We study the most general renormalizable couplings containing Higgs $H(10)$, $D(120)$, $\overlineΔ(\overline{126})+ Δ(126)$, $A(45)$, $E(54)$ and $Φ(210)$ in the supersymmetric SO(10) models. The Clebsch-Gordan Coefficients are calculated using the maximal subgroup $SU(5)\times U(1)_X$.
In the Supersymmetric SU(5) Model of Unification with the Missing Partner Mechanism, we present a renormalizable model using the Georgi-Jarlsog mechanism to describe the fermion masses and mixing. At the meantime the proton decay rates are also suppressed to satisfy the experimental data.
A realistic grand unified model has never been constructed in the literature due to three major difficulties: the seesaw mechanism without spoiling gauge coupling unification, the doublet-triplet splitting and the proton decay suppression. We propose a renormalizable supersymmetric SO(10) model with all these difficulties solved naturally by imposing an extra discrete symmetry.
We propose a renormalizable supersymmetric SO(10) model where the doublet-triplet splitting problem is solved using the Dimopoulos-Wilczek mechanism. An unwanted coupling is forbidden through a filter sector. To suppress proton decay without spoiling gauge coupling unification, there is a problem in the weak doublets which requires further improvements.
We solve the Goldstone modes in the renormalizable SUSY SO(10) model with general couplings. The Goldstones are expressed by the Vacuum Expectation Values and the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients of relevant symmetries without explicit dependence on the parameters of the model.
We examine a renormalizable SUSY SO(10) model without fine-tuning. We show how to construct MSSM doublets and to predict proton decay. We find that in the minimal set of Yukawa couplings the model is consistent with the experiments, while including $120_H$ to fit the data there are inconsistencies.
We analyze all possible extensions of the recently proposed minimal renormalizable SUSY SU(5) grand unified model with the inclusion of an additional A4 flavor symmetry. We find that there are five possible cases but only one of them is phenomenologically interesting. We develop in detail such case and we show how the fermion masses and mixing angles come out. As a prediction we obtain the neutrino masses of order of 0.1 eV with an inverted hierarchy.
We present a construction kit for calculating two-loop beta functions in N=1 supersymmetric theories for the operators of the superpotential using supergraph techniques. In particular, it allows to compute the beta functions for every desired, even higher dimensional, operator of the superpotential from the wavefunction renormalization constants of the theory. We apply this method to calculate the two-loop beta functions for the lowest-dimensional effective neutrino mass operator in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and for the Yukawa couplings in the MSSM extended by singlet su…
A complete realistic model based on the supersymmetric version of $E_6$ is presented. It consists of three copies of matter 27, and a Higgs sector made of $2\times(27+\bar{27})+351'+\bar{351'}$ representations. An analytic solution to the equations of motion is found which spontaneously breaks the gauge group into the Standard Model. The light fermion mass matrices are written down explicitly as non-linear functions of three Yukawa matrices. This contribution is based on Ref. [1].
It is a well-known fact that the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric SU(5) model is ruled out assuming superpartner masses of the order of a few TeV. Giving up this constraint and assuming only SU(5) boundary conditions for the soft terms, we find that the model is still alive. The viable region of the parameter space typically features superpartner masses of order $10^2$ to $10^4$ TeV, with tan beta values between 2 and 5, but lighter spectra with single states around 10 TeV are also possible. The main constraints come from proton decay, the Higgs mass, the requirement of the SU(5) spectrum…
We discuss the ordinary, non-supersymmetric SO(10) as a theory of fermion masses and mixings. We construct two minimal versions of the Yukawa sector based on $\bar{126}_H $ and either $10_H$ or $120_H$. The latter case is of particular interest since it connects the absolute neutrino mass scale with the size of the atmospheric mixing angle $θ_A$. It also relates the smallness of $V_{cb}$ with the largeness of $θ_A$. These results are based on the analytic study of the second and third generations. Furthermore, we discuss the structure of the light Higgs and the role of the Peccei-Quinn symmetr…
We examine the (softly broken) supersymmetric gauge-Higgs-Yukawa theories satisfying the compositeness conditions at a certain scale. In these theories the Higgs superfields can be regarded as the chiral composite fields. It is found that there are the fundamental theories, which contain the dimension 5 interactions and the hard SUSY breaking in perturbation, turn to be renormalizable and also softly broken theories in the nonperturbative framework. The soft SUSY breaking parameters as well as the Yukawa coupling in the corresponding gauge-Higgs-Yukawa theories are restricted by the renormaliz…
We find an explicit renormalizable supersymmetric $E_6$ model with all the ingredients for being realistic. It consists of the Higgs sector $351'+\overline{351'}+27+\overline{27}$, which breaks $E_6$ directly to the Standard Model gauge group. Three copies of $27$ dimensional representations then describe the matter sector, while an extra $27+\overline{27}$ pair is needed to successfully split the Standard Model Higgs doublet from the heavy Higgs triplet. We perform the analysis of the vacuum structure and the Yukawa sector of this model, as well as compute contributions to proton decay. Also,…
A simple extension of the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theory by adding a 120-dimensional Higgs representation is examined. This brings new antisymmetric contributions to the relevant quark and lepton mass sum rules and leads to a better fit of the measured values of lepton masses and mixings together with a natural completion of the renormalizable Higgs sector within the SUSY SO(10) framework.
