In this paper the rigid cohomology of Drinfeld's upper half space over a finite field is computed in two ways. The first method proceeds by computation of the rigid cohomology of the complement of Drinfeld's upper half space in the ambient projective space and then use of the associated long exact sequence for rigid cohomology with proper supports. The second method proceeds by direct computation of rigid cohomology as a direct limit of de Rham cohomologies of a family of strict open neighborhoods of the tube of Drinfeld's upper half space in the ambient rigid-analytic projective space. The resulting cohomology formula has been known since 2007, when Grosse-Kloenne proved that it is the same as the one obtained from l-adic cohomology.
For each positive integer $r$, we construct a nowhere-vanishing, single-cuspidal Drinfeld modular form for $\GL_r(\FF_q[θ])$, necessarily of least possible weight, via determinants using rigid analytic trivializations of the universal Drinfeld module of rank $r$ and deformations of vectorial Eisenstein series. Along the way, we deduce that the cycle class map from de Rham cohomology to Betti cohomology is an isomorphism for Drinfeld modules of all ranks over $\FF_q[θ]$.
We compute the integral $p$-adic étale cohomology of Drinfeld symmetric spaces of any dimension. This refines the computation of the rational $p$-adic étale cohomology from Colmez-Dospinescu-Nizioł. The main tools are: the computation of the integral de Rham cohomology from CDN and the integral $p$-adic comparison theorems of Bhatt-Morrow-Scholze and Česnavičius-Koshikawa which replace the quasi-integral comparison theorem of Tsuji used in CDN.
We determine the geometric pro-étale cohomology of Drinfeld's upper half space ${\mathcal X}$ over a p-adic field. The strategy is different from the one given by Colmez, Dospinescu and Niziol. It uses the approach developed in a former paper of the author describing global sections of equivariant vector bundles on ${\mathcal X}$.
We introduce differential characters of Drinfeld modules. These are function-field analogues of Buium's p-adic differential characters of elliptic curves and of Manin's differential characters of elliptic curves in differential algebra, both of which have had notable Diophantine applications. We determine the structure of the group of differential characters. This shows the existence of a family of interesting differential modular functions on the moduli of Drinfeld modules. It also leads to a canonical $F$-crystal equipped with a map to the de Rham cohomology of the Drinfeld module. This $F$-…
We evaluate a rigid analytical analogue of the Beilinson-Bloch-Deligne regulator on certain explicit elements in the K_2 of Drinfeld modular curves, constructed from analogues of modular units, and relate its value to special values of L-series using the Rankin-Selberg method.
Let X be Drinfeld's half space over a p-adic field K. The de Rham cohomology of X was first computed by Schneider and Stuhler. Afterwards there were given different proofs by Alon, de Shalit, Iovita and Spiess. This paper presents yet another approach for the determination of these invariants by analysing the de Rham complex of X from the viewpoint of recent results by the author.
In this article, we give an explicit description of the invertible functions on the Drinfeld symmetric space over $K$ a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. We identify them with some distribution spaces over the profinite set of $K$-rationnal points of the projective space. The strategy consists of constructing a map from these distributions to the invertible functions following the methods of Schneider-Stuhler, Iovita-Spiess, de Shalit. We show that it is compatible with the isomorphisms they constructed to compute étale and de Rham cohomology in degree $1$ and that this property forces our d…
We prove a Hodge-type decomposition for the de-Rham cohomology of $ p$-adically uniformized varieties by the product of Drinfeld's symmetric spaces. It is based on work of Schneider, Stuhler, Iovita and Spiess on the cohomology of Drinfeld's symmetric space.
Let $K$ be a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. We study the geometry and cohomology of the tamely ramified cover of Drinfeld's symmetric space over $K.$ We prove, in a purely local way, that the cohomology in middle degree realises the local Langlands correspondence and local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence for the depth zero supercuspidal representations.
We study the geometry and the cohomology of the tamely ramified cover of Drinfeld's $p$-adic symmetric space. For this tame level, we prove, in a purely local way, most of a conjecture of Harris on the form of the $\ell$-adic cohomologies, as well as the torsion freeness of the integral cohomology. During the study, we obtain some results of independent interest on the coefficient systems over the Bruhat-Tits building associated to $GL_d(K).$
We compute the p-adic geometric étale cohomology of the coverings of Drinfeld's half-plane, and we show that, if the base field is Q_p, this cohomology encodes the p-adic local Langlands correspondence for 2-dimensional de Rham representations (of weight 0 and 1).
