We present magnetization measurements on Sr4Ru3O10 as a function of temperature and magnetic field applied perpendicular to the magnetic easy $c$-axis inside the ferromagnetic phase. Peculiar metamagnetism evolves in Sr4Ru3O10 below the ferromagnetic transition $T_{C}$ as a double step in the magnetization at two critical fields $H_{c1}$ and $H_{c2}$. We map the $H-T$ phase diagram with special focus on the temperature range 50\,K $\le T \le T_{C}$. We find that the critical field $H_{c1}(T)$ connects the field and temperature axes of the phase diagram, whereas the $H_{c2}$ boundary starts at 2.8\,T for the lowest temperatures and ends in a critical endpoint at (1\,T; 80\,K). We conclude from the temperature dependence of the ratio $\frac{Hc1}{Hc2}(T)$ that the double metamagnetic transition is an intrinisc effect of the material and it is not caused by sample stacking faults such as twinning or partial in-plane rotation between layers.
We report on high-resolution dc-magnetization (M) measurements on a high-quality single crystal of YbCo2Si2. M was measured down to 0.05K and in fields up to 4T, with the magnetic field oriented along the crystallographic directions [100], [110] and [001] of the tetragonal structure.
The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a pyrochlore lattice under external magnetic field is studied by classical Monte Carlo simulation. The model includes bilinear and biquadratic interactions; the latter effectively describes the coupling to lattice distortions. The magnetization process shows a half-magnetization plateau at low temperatures, accompanied with strong suppression of the magnetic susceptibility. Temperature dependence of the plateau behavior is clarified. Finite-temperature phase diagram under the magnetic field is determined. The results are compared with recent experiment…
Magnetization plateaus in quantum spin systems emerges in two-dimensional frustrated systems such as kagome lattice. The spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on square-kagome lattice is also appropriate for the study of magnetization plateau. Motivated by recent experimental finding of such a square-kagome lattice with nonequivalent three bonds, we investigate the phase diagrams and magnetization plateaus of the lattice by the exact diagonalization method. In addition to previously reported the 1/3 and 2/3 plateaus in the model with two equivalent bonds, we find a new 2/3 plateau whose …
The quasi one-dimensional compound BaCu2Si2O7 demonstrates numerous spin-reorientation transitions both for a magnetic field applied along the easy axis of magnetization, and for a magnetic field applied perpendicular to it. The magnetic phase diagram for all three principal orientations is obtained by magnetization and specific heat measurements. Values of all critical fields and low-temperature values of magnetization jumps are determined for all transitions.
We report simultaneous measurements of the magnetization and the ac susceptibility across the magnetic phase diagram of single-crystal MnSi. In our study we explore the importance of the excitation frequency, excitation amplitude, sample shape, and crystallographic orientation. The susceptibility, dM/dH, calculated from the magnetization, is dominated by pronounced maxima at the transition from the helical to the conical and the conical to the skyrmion lattice phase. The maxima in dM/dH are not tracked by the ac susceptibility, which in addition varies sensitively with the excitation amplitude…
A Ce-based metallic compound CeCoSi with a tetragonal structure exhibits successive phase transitions: the one whose order parameter is unidentified at T_0 = 12 K and the antiferromagnetic one at T_N = 9.4 K. We performed specific heat, magnetoresistivity (MR), and magnetization measurements for a single crystal CeCoSi at low temperatures in magnetic fields B of up to 14 T and constructed detailed magnetic field--temperature phase diagrams for both B || [100] and [001]. The longitudinal MR measured for B || [100] shows a sign change from negative to positive across T_0 = 13 K updated in the pr…
We study the ground state phase diagram of the twisted three-leg spin tube in magnetic fields by the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. The twisted spin tube is composed of triangular unit cells and possesses strong quantum fluctuations under geometrical frustration. We apply the sine square deformation method to remove the strong boundary effects and obtain smooth magnetization curves without steps of finite systems. With the analysis of the magnetization curves and correlation functions we determine the ground state phase diagram consisting of (a) a Tomonaga-Luttinger (TL) l…
