We discuss the notion of hidden correlations in classical and quantum indivisible systems along with such characteristics of the correlations as the mutual information and conditional information corresponding to the entropic subadditivity condition and the entropic strong subadditivity condition. We present an analog of the Bayes formula for systems without subsystems, study entropic inequality for von Neumann entropy and Tsallis entropy of the single-qudit state, and discuss the inequalities for qubit and qutrit states as an example.
Gerjuoy [Phys. Rev. A 67, 052308 (2003)] has derived a closed- form lower bound for the entanglement of formation of a mixed qubit-qudit system (qudit system has d levels with d>=3. In this paper, inspired by Gerjuoy's method, we propose a scheme that partitions a qubit-qudit system into d(d-1)/2 qubit-qubit systems, which can be treated by all known methods pertinent to qubit-qubit system. We study entanglement properties of hypergraph states in arbitrary finite dimension. We compute multipartite entanglement of elementary qudit hypergraph states, namely those endowed with a single maximum-cardinality hyperedge. We show that, analogously to the qubit case, also for arbitrary dimension there exists a lower bound for multipartite entanglement of connected qudit hypergraph states; this is given by the multipartite entanglement of an equal-dimension elementary hypergraph state featuring the same number of qudits as the largest-cardinality hyperedge. We discuss the notions of mutual information and conditional information for noncomposite systems, classical and quantum; both the mutual information and the conditional information are associated with the presence of hidden correlations in the state of a single qudit. We consider analogs of the entanglement phenomena in the systems without subsystems related to strong hidden quantum correlations.
Two measures of entanglement, negativity and concurrence are studied for two arbitrary qudits. We obtain negativity as an expectation value of an operator. The differences of the squares of negativity and concurrence are invariants of multilevel entanglement. Explicit results for qutrits and quadrits are obtained.
The qudit state for j = 3=2 with density matrix of the form corresponding to X-state of two-qubits is studied from the point of view of entanglement and separability properties. The method of qubit portrait of qudit states is used to get the entropic inequalities for the entangled state of the single qudit. The tomographic probability representation of the qudit X-state under consideration and its Shannon and q-entropic characteristics are presented in explicit form.
Entanglement is one of important resources for quantum communication tasks. Most of results are focused on qubit entanglement. Our goal in this work is to characterize the multipartite high-dimensional entanglement. We firstly derive an entanglement polygon inequality for the $q$-concurrence, which manifests the relationship among all the "one-to-group" marginal entanglements in any multipartite qudit system. Entanglement is one of the important resources in quantum tasks. Recently, Yang $et$ $al.$ [arXiv:2205.08801] proposed an entanglement polygon inequalities (EPI) in terms of some entanglement measures for $n$-qudit pure states. Entanglement, quantum steering and nonlocality are distinct quantum correlations which are the resources behind various of quantum information and quantum computation applications. Entanglement plays a crucial role in quantum processes particularly those pertaining to quantum information and computation. An analytical expression for an entanglement measure defined in terms of success rate of Grover's search algorithm has been obtained for qutrit systems with real coefficients and the calculated results agree well with the conventional entropy based measure. The entanglement measure is further generalised for qudit (d-level) systems with real coefficients.
We investigate the time evolution of entanglement for bipartite systems of arbitrary dimensions under the influence of decoherence. For qubits, we determine the precise entanglement decay rates under different system-environment couplings, including finite temperature effects. For qudits, we show how to obtain upper bounds for the decay rates and also present exact solutions for various classes of states.
The entanglement in a pure state of N qudits (d-dimensional distinguishable quantum particles) can be characterised by specifying how entangled its subsystems are. A generally mixed subsystem of m qudits is obtained by tracing over the other N-m qudits. We examine the entanglement in the space of mixed states of m qudits. We show that for a typical pure state of N qudits, its subsystems smaller than N/3 qudits will have a positive partial transpose and hence are separable or bound entangled. We present a multipartite entanglement measure for $N$-qudit pure states, using the norm of the correlation tensor which occurs in the Bloch representation of the state. We compute this measure for important class of $N$-qutrit pure states, namely general GHZ states. We prove that this measure possesses almost all the properties expected of a good entanglement measure, including monotonicity. Finally, we extend this measure to $N$-qudit mixed states via convex roof construction and establish its various properties, including its monotonicity.
We propose a protocol ${\cal D}_n$ for faithfully teleporting an arbitrary $n$-qudit state with the tensor product state (TPS) of $n$ generalized Bell states (GBSs) as the quantum channel. We also put forward explicit protocol ${\cal D}'_n$ and ${\cal D}''_n$ for faithfully teleporting an arbitrary $n$-qudit state with two classes of $2n$-qudit GESs as the quantum channel, where the GESs are a kind of genuine entangled states we construct and can not be reducible to the TPS of $n$ GBSs.
