We conjecture a new way to construct eigenstates of integrable XXX quantum spin chains with SU(N) symmetry. The states are built by repeatedly acting on the vacuum with a single operator Bgood(u) evaluated at the Bethe roots. Our proposal serves as a compact alternative to the usual nested algebraic Bethe ansatz. Furthermore, the roots of this operator give the separated variables of the model, explicitly generalizing Sklyanin's approach to the SU(N) case. We present many tests of the conjecture and prove it in several special cases. We focus on rational spin chains with fundamental representation at each site, but expect many of the results to be valid more generally.
We present the simple and direct proof of the determinantal formula for the scalar product of Bethe eigenstate with an arbitrary dual state. We briefly review the direct calculation of the general scalar product with the help of the factorizing operator and the construction of the factorizing operator itself. We also comment on the previous determination of the scalar product of Bethe eigenstate with an arbitrary dual state.
In this article we study the relation between the eigenstates of open rational spin $\frac{1}{2}$ Heisenberg chains with different boundary conditions. The focus lies on the relation between the spin chain with diagonal boundary conditions and the spin chain with triangular boundary conditions as well as the class of spin chains that can be brought to such form by certain similarity transformations in the physical space. The boundary driven Symmetric Simple Exclusion Process (open SSEP) belongs to the latter. We derive a transformation that maps the eigenvectors of the diagonal spin chain to t…
The problem of separation of variables (SoV) in supersymmetric spin chains is closely related to the calculation of correlation functions in N=4 SYM theory which is integrable in the planar limit. To address this question we find a compact formula for the spin chain eigenstates, which does not have any sums over auxiliary roots one usually gets in the widely adopted nested Bethe ansatz. Our construction only involves one application of a simple Bg(u_k) operator to the reference state for each of the magnons, in complete analogy with the su(2) algebraic Bethe ansatz. This generalizes our SoV ba…
The second reference state of the open XXZ spin chain with non-diagonal boundary terms is studied. The associated Bethe states exactly yield the second set of eigenvalues proposed recently by functional Bethe Ansatz. In the quasi-classical limit, two sets of Bethe states give the complete eigenstates of the associated Gaudin model.
Generic inhomogeneous integrable XXZ chains with arbitrary spins are studied by means of the quantum separation of variables (SOV) method. Within this framework, a complete description of the spectrum (eigenvalues and eigenstates) of the antiperiodic transfer matrix is derived in terms of discrete systems of equations involving the inhomogeneity parameters of the model. We show here that one can reformulate this discrete SOV characterization of the spectrum in terms of functional T-Q equations of Baxter's type, hence proving the completeness of the solutions to the associated systems of Bethe-…
We study the implications of the regularization for the singular solutions on the even(odd) length spin-1/2 XXX chains in some specific down-spin sectors. In particular, the analytic expressions of the Bethe eigenstates for three down-spin sector have been obtained along with their numerical forms in some fixed length chains. For an even-length chain if the singular solutions \{λ_α\} are invariant under the sign changes of their rapidities {λ_α\}=\{-λ_α\} , then the Bethe ansatz equations are reduced to a system of (M-2)/2 ((M-3)/2) equations in an even (odd) down-spin sector. For an odd N len…
We use the quantum separation of variable (SOV) method to construct the eigenstates of the open XXZ chain with the most general boundary terms. The eigenstates in the inhomogeneous case are constructed in terms of solutions of a system of quadratic equations. This SOV representation permits us to compute scalar products and can be used to calculate form factors and correlation functions.
