We examine the question whether random set attractors for continuous-time random dynamical systems on a connected state space are connected. In the deterministic case, these attractors are known to be connected. In the probabilistic setup, however, connectedness has only been shown under stronger connectedness assumptions on the state space. Under a weak continuity condition on the random dynamical system we prove connectedness of the pullback attractor on a connected space. Additionally, we provide an example of a weak random set attractor of a random dynamical system with even more restrictive continuity assumptions on an even path-connected space which even attracts all bounded sets and which is not connected. On the way to proving connectedness of a pullback attractor we prove a lemma which may be of independent interest and which holds without the assumption that the state space is connected. It states that even though pullback convergence to the attractor allows for exceptional nullsets which may depend on the compact set, these nullsets can be chosen independently of the compact set (which is clear for $σ$-compact spaces but not at all clear for spaces which are not $σ$-compact).
Let $X$ be a Banach space and $f,g:X\rightarrow X$ be contractions. We investigate the set $$ C_{f,g}:=\{w\in X:\m{ the attractor of IFS }\F_w=\{f,g+w\}\m{ is connected}\}. $$ The motivation for our research comes from papers of Mihail and Miculescu, where it was shown that $C_{f,g}$ is a countable union of compact sets, provided $f,g$ are linear bounded operators with $\pa f\pa,\pa g\pa<1$ and such that $f$ is compact. Moreover, in the case when $X$ is finitely dimensional, such sets have been intensively investigated in the last years, especially when $f$ and $g$ are affine maps. As we will …
Somehow, the revised version of our paper \cite{KY} does not appear on journals' home page. Here we present the revised version altered to reflect the corrections and/or additions to that paper. In this note, we consider self-affine attractors that are generated by an integer expanding $n\times n$ matrix (i.e., all of its eigenvalues have moduli $>1$) and a finite set of vectors in ${\Bbb{Z}}^n$. We concentrate on the problem of connectedness for $n\leq 2$. Although, there has been intensive study on the topic recently, this problem is not settled even in the one-dimensional case. We focus on …
We study the connectedness locus N for the family of iterated function systems of pairs of affine-linear maps in the plane (the non-self-similar case). First results on the set N were obtained in joint work with P. Shmerkin (2006). Here we establish rigorous bounds for the set N based on the study of power series of special form. We also derive some bounds for the region of "*-transversality" which have applications to the computation of Hausdorff measure of the self-affine attractor. We prove that a large portion of the set N is connected and locally connected, and conjecture that the entire …
Global random attractors and random point attractors for random dynamical systems have been studied for several decades. Here we introduce two intermediate concepts: $Δ$-attractors are characterized by attracting all deterministic compact sets of Hausdorff dimension at most $Δ$, where $Δ$ is a non-negative number, while cc-attractors attract all countable compact sets. We provide two examples showing that a given random dynamical system may have various different $Δ$-attractors for different values of $Δ$. It seems that both concepts are new even in the context of deterministic dynamical syste…
The aim of this paper is to obtain an estimation of Hausdorff as well as fractal dimensions of random attractors for a class of stochastic partial differential equations with delay. The stochastic equation is first transformed into a delayed random partial differential equation by means of a random conjugation, which is then recast into an auxiliary Hilbert space. For the obtained equation, it is firstly proved that it generates a random dynamical system (RDS) in the auxiliary Hilbert space. Then it is shown that the equation possesses random attractors by a uniform estimate of the solution an…
We provide an example for stabilization by noise. Our approach does not rely on monotonicity arguments due to the presence of higher order differential operators or mixing properties of the system as the noise might be highly degenerate. In the examples a scalar additive noise destroys a high-dimensional random attractor of a PDE on an unbounded domain. In the presence of small noise close to bifurcation all trajectories converge to a single stationary solution.