By use of mainly the exact diagonalization and the level spectroscopy method, we investigate the ground-state phase diagrams of the $S=1/2$ distorted diamond type quantum spin chain with the monomer-monomer interactions and/or ferromagnetic interactions for the zero magnetic field case, as well as the $M=M_{\rm s}/3$ case and the $M=(2/3)M_{\rm s}$ case, where $M$ is the total magnetization and $M_{\rm s}$ is the saturation magnetization. The magnetization plateau at $M=M_{\rm s}/3$ vanishes in the region where the ferromagnetic interaction is rather strong. The monomer-monomer interaction rem…
The frustrated quantum spin system on the distorted diamond chain lattice is investigated using the numerical diagonalization of finite-size clusters and the level spectroscopy analysis. In the previous work this system was revealed to exhibit the 1/3 magnetization plateau due to two different mechanisms depending on the coupling parameters, and the phase diagram at the 1/3 magnetization was obtained. In the present work it is found that the 1/3 magnetization plateau vanishes for sufficiently large $XY$-like coupling anisotropy. The phase diagram based on the level spectroscopy analysis is als…
Quantum critical (QC) phenomena can be accessed by studying quantum magnets under an applied magnetic field ($B$). The QC points are located at the endpoints of magnetization plateaus and separate gapped and gapless phases. In one dimension, the low-energy excitations of the gapless phase form a Luttinger liquid (LL), and crossover lines bound insulating (plateau) and LL regimes, as well as the QC regime. Alternating ferrimagnetic chains have a spontaneous magnetization at $T=0$ and gapped excitations at zero field. Besides the plateau at the fully polarized (FP) magnetization; due to the gap,…
We study the ground state and the magnetization process of a spin-1/2 $J_1$-$J_2$ model with a plaquette structure by using various methods. For small inter-plaquette interaction, this model is expected to have a spin-gap and we computed the first- and the second excitation energies. If the gap of the lowest excitation closes, the corresponding particle condenses to form magnetic orders. By analyzing the quintet gap and magnetic interactions among the quintet excitations, we find a spin-nematic phase around $J_1/J_2\sim -2$ due to the strong frustration and the quantum effect. When high magnet…
We consider the phase diagram of a spatially anisotropic 2D triangular antiferromagnet in a magnetic field. Classically, the ground state is umbrella-like for all fields, but we show that the quantum phase diagram is much richer and contains a 1/3 magnetization plateau, two commensurate planar states, two incommensurate chiral umbrella phases, and, possibly, a planar state separating the two chiral phases. Our analysis sheds light on several recent experimental findings for the spin-1/2 system Cs_2CuBr_4.
The magnetization process of the $S=1$ antiferromagnetic chain with the single-ion anisotropy $D$ and the biquadratic interaction is investigated using the numerical diagonalization. Both interactions stabilize the 2-magnon Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) phase in the magnetization process. Based on several excitation gaps calculated by the numerical diagonalization, some phase diagrams of the magnetization process are presented. These phase diagrams reveal that the spin nematic dominant TLL phase appears at higher magnetizations for sufficiently large negative $D$.
Sigma-phase Fe47Re53 compound was investigated by means of in-field DC and AC magnetization measurements. Field cooled, MFC, and zero-field cooled, MZFC, DC magnetization curves were recorded in the magnetic field, H, up to 1000 Oe. AC magnetization measurements were performed at the constant frequency of 1465 Hz in the field up to H=500 Oe. Both types of measurements gave evidence in favor of a re-entrant character of magnetism in the studied sample. Based on characteristic temperatures determined from the measurements magnetic phase diagrams have been outlined in the H-T plane. The diagrams …
Magnetic properties of spin $\frac 12$ $J_1-J_2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on body centered cubic lattice are investigated. By using two-time temperature Green's functions, sublattice magnetization and critical temperature depending on the frustration ratio $p=J_2/J_1$ are obtained in both stripe and Néel phase. The analysis of ground state sublattice magnetization and phase diagram indicates the critical end point at $J_2/J_1 =0.714$, in agreement with previous studies.