We perform a supergraph computation of the effective Kaehler potential at one and two loops for general four dimensional N=1 supersymmetric theories described by arbitrary Kaehler potential, superpotential and gauge kinetic function. We only insist on gauge invariance of the Kaehler potential and the superpotential as we heavily rely on its consequences in the quantum theory. However, we do not require gauge invariance for the gauge kinetic functions, so that our results can also be applied to anomalous theories that involve the Green-Schwarz mechanism. We illustrate our two loop results by co…
We consider a model of D-term inflation in which the inflaton coincides with the standard Higgs doublet. Non-renormalizable terms are controlled by a discrete R-symmetry of the superpotential. We consider radiative corrections to the scalar potential and find that Higgs inflation in the slow-roll approximation is viable and consistent with CMB data, although with a rather large value of the non-renormalizable coupling involved.
Renormalizable lepton number violating interactions that break R-parity can induce a Majorana mass for neutrinos. Based on this, we show that it is possible to obtain a phenomenologically viable neutrino mass matrix that can accommodate atmospheric neutrino data via $ν_μ$--$ν_τ$ mixing and the solar neutrino data via either the large or small angle MSW effect. We argue that such a mass matrix could result from an approximate discrete symmetry of the superpotential that forbids renormalizable baryon number violating couplings.
We investigate the conditions on the Higgs sector that allow supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theories (GUT) to break spontaneously to the standard electroweak model (SM) at the renormalizable level. If one considers Higgs representations of dimension up to the adjoint, a supersymmetric standard model vacuum requires in most cases the presence of non-renormalizable (NR) operators. The active role of Planck induced NR operators in the breaking of the gauge symmetry introduces a hierarchy in the mass spectrum at the GUT scale that may be an issue for gauge unification and proton decay. We sho…
We present a pedagogical review of our current understanding of the ultraviolet structure of N = (1,1) 6D supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and of N = 8 4D supergravity. These theories are not renormalizable, they involve power ultraviolet divergences and, in all probability, an infinite set of higher-dimensional counterterms that contribute to on-mass-shell scattering amplitudes. A specific feature of supersymmetric theories (especially, of extended supersymmetric theories) is that these counterterms may not be invariant off shell under the full set of supersymmetry transformations. The lowest…
We study the nature of the see-saw mechanism in the context of renormalizable SO(10) with Higgs fields in the 10-plets and 126-plet representations, paying special attention to the supersymmetric case. We discuss analytically the situation for the second and third generations of fermions ignoring any CP violating phase. It is shown that b-tau unification and large atmospheric mixing angle strongly disfavor the dominance of the type I see-saw.
