We extend the notions of topological stability, shadowing and persistence from homeomorphisms to finitely generated group actions on uniform spaces and prove that an expansive action with either shadowing or persistence is topologically stable. Using the concept of null set of a Borel measure $μ$, we introduce the notions of $μ$-expansivity, $μ$-topological stability, $μ$-shadowing and $μ$-persistence for finitely generated group actions on uniform spaces and show that a $μ$-expansive action with either $μ$-shadowing or $μ$-persistence is $μ$-topologically stable.
In this paper the notion of global attractor is extended from the setting of semigroup actions on metric spaces to the setting of semigroup actions on uniformizable spaces. General conditions for the existence of global attractor are discussed and its relationship with the global uniform attractor is presented.
We extend specification and periodic specification to finitely generated group actions on uniform spaces using a concept of specification point. We prove that certain group actions having two distinct specification points have positive entropy. We further prove that if a group containing an infinite order element acts on an infinite Hausdorff uniform space and the action possesses periodic specification, then it is Devaney chaotic.
In this paper we derive new criterion for uniform stability assessment of the linear periodic time-varying systems $\dot x=A(t)x,$ $A(t+T)=A(t).$ As a corollary, the lower and upper bounds for the Floquet characteristic exponents are established. The approach is based on the use of logarithmic norm of the system matrix $A(t).$ Finally we analyze the robustness of the stability property under external disturbance.
This paper is concerned with stability analysis of nonlinear time-varying systems by using Lyapunov function based approach. The classical Lyapunov stability theorems are generalized in the sense that the time-derivative of the Lyapunov functions are allowed to be indefinite. The stability analysis is accomplished with the help of the scalar stable functions introduced in our previous study. Both asymptotic stability and input-to-state stability are considered. Particularly, for asymptotic stability, several concepts such as uniform and non-uniform asymptotic stability, and uniform and non-uni…
We prove existence of finitely many ergodic equilibrium states for a large class of non-uniformly expanding local homeomorphisms on compact manifolds and Holder continuous potentials with not very large oscillation. No Markov structure is assumed. If the transformation is topologically mixing there is a unique equilibrium state, it is exact and satisfies a non-uniform Gibbs property. Under mild additional assumptions we also prove that the equilibrium states vary continuously with the dynamics and the potentials (statistical stability) and are also stable under stochastic perturbations of the …
The paper analyzes the structure and the inner long-term dynamics of the invariant compact sets for the skewproduct flow induced by a family of time-dependent ordinary differential equations of nonhomogeneous linear dissipative type. The main assumptions are made on the dissipative term and on the homogeneous linear term of the equations. The rich casuistic includes the uniform stability of the invariant compact sets, as well as the presence of Li-Yorke chaos and Auslander-Yorke chaos inside the attractor.
In this note we extend the concept of topological stability from homeomorphisms to group actions on compact metric spaces, and prove that if an action of a finitely generated group is expansive and has the pseudo-orbit tracing property then it is topologically stable. This represents a group action version of the Walter's stability theorem. Moreover we give a class of group actions with topological stability or pseudo-orbit tracing property. On the other hand, we also provide a characterization of subshifts of finite type over finitely generated groups in term of pseudo-orbit tracing property.
We will construct an action $Φ$, C0 and C1-stable and we will prove that every C0-stable action acting in a manifold of dimensions greater or equal to two, have the shadowing property.
We prove that every smooth action of Z^k, k>1, on the (k+1)-dimensional torus homotopic to an action by hyperbolic linear maps preserves an absolutely continuous measure. This is a first known result concerning abelian groups of diffeomorphisms where existence of an invariant geometric structure is obtained from homotopy data.
We consider open sets of maps in a manifold $M$ exhibiting non-uniform expanding behaviour in some domain $S\subset M$. Assuming that there is a forward invariant region containing $S$ where each map has a unique SRB measure, we prove that under general uniformity conditions, the SRB measure varies continuously in the $L^1$-norm with the map. As a main application we show that the open class of maps introduced in [V] fits to this situation, thus proving that the SRB measures constructed in [A] vary continuously with the map.