Magnetic phase diagrams of a tetragonal antiferromagnet TbB$_2$C$_2$ were clarified by temperature and field dependence of magnetization. It is noticeable that the N{é}el temperature in TbB$_2$C$_2$ is anomalously enhanced with magnetic fields, in particular the enhancement reaches 13.5 K for the ${<}1 1 0{>}$ direction at 10 T. The magnetization processes as well as the phase diagrams are well interpreted assuming that there appear field-induced antiferroquadrupolar ordered phases in TbB$_2$C$_2$. The phase diagrams of the AFQ compounds in RB$_2$C$_2$ are systematically understood in terms of…
The ground-state magnetic phase diagram of a spin $S=1/2$ two-leg ladder with alternating rung exchange $J_{\perp}(n)=J_{\perp}[1 + (-1)^{n} δ]$ is studied using the analytical and numerical approaches. In the limit where the rung exchange is dominant, we have mapped the model onto the effective quantum sine-Gordon model with topological term and identified two quantum phase transitions at magnetization equal to the half of saturation value from a gapped to the gapless regime. These quantum transitions belong to the universality class of the commensurate-incommensurate phase transition. We hav…
Frustrated spin ladders show magnetization plateaux depending on the rung-exchange interaction and frustration defined by the ratio of first and second neighbor exchange interactions in each chain. This paper is the first report on its magnetic phase diagram. Using the variational matrix-product state method, we accurately determine phase boundaries. Several kinds of magnetization plateaux are induced by the frustration and the strong correlation among quasi-particles on a lattice. The appropriate description of quasi-particles and their relevant interactions are changed by a magnetic field. W…
We show that, contrary to previous belief, the transition to the antiferromagnetic state of Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ in zero magnetic field does show up in the transverse resistivity. We attribute this to a change in transverse integrals associated to the magnetic ordering, which is evaluated considering hopping of the localized charge. The evolution of the resistivity anomaly associated to the magnetic transition under applied magnetic field is studied. It tracks the magnetic phase diagram, allowing to identify three different lines, notably the spin-flip line, associated with the reordering of the ferr…
We discuss the magnetic phases of the Hubbard model for the honeycomb lattice both in two and three spatial dimensions. A ground state phase diagram is obtained depending on the interaction strength U and electronic density n. We find a first order phase transition between ferromagnetic regions where the spin is maximally polarized (Nagaoka ferromagnetism) and regions with smaller magnetization (weak ferromagnetism). When taking into account the possibility of spiral states, we find that the lowest critical U is obtained for an ordering momentum different from zero. The evolution of the orderi…
Magnetization and its relaxation have been measured in $Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2$ single crystals at various doping levels ranging fromvery underdoped to very overdoped regimes. Sizable magnetization relaxation rate has been observed in all samples, indicating a moderate vortex motion and relatively small characteristic pinning energy. Detailed analysis leads to the following conclusions: (1) A prominent second-peak (SP) effect was observed in the samples around the optimal doping level (x $\approx$ 0.08), but it becomes invisible or very weak in the very underdoped and overdoped samples; (2) Th…
An alternative model for a description of magnetization processes in coupled 2D spin-electron systems has been introduced and rigorously examined using the generalized decoration-iteration transformation and the corner transfer matrix renormalization group method. The model consists of localized Ising spins placed on nodal lattice sites and mobile electrons delocalized over the pairs of decorating sites. It takes into account a hopping term for mobile electrons, the Ising coupling between mobile electrons and localized spins as well as the Zeeman term acting on both types of particles. The gro…
We have performed a detailed transverse magnetization study of the pyrochlore antiferromagnet Gd2Ti2O7. A transverse magnetization of about 10^{-3}M_{sat} is observed in the low-temperature ordered phases. These measurements result in the refinement of the Gd2Ti2O7 phase diagrams. Observation of a transverse magnetization indicates loss of the cubic symmetry in some of the magnetic phases and provides new information for a better understanding of the complicated magnetic ordering of Gd2Ti2O7.
We investigate the magnetization process for a quasi-one-dimensional S=1 antiferromagnet with bond alternation. By combining the density matrix renormalization group method with the interchain mean-field theory, we discuss how the interchain coupling affects the magnetization curve. It is found that the width of the magnetization plateau is considerably reduced upon introducing the interchain coupling. We obtain the phase diagram in a magnetic field. The effect of single-ion anisotropy is also addressed.