We systematically study the renormalizable three-term polynomial inflation in the supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric models. The supersymmetric inflaton potentials can be realized in supergravity theory, and only have two independent parameters. We show that the general renormalizable supergravity model is equivalent to one kind of our supersymmetric models. We find that the spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio can be consistent with the Planck and BICEP2 results, but the running of spectral index is always out of the $2σ$ range. If we do not consider the BICEP2 experiment, these infla…
We construct a renormalizable, supersymmetric theory of flavor and $R$ parity based on the discrete flavor group $(S_3)^3$. The model can account for all the masses and mixing angles of the Standard Model, while maintaining sufficient squark degeneracy to circumvent the supersymmetric flavor problem. By starting with a simpler set of flavor symmetry breaking fields than we have suggested previously, we construct an economical Froggatt-Nielsen sector that generates the desired elements of the fermion Yukawa matrices. With the particle content above the flavor scale completely specified, we show…
We consider a general d=4 N=1 globally supersymmetric lagrangian involving chiral and vector superfields, with arbitrary superpotential, Kahler potential and gauge kinetic function. We compute perturbative quantum corrections by employing a component field approach that respects supersymmetry and background gauge invariance. In particular, we obtain the full one-loop correction to the Kahler potential in supersymmetric Landau gauge. Two derivations of this result are described. The non-renormalization of the superpotential and the quadratic correction to the Fayet-Iliopoulos terms are further …
We show that the low energy limit of the minimal supersymmetric Left-Right models is the supersymmetric standard model with an exact R-parity. The theory predicts a number of light Higgs scalars and fermions with masses much below the $B-L$ and $SU(2)_R$ breaking scales. The non-renormalizable version of the theory has a striking prediction of light doubly charged supermultiplets which may be accessible to experiment. Whereas in the renormalizable case the scale of parity breaking is undetermined, in the non-renormalizable one it must be bigger than about $10^{10} - 10^{12}$ GeV. The precise n…
We discuss in detail the symmetry breaking and related issues in the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric grand unified theory. We compute the particle spectrum and study its impact on the physical scales of the theory. This provides a framework for the analysis of phenomenological implications of the theory, to be carried out in part II.
The apparent breakdown of unitarity in low order perturbation theory is often is used to place bounds on the parameters of a theory. In this work we give an algorithm for approximately computing the next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbativity bounds on the quartic couplings of a renormalizable theory whose scalar sector is $ϕ^4$-like. By this we mean theories where either there are no cubic scalar interactions, or the cubic couplings are related to the quartic couplings through spontaneous symmetry breaking. The quantity that tests where perturbation theory breaks down itself can be written as …
Recently we have proposed a renormalizable grand unified theory, based on the SU(5) gauge symmetry, where the neutrino masses are generated through the type I and type III seesaw mechanisms. In this letter we study the supersymmetric version of this theory. As in the non-susy version it is possible to generate all fermion masses with the minimal number of Higgses, the theory predicts one massless neutrino and the leptogenesis mechanism can be realized. All contributions to the decay of the proton and the properties of neutralinos are discussed. This theory can be considered as the simplest ren…
We construct a new minimal extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) by promoting the $μ$-parameter to a singlet superfield. The resulting renormalizable superpotential is enforced by a $\mathcal{Z}_5$ $R$-symmetry which is imposed on the non-renormalizable operators as well. The proposed model provides a natural solution to the $μ$-problem and is free from phenomenological and cosmological problems.
We explore the gauge hierarchy problem within the framework of supersymmetric $SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R$ with a minimal set of higgs supermultiplets. Imposition of a suitable discrete (alternatively $R$) symmetry `prevents' the electroweak higgs doublets from becoming superheavy through renormalizable couplings. A full resolution of the problem requires consideration of the non-renormalizable couplings which play an essential role. Other key differences from the minimal supersymmetric $SU(5)$ model include the fact that the proton is stable and that an effective $5 + \bar{5}$ supe…
The scalar potential of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is nearly flat along many directions in field space. We provide a catalog of the flat directions of the renormalizable and supersymmetry-preserving part of the scalar potential of the MSSM, using the correspondence between flat directions and gauge-invariant polynomials of chiral superfields. We then study how these flat directions are lifted by non-renormalizable terms in the superpotential, with special attention given to the subtleties associated with the family index structure. Several flat directions are lifted only …
We show that the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric SO(10) GUT with the usual three generations of spinors has a Higgs sector consisting only of a "light" 10-dimensional and "heavy" 126, 126-bar and 210 supermultiplets. The theory has only two sets of Yukawa couplings with fifteen real parameters and ten real parameters in the Higgs superpotential. It accounts correctly for all the fermion masses and mixings. The theory predicts at low energies the MSSM with exact R-parity. It is arguably the minimal consistent supersymmetric grand unified theory.
