In this article which is the first of a series of three, we consider $\mathcal W({\mathfrak{sl}_d})$-symmetric conformal field theory in topological regimes for a generic value of the background charge, where $\mathcal W({\mathfrak{sl}_d})$ is the W-algebra associated to the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}_d}$, whose vertex operator algebra is included to that of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak g}_1$ at level 1. In such regimes, the theory admits a free field representation. We show that the generalized Ward identities assumed to be satisfied by chiral conformal blocks with current insertions can be solved perturbatively in topological regimes. This resolution uses a generalization of the topological recursion to non-commutative, or quantum, spectral curves. In turn, special geometry arguments yields a conjecture for the perturbative reconstruction of a particular chiral block.
In this paper, we construct a new integrable equation which is a generalization of $q$-Toda equation. Meanwhile its soliton solutions are constructed to show its integrable property. Further the Lax pairs of the generalized $q$-Toda equation and a whole integrable generalized $q$-Toda hierarchy are also constructed. To show the integrability, the Bi-hamiltonian structure and tau symmetry of the generalized $q$-Toda hierarchy are given and this leads to the tau function.
In this note we extend integrability conditions for the symmetric stretch tensor $U$ in the polar decomposition of the deformation gradient $\nablaφ=F=R\,U$ to the non-symmetric case. In doing so we recover integrability conditions for the first Cosserat deformation tensor. Let $F=\bar R\,\bar U$ with $\bar R:Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^3\longrightarrow\mathrm{SO}(3)$ and $\bar U:Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^3\longrightarrow \mathrm{GL}(3)$. Then $\mathfrak{K}:={\bar R}^T\mathrm{Grad}\,{\bar R}=\mathrm{Anti}\Big( \frac{1}{\mathrm{det} \bar U}\Big[\bar U(\mathrm{Curl} \bar U)^T-\frac{1}{2} \mathrm{tr}(\bar U(\mat…
In these notes we study the duality between sigma-models and Toda QFT's. We claim that $\mathfrak{gl}(n|n)$ affine Toda field theory behaves in the strong coupling limit as $η-$deformed $\mathbb{CP}(n-1)$ sigma-model plus a free field.
We describe new constructions of the infinite-dimensional representations of $U(\mathfrak{g})$ and $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ for $\mathfrak{g}$ being $\mathfrak{gl}(N)$ and $\mathfrak{sl}(N)$. The application of these constructions to the quantum integrable theories of Toda type is discussed. With the help of these infinite-dimensional representations we manage to establish direct connection between group theoretical approach to the quantum integrability and Quantum Inverse Scattering Method based on the representation theory of Yangian and its generalizations. In the case of $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ the…
The orthosymplectic super Lie algebra $\mathfrak{osp}(1|\,2\ell)$ is the closest analog of standard Lie algebras in the world of super Lie algebras. We demonstrate that the corresponding $\mathfrak{osp}(1|\,2\ell)$-Toda chain turns out to be an instance of a $BC_\ell$-Toda chain. The underlying reason for this relation is discussed.
We reformulate the singularity confinement of the discrete Toda equation. We prove the co-primeness property, which has been introduced in our previous paper (arXiv:1311.0060) as one of the integrability criteria, for the discrete Toda equation. We study three types of boundary conditions (semi-infinite, molecule, periodic) for the discrete Toda equation, and prove that the same co-primeness property holds for all the types of boundaries. (v2: typos corrected, final version to appear in J. Math. Phys.)