We prove absolute continuity of "high entropy" hyperbolic invariant measures for smooth actions of higher rank abelian groups assuming that there are no proportional Lyapunov exponents. For actions on tori and infranilmanifolds existence of an absolutely continuous invariant measure of this kind is obtained for actions whose elements are homotopic to those of an action by hyperbolic automorphisms with no multiple or proportional Lyapunov exponents. In the latter case a form of rigidity is proved for certain natural classes of cocycles over the action.
In this paper we obtain an almost sure invariance principle for convergent sequences of either Anosov diffeomorphisms or expanding maps on compact Riemannian manifolds and prove an ergodic stability result for such sequences. The sequences of maps need not correspond to typical points of a random dynamical system. The methods in the proof rely on the stability of compositions of hyperbolic dynamical systems. We introduce the notion of sequential conjugacies and prove that these vary in a Lipschitz way with respect to the generating sequences of dynamical systems. As a consequence, we prove sta…
We study expansivity and the shadowing property for finitely generated group actions on metric spaces. We consider the projecting and lifting problems for actions having these properties. We prove that every expansive action with the shadowing property is strongly $GH$-stable (Gromov-Hausdorff stable). Finally, we introduce sequential shadowing property for finitely generated group actions on metric spaces and show that such shadowing is strong enough to imply the spectral decomposition property.
It is well known that, for mass-action systems, complex-balanced equilibria are asymptotically stable. For generalized mass-action systems, even if there exists a unique complex-balanced equilibrium (in every stoichiometric class and for all rate constants), it need not be stable. We first discuss several notions of matrix stability (on a linear subspace) such as D-stability and diagonal stability, and then we apply our abstract results to complex-balanced equilibria of generalized mass-action systems. In particular, we show that linear stability (on the stoichiometric subspace and for all rat…
We provide explicit conditions for uniform stability, global asymptotic stability and uniform exponential stability for dynamic equations with a single delay and a nonnegative coefficient. Some examples on nonstandard time scales are also given to show applicability and sharpness of the new results.
We establish new characterizations for (pseudo)isometric extensions of topological dynamical systems. For such extensions, we also extend results about relatively invariant measures and Fourier analysis that were previously only known in the minimal case to a significantly larger class, including all transitive systems. To bypass the reliance on minimality of the classical approaches to isometric extensions via the Ellis semigroup, we show that extensions of topological dynamical systems can be described as groupoid actions and then adapt the concept of enveloping semigroups to construct a uni…
In this paper, some global existence and uniform asymptotic stability results for fractional functional differential equations are proved. It is worthy mentioning that when $α=1$ the initial value problem (1.1) reduces to a classical dissipative differential equation with delays in [4]
In this paper the notions of non-uniform in time Robust Blobal Asymptotic Output Stability (RGAOS) and Input-to-Output Stability (IOS) for discrete-time systems are studied. Characterizations as well as links between these notions are provided. Particularly, it is shown that a discrete-time system with continuous dynamics satisfies the non-uniform in time IOS property if and only if the corresponding unforced system is non-uniformly in time RGAOS. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the Robust Output Feedback Stabilization (ROFS) problem are also given.
We prove that the stability problem of a vertical uniform rotation of a heavy top is completely solved by using the linearization method and the conserved quantities of the differential system which describe the rotation of the heavy top.
In this paper, a class of abstract dynamical systems is considered which encompasses a wide range of nonlinear finite- and infinite-dimensional systems. We show that the existence of a non-coercive Lyapunov function without any further requirements on the flow of the forward complete system ensures an integral version of uniform global asymptotic stability. We prove that also the converse statement holds without any further requirements on regularity of the system. Furthermore, we give a characterization of uniform global asymptotic stability in terms of the integral stability properties and a…
Given a uniform foliation by Gromov hyperbolic leaves on a $3$-manifold, we show that the action of the fundamental group on the universal circle is minimal and transitive on pairs of different points. We also prove two other results: we prove that general uniform Reebless foliations are $\mathbb{R}$-covered and we give a new description of the universal circle of $\mathbb{R}$-covered foliations with Gromov hyperbolic leaves in terms of the JSJ decomposition of $M$.
We show that the existence of a dense set of periodic points for a topologically transitive non-minimal continuous group action on a Hausdorff uniform space with an infinite acting group does not necessarily imply a sensitive dependence to the initial conditions in such a system. This leads to define the chaos in the sense of Devaney for a continuous group action on a Hausdorff uniform spaces with an infinite acting group in the original way, i.e. a non-minimal topologically transitive and sensitive system with a dense set of periodic points is a chaotic system in the sense of Devaney.