We present a general strategy to derive entanglement criteria which consists in performing a mapping from qudits to qubits that preserves the separability of the parties and SU(2) rotational invariance. Consequently, it is possible to apply the well known positive partial transpose criterion to reveal the existence of quantum correlations between qudits. We show that the density-matrix states of noncomposite qudit systems satisfy entropic and information relations like the subadditivity condition, strong subadditivity condition, and Araki--Lieb inequality, which characterize hidden quantum correlations of observables associated with these indivisible systems. We derive these relations employing a specific map of the entropic inequalities known for density matrices of multiqudit systems to the inequalities for density matrices of single-qudit systems. We provide a new class of entanglement witnesses for $d \ot d$ systems (two qudits). Our construction generalizes the one proposed recently by Jafarizadeh et al. for $d=3$ and $d=4$ on the basis of semidefinite linear programming. Moreover, we provide a new class of PPT entangled states detected by our witnesses which generalizes well known family of states constructed by Horodecki et al. for $d=3$.
The entanglement witness is an important and experimentally applicable tool for entanglement detection. In this paper, we provide a nonlinear improvement of any entanglement witness for $2\otimes d$ quantum systems. Compared with any existing entanglement witness, the improved separability criterion only needs two more measurements on local observables. Detailed examples are employed to illustrate the efficiency of the nonlinear improvement for general, optimal and non-decomposable entanglement witnesses.
The approach to extend the notion of entanglement for characterizing the properties of quantum correlations in the state of a single qudit is presented. We establish the entangling power of a unitary operator on a general finite-dimensional bipartite quantum system with and without ancillas, and give relations between the entangling power based on the von Neumann entropy and the entangling power based on the linear entropy. Significantly, we demonstrate that the entangling power of a general controlled unitary operator acting on two equal-dimensional qudits is proportional to the corresponding operator entanglement if linear entropy is adopted as the quantity representing the degree of entanglement. We consider the separability of various joint states of D-dimensional quantum systems, which we call "qudits." We derive two main results: (i) the separability condition for a two-qudit state that is a mixture of the maximally mixed state and a maximally entangled state; (ii) lower and upper bounds on the size of the neighorhood of separable states surrounding the maximally mixed state for N qudits.
Consider a system consisting of n d-dimensional quantum particles (qudits), and suppose that we want to optimize the entanglement between each pair. One can ask the following basic question regarding the sharing of entanglement: what is the largest possible value Emax(n,d) of the minimum entanglement between any two particles in the system? We introduce the notion of hidden quantum correlations. We present the mean values of observables depending on one classical random variable described by the probability distribution in the form of correlation functions of two (three, etc.) random variables described by the corresponding joint probability distributions. We develop analogous constructions for the density matrices of quantum states and quantum observables. We consider examples of four-dimensional Hilbert space corresponding to the "quantum roulette" and "quantum compass."
We present three different matrix bases that can be used to decompose density matrices of d--dimensional quantum systems, so-called qudits: the generalized Gell-Mann matrix basis, the polarization operator basis, and the Weyl operator basis. Such a decomposition can be identified with a vector --the Bloch vector, i.e. a generalization of the well known qubit case-- and is a convenient expression for comparison with measurable quantities and for explicit calculations avoiding the handling of large matrices. We generalize the entanglement swapping scheme originally proposed for two pairs of qubits to an arbitrary number $q$ of systems composed from an arbitrary number $m_j$ of qudits. Each of the system is supposed to be prepared in a maximally entangled state of $m_j$ qudits, while different systems are not correlated at all. We show that when a set $\sum_{j=1}^q a_j$ particles (from each of the $q$ systems $a_j$ particles are measured) are subjected to a generalized Bell-type measurement, the resulting set of $\sum_{j=1}^q (m_j-a_j)$ particles will collapse into a maximally entangled state.
Based on the Liouville-von Neumann equation, we obtain a closed system of equations for the description of a qutrit or coupled qutrits in an arbitrary, time-dependent, external magnetic field. The dependence of the dynamics on the initial states and the magnetic field modulation is studied analytically and numerically. We compare the relative entanglement measure's dynamics in bi-qudits with permutation particle symmetry. We propose a method for generation of entangled photonic states in high dimensions, the so-called qudits, by exploiting quantum correlations of Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) entangled photons, produced via Spontaneous Parametric Down Conversion. Recently, the problem of discriminating multipartite unitary operations by local operations and classical communication (LOCC) has attracted significant attention. The latest work in the literature on this problem showed that two multipartite unitary operations can always be perfectly distinguished by LOCC when a finite number of runs are allowable. We introduce two forms of correlations on two $d$-level (qudit) systems for entanglement detection. The correlations can be measured via experimentally tractable two local measurement settings and their separable bounds are determined by discrete Fourier-based uncertainty relations. They are useful to estimate lower bounds of the Schmidt number in order to clarify generation of a genuine qudit entanglement. We also present inseparable conditions for multi-qudit systems associated with the qudit stabilizer formalism as another role of the correlations on the inseparability problem.