The Liouville integrability of the generalised type II defects is investigated. Full integrability is not considered, only the existence of an infinite number of conserved quantities associated with a system containing a defect. For defects in affine Toda field theories (ATFTs) it is shown that momentum conservation is very likely to be a necessary condition for integrability. The defect Lax matrices which guarantee zero curvature, and so an infinite number of conserved quantities, are calculated for the momentum conserving Tzitzéica defect and the momentum conserving $D_4$ ATFT defect. Some a…
We study the linear problem associated with modified affine Toda field equation for the Langlands dual $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}^\vee$, where $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$ is an untwisted affine Lie algebra. The connection coefficients for the asymptotic solutions of the linear problem are found to correspond to the $Q$-functions for $\mathfrak{g}$-type quantum integrable models. The $ψ$-system for the solutions associated with the fundamental representations of $\mathfrak{g}$ leads to Bethe ansatz equations associated with the affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$. We also study the $A^{(2)}_{2r}$ affine …
Let $\mathfrak{D}$ be the space consists of pairs $(f,g)$, where $f$ is a univalent function on the unit disc with $f(0)=0$, $g$ is a univalent function on the exterior of the unit disc with $g(\infty)=\infty$ and $f'(0)g'(\infty)=1$. In this article, we define the time variables $t_n, n\in \Z$, on $\mathfrak{D}$ which are holomorphic with respect to the natural complex structure on $\mathfrak{D}$ and can serve as local complex coordinates for $\mathfrak{D}$. We show that the evolutions of the pair $(f,g)$ with respect to these time coordinates are governed by the dispersionless Toda hierarchy…
Toda conformal field theories are natural generalizations of Liouville conformal field theory that enjoy an enhanced level of symmetry. In Toda conformal field theories this higher-spin symmetry can be made explicit, thanks to a path integral formulation of the model based on a Lie algebra structure. The purpose of the present document is to explain how this higher level of symmetry can manifest itself within the rigorous probabilistic framework introduced by R. Rhodes, V. Vargas and the first author. One of its features is the existence of holomorphic currents that are introduced via a rigoro…
We study completely integrable systems attached to Takiff algebras $\mathfrak{g}_N$, extending open Toda systems of split simple Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}$. With respect to Darboux coordinates on coadjoint orbits $\mathcal{O}$, the potentials of the hamiltonians are products of polynomial and exponential functions. General solutions for equations of motion for $\mathfrak{g}_N$ are obtained using differential operators called jet transformations. These results are applied to a $3$-body problem based on $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$, and to an extension of soliton solutions for $A_\infty$ to associated Ta…
In our previous papers we described the structure of trajectories of the symmetric Toda system on normal real forms of various Lie algebras and showed that it was totally determined by the Hasse diagram of the Bruhat order on the corresponding Weil group. This note deals with the simplest non-split real Lie algebra, $\mathfrak{so}(2,4)$. It turns out, that the phase diagram in this case is also closely related with the Bruhat order of the relative Weyl group, but a bit more information is necessary to describe the dimensions of the trajectory spaces.
We study the two-dimensional affine Toda field equations for affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$ modified by a conformal transformation and the associated linear equations. In the conformal limit, the associated linear problem reduces to a (pseudo-)differential equation. For classical affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$, we obtain a (pseudo-)differential equation corresponding to the Bethe equations for the Langlands dual of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, which were found by Dorey et al. in study of the ODE/IM correspondence.
In this article, we classify the solutions of the dispersionless Toda hierarchy into degenerate and non-degenerate cases. We show that every non-degenerate solution is determined by a function $\mathcal{H}(z_1,z_2)$ of two variables. We interpret these non-degenerate solutions as defining evolutions on the space $\mathfrak{D}$ of pairs of conformal mappings $(g,f)$, where $g$ is a univalent function on the exterior of the unit disc, $f$ is a univalent function on the unit disc, normalized such that $g(\infty)=\infty$, $f(0)=0$ and $f'(0)g'(\infty)=1$. For each solution, we show how to define t…
We investigate the perturbative integrability of massive (1+1)-dimensional bosonic quantum field theories, focusing on the conditions for them to have a purely elastic S-matrix, with no particle production and diagonal scattering, at tree level. For theories satisfying what we call `simply-laced scattering conditions', by which we mean that poles in inelastic $2$ to $2$ processes cancel in pairs, and poles in allowed processes are only due to one on-shell propagating particle at a time, the requirement that all inelastic amplitudes must vanish is shown to imply the so-called area rule, connect…
In this short note we show that the Bruhat cells in real normal forms of semisimple Lie algebras enjoy the same property as their complex analogs: for any two elements $w$, $w'$ in the Weyl group $W(\mathfrak g)$, the corresponding real Bruhat cell $X_w$ intersects with the dual Bruhat cell $Y_{w'}$ iff $w\prec w'$ in the Bruhat order on $W(\mathfrak g)$. Here $\mathfrak g$ is a normal real form of a semisimple complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak g_\mathbb C$. Our reasoning is based on the properties of the Toda flows rather than on the analysis of the Weyl group action and geometric considerations…
We discuss the main points of the quantum group approach in the theory of quantum integrable systems and illustrate them for the case of the quantum group $U_q(\mathcal L(\mathfrak{sl}_2))$. We give a complete set of the functional relations correcting inexactitudes of the previous considerations. A special attention is given to the connection of the representations used to construct the universal transfer operators and $Q$-operators.