High-field magnetization of the spin-$1/2$ antiferromagnet $α$-Cu$_2$V$_2$O$_7$ was measured in pulsed magnetic fields of up to 56 T in order to study its magnetic phase diagram. When the field was applied along the easy axis (the $a$-axis), two distinct transitions were observed at $H_{c1}=6.5$~T and $H_{c2}=18.0$~T. The former is a spin-flop transition typical for a collinear antiferromagnet and the latter is believed to be a spin-flip transition of canted moments. The canted moments, which are induced by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions, anti-align for $H_{c1}<H<H_{c2}$ due to the ani…
High-precision angle-resolved dc magnetization and magnetic torque studies were performed on a single-crystalline sample of URhGe, an orthorhombic Ising ferromagnet with the $c$ axis being the magnetization easy axis, in order to investigate the phase diagram around the ferromagnetic (FM) reorientation transition in a magnetic field near the $b$ axis. We have clearly detected first-order transition in both the magnetization and the magnetic torque at low temperatures, and determined detailed profiles of the wing structure of the three-dimensional $T$-$H_{b}$-$H_{c}$ phase diagram, where $H_{c}…
Cerium diantimonide (CeSb$_2$) is one of a family of rare earth based magnetic materials that exhibit metamagnetism, enabling control of the magnetic ground state through an applied magnetic field. At low temperatures, CeSb$_2$ hosts a rich phase diagram with multiple magnetically ordered phases for many of which the order parameter is only poorly understood. In this paper, we report a study of its metamagnetic properties by Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and magnetization measurements. We use STM measurements to characterize the sample magnetostriction with sub-picometer resolution from …
The magnetization measurements of CexLa1-xRu2Al10 (x = 1, 0.75) under the high magnetic field were performed in order to obtain the information for the long-range order (LRO) in CeRu2Al10. We successfully obtained the magnetic phase diagram of these two compounds for the applied magnetic field along the a-axis which is the magnetization easy axis, and found that the LRO for x = 1 disappears at ~50 T which is the critical field to the paramagnetic phase. For x = 0.75, the critical magnetic field decreases to ~37 T by La substitution. The magnetic phase diagram and magnetization curve are qualit…
We investigate the influence of the carrier density and other parameters on the interlayer exchange in magnetic thin film systems. The system consists of ferromagnetic and non-magnetic layers where the carriers are allowed to move from layer to layer. For the ferromagnetic layers we use the Kondo-lattice model to describe interactions between itinerant electrons and local moments. The electrons' properties are calculated by a Green's function's equation of motion approach while the magnetization of the local moments is determined by a minimization of the free energy. As results we present magn…
Frustrated one-dimensional quantum spin systems are known to exhibit a variety of quantum ground states due to the effects of quantum fluctuations and frustrations. In a spin-1/2 kagome-strip chain, which is one of the frustrated one-dimensional spin systems, many quantum phases have been found. However, the magnetic phase diagrams of the kagome-strip chain under magnetic field have not been fully understood. We construct magnetic phase diagrams at 0, 1/5, 3/10, 1/3, 2/5, 7/15, 3/5, and 4/5 magnetization ratio in the kagome-strip chain and investigate magnetic properties in each phase using th…
The magnetization plateaus of $p$-merized $S=1/2$ XXZ chains are studied for general values of $p$. Two plateau-non-plateau critical lines and one plateau-plateau critical line are found for each value of $p$. The universality class of the plateau-non-plateau transition belongs to Brezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) type and that of the plateau-plateau transition, to the Gaussian type. The critical points are determined by level spectroscopic analysis of the numerical diagonalization results for $4 \le p \le 8$. The multicritical points are calculated using the integral equations based on the…
In this work we present a comprehensive investigation on magnetic and thermodynamic properties of the two-dimensional layered honeycomb system Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$. Using magnetization and specific heat measurements under magnetic field applied along two crystallographic directions we obtain the magnetic phase diagram for both directions. Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$ is a ferromagnet with a Curie temperature $T_C=65$ K and exhibits an easy magnetization axis perpendicular to the structural layers in the $ab$-plane. Under magnetic fields applied parallel to the hard plane $ab$ below the magnetic saturation…
The $S=1/2$ distorted diamond spin chain with the anisotropic ferromagnetic interaction is investigated using the numerical diagonalization and the level spectroscopy analysis. It is known that the system exhibits a plateau of the magnetization curve at the 1/3 of the saturation. The present study indicates that as the anisotropy is varied the quantum phase transition occurs between two different mechanisms of the 1/3 magnetization plateau. The phase diagram with respect to the anisotropy and the ferromagnetic coupling is also presented.
