Evolution of the bulk viscous matter dominated universe has been analysed using the full causal, Israel-Stewart theory for the evolution of bulk viscous pressure in the context of recent acceleration of the universe. The form of bulk viscosity is taken as $ξ=αρ^{1/2}. $ We obtained analytical solutions for the Hubble parameter and scale factor of the universe. The model parameters have been computed using the Type Ia supernovae observational data. The evolution of the prominent cosmological parameters were obtained. The age of the universe for the best estimated model parameters is found to be less than observational value. The viscous matter behaves like stiff fluid in the early evolutionary phase and then evolves to a negative pressure fluid in the later phase. The equation of state is found to be stabilized with value $ω>-1$ and thus, the model is not showing any of the phantom behaviour during the evolution. The local as well as generalized second law of thermodynamics are satisfied in this model, while it was shown by many that the local second law is breaking in the Eckart formalism approach. The statefinder geometric diagnostic shows that the present model is distinct from the standard $Λ$CDM model of the universe. One of the marked deviation seen in this model compared to a corresponding model using Eckart approach is that the bulk viscosity decreases with expansion of the universe, while in it increases from negative value in the early universe towards positive values values in the Eckart formalism.
We consider the dynamics of a causal bulk viscous cosmological fluid filled constantly decelerating Bianchi type I space-time. The matter component of the Universe is assumed to satisfy a linear barotropic equation of state and the state equation of the small temperature Boltzmann gas. The resulting cosmological models satisfy the condition of smallness of the viscous stress. The time evolution of the relaxation time, temperature, bulk viscosity coefficient and comoving entropy of the dissipative fluid is also obtained.
In this paper we have investigated an LRS Bianchi I anisotropic cosmological model of the universe by taking time varying $G$ and $Λ$ in the presence of bulk viscous fluid source described by full causal non-equilibrium thermodynamics. We obtain a cosmological constant as a decreasing function of time and for $m, n > 0$, the value of cosmological ``constant'' for this model is found to be small and positive which is supported by the results from recent supernovae observations.
We study the classical flat full causal bulk viscous FRW cosmological model through the factorization method. The method shows that there exists a relationship between the viscosity parameter $s$ and the parameter $γ$ entering the equations of state of the model. Also, the factorization method allows to find some new exact parametric solutions for different values of the viscous parameter $s$. Special attention is given to the well known case $s=1/2$, for which the cosmological model admits scaling symmetries. Furthermore, some exact parametric solutions for $s=1/2$ are obtained through the Li…
The renormalization group method is applied to the study of homogeneous and flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker type Universes, filled with a causal bulk viscous cosmological fluid. The starting point of the study is the consideration of the scaling properties of the gravitational field equations, of the causal evolution equation of the bulk viscous pressure and of the equations of state. The requirement of scale invariance imposes strong constraints on the temporal evolution of the bulk viscosity coefficient, temperature and relaxation time, thus leading to the possibility of obtaining the bulk v…
In this paper we study the evolution of a LRS Bianchi I Universe, filled with a bulk viscous cosmological fluid in the presence of time varying constants "but" taking into account the effects of a c-variable into the curvature tensor. We find that the only physical models are those which ``constants'' $G$ and $c$ are growing functions on time $t$, while the cosmological constant $Λ$ is a negative decreasing function. In such solutions the energy density obeys the ultrastiff matter equation of state i.e. $ω=1$.
We study the evolution of a flat Friedmann-Robertson- Walker Universe, filled with a bulk viscous cosmological fluid, in the presence of variable gravitational and cosmological constants. The dimensional analysis of the model suggest a proportionality between the bulk viscous pressure of the dissipative fluid and the energy density. With the use of this assumption and with the choice of the standard equations of state for the bulk viscosity coefficient, temperature and relaxation time, the general solution of the field equations can be obtained, with all physical parameters having a power-law …
The aim of this paper is to investigate the dynamical aspects of charged viscous cylindrical source by using Misner approach. To this end, we have considered the more general charged dissipative fluid enclosed by the cylindrical symmetric spacetime. The dissipative nature of the source is due to the presence of dissipative variables in the stress-energy tensor. The dynamical equations resulting from such charged cylindrical dissipative source have been coupled with the causal transport equations for heat flux, shear and bulk viscosity, in the context of Israel-Steward theory. In this case, we …
We study the evolution of a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker Universe, filled with a bulk viscous cosmological fluid, in the presence of time varying ``constants''. The dimensional analysis of the model suggests a proportionality between the bulk viscous pressure of the dissipative fluid and the energy density. On using this assumption and with the choice of the standard equations of state for the bulk viscosity coefficient, temperature and relaxation time, the general solution of the field equations can be obtained, with all physical parameters having a power-law time dependence. The symmetry …
We analyze the dynamics of a Bianchi I cosmology in the presence of a viscous fluid, causally regularized according to the Lichnerowicz approach. We show how the effect induced by shear viscosity is still able to produce a matter creation phenomenon, meaning that also in the regularized theory we address, the Universe is emerging from a singularity with a vanishing energy density value. We discuss the structure of the singularity in the isotropic limit, when bulk viscosity is the only retained contribution. We see that, as far as viscosity is not a dominant effect, the dynamics of the isotropi…
The general solution of the gravitational field equations for a full causal bulk viscous stiff cosmological fluid, with bulk viscosity coefficient proportional to the energy density to the power 1/4, is obtained in the flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker geometry. The solution describes a non-inflationary Universe, which starts its evolution from a singular state. The time variation of the scale factor, deceleration parameter, viscous pressure, viscous pressure-thermodynamic pressure ratio, comoving entropy and Ricci and Kretschmann invariants is considered in detail.