Introduced by Anglès, Pellarin, and Tavares Ribeiro, Drinfeld modules over Tate algebras are closely connected to Anderson log-algebraicity identities, Pellarin $L$-series, and Taelman class modules. In the present paper we define the de Rham map for Drinfeld modules over Tate algebras, and we prove that it is an isomorphism under natural hypotheses. As part of this investigation we determine further criteria for the uniformizability and rigid analytic triviality of Drinfeld modules over Tate algebras.
We introduce and study certain deformations of Drinfeld quasi-modular forms by using rigid analytic trivialisations of corresponding Anderson's t-motives. We show that a sub-algebra of these deformations has a natural graduation by the group Z^2 x Z/(q-1)Z and an homogeneous automorphism, and we deduce from this and other properties multiplicity estimates.
We show that if two singular points $x' \in X'$ and $x \in X$ on schemes over a field $k$ of characteristic $p > 0$ are contact equivalent then the rigid cohomology spaces $H^{\bullet}_{rig, \{x\}}(X)$ and $H^{\bullet}_{rig, \{x'\}}(X')$ are isomorphic. The isomorphism that we construct is moreover compatible with the Frobenius structure on rigid cohomology.
For a smooth scheme over a perfect field of characteristic p>0, we generalise a definition of Bloch and introduce overconvergent de Rham-Witt connections. This provides a tool to extend the comparison morphisms of Davis, Langer and Zink between overconvergent de Rham-Witt cohomology and Monsky-Washnitzer respectively rigid cohomology to coefficients.
We generalize the functorial quasi-isomorphism in \cite{Davis2011} from overconvergent Witt de-Rham cohomology to rigid cohomology on smooth varieties over a finite field $k$, dropping the quasi-projectiveness condition. We do so by constructing an \et ale hypercover for any smooth scheme $X$, refined at each level to be a disjoint union of open standard smooth subschemes of $X$. We then find, for large $N$, an $N$-truncated closed embedding into a simplicial smooth scheme over $W(k)$, which allows us to use the results of \textit{loc. cit} at the simplicial level, and use cohomological descen…
We introduce rigid syntomic cohomology for strictly semistable log schemes over a complete discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristic (0,p). In case a good compactification exists, we compare this cohomology theory to Nekovář-Nizioł's crystalline syntomic cohomology of the generic fibre. The main ingredients are a modification of Große-Klönne's rigid Hyodo-Kato theory and a generalisation of it for strictly semistable log schemes with boundary.
In this article, we use deformation theory of Galois representations valued in the symplectic group of degree four to prove a freeness result for the cohomology of certain quaternionic unitary Shimura variety over the universal deformation ring for certain type of residual representation satisfying a property called rigidity. This result plays an important role in the proof of the arithmetic level raising theorem for the symplectic similitude group of degree four over the field of rational numbers by the author.
The Drinfeld upper half-planes play the role of symmetric spaces in the $p$-adic analytic world. We find the automorphism group of a product of such spaces, where each may be defined over a different field. We deduce a rigidity theorem for quotients of such products by discrete and torsion free groups.
We construct the compatible system of $l$-adic representations associated to a regular algebraic cuspidal automorphic representation of $GL_n$ over a CM (or totally real) field and check local-global compatibility for the $l$-adic representation away from $l$ and finite number of rational primes above which the CM field or the automorphic representation ramify. The main innovation is that we impose no self-duality hypothesis on the automorphic representation.
We compute the $p$-adic étale and the pro-étale cohomologies of the Drinfeld half-space of any dimension. The main input is a new comparison theorem for the $p$-adic pro-étale cohomology of $p$-adic Stein spaces.
We define de Rham cohomology groups for rigid spaces over non-archimedean fields of characteristic zero, based on the notion of dagger space. We establish some functorial properties and a finiteness result, and discuss the relation to the rigid cohomology as defined by P. Berthelot.
For a big class of smooth dagger spaces --- dagger spaces are 'rigid spaces with overconvergent structure sheaf' --- we prove finite dimensionality of de Rham cohomology. This is enough to obtain finiteness of Berthelot's rigid cohomology also in the non-smooth case. We need a careful study of de Rham cohomology in situations of semi-stable reduction.
We prove the weight-monodromy conjecture for varieties which are p-adically uniformized by a product of the Drinfeld upper half spaces. It is an easy consequence of Dat's work on the cohomology complex of the Drinfeld upper half space.
