The local induction equation, approximately describing dynamics of a quantized vortex filament in a trapped Bose-Einstein condensate in the Thomas-Fermi regime on a spatially nonuniform density background $ρ({\bf r})$ and taking dimensionless form ${\mathbf R}_t=\varkappa {\mathbf b}+[\nabla\lnρ({\mathbf R})\times {\boldsymbol τ}]$ (where $\varkappa$ is a local curvature of the filament, ${\mathbf b}$ is the unit binormal vector, and ${\boldsymbol τ}$ is the unit tangent vector), is shown to admit a finite-dimensional reduction if the density profile is an isotropic Gaussian, $ρ\propto\exp(-|{\bf r}|^2/2)$. The reduction corresponds to a geometrically perfect vortex ring centered at position ${\bf A}(t)$, with orientation and size both determined by a vector ${\bf B}(t)$. Parameters ${\bf A}$ and ${\bf B}$ exhibit the same dynamics as velocity and position of a Newtonian particle do in 3D: $\dot {\bf A}={\bf B}/|{\bf B}|^2-{\bf B}$, and $\dot {\bf B}={\bf A}$.
Three coaxial quantized vortex rings in a Bose-Einstein condensate exhibit aperiodic leapfrogging dynamics. It is found that such circular vortex rings are dynamically unstable against deformation breaking axial rotational symmetry. The dynamics of the system are analyzed using the Gross-Pitaevskii and vortex-filament models. The dependence of the instability on the initial arrangement of the vortex rings is investigated. The system is found to be significantly unstable for a specific configuration of the three vortex rings.

We study the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless mechanism for vortex-antivortex pair formation in two-dimensional superfluids for nonequilibrium condensates. Our numerical study is based on a classical field model for driven-dissipative quantum fluids that is applicable to polariton condensates. We investigate the critical noise needed to create vortex-antivortex pairs in the systems, starting from a state with uniform phase. The dependence of the critical noise on the nonequilibrium and energy relaxation parameters is analyzed in detail.
We discuss the effect of anomalous quantum-reflection of Bose-Einstein condensates as a screening effect, that is created by the condensate itself. We derive an effective, time-independent single-mode approach, that allows us to define different paths of reflection. We compare our theory with experimental results.
Entanglement spectrum: Identification of the transition from vortex-liquid to vortex-lattice state in a weakly interacting rotating Bose-Einstein condensate
We find a novel topological defect in a spin-nematic superfluid theoretically. A quantized vortex spontaneously breaks its axisymmetry, leading to an elliptic vortex in nematic-spin Bose-Einstein condensates with small positive quadratic Zeeman effect. The new vortex is considered the Joukowski transform of a conventional vortex. Its oblateness grows when the Zeeman length exceeds the spin healing length. This structure is sustained by balancing the hydrodynamic potential and the elasticity of a soliton connecting two spin spots, which are observable by in situ magnetization imaging. The theor…
The physics of quantized vortex excitations in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates has been extensively studied in recent years.Although simple vortex lines are relatively easy to create, control, and measure in experiments, it is a lot more difficult to do the same for vortex ring structures. Here we suggest and explore a method for generating and controlling superfluid vortex rings, vortex ring lattices, and other three dimensional vortex structures in toroidally-trapped superfluid Bose--Einstein condensates by using the artificial magnetic field produced by an optical nanofiber. The presence of …
Preparation of molecular quantum gas promises novel applications including quantum control of chemical reactions, precision measurements, quantum simulation and quantum information processing. Experimental preparation of colder and denser molecular samples, however, is frequently hindered by fast inelastic collisions that heat and deplete the population. Here we report the formation of two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) of spinning $g-$wave molecules by inducing pairing interactions in an atomic condensate. The trap geometry and the low temperature of the molecules help reducing …