The behaviour of solutions to the Einstein equations with a causal viscous fluid source is investigated. In this model we consider a spatially flat Robertson-Walker metric, the bulk viscosity coefficient is related to the energy density as $ζ= αρ^{m}$, and the relaxation time is given by $ζ/ρ$. In the case $m = 1/2$ we find the exact solutions and we verify whether they satisfy the energy conditions. Besides, we study analytically the asymptotic stability of several families of solutions for arbitrary $m$. We find that the qualitative asymptotic behaviour in the far future is not altered by re…
The Misner and Sharp approach to the study of gravitational collapse is extended to the viscous dissipative case in, both, the streaming out and the diffusion approximations. The dynamical equation is then coupled to causal transport equations for the heat flux, the shear and the bulk viscosity, in the context of Israel--Stewart theory, without excluding the thermodynamics viscous/heat coupling coefficients. The result is compared with previous works where these later coefficients were neglected and viscosity variables were not assumed to satisfy causal transport equations. Prospective applica…
In this paper we have considered an anisotropic space-time model of the Universe in presence of Brans-Dicke (BD) scalar field $ϕ$, causal viscous fluid and barotropic fluid. We have shown that irrespective of fluid the causality theory provides late time acceleration of the Universe. If the deceleration occurs in radial direction and acceleration occurs in transverse direction then the anisotropic Universe will accelerate for a particular condition of the power law representation of the scale factors.
We consider the evolution of a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker Universe, filled with a causal bulk viscous cosmological fluid, in the presence of variable gravitational and cosmological constants. The basic equation for the Hubble parameter, generalizing the evolution equation in the case of constant gravitational coupling and cosmological term, is derived, under the supplementary assumption that the total energy of the Universe is conserved. By assuming that the cosmological constant is proportional to the square of the Hubble parameter and a power law dependence of the bulk viscosity coeffic…
We consider a cosmological model dominated by bulk viscous matter with total bulk viscosity coefficient proportional to the velocity and acceleration of the expansion of the universe in such a way that $ζ=ζ_{0}+ζ_{1}\frac{\dot{a}}{a}+ζ_{2}\frac{\ddot{a}}{\dot{a}}.$ We show that there exist two limiting conditions in the bulk viscous coefficients, ($ζ_{0}$, $ζ_{1}$, $ζ_{2}$) which corresponds to a universe having a Big-Bang at the origin, followed by an early decelerated epoch and then making a smooth transition into an accelerating epoch. We have constrained the model using the type Ia Superno…
We study a closed model of the universe filled with viscous fluid and quintessence matter components in a Brans-Dicke type cosmological model. The dynamical equations imply that the universe may look like an accelerated flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe at low redshift. We consider here dissipative processes which follow a causal thermodynamics. The theory is applied to viscous fluid inflation, where accepted values for the total entropy in the observable universe is obtained.
The truncated Israel-Stewart theory of irreversible thermodynamics is used to describe the bulk viscous pressure and the anisotropic stress in a class of spatially homogeneous viscous fluid cosmological models. The governing system of differential equations is written in terms of dimensionless variables and a set of dimensionless equations of state is utilized to complete the system. The resulting dynamical system is then analyzed using standard geometric techniques. It is found that the presence of anisotropic stress plays a dominant role in the evolution of the anisotropic models. In particu…
In this paper, we have investigated the late time cosmic acceleration issue in the context of $f(R,T)$ gravity. The matter field is considered to be that of viscous fluid. The model has been framed as a mathematical formalism and the effect of viscous fluid on the cosmic expansion has been shown. The equation of state parameter indicates the quintessence behaviour of the Universe at late time. The theoretical results obtained here shows its alignment with the cosmological observations result.
