The behavior of the collective rotor in wobbling motion is investigated within the particle-rotor model for the nucleus $^{135}$Pr by transforming the wave functions from the $K$-representation to the $R$-representation. After reproducing the experimental energy spectra and wobbling frequencies, the evolution of the wobbling mode in $^{135}$Pr, from transverse at low spins to longitudinal at high spins, is illustrated by the distributions of the total angular momentum in the intrinsic reference frame (azimuthal plot). Finally, the coupling schemes of the angular momenta of the rotor and the high-$j$ particle for transverse and longitudinal wobbling are obtained from the analysis of the probability distributions of the rotor angular momentum ($R$-plots) and their projections onto the three principal axes ($K_R$-plots).
The intraband electromagnetic transitions in the framework of collective Hamiltonian for chiral and wobbling modes are calculated. By going beyond the mean field approximation on the orientations of rotational axis, the collective Hamiltonian provides the descriptions on both yrast band and collective excitation bands. For a system with one $h_{11/2}$ proton particle and one $h_{11/2}$ neutron hole coupled to a triaxial rotor ($γ=-30^\circ$), the intraband electromagnetic transitions given by the one-dimensional and two-dimensional collective Hamiltonian are compared to the results by the tilt…
The $g$-factor and static quadrupole moment for the wobbling mode in the nuclide $^{133}$La are investigated as functions of the spin $I$by employing the particle rotor model. The model can reproduce the available experimental data of $g$-factor and static quadrupole moment. The properties of the $g$-factor and static quadrupole moment as functions of $I$ are interpreted by analyzing the angular momentum geometry of the collective rotor, proton-particle, and total nuclear system. It is demonstrated that the experimental value of the $g$-factor at the bandhead of the yrast band leads to the con…
The recently reported wobbling bands in $^{135}$Pr are investigated by the collective Hamiltonian, in which the collective parameters, including the collective potential and the mass parameter, are respectively determined from the tilted axis cranking (TAC) model and the harmonic frozen alignment (HFA) formula. It is shown that the experimental energy spectra of both yrast and wobbling bands are well reproduced by the collective Hamiltonian. It is confirmed that the wobbling mode in $^{135}$Pr changes from transverse to longitudinal with the rotational frequency. The mechanism of this transiti…
Excited states of $^{133}$La have been investigated to search for the wobbling excitation mode in the low-spin regime. Wobbling bands with $n_ω$ = 0 and 1 are identified along with the interconnecting $ΔI$ = 1, $E2$ transitions, which are regarded as one of the characteristic features of the wobbling motion. An increase in wobbling frequency with spin implies longitudinal wobbling for $^{133}$La, in contrast with the case of transverse wobbling observed in $^{135}$Pr. This is the first observation of a longitudinal wobbling band in nuclei. The experimental observations are accounted for by cal…
Two new bands built on the two-quasiparticle $π(h_{11/2})^2$ configuration of the even-even nucleus $^{130}$Ba are investigated using constrained triaxial covariant density functional theory combined with quantum particle rotor model calculations. The energy difference between the two bands, as well as the available electromagnetic transition probabilities $B(M1)_{\textrm{out}}/B(E2)_{\textrm{in}}$ and $B(E2)_{\textrm{out}}/B(E2)_{\rm{in}}$, are well reproduced. The analysis of the angular momentum geometry reveals that the higher band represents transverse wobbling motion of a two-quasipartic…
New rotational bands built on the $ν$$(h_{11/2})$ configuration have been identified in $^{105}$Pd. Two bands built on this configuration show the characteristics of transverse wobbling: the $Δ$$I$=1 transitions between them have a predominant E2 component and the wobbling energy decreases with increasing spin. The properties of the observed wobbling bands are in good agreement with theoretical results obtained using constrained triaxial covariant density functional theory and quantum particle rotor model calculations. This provides the first experimental evidence for transverse wobbling bands…
The rare phenomenon of nuclear wobbling motion has been investigated for the nucleus $^{187}$Au. A longitudinal wobbling-bands pair has been identified and clearly distinguished from the associated signature-partner band on the basis of angular distribution measurements. Theoretical calculations in the framework of the Particle Rotor Model (PRM) are found to agree well with the experimental observations. This is the first experimental evidence for longitudinal wobbling bands where the expected signature partner band has also been identified, and establishes this exotic collective mode as a gen…
