We describe the completed local rings of the trianguline variety at certain points of integral weights in terms of completed local rings of algebraic varieties related to Grothendieck's simultaneous resolution of singularities. We derive several local consequences at these points for the trianguline variety: local irreducibility, description of all local companion points in the crystalline case, combinatorial description of the completed local rings of the fiber over the weight map, etc. Combined with the patched Hecke eigenvariety (under the usual Taylor-Wiles assumptions), these results in turn have several global consequences: classicality of crystalline strictly dominant points on global Hecke eigenvarieties, existence of all expected companion constituents in the completed cohomology, existence of singularities on global Hecke eigenvarieties.
Many results about the geometry of the trianguline variety have been obtained by Breuil-Hellmann-Schraen. Among them, using geometric methods, they have computed a formula for the dimension of the tangent space of the trianguline variety at dominant crystalline generic points, which has a conjectural generalisation to companion (i.e. non-dominant) points. In an earlier work, they proved a weaker form of this formula under the assumption of modularity using arithmetic methods. We prove a generalisation of a result of Bellaïche-Chenevier in p-adic Hodge theory and use it to extend the arithmetic…
By the work of Breuil-Hellmann-Schraen, we know that the trianguline variety contains crystalline companion points which are parametrised by pairs (w,w_sat) of permutations. We first define and study a certain combinatorial property of a pair (w',w) of permutations, linked to the Bruhat order, in the context of Weyl groups of root systems. We call good pairs the pairs satisfying this property (which is the vast majority of pairs) and bad pairs the other ones. We then give an exact formula for the dimension of the tangent space to the trianguline variety at (generic) crystalline companion point…
We construct parabolic analogues of (global) eigenvarieties, of patched eigenvarieties and of (local) trianguline varieties, that we call respectively Bernstein eigenvarieties, patched Bernstein eigenvarieties, and Bernstein paraboline varieties. We study the geometry of these rigid analytic spaces, in particular (generalizing results of Breuil-Hellmann-Schraen) we show that their local geometry can be described by certain algebraic schemes related to the generalized Grothendieck-Springer resolution. We deduce several local-global compatibility results, including a classicality result (with no…
Given a central isogeny $π\colon G\to H$ of connected reductive $\overline{\mathbb Q}_p$-groups, and a local Galois representation $ρ$ valued in $H(\overline{\mathbb Q}_p)$ that is trianguline in the sense of Daruvar, we study whether a lift of $ρ$ along $π$ is still trianguline. We give a positive answer under weak conditions on the Hodge--Tate--Sen weights of $ρ$, and the assumption that the trianguline parameter of $ρ$ can be lifted along $π$. This is an analogue of the results proved by Wintenberger, Conrad, Patrikis, and Hoang Duc for $p$-adic Hodge-theoretic properties of $ρ$. We describ…
We prove that the monodromy of an irreducible cohomologically complex rigid local system with finite determinant and quasi-unipotent local monodromies at infinity on a smooth quasiprojective complex variety $X$ is integral. This answers positively a special case of a conjecture by Carlos Simpson. On a smooth projective variety, the argument relies on Drinfeld's theorem on the existence of $\ell$-adic companions over a finite field. When the variety is quasiprojective, one has in addition to control the weights and the monodromy at infinity.
For every affine variety over a global function field, we show that the set of its points with coordinates in an arbitrary rank-one multiplicative subgroup of this function field is topologically dense in the set of its points with coordinates in the topological closure of this subgroup in the product of the multiplicative group of those local completions of this function field over all but finitely many places.
