We consider entanglement through permeable junctions of $N$ $(1+1)$-dimensional free boson and free fermion conformal field theories. In the folded picture we constrain the form of the general boundary state. We calculate replicated partition functions with interface operators inserted in the partially-folded picture, from which the entanglement entropy is calculated. The functional form of the universal and constant terms are the same as the $N=2$ case, depending only of the total transmission of the junction and the unit volume of the zero mode lattice. For $N>2$ we see a sub-leading divergent term which does not depend on the parameters of the junction. For $N=3$ we consider some specific geometries and discuss various limits.
In this paper, we study the entanglement contour in a general excited state in the holographic 2d CFT using the partial entanglement entropy proposal. We show how thermodynamics fixes the entanglement contour relating it to the first law of entanglement. We derive the entanglement contour for a general time-dependent excited state and consider a quenched initial state in the presence of spatial boundaries as an explicit example. Finally, we comment on the coarse-graining and the complexity contour in the $AdS_3/CFT_2$.
In the framework of the AdS/CFT correspondence, imposing a scalar field in the bulk space-time leads to deform the corresponding CFT in the boundary, which may produce corrections to entanglement entropy, as well as the so-called subregion complexity. We have computed such corrections for a set of singular subregions including kink, cones and creases in different dimensions. Our calculations shows new singular terms including universal logarithmic corrections for entanglement entropy and subregion complexity for some distinct values of conformal weight.

We advance a holographic construction for the entanglement negativity of bipartite mixed state configurations of two disjoint intervals in $(1+1)$ dimensional conformal field theories ($CFT_{1+1}$) through the $AdS_3/CFT_2$ correspondence. Our construction constitutes the large central charge analysis of the entanglement negativity for mixed states under consideration and involves a specific algebraic sum of bulk space like geodesics anchored on appropriate intervals in the dual $CFT_{1+1}$. The construction is utilized to compute the holographic entanglement negativity for such mixed states i…
In this note, I revisit the problem of computing the entanglement entropy of a single interval in the ground state of a 2d CFT. I write the leading-order result in three different ways: once by doing the replica trick with the $n$-replicated cylinder partition function computed in the ``closed string channel"; once by computing the $n$-replicated cylinder partition function in the ``open string channel", where the entanglement entropy can be related to the density of states in a boundary CFT defined on the interval; and for holographic CFTs, once as the log of a Plancherel measure for a certai…
We consider a conformal field theory in two dimensions in which an external perturbation is placed. We study the energy flux and entanglement entropy for one, two and multiple intervals and give a suggestion relating the two in some cases. We show that both the energy flux and the entanglement entropy exhibit a light-cone singularity which strongly depends on the regularization we choose.
We study the dynamics of the geometric entanglement entropy of a 2D CFT in the presence of a boundary. We show that this dynamics is governed by local equations of motion, that take the same form as 2D Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity coupled to the CFT. If we assume that the boundary has a small thickness $ε$ and constant boundary entropy, we derive that its location satisfies the equations of motion of Schwarzian quantum mechanics with coupling constant $C = {c ε}/{12π}$. We rederive this result via energy-momentum conservation.
Inspired by the holographic computation of large interval entanglement entropy of two dimensional conformal field theory at high temperature, it was proposed that the thermal entropy is related to the entanglement entropy as $S_{th}=\displaystyle{\lim_{l \to 0}(S_{EE}(R-l)-S_{EE}(l))}$. In this letter, we prove this relation for 2D CFT with discrete spectrum in two different ways. Moreover we discuss this relation for a 2D noncompact free scalar, which is a gapless CFT with continuous spectrum. We show that it could be recovered, after appropriately regularizing the theory.