Using some modification of the standard fermion technique we derive factorized formula for spin operator matrix elements (form-factors) between general eigenstates of the Hamiltonian of quantum Ising chain in a transverse field of finite length. The derivation is based on the approach recently used to derive factorized formula for Z_N-spin operator matrix elements between ground eigenstates of the Hamiltonian of the Z_N-symmetric superintegrable chiral Potts quantum chain. The obtained factorized formulas for the matrix elements of Ising chain coincide with the corresponding expressions obtain…
An orthogonal basis of the Hilbert space for the quantum spin chain associated with the su(3) algebra is introduced. Such kind of basis could be treated as a nested generalization of separation of variables (SoV) basis for high-rank quantum integrable models. It is found that all the monodromy-matrix elements acting on a basis vector take simple forms. With the help of the basis, we construct eigenstates of the su(3) inhomogeneous spin torus (the trigonometric su(3) spin chain with antiperiodic boundary condition) from its spectrum obtained via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz (ODBA). Based on sm…
Quantum error correction was invented to allow for fault-tolerant quantum computation. Systems with topological order turned out to give a natural physical realization of quantum error correcting codes (QECC) in their groundspaces. More recently, in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence, it has been argued that eigenstates of CFTs with a holographic dual should also form QECCs. These two examples raise the question of how generally eigenstates of many-body models form quantum codes. In this work we establish new connections between quantum chaos and translation-invariance in many-body spin…
We recently showed [Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 220602 (2018)] that the average bipartite entanglement entropy of all energy eigenstates of the quantum Ising chain exhibits a universal (for translationally invariant quadratic fermionic models) leading term that scales linearly with the subsystem's volume, while in the thermodynamic limit the first subleading correction does not vanish at the critical field (it only depends on the ratio $f$ between the volume of the subsystem and volume of the system) and vanishes otherwise. Here we show, analytically for bounds and numerically for averages, that the…
We continue to study the excited states for the XXZ- spin chain corresponding to the complex roots of the Bethe Ansatz equations with the imaginary part equal to $π/2$. We propose the particle-hole symmetry which relates the eigenstates build up from the two different pseudovacuum states. We find the XXX- spin chain limit for the eigenstates with the complex roots. We also comment on the low-energy excited states for the XXZ- spin chain.
We demonstrate that quantum Hamiltonian operator for a free transverse field within the framework of the second quantization reveals an alternative set of states satisfying the eigenstate functional equations. The construction is based upon extensions of the quadratic form of the transverse Laplace operator which are used as a source of spherical basis functions with singularity at the origin. This basis then naturally takes place of the one of plane or spherical waves in the process of Fourrier or spherical variable separation.
The finite XXZ spin chain with boundaries is studied. We derive the transfer matrix from the q-difference equation discovered by Cherednik and construct its eigenstates by the vertex operator approach. We point out that the eigenstates with no magnetic fields have a symmetry called the turning symmetry. Making use of this symmetry we calculate the spontaneous magnetization in the thermodynamic limit, which is roughly twice as large as that in the half-infinite XXZ spin chain.
We consider the XXX open spin-1/2 chain with the most general non-diagonal boundary terms, that we solve by means of the quantum separation of variables (SoV) approach. We compute the scalar products of separate states, a class of states which notably contains all the eigenstates of the model. As usual for models solved by SoV, these scalar products can be expressed as some determinants with a non-trivial dependance in terms of the inhomogeneity parameters that have to be introduced for the method to be applicable. We show that these determinants can be transformed into alternative ones in whi…
Based on the inhomogeneous T-Q relation constructed via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz, the Bethe-type eigenstates of the XXZ spin-1/2 chain with arbitrary boundary fields are constructed. It is found that by employing two sets of gauge transformations, proper generators and reference state for constructing Bethe vectors can be obtained respectively. Given an inhomogeneous T-Q relation for an eigenvalue, it is proven that the resulting Bethe state is an eigenstate of the transfer matrix, provided that the parameters of the generators satisfy the associated Bethe Ansatz equations.