The possibility that the present acceleration of the universe is driven by a kind of viscous fluid is exploited. At background level this model is similar to the generalized Chaplygin gas model (GCGM). But, at perturbative level, the viscous fluid exhibits interesting properties. In particular the oscillations in the power spectrum that plagues the GCGM are not present. Possible fundamental descriptions for this viscous dark energy are discussed.
Motivated by two seminal models proposed to explain the Universe acceleration, this paper is devoted to study a hybrid model which is constructed through a generalized Chaplygin gas with the addition of a bulk viscosity. We call the model a Viscous Generalized Chaplygin Gas (VGCG) and its free parameters are constrained through several cosmological data like the Observational Hubble Parameter, Type Ia Supernovae, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations, Strong Lensing Systems, HII Galaxies and using Joint Bayesian analysis. In addition, we implement a Om-diagnostic to analyze the VGCC dynamics and its di…
We consider cosmological scenarios originating from a single imperfect fluid with bulk viscosity and apply Eckart's and both the full and the truncated Müller-Israel-Stewart's theories as descriptions of the non-equilibrium processes. Our principal objective is to investigate if the dynamical properties of Dark Matter and Dark Energy can be described by a single viscous fluid and how such description changes when a causal theory (Müller-Israel-Stewart's, both in its full and truncated forms) is taken into account instead of Eckart's non-causal theory. To this purpose, we find numerical solutio…
Causal dissipative model is a plausible choice to explain the late accelerated epoch of universe. At the same time $Λ$CDM is considered to be standard model to explain the cosmological data corresponding to the late evolution of the universe. We consider a bulk viscus model in which the dissipation is driven by the bulk viscosity $ζ=αρ^{1/2}$, described using the full causal Israel-Stewart theory. We computed the model parameters using the latest observational data (Pantheon). We contrasted this model with $Λ$CDM model for the late accelerated phase using Bayesian inference method. The Bayes f…
An isotropic and homogeneous cosmological model with a source of dark energy is studied. That source is simulated with a viscous relativistic fluid with minimal causal correction. In this model the restrictions on the parameters coming from the following conditions are analized: a) energy density without singularities along time, b) scale factor increasing with time, c) universe accelerated at present time, d) state equation for dark energy with "w" bounded and close to -1. It is found that those conditions are satified for the following two cases. i) When the transport coefficient (τ_{Π}), as…
We consider a Friedmann model of the universe with bulk viscous matter and radiation as the cosmic components. We study the asymptotic properties in the equivalent phase space by considering the three cases for the bulk viscous coefficient as (i) $ζ= ζ_{0}$, a constant (ii) $ζ= ζ_{0} + ζ_{1}\frac{\dot{a}}{a}$, depending on velocity of the expansion of the universe and (iii) $ζ= ζ_{0} + ζ_{1}\frac{\dot{a}}{a} + ζ_{2}\frac{\ddot{a}}{\dot{a}}$, depending both on velocity and acceleration of the expansion of the universe. It is found that all the three cases predicts the late acceleration of the u…
We consider inhomogeneous viscous fluids in flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. We analyze different kinds of such fluids and investigate the possibility to reproduce the current cosmic acceleration providing a different future evolution with respect to the Cosmological Constant case. In particular, we study the presence of finite-future time singularities. We also discuss a general class of "integrable" viscous fluid models whose bulk viscosities obey to a common differential equation.
Some bulk viscous general solutions are found for domain walls in Lyra geometry in the plane symmetric inhomogeneous spacetime. Expressions for the energy density and pressure of domain walls are derived in both cases of uniform and time varying displacement field $β$. The viscosity coefficient of bulk viscous fluid is assumed to be a power function of mass density. Some physical consequences of the models are also given. Finally, the geodesic equations and acceleration of the test particle are discussed.
The review of basic cosmological properties of four-dimensional F(R)-gravity, including FRW equations of motion and its accelerating solutions, generalized fluid and scalar-tensor representation of the theory is done. Cosmological reconstruction equation is written and conditions for stability of cosmological solution are discussed. The overview of realistic F(R)-models unifying inflation with dark energy epoch is made. The avoidance of finite-time future singularities in such theories via the introduction of R^2-term is studied. New realistic non-singular F(R)-gravity unifying early-time infl…
The research on relativistic universe models with viscous fluids is reviewed. Viscosity may have been of significance during the early inflationary era, and may also be of importance for the late time evolution of the Universe. Bulk viscosity and shear viscosity cause exponential decay of anisotropy, while nonlinear viscosity causes power-law decay of anisotropy. We consider also the influence from turbulence, in connection with future singularities of the universe (Big Rip and Little Rip). Finally, we review some recent developments of causal cosmology theories.