We advance a construction for the covariant holographic entanglement negativity for time dependent mixed states of disjoint intervals in $(1+1)$ dimensional conformal field theories ($CFT_{1+1}$) dual to bulk non static $AdS_3$ geometries. Application of our proposal to such mixed states in a $CFT_{1+1}$ dual to bulk non extremal and extremal rotating BTZ black holes exactly reproduces the replica technique results in the large central charge limit. We also investigate the time dependent holographic entanglement negativity for such mixed states in a $CFT_{1+1}$ dual to a bulk Vaidya-$AdS_3$ ge…
The Ryu-Takayanagi conjecture provides a holographic description for the entanglement entropy for the strongly coupled holographic CFTs in the semi-classical limit. It proposes that the entanglement entropy is given by the area of the minimal homologous surface in the dual bulk. We show that the common terms of the entanglement entropy for the free massless fermions or bosons on a torus in the high-temperature expansion can be described by the sum of the signed area of extremal surfaces in the BTZ spacetime. The resulting EE and the corresponding bunch of the exgremal surfaces have preferable …
The Ryu-Takayanagi conjecture predicts a holographic dual of the entanglement entropy of a CFT. It proposes that the entanglement entropy is given by the area of the minimal surface in the dual spacetime. In the semi-classical limit, this conjecture is supported by the saddle point approximation. If there are multiple classical solutions, it is assumed that only the minimal action contributes to the entanglement entropy. However, we will point out that these saddles equally contribute to the entanglement entropy in some cases. Therefore, the derivation of the conjecture is incomplete if there …
We construct solutions to the Einstein equations for asymptotically locally Anti-de Sitter spacetimes with four, five, and six dimensional Reissner-Nordström boundary metrics. These spacetimes are gravitational duals to "jammed" CFTs on those backgrounds at infinite N and strong coupling. For these spacetimes, we calculate the boundary stress tensor as well as compute entanglement entropies for ball shaped regions as functions of the boundary black hole temperature $T_{BH}$. From this, we see how the CFT prevents heat flow from the black hole to the vacuum at spatial infinity. We also compute …
We mainly study the Rényi entropy and entanglement entropy of the states locally excited by the descendent operators in two dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs). In rational CFTs, we prove that the increase of entanglement entropy and Rényi entropy for a class of descendent operators, which are generated by $\cal{L}^{(-)}\bar{\cal{L}}^{(-)}$ onto the primary operator, always coincide with the logarithmic of quantum dimension of the corresponding primary operator. That means the Rényi entropy and entanglement entropy for these descendent operators are the same as the ones of their corres…
In this work, we study the holographic entanglement entropy of two dimensional $T\bar{T}$-deformed conformal field theory. We compute the correction due to the deformation up to the leading order of the deformation parameter in the framework of New massive gravity, General minimal massive gravity, and Exotic general massive gravity. We also apply Song's prescription to obtain the entanglement entropy for deformed theories. In each cases, we find agreement between the results.
In this paper, we regard the $T\bar{T}$/$J\bar{T}$-deformed CFTs as perturbation theories and calculate the first order correction of the correlation functions due to the $T\bar{T}$/$J\bar{T}$-deformation. As applications, we study the Rényi entanglement entropy of excited state in the $T\bar{T}$/$J\bar{T}$-deformed two-dimensional CFTs. We find, up to the perturbation first order of the deformation, the Rényi entanglement entropy of locally excited states will acquire a non-trivial time dependence. The excess of the Rényi entanglement entropy of locally excited state will also be dramatically…
We consider the entanglement entropy in the dS/CFT correspondence. In Einstein gravity on de Sitter spacetime we propose the holographic entanglement entropy as the analytic continuation of the extremal surface in Euclidean anti-de Sitter spacetime.Even though dual conformal field theories for Einstein gravity on de Sitter spacetime have not been known yet,we analyzed the free $Sp(N)$ model dual to Vasiliev's higher spin gauge theory as a toy model. In this model we confirmed the behaviour similar to our holographic result from Einstein gravity.