The asymptotically autonomous robustness of random attractors of stochastic fluid equations defined on \emph{bounded} domains has been considered in the literature. In this article, we initially consider this topic (almost surely and in probability) for a non-autonomous stochastic 2D Navier-Stokes equation driven by additive and multiplicative noise defined on some \emph{unbounded Poincaré domains}. There are two significant keys to study this topic: what is the asymptotically autonomous limiting set of the time-section of random attractors as time goes to negative infinity, and how to show th…
This work explores a synchronization-like phenomenon induced by common noise for continuous-time Markov jump processes given by chemical reaction networks. A corresponding random dynamical system is formulated in a two-step procedure, at first for the states of the embedded discrete-time Markov chain and then for the augmented Markov chain including also random jump times. We uncover a time-shifted synchronization in the sense that -- after some initial waiting time -- one trajectory exactly replicates another one with a certain time delay. Whether or not such a synchronization behaviour occur…
This article concerns the long-term random dynamics in regular spaces for a non-autonomous Navier-Stokes equation defined on a bounded smooth domain $\mathcal{O}$ driven by multiplicative and additive noise. For the two kinds of noise driven equations, we demonstrate the existence of a unique pullback attractor which is backward compact and asymptotically autonomous in $\mathbb{L}^2(\mathcal{O})$ and $\mathbb{H}_0^1(\mathcal{O})$, respectively. The backward-uniform flattening property of the solution is used to prove the backward-uniform pullback asymptotic compactness of the non-autonomous ra…
It is well-known that random attractors of a random dynamical system are generally not unique. We show that for general pullback attractors and weak attractors, there is always a minimal (in the sense of smallest) random attractor which attracts a given family of (possibly random) sets. We provide an example which shows that this property need not hold for forward attractors. We point out that our concept of a random attractor is very general: The family of sets which are attracted is allowed to be completely arbitrary.
The existence of random attractors for singular stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) perturbed by general additive noise is proven. The drift is assumed only to satisfy the standard assumptions of the variational approach to SPDE with compact embeddings in the Gelfand triple and singular coercivity. For ergodic, monotone, contractive random dynamical systems it is proven that the attractor consists of a single random point. In case of real, linear multiplicative noise finite time extinction is obtained. Applications include stochastic generalized fast diffusion equations and stocha…
This paper is devoted to considering the stochastic lattice dynamical systems (SLDS) driven by fractional Brownian motions with Hurst parameter bigger than $1/2$. Under usual dissipativity conditions these SLDS are shown to generate a random dynamical system for which the existence and unique of a random attractor is established. Furthermore, the random attractor is in fact a singleton sets random attractor. Next, we give an erratum because of the misused theory.
The present paper is devoted to the existence of a random attractor for stochastic lattice FitzHugh-Nagumo system driven by $α$-stable Lévy noises under some dissipative conditions.
The existence of random attractors for a large class of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) driven by general additive noise is established. The main results are applied to various types of SPDE, as e.g. stochastic reaction-diffusion equations, the stochastic $p$-Laplace equation and stochastic porous media equations. Besides classical Brownian motion, we also include space-time fractional Brownian Motion and space-time Lévy noise as admissible random perturbations. Moreover, cases where the attractor consists of a single point are considered and bounds for the speed of attraction…
We consider the dynamics of a two-dimensional ordinary differential equation exhibiting a Hopf bifurcation subject to additive white noise and identify three dynamical phases: (I) a random attractor with uniform synchronisation of trajectories, (II) a random attractor with non-uniform synchronisation of trajectories and (III) a random attractor without synchronisation of trajectories. The random attractors in phases (I) and (II) are random equilibrium points with negative Lyapunov exponents while in phase (III) there is a so-called random strange attractor with positive Lyapunov exponent. We a…
In this paper we propose a new model of random graph directed fractals that extends the current well-known model of random graph directed iterated function systems, $V$-variable attractors, and fractal and Mandelbrot percolation. We study its dimensional properties for similarities with and without overlaps. In particular we show that for the two classes of $1$-variable and $\infty$-variable random graph directed attractors we introduce, the Hausdorff and upper box counting dimension coincide almost surely, irrespective of overlap. Under the additional assumption of the uniform strong separati…
We prove the existence of random dynamical systems and random attractors for a large class of locally monotone stochastic partial differential equations perturbed by additive Lévy noise. The main result is applicable to various types of SPDE such as stochastic Burgers type equations, stochastic 2D Navier-Stokes equations, the stochastic 3D Leray-$α$ model, stochastic power law fluids, the stochastic Ladyzhenskaya model, stochastic Cahn-Hilliard type equations, stochastic Kuramoto-Sivashinsky type equations, stochastic porous media equations and stochastic $p$-Laplace equations.