Chemical reaction networks with generalized mass-action kinetics lead to power-law dynamical systems. As a simple example, we consider the Lotka reactions with two chemical species and arbitrary power-law kinetics. We study existence, uniqueness, and stability of the positive equilibrium, in particular, we characterize its global asymptotic stability in terms of the kinetic orders.
We study the rate of decay of correlations for equilibrium states associated to a robust class of non-uniformly expanding maps where no Markov assumption is required. We show that the Ruelle-Perron-Frobenius operator acting on the space of Holder continuous observables has a spectral gap and deduce the exponential decay of correlations and the central limit theorem. In particular, we obtain an alternative proof for the existence and uniqueness of the equilibrium states and we prove that the topological pressure varies continuously. Finally, we use the spectral properties of the transfer operat…
We give a topological stability result for the action of the fundamental group of a compact manifold of negative curvature on its boundary at infinity: any nearby action of this group by homeomorphisms of the sphere is semi-conjugate to the standard boundary action. Using similar techniques we prove a global rigidity result for the "slithering actions" of 3-manifold groups that come from skew-Anosov flows. As applications, we construct hyperbolic 3-manifolds that admit arbitrarily many topologically inequivalent Anosov flows, answering a question from Kirby's problem list, and also give a more…
We present a uniform version of a result of M. Gromov on the surjunctivity of maps commuting with expansive group actions and discuss several applications. We prove in particular that for any group $Γ$ and any field $\K$, the space of $Γ$-marked groups $G$ such that the group algebra $\K[G]$ is stably finite is compact.
A subset $A$ of the state space is called uniformly globally weakly attractive if for any neighborhood $S$ of $A$ and any bounded subset $B$ there is a uniform finite time $τ$ so that any trajectory starting in $B$ intersects $S$ within the time not larger than $τ$. We show that practical uniform global asymptotic stability (pUGAS) is equivalent to the existence of a bounded uniformly globally weakly attractive set. This result is valid for a wide class of distributed parameter systems, including time-delay systems, switched systems, many classes of PDEs and evolution differential equations in…
We propose a Caputo type fractional-order mathematical model for the transmission dynamics of tuberculosis (TB). Uniform asymptotic stability of the unique endemic equilibrium of the fractional-order TB model is proved, for any $α\in (0, 1)$. Numerical simulations for the stability of the endemic equilibrium are provided.
We prove that groups acting boundedly and order-primitively on linear orders or acting extremly proximality on a Cantor set (the class including various Higman-Thomson groups and Neretin groups of almost automorphisms of regular trees, also called groups of spheromorphisms) are uniformly simple. Explicit bounds are provided.
We investigate finite amplitude stability of spatially inhomogeneous steady state of an incompressible viscoelastic fluid which occupies a mechanically isolated vessel with walls kept at spatially non-uniform temperature. For a wide class of incompressible viscoelastic models including the Oldroyd-B model, the Giesekus model, the FENE-P model, the Johnson--Segalman model, and the Phan--Thien--Tanner model we prove that the steady state is stable subject to any finite perturbation.
In his 1985 paper Sullivan sketched a proof of his structural stability theorem for differentiable group actions satisfying certain expansion-hyperbolicity axioms. In this paper we relax Sullivan's axioms and introduce a notion of "meandering hyperbolicity" for group actions on geodesic metric spaces. This generalization is substantial enough to encompass actions of certain non-hyperbolic groups, such as actions of "uniform lattices" in semisimple Lie groups on flag manifolds. At the same time, our notion is sufficiently robust and we prove that meandering-hyperbolic actions are still structur…
For time-invariant finite-dimensional systems, it is known that global asymptotic stability (GAS) is equivalent to uniform global asymptotic stability (UGAS), in which the decay rate and transient overshoot of solutions are requested to be uniform on bounded sets of initial states. This paper investigates this relationship for time-invariant delay systems. We show that UGAS and GAS are equivalent for this class of systems under the assumption of robust forward completeness, i.e. under the assumption that the reachable set from any bounded set of initial states on any finite time horizon is bou…