We study a certain compactification of the Drinfeld period domain over a finite field which arises naturally in the context of Drinfeld moduli spaces. Its boundary is a disjoint union of period domains of smaller rank, but these are glued together in a way that is dual to how they are glued in the compactification by projective space. This compactification is normal and singular along all boundary strata of codimension $\ge2$. We study its geometry from various angles including the projective coordinate ring with its Hilbert function, the cohomology of twisting sheaves, the dualizing sheaf, an…
We define a de Rham cohomology theory for analytic varieties over a valued field $K^\flat$ of equal characteristic $p$ with coefficients in a chosen untilt of the perfection of $K^\flat$ by means of the motivic version of Scholze's tilting equivalence. We show that this definition generalizes the usual rigid cohomology in case the variety has good reduction. We also prove a conjecture of Ayoub yielding an equivalence between rigid analytic motives with good reduction and unipotent algebraic motives over the residue field, also in mixed characteristic.
Motivated by applications in point counting algorithms using p-adic cohomology, we give an explicit description of integral lattices in rigid cohomology spaces that p-adically approximate logarithmic crystalline cohomology modules. These lattices are expressed in terms of the global sections of the twisted logarithmic de Rham complex. We prove the main theorem for smooth proper hypersurfaces with a smooth hyperplane section, then deduce the result for the quotient of such a pair in weighted projective space. We show how these results may be used to reduce the necessary p-adic precision with wh…
We prove that the cohomology groups of an etale Q_p-local system on a smooth proper rigid analytic space are finite-dimensional Q_p-vector spaces, provided that the base field is either a finite extension of Q_p or an algebraically closed nonarchimedean field containing Q_p. This result manifests as a special case of a more general finiteness result for the higher direct images of a relative (phi, Gamma)-module along a smooth proper morphism of rigid analytic spaces over a mixed-characterstic nonarchimedean field.
The goal of this article is to prove a comparison theorem between rigid cohomology and cohomology computed using the theory of arithmetic $\mathscr{D}$-modules. To do this, we construct a specialisation functor from Le Stum's category of constructible isocrystals to the derived category of arithmetic $\mathscr{D}$-modules. For objects `of Frobenius type', we show that the essential image of this functor consists of overholonomic $\mathscr{D}^\dagger$-modules, and lies inside the heart of the dual constructible t-structure. We use this to give a more global construction of Caro's specialisation…
We introduce a "limiting Frobenius structure" attached to any degeneration of projective varieties over a finite field of characteristic p which satisfies a p-adic lifting assumption. Our limiting Frobenius structure is shown to be effectively computable in an appropriate sense for a degeneration of projective hypersurfaces. We conjecture that the limiting Frobenius structure relates to the rigid cohomology of a semistable limit of the degeneration through an analogue of the Clemens-Schmidt exact sequence. Our construction is illustrated, and conjecture supported, by a selection of explicit ex…

This is the first in a series of papers in which we construct and study a new $p$-adic cohomology theory for varieties over Laurent series fields $k(\!(t)\!)$ in characteristic $p$. This will be a version of rigid cohomology, taking values in the bounded Robba ring $\mathcal{E}_K^\dagger$, and in this paper, we give the basic definitions and constructions. The cohomology theory we define can be viewed as a relative version of Berthelot's rigid cohomology, and is constructed by compactifying $k(\!(t)\!)$-varieties as schemes over $k[\![ t]\!]$ rather than over $k(\!(t)\!)$. We reprove the found…
We prove some $\ell$-independence results on local constancy of étale cohomology of rigid analytic varieties. As a result, we show that a closed subscheme of a proper scheme over an algebraically closed complete non-archimedean field has a small open neighborhood in the analytic topology such that, for every prime number $\ell$ different from the residue characteristic, the closed subscheme and the open neighborhood have the same étale cohomology with $\mathbb Z/\ell \mathbb Z$-coefficients. The existence of such an open neighborhood for each $\ell$ was proved by Huber. A key ingredient in the…
In this paper we prove that the $\mathcal{E}^\dagger_K$-valued cohomology, introduced in [9] is finite dimensional for smooth curves over Laurent series fields $k((t))$ in positive characteristic, and forms an $\mathcal{E}^\dagger_K$-lattice inside `classical' $\mathcal{E}_K$-valued rigid cohomology. We do so by proving a suitable version of the p-adic local monodromy theory over $\mathcal{E}^\dagger_K$, and then using an étale pushforward for smooth curves to reduce to the case of $\mathbb{A}^1$. We then introduce $\mathcal{E}^\dagger_K$-valued cohomology with compact supports, and again prov…
We compute, in a stable range, the arithmetic p-adic etale cohomology of smooth rigid analytic and dagger varieties (without any assumption on the existence of a nice integral model) in terms of differential forms using syntomic methods. The main technical input is a construction of a Hyodo-Kato cohomology and a Hyodo-Kato isomorphism with de Rham cohomology.