In our previous paper [Comm. Math. Phys. 330 (2014), 367-399] we described the asymptotic behaviour of trajectories of the full symmetric $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ Toda lattice in the case of distinct eigenvalues of the Lax matrix. It turned out that it is completely determined by the Bruhat order on the permutation group. In the present paper we extend this result to the case when some eigenvalues of the Lax matrix coincide. In that case the trajectories are described in terms of the projection to a partial flag space where the induced dynamical system verifies the same properties as before: we show …
We consider the two-dimensional $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ quantum Toda field theory with an imaginary background charge. This conformal field theory has a higher spin symmetry ($W_n$ algebra), a central charge $c \leq n-1$ and a continuous spectrum. Using the conformal bootstrap, we compute structure constants involving two arbitrary scalar fields and a semi-degenerate field of Wyllard type. The solution obtained is not the analytic continuation of the usual Toda three-point function. Non-scalar primary fields and their three-point functions are also discussed. Non-scalar primary fields are classified…
In the paper, we make use of Manton's analytical method to investigate the force between kink and the anti-kink with large distance in $1+1$ dimensional field theory. The related potential has infinite order corrections of exponential pattern, and coefficients for each order are determined. These coefficients can also be obtained by solving the equation of the fluctuation around the vacuum. At the lowest order, the kink lattice represents the Toda lattice. With higher order correction terms, the kink lattice can represent one kind of the generic Toda lattice. With only two sites, the kink latt…
The first part of this work consists of a study of the ODE/IM correspondence for simply-laced affine Toda field theories. It is a first step towards a full generalisation of the results of Lukyanov and Zamolodchikov on $\hat{\mathfrak a}_1$ to a general affine Lie-Kač-Moody algebra $\hat{\mathfrak g}$. In order to achieve our goal, we investigate the structure of evaluation representations of $\hat{\mathfrak g}$ and show how their tensor products are related by what we call projected isomorphisms. These isomorphisms are used to construct a set of quadratic functional relations, called $ψ$-syst…
Basic notions regarding classical integrable systems are reviewed. An algebraic description of the classical integrable models together with the zero curvature condition description is presented. The classical r-matrix approach for discrete and continuum classical integrable models is introduced. Using this framework the associated classical integrals of motion and the corresponding Lax pair are extracted based on algebraic considerations. Our attention is restricted to classical discrete and continuum integrable systems with periodic boundary conditions. Typical examples of discrete (Toda cha…
We consider an infinite quiver $Q(\mathfrak{g})$ and a family of periodic quivers $Q_m(\mathfrak{g})$ for a finite dimensional simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and $m \in \mathbb{Z}_{>1}$. The quiver $Q(\mathfrak{g})$ is essentially same as what introduced by Hernandez and Leclerc for the quantum affine algebra. We construct the Weyl group $W(\mathfrak{g})$ as a subgroup of the cluster modular group for $Q_m(\mathfrak{g})$, in a similar way as what studied by the author, Ishibashi and Oya, and study its applications to the $q$-characters of quantum non-twisted affine algebras $U_q(\hat{\mathf…
We consider deformations of the $SU(3)$ Affine Toda theory (AT) and investigate the integrability properties of the deformed theories. We find that for some special deformations all conserved quantities change to being conserved only asymptotically, {\it i.e.} in the process of the scattering of two solitons these charges do vary in time, but they return, after the scattering, to the values they had prior to the scattering. This phenomenon, which we have called quasi-integrability, is related to special properties of the two-soliton solutions under space-time parity transformations. Some prope…