Mn3V2O8 is a magnetic system in which S = 5/2 Mn2+ is found in the kagome staircase lattice. Here we report the magnetic phase diagram for temperatures above 2 K and applied magnetic fields below 9 T, characterized by measurements of the magnetization and specific heat with field along the three unique lattice directions. At low applied magnetic fields, the system first orders magnetically below Tm1 ~ 21 K, and then shows a second magnetic phase transition at Tm2 ~ 15 K. In addition, a phase transition that is apparent in specific heat but not seen in magnetization is found for all three appli…
The ground state phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of a spin-1 bond-alternating Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain with a single-ion anisotropy in longitudinal and transverse magnetic fields are investigated jointly by means of the infinite time evolving block decimation, the linearized tensor renormalization group and the density matrix renormalization group methods. It is found that in the magnetic field-bond alternating ratio plane six phases such as singlet dimer, Haldane, two Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid, 1/2 magnetization plateau and spin polarized phases are identified in a longi…
The magnetic phase diagram of a plaquette dimerized antiferromagnetic system is studied by using a combination of numerical and analytical techniques. For the strongly frustrated regime, series expansions and bond operators techniques are employed to analyze zero magnetization plateau, whereas low energy effective models are used to study the complete magnetization process. The interplay between frustration and dimerization gives rise to a rich plateaus structure that is captured by effective models and corroborated by numerical density matrix renormalization group simulations, in particular t…
In-field DC and AC magnetization measurements were carried out on a sigma-phase Fe55Re45 intermetallic compound aimed at determination of the magnetic phase diagram in the H-T plane. Field cooled, M_FC, and zero-field cooled, M_ZFC, DC magnetization curves were measured in the magnetic field, H, up to 1200 Oe. AC magnetic susceptibility measurements were carried out at a constant frequency of 1465 Hz under DC fields up to H=500 Oe. The obtained results provide evidences for re-entrant magnetism in the investigated sample. The magnetic phase diagrams in the H-T plane have been outlined based on…
This posting contains raw data used for extracting features of the phase diagram and quantum criticality versus magnetic field $B$, temperature $T$ and Rh-doping $x$ that will soon appear in Physical Review Letters, 2004. All of the raw resistivity data is shown while only a selection of the magnetization data is shown for which a sample-out background subtraction was made.
We investigate elastic deformations of spin $S=1/2$ antiferromagnetic $J_1-J_2$ Heisenberg chains, at $M=1/3$ magnetization, coupled to phonons in the adiabatic approximation. Using a bosonization approach we predict the existence of non-homogeneous trimerized magnetoelastic phases. A rich ground state phase diagram is found, including classical and quantum plateau states for the magnetic sector as well as inequivalent lattice deformations within each magnetic phase. The analytical results are supported by exact diagonalization of small clusters.
We report on negative thermal expansion (NTE) in the high-field, half-magnetization plateau phase of the frustrated magnetic insulator CdCr2O4. Using dilatometry, we precisely map the phase diagram at fields of up to 30T, and identify a strong NTE associated with the collinear half-magnetization plateau for B > 27T. The resulting phase diagram is compared with a microscopic theory for spin-lattice coupling, and the origin of the NTE is identified as a large negative change in magnetization with temperature, coming from a nearly-localised band of spin excitations in the plateau phase. These res…
We investigated the classical Shastry-Sutherland lattice under an external magnetic field in order to understand the recently discovered magnetization plateaux in the rare-earth tetraborides compounds RB$_4$. A detailed study of the role of thermal fluctuations was carried out by mean of classical spin waves theory and Monte-Carlo simulations. Magnetization quasi-plateaux were observed at 1/3 of the saturation magnetization at non zero temperature. We showed that the existence of these quasi-plateaux is due to an entropic selection of a particular collinear state. We also obtained a phase diag…
We report the synthesis of CeBi single crystals out of Bi self flux and a systematic study of the magnetic and transport properties with varying temperature and applied magnetic fields. From these $R(T,H)$ and $M(T,H)$ data we could assemble the field-temperature ($H-T$) phase diagram for CeBi and visualize the three dimensional $M-T-H$ surface. In the phase diagram, we identify regions with well defined magnetization values, and identify a new phase region. The magnetoresistance (MR) in the low temperature regime shows, above $6~$T a power-law, non-saturated behavior with large MR ($\sim 3\ti…
EuRhAl4Si2, crystallizes in tetragonal crystal structure and orders antiferromagnetically at ~12 K. The isothermal magnetization along the two principle directions is highly anisotropic despite Eu2+ being an S-state ion. The variation of entropy change, which is a measure of MCE, with field and temperature, calculated from the isothermal magnetization data taken at various temperatures along the principal crystallographic directions present interesting behavior in EuRhAl4Si2. In the magnetically ordered state the entropy change is non-monotonic below spin flip fields; however, in the paramagne…