Rotation of triaxially deformed nucleus has been an interesting subject in the study of nuclear structure. In the present series of work, we investigate wobbling motion and chiral rotation by employing the microscopic framework of angular-momentum projection from cranked triaxially deformed mean-field states. In this first part the wobbling motion is studied in detail. The consequences of the three dimensional cranking are investigated. It is demonstrated that the multiple wobbling rotational bands naturally appear as a result of fully microscopic calculation. They have the characteristic prop…
The $g$-factor and static quadrupole moment of the nuclides $^{135}$Pr, $^{105}$Pd, and $^{187}$Au in the wobbling motion are investigated in the particle-rotor model as functions of the total spin $I$. The $g$-factor of $^{105}\mathrm{Pd}$ increases with increasing $I$, due to the negative gyromagnetic ratio of a neutron valence-neutron. This behavior is in contrast to the decreasing $g$-factor of the other two nuclides, $^{135}$Pr and $^{187}$Au, which feature a valence-proton. The static quadrupole moment $Q$ depends on all three expectation values of the total angular momentum. It is small…
A two-dimensional collective Hamiltonian (2DCH) on both azimuth and polar motions in triaxial nuclei is proposed to investigate the chiral and wobbling modes. In the 2DCH, the collective potential and the mass parameters are determined from three-dimensional tilted axis cranking (TAC) calculations. The broken chiral and signature symmetries in the TAC solutions are restored by the 2DCH. The validity of the 2DCH is illustrated with a triaxial rotor ($γ=-30^\circ$) coupling to one $h_{11/2}$ proton particle and one $h_{11/2}$ neutron hole. By diagonalizing the 2DCH, the angular momenta and energ…
A microscopic quantum ideal rotor-model intrinsic Hamiltonian for triaxial rotation is derived from the nuclear Schrodinger equation by applying a rotation operator to a deformed nuclear ground state. This Hamiltonian is obtained only when a rigid-flow prescription is used for the three rotation angles in the rotation operator. Using Hartree-Fock variational and second quantization methods, the rotor Hamiltonian is transformed into that of a self-consistent triaxial cranking model (MSCRM-3) with a self-consistent angular-velocity vector, plus residual terms associated with the square of the an…
The existence of one-phonon and possible two-phonon transverse wobbling bands is proposed for the first time in two even-even nuclei, $^{134}$Ce and $^{136}$Nd. The predominant $E2$ character of the $ΔI = 1$ transitions connecting the one-phonon wobbling band in $^{134}$Ce to the two-quasiparticle yrast band supports the wobbling interpretation. The extracted wobbling frequencies decrease with increasing spin, indicating the transverse character of the wobbling motion, with the angular momenta of the two quasiparticles aligned perpendicular to the axis of collective rotation. A candidate for t…
The influence of triaxial deformation $γ$ on the purely collective form of wobbling motion in even-even nuclei are discussed based on the triaxial rotor model. It is found that the harmonic approximation is realized well when $γ=30^{\circ}$ for the properties of energy spectra and electric quadrupole transition probabilities, while this approximation gets bad when $γ$ deviates from $30^{\circ}$. A recent data from Coulomb excitation experiment, namely $3_1^+$ and $2_2^+$ for the $^{110}$Ru are studied and might be suggested as the bandhead of the wobbling bands. In addition, two types of angul…
We discuss in depth the application of the classical concepts for interpreting the quantal results from the triaxial rotor core without and with odd-particle. The corresponding limitations caused by the discreteness and finiteness of the angular momentum Hilbert space and the extraction of the relevant features from the complex wave function and distributions of various angular momentum components are discussed in detail. New methods based on spin coherent states and spin squeezed states are introduced. It is demonstrated that the spin coherent state map is a powerful tool to visualize the ang…
A triaxial rotor Hamiltonian with a rigidly aligned high-$j$ quasiparticle is treated by a time-dependent variational principle, using angular momentum coherent states. The resulting classical energy function have three unique critical points in a space of generalized conjugate coordinates, which can minimize the energy for specific ordering of the inertial parameters and a fixed angular momentum state. Due to the symmetry of the problem, there are only two unique solutions, corresponding to wobbling motion around a principal axis and respectively a tilted-axis. The wobbling frequencies are ob…
The reported transverse wobbling band in odd-mass $^{105}$Pd has been reinvestigated by the triaxial particle rotor model. Employing different parameter sets of moment of inertia (MOI), several calculated results could be in good agreement with the experimental data, which show distinct modes of rotational excitation, respectively. These modes are sensitive to the ratio between the MOI at intermediate and short axis. With the increase of this ratio, a wobble about the short axis of the total angular momentum is gradually changed to a wobble about the intermediate axis. In addition, it is exhib…