New light singlet scalars with flavor-specific couplings represent a phenomenologically distinctive and flavor-safe alternative to the well-studied possibility of Higgs-portal scalars. However, in contrast to the Higgs portal, flavor-specific couplings require an ultraviolet completion involving new heavy states charged under the Standard Model gauge symmetries, leading to a host of additional novel phenomena. Focusing for concreteness on a scenario with up quark-specific couplings, we investigate two simple renormalizable completions, one with an additional vector-like quark and another featu…
We consider the simplest and most economic version among the proposed non-minimal supersymmetric models, in which the $μ$-parameter is promoted to a singlet superfield, whose all self-couplings are absent from the renormalizable superpotential. Such a particularly simple form of the renormalizable superpotential may be enforced by discrete $R$-symmetries which are extended to the gravity-induced non-renormalizable operators as well. We show explicitly that within the supergravity-mediated supersymmetry-breaking scenario, the potentially dangerous divergent tadpoles associated with the presence…
We discuss how θ_{13} \neq 0 is accommodated in a recently proposed renormalizable model of neutrino mixing using the non-Abelian discrete symmetry T_7 in the context of a supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model with gauged U(1)_{B-L}. We predict a correlation between θ_{13} and θ_{23}, as well as the effective neutrino mass m_{ee} in neutrinoless double beta decay.
We review the main constraints on the parameter space of the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theory. They consist of the Higgs mass, proton decay, electroweak symmetry breaking and fermion masses. Superpartner masses are constrained both from below and from above, giving hope for confirming or definitely ruling out the theory in the future. This contribution is based on Ref. [1].
I present results for the two-loop self-energy functions for scalars in a general renormalizable field theory, using mass-independent renormalization schemes based on dimensional regularization and dimensional reduction. The results are given in terms of a minimal set of loop-integral basis functions, which are readily evaluated numerically by computers. This paper contains the contributions corresponding to the Feynman diagrams with zero or one vector propagator lines. These are the ones needed to obtain the pole masses of the neutral and charged Higgs scalar bosons in supersymmetry, neglecti…
It is shown that the one-loop ultraviolet divergences in renormalizable supersymmetric theories can be regulated by the introduction of heavy Pauli-Villars chiral supermultiplets, provided the generators of the gauge group are traceless in the matter representation. The procedure is extended to include supersymmetric gauged nonlinear sigma models.
We review the phenomenology of light Higgs scalars in supersymmetric left-right models. We consider models with minimal particle content (with and without non-renormalizable higher-dimensional terms) and with additional Higgs superfields. The upper bound on the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson in these models is larger than in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and the Higgs couplings to fermions approach those of the Standard Model. Possibly light doubly charged Higgs boson may provide the best signature of these models.
We present a detailed study of the quark and lepton mass spectra in a SO(10) framework with one 10_H and one \bar{126}_H Higgs representations in the Yukawa sector. We consider in full generality the interplay between type-I and type-II seesaws for neutrino masses. We first perform a χ^2 fit of fermion masses independent on the detailed structure of the GUT Higgs potential and determine the regions in the parameter space that are preferred by the fermion mass sum rules. We then apply our study to the case of the minimal renormalizable SUSY SO(10) GUT with one 10_H, one \bar{126}_H, one 126_H, …
The SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT is in severe tension with the experimental bounds on proton partial lifetimes because proton decay mediated by colored Higgsinos (dimension-five proton decay) is too rapid. In this paper, we pursue the possibility that a texture of the Yukawa coupling matrices in a renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT model suppresses dimension-five proton decay. We focus on a general renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT model which contains ${\bf 10}+{\bf 126}+{\bf \overline{126}}+{\bf 120}$ representation fields and where the Yukawa coupling matrices of the ${\bf 16}$ matter fields with the ${\…
In the context of a renormalizable supersymmetric SO(10) Grand Unified Theory, we consider the fermion mass matrices generated by the Yukawa couplings to a $\mathbf{10} \oplus \mathbf{120} \oplus \bar{\mathbf{126}}$ representation of scalars. We perform a complete investigation of the possibilities of imposing flavour symmetries in this scenario; the purpose is to reduce the number of Yukawa coupling constants in order to identify potentially predictive models. We have found that there are only 14 inequivalent cases of Yukawa coupling matrices, out of which 13 cases are generated by $Z_n$ symm…
We suggest simple ways of implementing Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry to solve the strong CP problem in renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ models with a minimal Yukawa sector. Realistic fermion mass generation requires that a second pair of Higgs doublets survive down to the PQ scale. We show how unification of gauge couplings can be achieved in this context. Higgsino mediated proton decay rate is strongly suppressed by a factor of $(M_{\rm PQ}/M_{\rm GUT})^2$, which enables all SUSY particles to have masses of order TeV. With TeV scale SUSY spectrum, $p \rightarrow \overlineν K^+$ decay rate is expecte…
This report is a review of the present status of GUT, especially renormalizable minimal SO(10) GUT, and its future prospect. It consists of two parts. In part I, I review how the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric SO(10) GUT, an SO(10) framework with only one ${\bf 10}$ and one $\bar{\bf 126}$ Higgs multiplets in the Yukawa sector, is attractive because of its high predictivity. Indeed it not only gave a consistent predictions on neutrino oscillation data but also did reasonable and interesting values for Leptogenesis, LFV, muon g-2, neutrinoless double beta decay etc. However, this model s…
We make an explicit formulation for the proton decay rate in the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric (SUSY) SO(10) model. In this model, the Higgs fields consist of ${\bf 10}$ and ${\bf \bar{126}}$ SO(10) representations in the Yukawa interactions with matter and of ${\bf 10}$, ${\bf \bar{126}}$, ${\bf 126}$, and ${\bf 210}$ representations in the Higgs potential. We present all the mass matrices for the Higgs fields contained in this minimal SUSY SO(10) model. Finally, we discuss the threshold effects of these Higgs fields on the gauge coupling unification.
