In the recent studies of four-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert action, quite a few interesting results such as the Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT) relations, MHV-Lagrangian and quadratic forms have been reported. These results naturally raise an important question: Whether these results are valid for the modified theories of gravity in 4-dimensions? In this work, we consider $R+α\,R^2$ gravity and derive the complete quartic interaction vertex in light-cone gauge. We then discuss the implications of the results for KLT relations, and computing MHV amplitudes.
The dynamical commutators of the light-front Poincaré algebra yield first order differential equations in the $p^+$ momenta for the interaction vertex operators. The homogeneous solution to the equation for the quartic vertex is studied. Consequences as regards the constructibility assumption of quartic higher spin amplitudes from cubic amplitudes are discussed. The existence of quartic contact interactions unrelated to cubic interactions by Poincaré symmetry indicates that the higher spin S-matrix is not constructible. Thus quartic amplitude based no-go results derived by BCFW recursion for M…
We derive the quartic interaction vertex of pure Yang-Mills theory by demanding closure of the light-cone Poincaré algebra in four-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. This calculation explicitly shows why structure constants must satisfy the Jacobi identity. We then prove that corrections to the spin generator, for spin one at this order, vanish. We comment briefly on higher spin fields in this context.
We determine the form of a significantly large class of gauge-invariant quartic vertices for symmetric higher-spin fields (in Vasiliev formalism) in AdS5 space in the rectangular limit, (defined in the paper) using the higher-spin vertex operators in superstring theory, which construction is based on the generators of the higher-spin symmetry algebra, enveloping the AdS isometries. In this limit, a particular simplification is that the quartic vertices do not receive corrections from worldsheet renormalization group flows of the cubic terms, so their structure is fixed directly by the 4-point …
We describe a family of indefinite theta functions of signature $(1,1)$ that can be expressed in terms of trace functions of vertex algebras built from cones in lattices. The family of indefinite theta functions considered has interesting connections with mock theta functions and Appell-Lerch sums. We use these relations to write the McKay-Thompson series of umbral moonshine at lambency $\ell=8,12,16$ in terms of trace functions of vertex algebras modules, and thereby provide the modules for these instances of umbral moonshine.
We analyse the constraints imposed by gauge invariance on higher-order interactions between massless bosonic fields in three-dimensional higher-spin gravities. We show that vertices of quartic and higher order that are independent of the cubic ones can only involve scalars and Maxwell fields. As a consequence, the full non-linear interactions of massless higher-spin fields are completely fixed by the cubic vertex.
Higher-spin theory contains a complex coupling parameter $η$. Different higher-spin vertices are associated with different powers of $η$ and its complex conjugate $\bar η$. Using $Z$-dominance Lemma, that controls spin-locality of the higher-spin equations, we show that the third-order contribution to the zero-form $B(Z;Y;K)$ admits a $Z$-dominated form that leads to spin-local vertices in the $η^2$ and $\bar η^2$ sectors of the higher-spin equations. These vertices include, in particular, the $η^2$ and $\bar η^2$ parts of the $ϕ^4$ scalar field vertex.
We argue that conformal invariance is a common thread linking several scalar effective field theories that appear in the double copy and scattering equations. For a derivatively coupled scalar with a quartic ${\cal O}(p^4)$ vertex, classical conformal invariance dictates an infinite tower of additional interactions that coincide exactly with Dirac-Born-Infeld theory analytically continued to spacetime dimension $D=0$. For the case of a quartic ${\cal O}(p^6)$ vertex, classical conformal invariance constrains the theory to be the special Galileon in $D=-2$ dimensions. We also verify the conform…

The light-cone Hamiltonians for spin 1 and spin 2 fields, describing both the pure and the maximally supersymmetric theories, may be expressed as quadratic forms. In this paper, we show that this feature extends to light-cone higher spin theories. To first order in the coupling constant, we prove that the higher spin Hamiltonians, with and without supersymmetry, are quadratic forms. Scattering amplitude structures emerge naturally in this framework and we relate the momentum space vertex in a supersymmetric higher spin theory to the corresponding vertex in the N=4 Yang-Mills theory.
We study the odd spin structure contributions to the multiloop amplitudes of light-cone gauge superstring field theory. We show that they coincide with the amplitudes in the conformal gauge with two of the vertex operators chosen to be in the pictures different from the standard choice, namely (-1,-1) picture in the type II case and -1 picture in the heterotic case. We also show that the contact term divergences can be regularized in the same way as in the amplitudes for the even structures and we get the amplitudes which coincide with those obtained from the first-quantized approach.
