bound on $M_1(r,u-u(0))$ in terms of $\|u\|_{h^1}$, where $M_1$ is the integral mean with $p=1$.
We study reducing subspaces for an analytic multiplication operator M_{z^{n}} on the Bergman space L_{a}^{2}(A_{r}) of the annulus A_{r}, and we prove that M_{z^{n}} has exactly 2^n reducing subspaces. Furthermore, in contrast to what happens for the disk, the same is true for the Hardy space on the annulus. Finally, we extend the results to certain bilateral weighted shifts, and interpret the results in the context of complex geometry.
This paper is devoted to the study of reducing subspaces for multiplication operator $M_ϕ$ on the Dirichlet space with symbol of finite Blaschke product. The reducing subspaces of $M_ϕ$ on the Dirichlet space and Bergman space are related. Our strategy is to use local inverses and Riemann surface to study the reducing subspaces of $M_ϕ$ on the Bergman space, and we discover a new way to study the Riemann surface for $ϕ^{-1}\circϕ$. By this means, we determine the reducing subspaces of $M_ϕ$ on the Dirichlet space when the order of $ϕ$ is $5$; $6$; $7$ and answer some questions of Douglas-Putin…
We give a necessary and sufficient condition for an n-hypercontraction to be similar to the backward shift operator in a weighted Bergman space. This characterization serves as a generalization of the description given in the Hardy space setting, where the geometry of the eigenvector bundles of the operators is used.
It is shown that the algebra \(L^\infty(μ)\) of all bounded measurable functions with respect to a finite measure \(μ\) is localizing on the Hilbert space \(L^2(μ)\) if and only if the measure \(μ\) has an atom. Next, it is shown that the algebra \(H^\infty({\mathbb D})\) of all bounded analytic multipliers on the unit disc fails to be localizing, both on the Bergman space \(A^2({\mathbb D})\) and on the Hardy space \(H^2({\mathbb D}).\) Then, several conditions are provided for the algebra generated by a diagonal operator on a Hilbert space to be localizing. Finally, a theorem is provided abo…
In this article, we characterize nearly invariant subspaces of finite defect for the backward shift operator acting on the vector-valued Hardy space which is a vectorial generalization of a result of Chalendar-Gallardo-Partington (C-G-P). Using this characterization of nearly invariant subspace under the backward shift we completely describe the almost invariant subspaces for the shift and its adjoint acting on the vector valued Hardy space.
Following Beurling's theorem and a study of the topology of invariant subspaces by R. Douglas and C. Pearcy description of path connected components of invariant subspace lattice for shift of multiplicity one has been given by R.Yang. This paper generalizes result to arbitrary finite multiplicity. We show that there exists one to one correspondence between the invariant subspace lattice of shift of arbitrary finite multiplicity and the space of inner functions.
We consider operators acting on a Hilbert space that can be written as the sum of a shift and a diagonal operator and determine when the operator is hyponormal. The condition is presented in terms of the norm of an explicit block Jacobi matrix. We apply this result to the Toeplitz operator with specific algebraic symbols acting on certain weighted Bergman spaces of the unit disk and determine when such operators are hyponormal.
Our aim in this paper is to obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for weighted shift operators on the Hilbert spaces $\ell^{2}(\mathbb Z)$ and $\ell^{2}(\mathbb N)$ to be subspace-transitive, consequently, we show that the Herrero question (D. A. Herrero. Limits of hypercyclic and supercyclic operators, J. Funct. Anal., 99 (1991)179-190) holds true even on a subspace of a Hilbert space, i.e. there exists an operator $T$ such that both $T$ and $T^*$ are subspace-hypercyclic operators for some subspaces. We display the conditions on the direct sum of two invertable bilateral forward weighte…
In this paper, we discuss to the nonuniform sampling problem in principal shift-invariant subspaces of mixed Lebesgue spaces. We proposed a fast reconstruction algorithm which allows to exactly reconstruct the functions in the principal shift-invariant subspaces as long as the sampling set $X=\{(x_{j},y_{k}):k,j\in \mathbb{J}\}$ is sufficiently dense. Our results improve the result in \cite{LiLiu}.
In this note, we describe the backward shift invariant subspaces for a large class of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. This class includes in particular de Branges-Rovnyak spaces (the non-extreme case) and the range space of co-analytic Toeplitz operators.
The translation of an operator is defined by using conjugation with time-frequency shifts. Thus, one can define $Λ$-shift-invariant subspaces of Hilbert-Schmidt operators, finitely generated, with respect to a lattice $Λ$ in $\mathbb{R}^{2d}$. These spaces can be seen as a generalization of classical shift-invariant subspaces of square integrable functions. Obtaining sampling results for these subspaces appears as a natural question that can be motivated by the problem of channel estimation in wireless communications. These sampling results are obtained in the light of the frame theory in a se…
We prove a Weiss conjecture on $β$-admissibility of control and observation operators for discrete and continuous $γ$-hypercontractive semigroups of operators, by representing them in terms of shifts on weighted Bergman spaces and using a reproducing kernel thesis for Hankel operators. Particular attention is paid to the case $γ=2$, which corresponds to the unweighted Bergman shift.