Entanglement entropy obeys a 'first law', an exact quantum generalization of the ordinary first law of thermodynamics. In any CFT with a semiclassical holographic dual, this first law has an interpretation in the dual gravitational theory as a constraint on the spacetimes dual to CFT states. For small perturbations around the CFT vacuum state, we show that the set of such constraints for all ball-shaped spatial regions in the CFT is exactly equivalent to the requirement that the dual geometry satisfy the gravitational equations of motion, linearized about pure AdS. For theories with entangleme…
In this paper, we study the entanglement entropy of a single interval on a cylinder in two-dimensional $T\overline{T}$-deformed conformal field theory. For such case, the (Rényi) entanglement entropy takes a universal form in a CFT. We compute the correction due to the deformation up to the leading order of the deformation parameter in the framework of the conformal perturbation theory. We find that the correction to the entanglement entropy is nonvanishing in the finite temperature case, while it is vanishing in the finite size case. For the deformed holographic large $c$ CFT, which is propos…
We propose a holographic entanglement negativity conjecture involving the bulk geometry, for mixed states of adjacent intervals in $(1+1)$-dimensional dual conformal field theories through the $AdS/CFT$ correspondence. The holographic entanglement negativity is obtained from a specific algebraic sum of the geodesics anchored on respective intervals on the boundary which reduces to the holographic mutual information between them. Utilizing our conjecture we obtain the entanglement negativity of adjacent intervals in zero and finite temperature ($1+1$)-dimensional holographic conformal field the…
In arXiv:1601.02634 it was observed that asymptotic boundary conditions play an important role in the study of holographic entanglement beyond AdS/CFT. In particular, the Ryu-Takayanagi proposal must be modified for warped AdS$_3$ (WAdS$_3$) with Dirichlet boundary conditions. In this paper, we consider AdS$_3$ and WAdS$_3$ with Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions. The conjectured holographic duals are warped conformal field theories (WCFTs), featuring a Virasoro-Kac-Moody algebra. We provide a holographic calculation of the entanglement entropy and Rényi entropy using AdS$_3$/WCFT and WAdS$…
We consider deformation of a generic $d$ dimensional ($d\geq 2$) large-$N$ CFT on a sphere by a spin-0 operator which is bilinear in the components of the stress tensor. Such a deformation has been proposed to be holographically dual to an $AdS_{d+1}$ bulk with a hard radial cut-off. We compute the exact partition function and find the entanglement entropy from the field theory side in various dimensions and compare with the corresponding holographic results. We also compute renormalized entanglement entropy both in field theory and holography and find complete agreement between them.
The purpose of this report is to provide a framework for defining phase transition processes in two dimensional holographic superconductors, and to illustrate how they are useful to be described by holographic entanglement entropy. We study holographic entanglement entropy in a two dimensional fully backrected model for holographic superconductors. We prove that phase transition could be observe using a discontinuty in the first order of entropy.
We establish our recently proposed holographic entanglement negativity conjecture for mixed states of adjacent subsystems in conformal field theories with concrete higher dimensional examples. In this context we compute the holographic entanglement negativity for mixed states of adjacent subsystems in $d$-dimensional conformal field theories dual to bulk $AdS_{d+1}$ vacuum and $AdS_{d+1}$-Schwarzschild black holes. These representative examples provide strong indication for the universality of our conjecture which affirms significant implications for diverse applications.
In this paper, we study the entanglement entropy in a large class of states of two-dimensional conformal field theory in the the large central charge limit. This class of states includes the states created by the insertion of a finite number of local heavy operators. By using the monodromy analysis, we obtain the leading order entanglement entropy for the general state. We show that it is exactly captured by the Ryu-Takayanagi formula, by using the Wilsonian line prescription in the Chern-Simons formulation of the AdS$_3$ gravity.