The behavior of the collective rotor in the chiral motion of triaxially deformed nuclei is investigated using the particle rotor model by transforming the wave functions from the $K$-representation to the $R$-representation. After examining the energy spectra of the doublet bands and their energy differences as functions of the triaxial deformation, the angular momentum components of the rotor, proton, neutron, and the total system are investigated. Moreover, the probability distributions of the rotor angular momentum ($R$-plots) and their projections onto the three principal axes ($K_R$-plots…

Some developments of nuclear-structure physics uniquely related to Copenhagen School are sketched based on theoretical considerations versus experimental findings and one-particle versus collective aspects. Based on my personal overview I pick up the following topics; (1) Study of vibration in terms of particle-vibration coupling; (2) One-particle motion in deformed and rotating potentials, and yrast spectroscopy in high-spin physics; (3) Triaxial shape in nuclei: wobbling motion and chiral bands; (4) Nuclear structure of drip line nuclei: in particular, shell-structure (or magic numbers) chan…
The triaxiality of odd-mass nuclei is investigated by coupling a quasiparticle to an even-even core through the core-quasiparticle coupling model. Both soft and rigid triaxial cores are considered. The "soft core" is described by the collective model with rotation-vibrational motion, while the "rigid core" is described by the triaxial rotor model, which is a limiting case of the collective model with only rotational motion. We show that the presence of the odd quasiparticle modifies the collective quadrupole dynamics of the core to appear more "rigid".
The even cadmium isotopes near the neutron midshell have long been considered good examples of vibrational nuclei. However, the vibrational nature of these nuclei has been questioned based on E2 transition rates that are not consistent with vibrational excitations. In the neighbouring odd-mass nuclei, the g factors of the low-excitation collective states have been shown to be more consistent with a deformed rotational core than a vibrational core. Beyond the comparison of vibrational versus rotational models, recent advances in computational power have made shell-model calculations feasible fo…
In the sequel of the present study, we have investigated the rotational motion of triaxially deformed nucleus by using the microscopic framework of angular-momentum projection. The Woods-Saxon potential and the schematic separable-type interaction are employed as a microscopic Hamiltonian. As the first example nuclear wobbling motion was studied in detail in the part~I of the series. This second part reports on another interesting rotational mode, chiral doublet bands: two prototype examples, $^{128}$Cs and $^{104}$Rh, are investigated. It is demonstrated that the doublet bands naturally appea…
By using the general triaxial rotor model (TRM) and the phonon-configuration mixing scheme within an anharmonic-vibrator(AHV) framework, a series of global correlations between electromagnetic properties of nuclear $2^+_1$ and $2^+_2$ states are analytically established. The correlations from both models can roughly describe the experimental data involving quadrupole collectivity with few exceptions. Furthermore, there seems to be a robust orthogonal transformation between the AHV and TRM bases for realistic nuclear systems, suggesting that the two models may in fact be describing the collecti…
Symmetry breaking is an importance concept in nuclear physics and other fields of physics. Self-consistent coupling between the mean-field potential and the single-particle motion is a key ingredient in the unified model of Bohr and Mottelson, which could lead to a deformed nucleus as a consequence of spontaneous breaking of the rotational symmetry. Some remarks on the finite-size quantum effects are given. In finite nuclei, the deformation inevitably introduces the rotation as a symmetry-restoring collective motion (Anderson-Nambu-Goldstone mode), and the rotation affects the intrinsic motion…
${\textbf{Background:}}$ Atomic nuclei often exhibit collective rotational-like behavior in highly excited states, well above the particle emission threshold. What determines the existence of collective motion in the continuum region, is not fully understood. ${\textbf{Purpose:}}$ In this work, by studying the collective rotation of the positive-parity deformed configurations of the one-neutron halo nucleus $^{11}$Be, we assess different mechanisms that stabilize collective behavior beyond the limits of particle stability. ${\textbf{Method:}}$ To solve a particle-plus-core problem, we employ a…
A microscopic time-reversal invariant cranking model (MCRM) for nuclear collective rotation about a single axis and its coupling to intrinsic motion is derived. The MCRM is derived by transforming the stationary nuclear Schrodinger equation using a collective rotation-intrinsic product wavefunction, imposing no constraints on the wavefunction and the nucleon coordinates, and using no relative co-ordinates. The derivatives of the collective-rotation angle are defined in terms of a combination of rigid and irrotational collective flows of the nucleons. The collective wavefunction is chosen to be…