We reconsider a class of well motivated supersymmetric models in which inflation is associated with the breaking of a gauge symmetry G to H, with the symmetry breaking scale M~10^16 GeV. Starting with a renormalizable superpotential, we include both radiative and supergravity corrections to derive the inflationary potential. The scalar spectral index n_s can exceed unity in some cases, and it cannot be smaller than 0.98 if the number of e-foldings corresponding to the present horizon scale is around 60. Two distinct variations of this scenario are discussed in which non-renormalizable terms al…
We investigate the possibility of constructing a renormalizable standard model with purely fermionic matter content. The Higgs scalar is replaced by point-like fermionic self-interactions with couplings growing large at the Fermi scale. An analysis of the UV behavior in the point-like approximation reveals a variety of non-Gaussian fixed points for the fermion couplings. If real, such fixed points would imply nonperturbative renormalizability and evade triviality of the Higgs sector. For point-like fermionic self-interactions and weak gauge couplings, one encounters a hierarchy problem similar…
We investigate a scenario in a supersymmetric SO(10) Grand Unified Theory in which the fermion mass matrices are generated by renormalizable Yukawa couplings of the $\mathbf{10} \oplus \mathbf{120} \oplus \bar{\mathbf{126}}$ representation of scalars. We reduce the number of parameters by assuming spontaneous CP violation and a $\mathbbm{Z}_2$ family symmetry, leading to nine real Yukawa coupling constants for three families. Since in the ``minimal SUSY SO(10) GUT'' an intermediate seesaw scale is ruled out and our scenario lives in the natural extension of this theory by the $\mathbf{120}$, w…
We discuss the representations that new scalar degrees of freedom (beyond those in the minimal standard model) can have if they couple to quarks in a way that is consistent with minimal flavor violation. If the new scalars are singlets under the flavor group then they must be color singlets or color octets. In this paper we discuss the allowed representations and renormalizable couplings when the new scalars also transform under the flavor group. We find that color \bar{3} and 6 representations are also allowed. We focus on the cases where the new scalars can have renormalizable Yukawa couplin…
The previously developed renormalizable perturbative 1/N-expansion in higher dimensional scalar field theories is extended to gauge theories with fermions. It is based on the $1/N_f$-expansion and results in a logarithmically divergent perturbation theory in arbitrary high odd space-time dimension. Due to the self-interaction of non-Abelian fields the proposed recipe requires some modification which, however, does not change the main results. The new effective coupling is dimensionless and is running in accordance with the usual RG equations. The corresponding beta function is calculated in th…
In the context of supersymmetric $SO(10)$ grand unified models, it is shown that the gauge symmetry breaking as well as a natural doublet--triplet splitting can be achieved with a minimal Higgs system consisting of a single adjoint and a pair of vector and spinor multiplets. Such a Higgs spectrum has been shown to arise in the free fermionic formulation of superstrings. Since the symmetry breaking mechanism relies on non--renormalizable operators, some of the Higgs particles of the model turn out to have masses somewhat below the GUT scale. As a consequence, the unification scale is raised to …
We revisit the Higgs sector of the left-right supersymmetric model. We study the scalar potential in a version of the model in which the minimum is the charge conserving vacuum state, without R-parity violation or additional non-renormalizable terms in the Lagrangian. We analyze the dependence of the potential and of the Higgs mass spectrum on the various parameters of the model, pinpointing the most sensitive ones. We also show that, contrary to previous expectations, the model can predict light neutral flavor-conserving Higgs bosons, while the flavor-violating ones are heavy, and within the …