We investigate the phase diagram of an anisotropic ferrimagnet spin-(1/2, 1) in the presence of a non-commuting (transverse) magnetic field. We find a magnetization plateau for the isotropic case while there is no plateau for the anisotropic ferrimagnet. The magnetization plateau can appear only when the Hamiltonian has the U(1) symmetry in the presence of the magnetic field. The anisotropic model is driven by the magnetic field from the Néel phase for low fields to the spin-flop phase for intermediate fields and then to the paramagnetic phase for high fields. We find the quantum critical poin…
We study the ground-state magnetic phase diagram of a spin S=1/2 antiferromagnetic two-leg ladder in the presence of period two lattice units modulated, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction along the legs. We consider the case of collinear DM vectors and strong rung exchange and magnetic field. In this limit we map the initial ladder model onto the effective spin $σ=1/2$ XXZ chain and study the latter using the continuum-limit bosonization approach. We identified four quantum phase transitions and corresponding critical magnetic fields, which mark transitions from the spin gapped regimes int…
We study a generalized Shastry-Sutherland model for the material SrCu$_2$(BO$_3$)$_2$. Along a line in the parameter space, we can show rigorously that the model has a first order phase transition between Dimerized and Néel-ordered ground states. Furthermore, when a magnetic field is applied in the Dimerized phase, magnetization plateaus develop at commensurate values of the magnetization. We also discuss various aspects of the phase diagram and properties of this model away from this exactly soluble line, which include gap-closing continuous transitions between Dimerized and magnetically orde…
Nernst and magnetization experiments reveal the existence of a large region of the cuprate phase diagram above the $T_c$ curve in which vorticity and weak diamagnetism exist without phase coherence. We discuss the implication that the transition at $T_c$ is caused by the loss of long-range phase coherence caused by spontaneous vortex creation. Below $T_c$, these measurements provide an estimate of the depairing field $H_{c2}$ which is found to be very large (40-100 T depending on doping). We discuss the high-field Nernst and magnetization results, binding energy, and the phase diagram of hole-…
We determine the magnetic phase diagram of the antiferromagnetic(AF) zigzag spin chain in the strongly frustrated region, using the density matrix renormalization group method. We find the magnetization plateau at 1/3 of the full moment accompanying the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the translation, the cusp singularities above and/or below the plateau, and the even-odd effect in the magnetization curve. We also discuss the formation mechanisms of the plateau and cusps briefly.
We report on detailed sucseptibility and magnetization studies in La{1-x}Sr{x}MnO3 for x<=0.2. We arrive at a phase diagram which shows a ferromagnetic ground state for 0.1<=x<=0.15 followed by a canted antiferromagnetic phase at higher temperatures, not in agreement with present canonical conjectures. The phase diagram indicates the importance of structural aspects and superexchange interactions for the magnetic phases at low Sr concentrations.
We performed a systematic study on the properties of CeFeAs$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$O ($0\leq x\leq 1$) by electrical resistivity, magnetization and specific heat measurements. The c-axis lattice constant decreases significantly with increasing P content, suggesting a remarkable chemical pressure. The Fe-3d electrons show the enhanced metallic behavior upon P-doping and undergo a magnetic quantum phase transition around $x \approx 0.4$. Meanwhile, the Ce-4f electrons develop a ferromagnetic order near the same doping level. The ferromagnetic order is vanishingly small around $x=0.9$. The data suggest a …
A spin-orbital chain with different Landé $g$ factors and one-ion anisotropy is studied in the context of the thermodynamical Bethe ansatz. It is found that there exists a magnetization plateau resulting from the different Landé $g$ factors. Detailed phase diagram in the presence of an external magnetic field is presented both numerically and analytically. For some values of the anisotropy, the four-component system undergoes five consecutive quantum phase transitions when the magnetic field varies. We also study the magnetization in various cases, especially its behaviors in the vicinity of t…
Detailed magnetization, specific heat, and $^7$Li nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on single crystals of the hyperhoneycomb Kitaev magnet $β$-Li$_2$IrO$_3$ are reported. At high temperatures, {\cred anisotropy of the magnetization is reflected by the different Curie-Weiss temperatures for different field directions}, in agreement with the combination of a ferromagnetic Kitaev interaction ($K$) and a negative off-diagonal anisotropy ($Γ$) as two leading terms in the spin Hamiltonian. At low temperatures, magnetic fields applied along $a$ or $c$ have only a weak effect on the system…
We study the effects of transverse magnetic fields on the $S=1$ one-dimensional Kondo lattice model with a uniaxial anisotropy using the density matrix renormalization group. The model can be regarded as a simplified one for analyzing the Ising ferromagnetic superconductor URhGe. We find various phases such as ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases, Kondo plateau (KP) phases, Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids, and fully polarized phases. In the KP phase, a pseudoplateau emerges in the magnetization due to strongly bound pairs between the local and the conduction electron spins. This is why we cal…