We provide sufficient conditions for synchronization by noise, i.e. under these conditions we prove that weak random attractors for random dynamical systems consist of single random points. In the case of SDE with additive noise, these conditions are also essentially necessary. In addition, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of a minimal weak point random attractor consisting of a single random point. As a result, synchronization by noise is proven for a large class of SDE with additive noise. In particular, we prove that the random attractor for an SDE with drift given by a (m…
The upper semicontinuity of random attractors for non-compact random dynamical systems is proved when the union of all perturbed random attractors is precompact with probability one. This result is applied to the stochastic Reaction-Diffusion with white noise defined on the entire space R^n.
We introduce random towers to study almost sure rates of correlation decay for random partially hyperbolic attractors. Using this framework, we obtain abstract results on almost sure exponential, stretched exponential and polynomial correlation decay rates. We then apply our results to small random perturbations of Axiom A attractors, small perturbations of derived from Anosov partially hyperbolic systems and to solenoidal attractors with random intermittency.
We study a random version of the population-market model proposed by Arlot, Marmi and Papini in Arlot et al. (2019). The latter model is based on the Yoccoz-Birkeland integral equation and describes a time evolution of livestock commodities prices which exhibits endogenous deterministic stochastic behaviour. We introduce a stochastic component inspired from the Black-Scholes market model into the price equation and we prove the existence of a random attractor and of a random invariant measure. We compute numerically the fractal dimension and the entropy of the random attractor and we show its …
We prove the existence of random attractors for a large class of degenerate stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) perturbed by joint additive Wiener noise and real, linear multiplicative Brownian noise, assuming only the standard assumptions of the variational approach to SPDE with compact embeddings in the associated Gelfand triple. This allows spatially much rougher noise than in known results. The approach is based on a construction of strictly stationary solutions to related strongly monotone SPDE. Applications include stochastic generalized porous media equations, stochastic ge…
In this paper we study random iterated function systems. Our main result gives sufficient conditions for an analogue of a well known theorem due to Khintchine from Diophantine approximation to hold almost surely for stochastically self-similar and self-affine random iterated function systems.
The paper is devoted to constructing a random exponential attractor for some classes of stochastic PDE's. We first prove the existence of an exponential attractor for abstract random dynamical systems and study its dependence on a parameter and then apply these results to a nonlinear reaction-diffusion system with a random perturbation. We show, in particular, that the attractors can be constructed in such a way that the symmetric distance between the attractors for stochastic and deterministic problems goes to zero with the amplitude of the random perturbation.
The paper is devoted to the study of the dynamical behavior of the solutions of stochastic FitzHugh-Nagumo lattice equations, driven by fractional Brownian motions, with Hurst parameter greater than $1/2$. Under some usual dissipativity conditions, the system considered here features different dynamics from the same one perturbed by Brownian motion. In our case, the random dynamical system has a unique random equilibrium, which constitutes a singleton sets random attractor.
The global asymptotic behavior of a stochastic Hopfield neural network model (HNNM) with delays is explored by studying the existence and structure of random attractors. It is first proved that the trajectory field of the stochastic delayed HNNM admits an almost sure continuous version, which is compact for $t>τ$ (where $τ$ is the delay) by a delicate construction based on the random semiflow generated by the diffusion term. Then, this version is shown to generate a random dynamical system (RDS) by piece-wise linear approximation, after which the existence of a random absorbing set is obtained…
The aim of this paper is to prove the existence and qualitative property of random attractors for a stochastic nonlocal delayed reaction-diffusion equation (SNDRDE) on a semi-infinite interval with a Dirichlet boundary condition on the finite end. This equation models the spatial-temporal evolution of the mature individuals for a two-stage species whose juvenile and adults both diffuse that lives on a semi-infinite domain and subject to random perturbations. By transforming the SNDRDE into a random evolution equation with delay, by means of a stationary conjugate transformation, we first estab…
In this paper, we deal with random attractors for dynamical systems forced by a deterministic noise. These kind of systems are modeled as skew products where the dynamics of the forcing process are described by the base transformation. Here, we consider skew products over the Bernoulli shift with the unit interval fiber. We study the geometric structure of maximal attractors, the orbit stability and stability of mixing of these skew products under random perturbations of the fiber maps. We show that there exists an open set $\mathcal{U}$ in the space of such skew products so that any skew prod…