We present a ``gravity-induced'' seesaw mechanism, which accommodates neutrino masses ($m_ν\propto m_u^2/M_I$, with $m_u$ the corresponding quark mass and $M_I\simeq 4\times10^{11}$ GeV) compatible with the MSW study of the Solar neutrino deficit within the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (the grand desert with the gauge coupling unification at $M_U\simeq 2\times10^{16}$ GeV). We show that for large radius ($R^2/α'={\cal O}(20)$) Calabi-Yau spaces, threshold corrections ensure $M_U^2=M_C^2/{\cal O} (2R^2/α')$ and the magnitude of the non-renormalizable terms in the superpotential yields …
We classify a supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model by discrete symmetries originating from finite modular symmetries $Γ_N$. Since all the couplings in supersymmetric theories of finite modular symmetries $Γ_N$ are described by holomorphic modular forms with even modular weights, renormalizable and non-renormalizable operators such as baryon- and/or lepton-number violating operators are severely constrained. From the modular transformation of matter multiplets with modular weight $1/M$, we find $\mathbb{Z}_{2M}$ symmetries, including the generalized baryon and lepton parities, $R$-par…
We present an updated analysis of the Yukawa matrix unification within the renormalizable Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. It is assumed that the soft terms are non-universal but flavour-diagonal in the super-CKM basis at the GUT scale. Trilinear Higgs-squark-squark A-terms can generate large threshold corrections to the Yukawa matrix $\mathbf{Y}^d$ at the superpartner decoupling scale. In effect, the SU(5) boundary condition $\mathbf{Y}^d=\mathbf{Y}^{e\,T}$ at the GUT scale can be satisfied. However, such large trilinear terms make the usual Higgs vacuum metastable (though long-lived). …
We carry out a detailed analysis of the light Higgs bosons in supersymmetric left-right models (SLRM). This includes models with minimal particle content and those with additional Higgs superfields. We also consider models with non-renormalizable higher-dimensional terms. We obtain an upper bound on the mass of the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson in these models. The upper bound depends only on the gauge couplings, and the vacuum expectation values of those neutral Higgs fields which control the spontaneous breakdown of the $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ gauge symmetry. We calculate the one-loop…
We present the beta functions of gauge and Yukawa couplings in general four-dimensional quantum field theory, at four and three loops, respectively. The essence of our approach is fixing unknown coefficients in the most general ansatz for beta-functions by direct calculation in several simplified models. We apply our results to the Standard Model and its extension with an arbitrary number of Higgs doublets and provide expressions for all four-loop gauge couplings beta-functions with matrix Yukawa interactions.
We present a renormalizable non supersymmetric Grand Unified SO(10) model which, at the price of a large fine tuning, is compatible with all compelling phenomenological requirements below the unification scale and thus realizes a minimal extension of the SM, unified in SO(10) and describing all known physics below $M_{GUT}$. These requirements include coupling unification at a large enough scale to be compatible with the bounds on proton decay; a Yukawa sector in agreement with all the data on quark and lepton masses and mixings and with leptogenesis as the origin of the baryon asymmetry of th…
The possibilities for an underlying theory behind an effective supersymmetric Nambu--Jona-Lasinio like model of electroweak symmetry breaking with propagating Higgs boundstates (e.g. supersymmetric topcondensation) are investigated. The concept of a renormalizable underlying theory turns out not to be appropriate. We argue that the new theory should come from the Planck scale and be connected to supergravity. Such a model can be constructed but necessarily implies a nonlinear definition of the full Lagrangian.
We recapitulate the primary sources of theoretical uncertainties in proton lifetime estimates in renormalizable, four-dimensional and non-supersymmetric grand unifications that represent the most conservative framework in which this question may be addressed at the perturbative level. We point out that many of these uncertainties are so severe that there are only very few scenarios in which an NLO approach, as crucial as it is for a real testability of any specific model, is actually sensible. Among these, the most promising seems to be the minimal renormalizable SO(10) GUT whose high-energy g…