We introduce quantum hybrid gates that act on qudits of different dimensions. In particular, we develop two representative two-qudit hybrid gates (SUM and SWAP) and many-qudit hybrid Toffoli and Fredkin gates. We apply the hybrid SUM gate to generating entanglement, and find that operator entanglement of the SUM gate is equal to the entanglement generated by it for certain initial states. We also show that the hybrid SUM gate acts as an automorphism on the Pauli group for two qudits of different dimension under certain conditions. We propose replacing concurrence by convex-roof extended negativity (CREN) for studying monogamy of entanglement (MoE). We show that all proven MoE relations using concurrence can be rephrased in terms of CREN. Furthermore we show that higher-dimensional (qudit) extensions of MoE in terms of CREN are not disproven by any of the counterexamples used to disprove qudit extensions of MoE in terms of concurrence. A new class of entanglement witnesses (EWs) called reduction type entanglement witnesses is introduced, which can detect some multi-qudit entangeled states including PPT ones with Hilbert space of dimension $d_{_{1}}\otimes d_{_{2}}\otimes...\otimes d_{_{n}}$. Consider a stabilizer state on $n$ qudits, each of dimension $D$ with $D$ being a prime or a squarefree integer, divided into three mutually disjoint sets or parts. Generalizing a result of Bravyi et al. [J. Math. Stochastic and bistochastic matrices providing positive maps for spin states (for qudits) are shown to form semigroups with dense intersection with the Lie groups $IGL(n, \mathbb{R})$ and $GL(n, \mathbb{R})$ respectively. We show that a continuous-variable (CV) qudit can be constructed using quasiorthogonal cat states of a bosonic mode, when the phase encoded in each cat state is chosen appropriately. With the constructed CV qudit and the discrete-variable (DV) qudit encoded with Fock states, we propose an approach to generate the hybrid maximally entangled state of a CV qudit and a DV qudit by using two microwave cavities coupled to a superconducting flux qutrit. We propose a scheme for generating a wide class of entangled qudit-type states of optical field modes at sites separated by noisy medium when only weak optical nonlinearities are available at both sites. We provide an evidence for the validity of strong monogamy inequality of multi-party quantum entanglement using square of convex-roof extended negativity(SCREN). We first consider a large class of multi-qudit mixed state that are in a partially coherent superposition of a generalized W-class state and the vacuum, and provide some useful properties about this class of states. We show that monogamy inequality of multi-qudit entanglement in terms of SCREN holds for this class of states. In a recent paper, Rungta et. al. [Phys. Rev. A, 64, 042315, 2001] introduced a measure of mixed-state entanglement called the I-concurrence for arbitrary pairs of qudits. We find an exact formula for an entanglement measure closely related to the I-concurrence, the I-tangle, for all mixed states of two qudits having no more than two nonzero eigenvalues. We use this formula to provide a tight upper bound for the entanglement of formation for rank-2 mixed states of a qubit and a qudit.
The logarithmic derivative (or, quantum score) of a positive definite density matrix appearing in the quantum Fisher information is discussed, and its exact expression is presented. Then, the problem of estimating the parameters in a class of the Werner-type N-qudit states is studied in the context of the quantum Cramér-Rao inequality. Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) decompositions are employed for analyzing systems of n-qubits, and a qubit with a qudit. Negative eigenvalues, obtained by partial-transpose (PT) plus local unitary transformations (PTU) for one qubit from the whole system, are used for indicating inseparability. For the quantum depolarizing channel with any finite dimension, we compare three schemes for channel identification: unentangled probes, probes maximally entangled with an external ancilla, and maximally entangled probe pairs. This comparison includes cases where the ancilla is itself depolarizing and where the probe is circulated back through the channel before measurement. Compared on the basis of (quantum Fisher) information gained per channel use, we find broadly that entanglement with an ancilla dominates the other two schemes, but only if entanglement is cheap relative to the cost per ch…
Unitary control of qudits can improve the collective spin squeezing of an atomic ensemble. Preparing the atoms in a state with large quantum fluctuations in magnetization strengthens the entangling Faraday interaction. The resulting increase in interatomic entanglement can be converted into metrologically useful spin squeezing. Further control can squeeze the internal atomic spin without compromising entanglement, providing an overall multiplicative factor in the collective squeezing. We model the effects of optical pumping and study the tradeoffs between enhanced entanglement and decoherence.…