We present the first numerical analysis of causal, stable first-order relativistic hydrodynamics with ideal gas microphysics, based in the formalism developed by Bemfica, Disconzi, Noronha, and Kovtun (BDNK theory). The BDNK approach provides definitions for the conserved stress-energy tensor and baryon current, and rigorously proves causality, local well-posedness, strong hyperbolicity, and linear stability (about equilibrium) for the equations of motion, subject to a set of coupled nonlinear inequalities involving the undetermined model coefficients (the choice for which defines the "hydrody…
In this work we present an analysis of the phantom zone in a causal viscous cosmology from a thermodynamic point of view. In this description we consider a chemical potential and the approach of irreversible processes. We assume a flat universe filled with a single dissipative fluid described by a barotropic equation of state, $p = ωρ$. This model allows to construct a negative chemical potential for the phantom regime but also this construction allows us to have positive definite temperature and entropy.
The effects of bulk viscosity are examined for inflationary dynamics in which dissipation and thermalization are present. A complete stability analysis is done for the background inflaton evolution equations, which includes both inflaton dissipation and radiation bulk viscous effects. Three representative approaches of bulk viscous irreversible thermodynamics are analyzed: the Eckart noncausal theory, the linear and causal theory of Israel-Stewart and a more recent nonlinear and causal bulk viscous theory. It is found that the causal theories allow for larger bulk viscosities before encounteri…
A dissipative model of the Universe based on the causal relativistic truncated Israel-Stewart theory is analysed in the context of recent accelerated expansion of the Universe. The bulk viscosity and relaxation time are taken as $ξ=αρ^s$ and $τ=\fracα{εγ(2-γ)}ρ^{s-1}$ respectively. For $s=1/2,$ we found an analytical solution for the Hubble parameter of the model. We have estimated the model parameters by treating $γ=1$ and $γ$ as a free parameter using the latest cosmological data. The model predicts a prior decelerated phase and an end de Sitter phase as in the standard $Λ$CDM model. The dyn…
It is shown that a present acceleration with a past deceleration is a possible solution of the Friedmann equation by considering the Universe as a mixture of a scalar with a matter field and by including a non-equilibrium pressure term in the energy-momentum tensor. The dark energy density decays more slowly with respect to the time than the matter energy density does. The inclusion of the non-equilibrium pressure leads to a less pronounced decay of the matter field with a shorter period of past deceleration.
This paper is devoted to study the accelerated expansion of the universe by exploring the Brans-Dicke parameter in different eras. For this purpose, we take FRW universe model with viscous fluid (without potential) and Bianchi type I universe model with barotropic fluid (with and without potential). We evaluate deceleration parameter as well as Brans-Dicke parameter to explore cosmic acceleration. It is concluded that accelerated expansion of the universe can also be achieved for higher values of the Brans-Dicke parameter in some cases.
