We investigate the single-particle and collective excitations of a Rashba spin-orbit coupled atomic Fermi gas with attractive interaction, loaded in a two dimensional (2D) square optical lattice, in the presence of an effective out-of-plane Zeeman field. Our numerical calculations show that the many body physics of the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) side is strongly modified compared to the Fermi gases in the free space. The physics behind this statement is in the fact that without a lattice structure, if the value of the Zeeman field does not exceed some threshold value, the minimum of the single-particle ground state energy is infinitely degenerate and occurs along a ring in $(k_x,k_y)$ space. This reduces the effective dimensionality; the single-particle density of states is a constant at low energies, and the molecular pairing is strongly enhanced. In contrast to the continuum, in the 2D lattice case there are only four degenerate minima, and because of that, the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in optical lattices gives rise to unusual properties entirely different from the continuum. For example, in the continuum, the pairing gap as well as the condensate fraction are strongly enhanced by the SOC strength on the BCS side. In the presence of lattice geometry the gap and the condensate fraction increase as a function of the SOC strength only at the small fillings and weak attraction limit. Moreover, we found that the speed of sound also exhibits different behavior: in the 3D and 2D continuum, the slope of the Goldstone mode decreases as a function of the SOC strength, while in the lattice case the speed of sound increases monotonically with SOC strength.

The thermoelectric effect in a two-dimensional (2D) massless Dirac fermion (DF) system at the quantum limit is discussed to verify the prediction of high-performance thermopower in an organic conductor α-(BEDT-TTF)2I3. Because of relatively large Zeeman splitting in α-(BEDT-TTF)2I3, the boundless increase of thermopower at high magnetic fields, predicted without the Zeeman effect, is hardly expected, whereas there appears to be a broad local maximum. This is characteristic of 2D DF systems with Zeeman splitting and is recognized in the previous experiment. In contrast to 3D Dirac/Weyl semimeta…

In Phys. Rev. Lett. 106,137002(2011),A.
The electronic structure of heavy-fermion materials is highly renormalised at low temperatures with localised moments contributing to the electronic excitation spectrum via the Kondo effect. Thus, heavy-fermion materials are very susceptible to Lifshitz transitions due to the small effective Fermi energy arising on parts of the renormalised Fermi surface. Here, we study Lifshitz transitions that have been discovered in YbNi4P2 in high magnetic fields. We measure the angular dependence of the critical fields necessary to induce a number of Lifshitz transitions and find it to follow a simple Zee…
Using the determinant quantum Monte Carlo method, we investigate the antiferromagnetic phase transition that is induced by the Zeeman field in a disordered interacting two-dimensional Dirac fermion system. At a fixed interaction strength $U$, the antiferromagnetic correlation is enhanced as the magnetic filed increases, and when the magnetic field is larger than a $B_{c}(U)$, the antiferromagnetic correlation shall be suppressed by the increased magnetic field. The impact of Zeeman field $B$, Coulomb repulsion $U$ and disorder $Δ$ is not isolated. The intensity of magnetic field effect on the …
Motivated by recent experimental processes, we systemically investigate strongly correlated spin-1 ultracold bosons trapped in a three-dimensional optical lattice in the presence of an external magnetic field. Based on a recently developed bosonic dynamical mean-field theory (BDMFT), we map out complete phase diagrams of the system for both antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions, where various phases are found as a result of the interplay of spin-dependent interaction and quadratic Zeeman energy. For antiferromagnetic interactions, the system demonstrates competing magnetic orders, i…
Fermions in the Fermi gas obey the Pauli exclusion principle restricting any two fermions from filling the same quantum state. Strong interaction between fermions can completely change the properties of the Fermi gas. In our theoretical study we find a new exotic quantum phase in strongly interacting Fermi gases constrained to a certain condition imposed on the Fermi surfaces which we call the Fermi surface resonance. The new phase is quantum critical which can be identified by the power-law frequency tail of the spectral density and divergent static susceptibilities. An especially striking fe…
We probe quantum oscillations in nodal line semimetals (NLSM) by considering a NLSM continuum model under strong magnetic field and report the characteristics of the Landau level spectra and the fluctuations in the Fermi level as the field in a direction perpendicular to the nodal plane is varied through. Based on the results on parallel magnetization, we demonstrate the growth of quantum oscillation with field strength as well as its constancy in period when plotted against 1/B. We find that the density of states which show series of peaks in succession, witness bifurcation of those peaks due…
Achieving a higher superfluid transition $T_c$ has been a goal for the fields of superconductivity and atomic Fermi gases. Here we propose that, by using mixed dimensionality, one may achieve ultra high temperature superfluids in two component atomic Fermi gases, where one component feels a regular three-dimensional (3D) continuum space, while the other is subject to a 1D optic lattice potential. Via tuning the lattice spacing and trap depth, one can effectively raise the Fermi level dramatically upon pairing so that superfluidity may occur at an ultra high temperature (in units of Fermi energ…

The zero-temperature and finite-temperature thermodynamics of two-component Fermi gases with finite-range attractive interaction suffer from fermion sign problem, which seems like an insurmountable problem in exact numerical simulations. In a recent work, we find a reliable method to simulate the thermodynamic properties of single-component Fermi gases for both noninteracting and repulsively interacting cases based on the method of parametrized partition function and the $ξ_E$ curve of constant energy. In the present work, this method is generalized to two-component Fermi gases with finite-ran…
