A ring $R$ is called left $k$-cyclic if every left $R$-module is a direct sum of indecomposable modules which are homomorphic image of $_{R}R^k$. In this paper, we give a characterization of left $k$-cyclic rings. As a consequence, we give a characterization of left Köthe rings, which is a generalization of Köthe-Cohen-Kaplansky theorem. We also characterize rings which are Morita equivalent to a basic left $k$-cyclic ring. As a corollary, we show that $R$ is Morita equivalent to a basic left Köthe ring if and only if $R$ is an artinian left multiplicity-free top ring.
In this paper using the connections between some subvarieties of residuated lattices, we investigated some properties of the lattice of ideals in commutative and unitary rings. We give new characterizations for commutative rings $A$ in which $Id(A)$ is an MV-algebra, a Heyting algebra or a Boolean algebra and we establish connections between these types of rings. We are very interested in the finite case and we present summarizing statistics. We show that the lattice of ideals in a finite commutative ring of the form $A=% \mathbb{Z}_{k_{1}}\times \mathbb{Z}_{k_{2}}\times ...\times \mathbb{Z}% …
The connections between the properties of associative rings that are Lie-solvable (Engel, n-Engel, locally finite, respectively) and the properties of their adjoin subgroups are investigated.
Galois closures of commutative rank n ring extensions were introduced by Bhargava and the second author. In this paper, we generalize the construction to the case of non-commutative rings. We show that non-commutative Galois closures commute with base change and satisfy a product formula. As an application, we give a uniform construction of many of the representations arising in arithmetic invariant theory, including many Vinberg representations.
We show that a subdirectly irreducible *-regular ring admits a representation within some inner product space provided so does its ortholattice of projections.
We consider rings whose one-sided ideals are close to automorphism-invariant modules. We study rings in which every (finitely generated) right ideal is automorphism invariant and rings in which every right ideal is a finite direct sum of automorphism invariant ideals. Connections between these classes of rings, $q$-ring and $Σ$-$q$-rings are also considered
We study commutative ring structures on the integral span of rooted trees and $n$-dimensional skew shapes. The multiplication in these rings arises from the smash product operation on monoid representations in pointed sets. We interpret these as Grothendieck rings of indecomposable monoid representations over $\fun$ - the "field" of one element. We also study the base-change homomorphism from $\mt$-modules to $k[t]$-modules for a field $k$ containing all roots of unity, and interpret the result in terms of Jordan decompositions of adjacency matrices of certain graphs.
We introduce an $A_\infty$-algebra structure on the Hochschild cohomology of the endomorphism bimodule of a finite-dimensional representation of an associative algebra. We prove that this structure determines a presentation for non-commutative deformations of the representation. From this, we deduce presentations of universal deformation rings of Galois representations. In turn, we apply these presentations in order to deduce universal deformation rings of Galois pseudorepresentations, supplying a a tangent and obstruction theory for pseudorepresentations. This generalizes the broadly used tan…
This paper aims at the following results: \begin{enumerate} \item The class of all $*$-regular rings forms a variety. \item A subdirectly irreducible $*$-regular ring $R$ is faithfully representable (i.e. isomorphic to a subring of an endomorphisms ring of vector spaces, where the involution is given by adjunction with respect to a scalar product on the vector space) if so is its ortholattice of projections. \end{enumerate} This is a short version of the second author's PhD thesis.
Regarding polynomial functions on a subset $S$ of a non-commutative ring $R$, that is, functions induced by polynomials in $R[x]$ (whose variable commutes with the coefficients), we show connections between, on one hand, sets $S$ such that the integer-valued polynomials on $S$ form a ring, and, on the other hand, sets $S$ such that the set of polynomials in $R[x]$ that are zero on $S$ is an ideal of $R[x]$.
What are all rings $R$ for which $R^*$ (the group of invertible elements of $R$ under multiplication) is an elementary abelian $p$-group? We answer this question for finite-dimensional commutative $k$-algebras, finite commutative rings, modular group algebras, and path algebras. Two interesting byproducts of this work are a characterization of Mersenne primes and a connection to Dedekind's problem.