We prove that the field equations of supergravity for purely time-dependent backgrounds, which reduce to those of a one--dimensional sigma model, admit a Lax pair representation and are fully integrable. In the case where the effective sigma model is on a maximally split non--compact coset U/H (maximal supergravity or subsectors of lower supersymmetry supergravities) we are also able to construct a completely explicit analytic integration algorithm, adapting a method introduced by Kodama et al in a recent paper. The properties of the general integral are particularly suggestive. Initial data a…
For $\mathfrak g$ a Kac-Moody algebra of affine type, we show that there is an $\text{Aut}\, \mathcal O$-equivariant identification between $\text{Fun}\,\text{Op}_{\mathfrak g}(D)$, the algebra of functions on the space of ${\mathfrak g}$-opers on the disc, and $W\subset π_0$, the intersection of kernels of screenings inside a vacuum Fock module $π_0$. This kernel $W$ is generated by two states: a conformal vector, and a state $δ_{-1}\left|0\right>$. We show that the latter endows $π_0$ with a canonical notion of translation $T^{\text{(aff)}}$, and use it to define the densities in $π_0$ of in…
We show that the three strings vertex coefficients in light--cone open string field theory satisfy the Hirota equations for the dispersionless Toda lattice hierarchy. We show that Hirota equations allow us to calculate the correlators of an associated quantum system where the Neumann coefficients represent the two--point functions. We consider next the three strings vertex coefficients of the light--cone string field theory on a maximally supersymmetric pp--wave background. Using the previous results we are able to show that these Neumann coefficients satisfy the Hirota equations for the full …
We construct a family of quasigraded Lie algebras that coincide with the deformations of the loop algebras in "principal" gradation and admit Kostant-Adler-Symes scheme. Using them we obtain new Volterra coupled systems and modified Toda field equations for all series of classical matrix Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}$.
We endow Ruijsenaars' open difference Toda chain with a one-sided boundary interaction of Askey-Wilson type and diagonalize the quantum Hamiltonian by means of deformed hyperoctahedral $q$-Whittaker functions that arise as a $t=0$ degeneration of the Macdonald-Koornwinder multivariate Askey-Wilson polynomials. This immediately entails the quantum integrability, the bispectral dual system, and the $n$-particle scattering operator for the chain in question.
An integrable system is introduced, which is a generalization of the $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ quantum affine Gaudin model. Among other things, the Hamiltonians are constructed and their spectrum is calculated within the ODE/IQFT approach. The model fits within the framework of Yang-Baxter integrability. This opens a way for the systematic quantization of a large class of integrable non-linear sigma models. There may also be some interest in terms of Condensed Matter applications, as the theory can be thought of as a multiparametric generalization of the Kondo model.
The notion of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifold generalizes that of Poisson-Nijenhuis manifold. The relevance of the latter in the theory of completely integrable systems is well established since the birth of the bi-Hamiltonian approach to integrability. In this note, we discuss the relevance of the notion of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifold in the context of finite-dimensional integrable systems. Generically (as we show by an example with $3$ degrees of freedom) the Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structure is largely too general to ensure Liouville integrability of a system. However, we prove that t…
In this paper we generalize the quantization procedure of Toda-mKdV hierarchies to the case of arbitrary affine (super)algebras. The quantum analogue of the monodromy matrix, related to the universal R-matrix with the lower Borel subalgebra represented by the corresponding vertex operators is introduced. The auxiliary L-operators satisfying RTT-relation are constructed and the quantum integrability condition is obtained. General approach is illustrated by means of two important examples.