We propose a covariant holographic entanglement negativity constructionfor time-dependent mixed states of adjacent intervals in $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal field theories dual to non-static bulk $\mathrm{AdS_3}$ configurations. Our construction applied to $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal field theories with a conserved charge dual to non-extremal and extremal rotating BTZ black holes exactly reproduces the corresponding replica technique results, in the large central charge limit. We also utilize our conjecture to obtain the time-dependent holographic entanglement negativity for the mixed state…
In arXiv:1501.03019 [hep-th], the areas of certain complex extremal surfaces in de Sitter space were found to have resemblance with entanglement entropy in appropriate dual Euclidean non-unitary CFTs, with the area being real and negative in $dS_4$. In this paper, we study some toy models of 2-dim ghost conformal field theories with negative central charge with a view to exploring this further from the CFT point of view. In particular we consider $bc$-ghost systems with central charge $c=-2$ and study the replica formulation for entanglement entropy for a single interval, and associated issues…
Time-dependent entanglement entropy (EE) is computed for a single interval in two-dimensional conformal theories from a quenched initial state in the presence of spatial boundaries. The EE is found to be periodic in time with periodicity equal to the system size $L$. For large enough $L$, the EE shows a rise to a thermal value (characterized by a temperature $1/β$ determined by the initial state), followed by periodic returns to the original value. This works irrespective of whether the conformal field theory (CFT) is rational or irrational. For conformal field theories with a holographic dual…
It is known that the linearized Einstein's equation around the pure $AdS$ can be obtained from the constraint $ ΔS = Δ\left< H \right> $, known as the first law of entanglement, on the boundary $CFT$. The corresponding dual state in the boundary $CFT$ is the vacuum state around which the linear perturbation is taken. In this paper we revisit this question, in the context of $ {AdS}_3/{CFT}_2 $, with the state of the boundary ${CFT}_2$ as a thermal state. The corresponding dual geometry is a planar BTZ black hole. By considering the linearized perturbation around this black brane we show that E…
We propose a holographic entanglement entropy prescription for general states and regions in two models of holography beyond AdS/CFT known as flat$_3$/BMSFT and (W)AdS$_3$/WCFT. Flat$_3$/BMSFT is a candidate of holography for asymptotically flat three-dimensional spacetimes, while (W)AdS$_3$/WCFT is relevant in the study of black holes in the real world. In particular, the boundary theories are examples of quantum field theories that feature an infinite dimensional symmetry group but break Lorentz invariance. Our holographic entanglement entropy proposal is given by the area of a swing surface…
We compute entanglement entropy and differential entropy in inhomogeneous holographic quenches in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$. The quenches are arbitrarily inhomogeneous and modeled by an infalling shell of massless non-rotating matter where the final state is not dual to a static black hole but rather to a black hole with time-dependent stress-energy tensor modes. We study the entanglement entropy of an interval and differential entropy of a family of intervals analytically when the inhomogeneities have a perturbative amplitude and numerically for non-perturbative inhomogeneities. While we are in princip…
We introduce a quantum notion of parallel transport between subsystems of a quantum state whose holonomies characterize the structure of entanglement. In AdS/CFT, entanglement holonomies are reflected in the bulk spacetime connection. When the subsystems are a pair of holographic CFTs in an entangled state, our quantum transport measures Wilson lines threading the dual wormhole. For subregions of a single CFT it is generated by the modular Berry connection and computes the effect of the AdS curvature on the transport of minimal surfaces. Our observation reveals a new aspect of the spacetime-en…
We compute the bulk entanglement entropy of a massive scalar field in a Poincare AdS with the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary condition when we trace out a half space. Moreover, by taking into account the quantum back reaction to the minimal surface area, we calculate how much the entanglement entropy changes under a double-trace deformation of a holographic CFT. In the AdS3/CFT2 setup, our result agrees with the known result in 2d CFTs. In higher dimensions, our results offer holographic predictions.
In analogy to the first law of thermodynamics, the increase in entanglement entropy $δS$ of a conformal field theory (CFT) is proportional to the increase in energy, $δE$, of the subsystem divided by an effective entanglement temperature, $T_E$. Extending this analogy, we study entanglement entropy when the subsystem is perturbed by applying an external field, expressed as a coupling to a local marginal operator in the CFT. We show that the resulting entropy change is associated with a change in the entanglement temperature itself, leading to an equation analogous to the Clausius relation. Usi…
We study universal features in the shape dependence of entanglement entropy in the vacuum state of a conformal field theory (CFT) on $\mathbb{R}^{1,d-1}$. We consider the entanglement entropy across a deformed planar or spherical entangling surface in terms of a perturbative expansion in the infinitesimal shape deformation. In particular, we focus on the second order term in this expansion, known as the entanglement density. This quantity is known to be non-positive by the strong-subadditivity property. We show from a purely field theory calculation that the non-local part of the entanglement …
Recent work has shown that entanglement and the structure of spacetime are intimately related. One way to investigate this is to begin with an entanglement entropy in a conformal field theory (CFT) and use the AdS/CFT correspondence to calculate the bulk metric. We perform this calculation for ABJM, a particular 3-dimensional supersymmetric CFT (SCFT), in its ground state. In particular we are able to reconstruct the pure AdS4 metric from the holographic entanglement entropy of the boundary ABJM theory in its ground state. Moreover, we are able to predict the correct AdS radius purely from ent…