We complete our proof that given an overconvergent F-isocrystal on a variety over a field of positive characteristic, one can pull back along a suitable generically finite cover to obtain an isocrystal which extends, with logarithmic singularities and nilpotent residues, to some complete variety. We also establish an analogue for F-isocrystals overconvergent inside a partial compactification. By previous results, this reduces to solving a local problem in a neighborhood of a valuation of height 1 and residual transcendence degree 0. We do this by studying the variation of some numerical invari…
We prove a $p$-adic analogue of the André-Oort conjecture for subvarieties of the universal abelian varieties containing a dense set of special points. Let $g$ and $n$ be integers with $n \geq 3$ and $p$ a prime number not dividing $n$. Let $R$ be a finite extension of $W[{\mathbb F}_p^{\mathrm alg}]$, the ring of Witt vectors of the algebraic closure of the field of $p$ elements. The moduli space $\cA = \cA_{g,1,n}$ of $g$-dimensional principally polarized abelian varieties with full level $n$-structure as well as the universal abelian variety $π:\cX \to \cA$ over $\cA$ may be defined over $R…
We construct a functor from the category of p-adic etale local systems on a smooth rigid analytic variety X over a p-adic field to the category of vector bundles with an integrable connection over its "base change to B_dR", which can be regarded as a first step towards the sought-after p-adic Riemann-Hilbert correspondence. As a consequence, we obtain the following rigidity theorem for p-adic local systems on a connected rigid analytic variety: if the stalk of such a local system at one point, regarded as a p-adic Galois representation, is de Rham in the sense of Fontaine, then the stalk at ev…
Let $X/\mathbb{F}_{q}$ be a smooth geometrically connected variety. Inspired by work of Corlette-Simpson over $\mathbb{C}$, we formulate a conjecture that absolutely irreducible rank 2 local systems with infinite monodromy on $X$ come from families of abelian varieties. When $X$ is a projective variety, we prove a Lefschetz-style theorem for abelian schemes of $\text{GL}_2$-type on $X$, modeled after a theorem of Simpson. If one assumes a strong form of Deligne's ($p$-adic) \emph{companions conjecture} from Weil II, this implies that our conjecture for projective varieties also reduces to the …
Let K be the field of fractions of a Henselian discrete valuation ring O_K. Let X_K/K be a smooth proper geometrically connected scheme admitting a regular model X/O_K. We show that the index δ(X_K/K) of X_K/K can be explicitly computed using data pertaining only to the special fiber X_k/k of the model X. We give two proofs of this theorem, using two moving lemmas. One moving lemma pertains to horizontal 1-cycles on a regular projective scheme X over the spectrum of a semi-local Dedekind domain, and the second moving lemma can be applied to 0-cycles on an FA-scheme X which need not be regular.…
For a discrete subgroup of an indefinite unitary group $U(1,n+1)$, $n\geq 1$, consider the attached modular variety. Using local Borcherds products, we study Heegner divisors in the local Picard group over a boundary component the compactified variety. We obtain a criterion for local Heegner divisors to be torsion elements in the local Picard group. As an application, we find that the obstructions for a local Heegner divisor to be a torsion element can be described through spaces of vector valued elliptic cusp forms spanned by certain theta-series.
We develop local cohomology techniques to study the finite slope part of the coherent cohomology of Shimura varieties. The local cohomology groups we consider are a generalization of overconvergent modular forms, and they are defined by using a stratification on the Shimura variety obtained from the Bruhat stratification on a flag variety via the Hodge-Tate period map. We construct a spectral sequence from the local cohomologies to the classical cohomology and use it to obtain classicality and vanishing results. We also develop a theory of p-adic families and construct eigenvarieties. As an ap…
Let $k$ be a number field and let ${\mathcal{A}}$ be a ${\rm GL}_2$-type variety defined over $k$ of dimension $d$. We show that for every prime number $p$ satisfying certain conditions (see Theorem 2), if the local-global divisibility principle by a power of $p$ does not hold for ${\mathcal{A}}$ over $k$, then there exists a cyclic extension $\widetilde{k}$ of $k$ of degree bounded by a constant depending on $d$ such that ${\mathcal{A}}$ is $\widetilde{k}$-isogenous to a ${\rm GL}_2$-type variety defined over $\widetilde{k}$ that admits a $\widetilde{k}$-rational point of order $p$. Moreover,…