Upper semi-continuity of random attractors and existence of invariant measures for nonlocal stochastic Swift-Hohenberg equation with multiplicative noise
Unique existence of solutions to porous media equations driven by continuous linear multiplicative space-time rough signals is proven for initial data in $L^1(\mathcal {O})$ on bounded domains $\mathcal {O}$. The generation of a continuous, order-preserving random dynamical system on $L^1(\mathcal {O})$ and the existence of a random attractor for stochastic porous media equations perturbed by linear multiplicative noise in space and time is obtained. The random attractor is shown to be compact and attracting in $L^{\infty}(\mathcal {O})$ norm. Uniform $L^{\infty}$ bounds and uniform space-time…
In this work, we study continuity and topological structural stability of attractors for nonautonomous random differential equations obtained by small bounded random perturbations of autonomous semilinear problems. First, we study existence and permanence of unstable sets of hyperbolic solutions. Then, we use this to establish lower semicontinuity of nonautonomous random attractors and to show that the gradient structure persists under nonautonomous random perturbations. Finally, we apply the abstract results in a stochastic differential equation and in a damped wave equation with a perturbati…
This paper is concerned with the asymptotic behavior of solutions of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with both non-autonomous deterministic and stochastic terms defined on unbounded domains. We first introduce a continuous cocycle for the equations and then prove the existence and uniqueness of tempered random attractors. We also characterize the structures of the random attractors by complete solutions. When deterministic forcing terms are periodic, we show that the tempered random attractors are also periodic. Since the Sobolev embeddings on unbounded domains are not compact, we …
We study pullback attractors of non-autonomous non-compact dynamical systems generated by differential equations with non-autonomous deterministic as well as stochastic forcing terms. We first introduce the concepts of pullback attractors and asymptotic compactness for such systems. We then prove a sufficient and necessary condition for existence of pullback attractors. We also introduce the concept of complete orbits for this sort of systems and use these special solutions to characterize the structures of pullback attractors. For random systems containing periodic deterministic forcing terms…
We study how the dynamics of a class of discrete dynamical system models for neuronal networks depends on the connectivity of the network. Specifically, we assume that the network is an Erdős-R\'{enyi} random graph and analytically derive scaling laws for the average lengths of the attractors and transients under certain restrictions on the intrinsic parameters of the neurons, that is, their refractory periods and firing thresholds. In contrast to earlier results that were reported in \cite{TAWJ}, here we focus on the connection probabilities near the phase transition where the most complex dy…
Asymptotic random dynamics of weak solutions for a damped stochastic wave equation with the nonlinearity of arbitrarily large exponent and the additive noise on $\mathbb{R}^n$ is investigated. The existence of a pullback random attractor is proved in a parameter region with a breakthrough in proving the pullback asymptotic compactness of the cocycle with the quasi-trajectories defined on the integrable function space of arbitrary exponent and on the unbounded domain of arbitrary dimension.
In this paper, we study the existence, stability and bifurcation of random complete and periodic solutions for stochastic parabolic equations with multiplicative noise. We first prove the existence and uniqueness of tempered random attractors for the stochastic equations and characterize the structures of the attractors by random complete solutions. We then examine the existence and stability of random complete quasi-solutions and establish the relations of these solutions and the structures of tempered attractors. When the stochastic equations are incorporated with periodic forcing, we obtain…
This paper is devoted to the study of the asymptotic dynamics of the stochastic damped sine-Gordon equation with homogeneous Neumann boundary condition. It is shown that for any positive damping and diffusion coefficients, the equation possesses a random attractor, and when the damping and diffusion coefficients are sufficiently large, the random attractor is a one-dimensional random horizontal curve regardless of the strength of noise. Hence its dynamics is not chaotic. It is also shown that the equation has a rotation number provided that the damping and diffusion coefficients are sufficient…
The dichotomy spectrum is introduced for linear mean-square random dynamical systems, and it is shown that for finite-dimensional mean-field stochastic differential equations, the dichotomy spectrum consists of finitely many compact intervals. It is then demonstrated that a change in the sign of the dichotomy spectrum is associated with a bifurcation from a trivial to a non-trivial mean-square random attractor.