We obtaine the full characterization of proper closed invariant subspaces of a generalized backward shift operator (Pommiez operator) in the Frechet space of all holomorphic functions on a simply connected domain $Ω$ of the complex plane, containing the origin. In the case when the function, which defines this operator, is not has zeros in $Ω$ all such subspaces are finite-dimensional. If additionally $Ω$ coincides with the complex plane, then the considered operator is unicellular. If this function has zeros in $Ω$, then the family of mentioned invariant subspaces splits into two classes: the…
We give an intrinsic characterisation of the separable reflexive Banach spaces that embed into separable reflexive spaces with an unconditional basis all of whose normalised block sequences with the same growth rate are equivalent. This uses methods of E. Odell and T. Schlumprecht.
Let $\{T(t)\}_{t\geq0}$ be a $C_0$-semigroup on an infinite dimensional separable Hilbert space; a suitable definition of near $\{T(t)^*\}_{t\geq0}$ invariance of a subspace is presented in this paper. A series of prototypical examples for minimal nearly $\{S(t)^*\}_{t\geq0}$ invariant subspaces for the shift semigroup $\{S(t)\}_{t\geq0}$ on $L^2(0,\infty)$ are demonstrated, which have close links with nearly $T_θ^*$ invariance on Hardy spaces of the unit disk for Toeplitz operators associated with an inner function $θ$. Especially, the corresponding subspaces on Hardy spaces of the right half…
In this paper, we mainly study geometric constructions of thin Blaschke products $B$ and reducing subspace problem of multiplication operators induced by such symbols $B$ on the Bergman space. Considering such multiplication operators $M_B$, we present a representation of those operators commuting with both $M_B$ and $M_B^*$. It is shown that for "most" thin Blaschke products $B$, $M_B$ is irreducible, i.e. $M_B$ has no nontrivial reducing subspace; and such a thin Blaschke product $B$ is constructed. As an application of the methods, it is proved that for "most" finite Blaschke products $ϕ$, …
Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for density of shift-invariant subspaces of the space $\mathcal{L}$ of integrable functions of bounded support with the inductive limit topology.
A particular case of results from [K2] is as follows. Let the unitary asymptote of a contraction $T$ contain the bilateral shift (of finite or infinite multiplicity). Then there exists an invariant subspace $\mathcal M$ of $T$ such that $T|_{\mathcal M}$ is similar to the unilateral shift of the same multiplicity. The proof is based on the Sz.-Nagy--Foias functional model for contractions. In the present paper this result is generalized to polynomially bounded operators, but in the simplest case. Namely, it is proved that if the unitary asymptote of a polynomially bounded operator $T$ contains…
In this paper, the problem of reconstruction of signals in mixed Lebesgue spaces from their random average samples has been studied. Probabilistic sampling inequalities for certain subsets of shift-invariant spaces have been derived. It is shown that the probabilities increase to one when the sample size increases. Further, explicit reconstruction formulae for signals in these subsets have been obtained for which the numerical simulations have also been performed.
In 1998, John B. Conway and Liming Yang wrote a paper in which they posed a number of open questions regarding the shift on $P^t(μ)$ spaces. A few of these have been completely resolved, while at least one remains wide open. In this paper, we review some of the solutions, mention some alternate approaches and discuss further the problem that remains unsolved.
A particular case of [07] was generalized from contractions to polynomially bounded operators in [G19]. Namely, it is proved in [G19] that if the unitary asymptote of a polynomially bounded operator $T$ contains the bilateral shift of multiplicity $1$, then there exists an invariant subspace $\mathcal M$ of $T$ such that $T|_{\mathcal M}$ is similar to the unilateral shift of multiplicity $1$. In the present paper, some corollaries of this result are given. In particular, reflexivity of polynomially bounded operators described above is proved.
Let T be a C_{\cdot 0}-contraction on a Hilbert space H and S be a non-trivial closed subspace of H. We prove that S is a T-invariant subspace of H if and only if there exists a Hilbert space D and a partially isometric operator Π: H^2_D(\mathbb{D}) \raro H such that ΠM_z = T Πand that S = ran Π, or equivalently, P_S = ΠΠ^*. As an application we completely classify the shift-invariant subspaces of C_{\cdot 0}-contractive and analytic reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces over the unit disc. Our results also includes the case of weighted Bergman spaces over the unit disk.
We define the local trace function for subspaces of $\ltworn$ which are invariant under integer translation. Our trace function contains the dimension function and the spectral function defined by Bownik and Rzeszotnik and completely characterizes the given translation invariant subspace. It has properties such as positivity, additivity, monotony and some form of continuity. It behaves nicely under dilations and modulations. We use the local trace function to deduce, using short and simple arguments, some fundamental facts about wavelets such as the characterizing equations, the equality betwe…
Interpretations of the Beurling-Lax-Halmos Theorem on invariant subspaces of the unilateral shift are explored using the language of Hilbert modules. Extensions and consequences are considered in both the one and multivariate cases with an emphasis on the classical Hardy, Bergman and Drury-Arveson spaces.
We study the invariant subspaces generated by inner functions for a class of $\mathcal{P}^t(μ)$-spaces which can be identified as spaces of analytic functions in the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$, where $μ$ is a measure supported in the closed unit disk and $\mathcal{P}^t(μ)$ is the span of analytic polynomials in the usual Lebesgue space $L^t(μ)$. Our measures define a range of spaces somewhere in between the Hardy and the Bergman spaces, and our results are thus a mixture of results from these two theories. For a large class of measures $μ$ we characterize the cyclic inner functions, and exhibit so…