We study a full causal bulk viscous cosmological model with flat FRW symmetries and where the ``constants'' $G,c$ and $Λ$ vary. We take into account the possible effects of a $c-$variable into the curvature tensor in order to outline the field equations. Using the Lie method we find the possible forms of the ``constants'' $G$ and $c$ that make integrable the field equations as well as the equation of state for the viscous parameter. It is found that $G,c$ and $Λ$ follow a power law solution verifying the relationship $G/c^{2}=κ.$ Once these possible forms have been obtained we calculate the th…
In this paper we have considered a flat FLRW universe with bulk viscous Zel'dovich as the cosmic component. Being considered the bulk viscosity as per the Eckart formalism, we have analyzed the evolution of the Hubble parameter and constrained the model with the Type Ia Supernovae data thus extracting the constant bulk viscous parameter and present Hubble parameter. Further we have analyzed the scale factor, equation of state and deceleration parameter. The model predicts the late time acceleration and is also compatible with the age of the universe as given by the oldest globular clusters. We…
We revisit the causal backreaction paradigm, in which the need for Dark Energy is eliminated via the generation of an apparent cosmic acceleration from the causal flow of inhomogeneity information coming in towards each observer from distant structure-forming regions. This second-generation formalism incorporates "recursive nonlinearities": the process by which already-established metric perturbations will then act to slow down all future flows of inhomogeneity information. Here, the long-range effects of causal backreaction are now damped, weakening its impact for models that were previously …
Many have speculated about the presence of a stiff fluid in very early stage of the universe. Such a stiff fluid was first introduced by Zel'dovich. Recently the late acceleration of the universe was studied by taking bulk viscous stiff fluid as the dominant cosmic component, but the age predicted by such a model is less than the observed value. We consider a flat universe with viscous stiff fluid and decaying vacuum energy as the cosmic components and found that the model predicts a reasonable background evolution of the universe with de Sitter epoch as end phase of expansion. More over the m…
A phenomenological formalism is presented in which the apparent acceleration of the universe is generated by cosmic structure formation, without resort to Dark Energy, modifications to gravity, or a local void. The observed acceleration results from the combined effect of innumerable local perturbations due to individually virializing systems, overlapping together in a smoothly-inhomogeneous adjustment of the FRW metric, in a process governed by the causal flow of inhomogeneity information outward from each clumped system. After noting how common arguments claiming to limit backreaction are ph…
The incorporation of bulk viscosity process to General Relativity leads to the appearance of nonsingular backgrounds that, at early and late times, depict an accelerated universe. These backgrounds could be analytically calculated and mimicked, in the context of General Relativity, by a single scalar field whose potential could also be obtained analytically. We will show that, we can build viable backgrounds that, at early times, depict an inflationary universe leading to a power spectrum of cosmological perturbations which match with current observational data, and after leaving the inflation…
Recent studies indicate that, near equilibrium condition could not be maintained for bulk viscous matter models during the accelerated expansion of the universe in the context of Einstein's gravity, without including the cosmological constant. But from our investigation in $f(R,T)$ gravity, it is observed that, this condition can be satisfied in this modified gravity regime by properly constraining the coupling and viscous parameters. Accordingly, strict constraints are developed for free parameters in bulk viscous models in $f(R,T)=R+2λT$ gravity based on fulfillment near equilibrium conditio…
Dissipative features of dark matter affect its clustering properties and could lead to observable consequences for the evolution of large--scale structure. We analyse the evolution of cold dark matter density perturbations allowing for the possibility of bulk viscous pressure in a causal dissipative theory. Our analysis employs a Newtonian approximation for cosmological dynamics and the transport properties of bulk viscosity are described by the Israel--Stewart theory. We obtain a third order evolution equation for density perturbations. For some parameter values the density contrast can be su…
In this article, we attempt to describe cosmic late-time acceleration of the universe in the framework of $f(R,L_m)$ gravity by using an effective equation of state when the account is taken of bulk viscosity. We presume a non-linear $f(R,L_m)$ functional form, specifically, $f(R,L_m)=\frac{R}{2}+L_m^α$, where $α$ is free model parameter. We obtain the exact solution of our bulk viscous matter dominated $f(R,L_m)$ model, and then we utilize the combined $H(z)+Pantheon+Analysis$ data sets to estimate the best fit values of the free parameters of our model. Then we characterize the behaviour of …
We have studied bulk viscosity in the modified $f(Q, T)$ gravity theory formalism, where $Q$ represents the non-metricity and $T$ denotes the trace of energy-momentum tensor within a flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker metric (FLRW). Here, we have explicitly considered the effective equation of state, which includes a bulk viscosity term, and obtained the exact solutions by assuming a specific form of $f(Q, T)=αQ+βT$, where $α$ and $β$ are constants. Furthermore, we have found constraints on the model parameters with some external datasets, such as the revised Hubble datasets consisting o…
The article communicates an alternative route to suffice the late-time acceleration considering a bulk viscous fluid with viscosity coefficient $ζ=ζ_{0}+ ζ_{1} H + ζ_{2} H^{2}$, where $ζ_{0}, ζ_{1}, ζ_{2}$ are constants in the framework of $f(R,T)$ modified gravity. We presume the $f(R,T)$ functional form to be $f=R+2αT$ where $α$ is a constant. We then solve the field equations for the Hubble Parameter and study the cosmological dynamics of kinematic variables such as deceleration, jerk, snap and lerk parameters as a function of cosmic time. We observe the deceleration parameter to be highly …
In this paper it has been shown that the neutrino bulk viscous stresses can give rise to the late time acceleration of the universe. It is found that a number of spatially flat FRW models with a negative deceleration parameter can be constructed using neutrino viscosity and one of them mimics a $Λ$CDM model. This does not require any exotic dark energy component or any modification of gravity.