Young diagrams can be parameterized with the help of hook variables, which is well known but never studied in big detail. We demonstrate that this is the most adequate parameterization for many physical applications: from the Schur functions, conventional, skew and shifted, which all satisfy their own kinds of determinant formulas in these coordinates, to KP/Toda integrability and related basis of cut-and-join $\hat W$-operators, which are both actually expressed through the single-hook diagrams. In particular, we discuss a new type of multi-component KP $τ$-functions, Matisse $τ$-functions. W…
We propose several different types of construction principles for new classes of Toda field theories based on root systems defined on Lorentzian lattices. In analogy to conformal and affine Toda theories based on root systems of semi-simple Lie algebras, also their Lorentzian extensions come about in conformal and massive variants. We carry out the Painlevé integrability test for the proposed theories, finding in general only one integer valued resonance corresponding to the energy-momentum tensor. Thus most of the Lorentzian Toda field theories are not integrable, as the remaining resonances,…
We build in this paper the algebra of q-deformed pseudo-differential operators shown to be an essential step towards setting a q-deformed integrability program. In fact, using the results of this q-deformed algebra, we derive the q-analogues of the generalized KdV hierarchy. We focus in particular on the first leading orders of this q-deformed hierarchy namely the q-KdV and q-Boussinesq integrable systems. We present also the q-generalization of the conformal transformations of the currents and discuss the primarity condition of the fields by using the Volterra gauge group transformations for …
There is now a renewed interest to the Hurwitz tau-function, counting the isomorphism classes of Belyi pairs, arising in the study of equilateral triangulations and Grothiendicks's dessins d'enfant. It is distinguished by belonging to a particular family of Hurwitz tau-functions, possessing conventional Toda/KP integrability properties. We explain how the variety of recent observations about this function fits into the general theory of matrix model tau-functions. All such quantities possess a number of different descriptions, related in a standard way: these include Toda/KP integrability, sev…
The Adler Kostant Symes [A-K-S] scheme is used to describe mechanical systems for quadratic Hamiltonians of $\mathbb R^{2n}$ on coadjoint orbits of the Heisenberg Lie group. The coadjoint orbits are realized in a solvable Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ that admits an ad-invariant metric. Its quadratic induces the Hamiltonian on the orbits, whose Hamiltonian system is equivalent to that one on $\mathbb R^{2n}$. This system is a Lax pair equation whose solution can be computed with help of the Adjoint representation. For a certain class of functions, the Poisson commutativity on the coadjoint orbits …
Various features of the even order poles appearing in the S-matrices of simply-laced affine Toda field theories are analysed in some detail. In particular, the coefficients of first- and second-order singularities appearing in the Laurent expansion of the S-matrix around a general $2N^{\rm th}$ order pole are derived in a universal way using perturbation theory at one loop. We show how to cut loop diagrams contributing to the pole into particular products of tree-level graphs that depend on the on-shell geometry of the loop; in this way, we recover the coefficients of the Laurent expansion aro…
We continue to investigate the relationship between the infrared physics of N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions and various integrable models such as Gaudin, Calogero-Moser and quantum spin chains. We prove interesting dualities among some of these integrable systems by performing different, albeit equivalent, quantizations of the Seiberg-Witten curve of the four dimensional theory. We also discuss conformal field theories related to N=2 4d gauge theories by the Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa (AGT) duality and the role of conformal blocks of those CFTs in the integrable systems. As a…
Spin $q$-Whittaker symmetric polynomials labeled by partitions $λ$ were recently introduced by Borodin and Wheeler (arXiv:1701.06292) in the context of integrable $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ vertex models. They are a one-parameter deformation of the $t=0$ Macdonald polynomials. We present a new, more convenient modification of spin $q$-Whittaker polynomials and find two Macdonald type $q$-difference operators acting diagonally in these polynomials with eigenvalues, respectively, $q^{-λ_1}$ and $q^{λ_N}$ (where $λ$ is the polynomial's label). We study probability measures on interlacing arrays based on s…
We describe the algebraic ingredients of a proof of the conjecture of Frenkel and Ip that the category of positive representations $\mathcal{P}_λ$ of the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$ is closed under tensor products. Our results generalize those of Ponsot and Teschner in the rank 1 case of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. In higher rank, many nontrivial features appear, the most important of these being a surprising connection to the quantum integrability of the open Coxeter-Toda lattice. We show that the closure under tensor products follows from the orthogonality and completeness of the To…