We pursue our study of the antiperiodic dynamical 6-vertex model using Sklyanin's separation of variables approach, allowing in the model new possible global shifts of the dynamical parameter. We show in particular that the spectrum and eigenstates of the antiperiodic transfer matrix are completely characterized by a system of discrete equations. We prove the existence of different reformulations of this characterization in terms of functional equations of Baxter's type. We notably consider the homogeneous functional $T$-$Q$ equation which is the continuous analog of the aforementioned discret…
Statistical models corresponding to a new class of braid matrices ($\hat{o}_N; N\geq 3$) presented in a previous paper are studied. Indices labeling states spanning the $N^r$ dimensional base space of $T^{(r)}(θ)$, the $r$-th order transfer matrix are so chosen that the operators $W$ (the sum of the state labels) and (CP) (the circular permutation of state labels) commute with $T^{(r)}(θ)$. This drastically simplifies the construction of eigenstates, reducing it to solutions of relatively small number of simultaneous linear equations. Roots of unity play a crucial role. Thus for diagonalizing …
We find an exact expression for the bipartite fidelity f=|<vac|vac>'|^2, where |vac> is the vacuum eigenstate of an infinite-size antiferromagnetic XXZ chain and |vac>' is the vacuum eigenstate of an infinite-size XXZ chain which is split in two. We consider the quantity -ln(f) which has been put forward as a measure of quantum entanglement, and show that the large correlation length xi behaviour is consistent with a general conjecture -ln(f) ~ c/8 ln(xi), where c is the central charge of the UV conformal field theory (with c=1 for the XXZ chain). This behaviour is a natural extension of the e…
In this paper we consider the spin 1/2 highest weight representations for the 6-vertex Yang-Baxter algebra on a finite lattice and analyze the integrable quantum models associated to the antiperiodic transfer matrix. For these models, which in the homogeneous limit reproduces the XXZ spin 1/2 quantum chains with antiperiodic boundary conditions, we obtain in the framework of Sklyanin's quantum separation of variables (SOV) the following results: I) The complete characterization of the transfer matrix spectrum (eigenvalues/eigenstates) and the proof of its simplicity. II) The reconstruction of …
By combining the algebraic Bethe ansatz and the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz, we investigate the trigonometric SU(3) model with generic open boundaries. The eigenvalues of the transfer matrix are given in terms of an inhomogeneous T-Q relation, and the corresponding eigenstates are expressed in terms of nested Bethe-type eigenstates which have well-defined homogeneous limit. This exact solution provides a basis for further analyzing the thermodynamic properties and correlation functions of the anisotropic models associated with higher rank algebras.
We provide a proposal, motivated by Separation of Variables and gauge theory arguments, for constructing exact solutions to the quantum Baxter equation associated to the $N$-particle relativistic Toda chain and test our proposal against numerical results. Quantum Mechanical non-perturbative corrections, essential in order to obtain a sensible solution, are taken into account in our gauge theory approach by considering codimension two defects on curved backgrounds (squashed $S^5$ and degenerate limits) rather than flat space; this setting also naturally incorporates exact quantization condition…
Using the algebro-geometric approach, we study the structure of semi-classical eigenstates in a weakly-anisotropic quantum Heisenberg spin chain. We outline how classical nonlinear spin waves governed by the anisotropic Landau-Lifshitz equation arise as coherent macroscopic low-energy fluctuations of the ferromagnetic ground state. Special emphasis is devoted to the simplest types of solutions, describing precessional motion and elliptic magnetisation waves. The internal magnon structure of classical spin waves is resolved by performing the semi-classical quantisation using the Riemann-Hilbert…
We discuss eigenstate correlations for ergodic, spatially extended many-body quantum systems, in terms of the statistical properties of matrix elements of local observables. While the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) is known to give an excellent description of these quantities, the butterfly effect implies structure beyond ETH. We determine the universal form of this structure at long distances and small eigenvalue separations for Floquet systems. We use numerical studies of a Floquet quantum circuit to illustrate both the accuracy of ETH and the existence of our predicted additiona…
The relativistic quantum Toda chain model is studied with the generalized algebraic Bethe Ansatz method. By employing a set of local gauge transformations, proper local vacuum states can be obtained for this model. The exact spectrum and eigenstates of the model are thus constructed simultaneously.
In this review, I describe a recent approach based on the representation theory of the $q-$Onsager algebra which is used to derive exact results for the XXZ open spin chain. The complete spectrum and eigenstates are obtained as rational functions of a single variable which discrete values correspond to the roots of a certain characteristic polynomial. Comments and open problems are also presented.
Universal properties of a critical quantum spin chain are encoded in the underlying conformal field theory (CFT). This underlying CFT is fully characterized by its conformal data. We propose a method to extract the conformal data from a critical quantum spin chain with both periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions (PBC and APBC) based on low-energy eigenstates, generalizing previous work on spin chains with only PBC. First, scaling dimensions and conformal spins are extracted from the energies and momenta of the eigenstates. Second, the Koo-Saleur formula of lattice Virasoro generators i…
We apply the Sklyanin method of separation of variables to the reflection algebra underlying the open spin-1/2 XXX chain with non-diagonal boundary fields. The spectral problem can be formulated in terms of a TQ-equation which leads to the known Bethe equations for boundary parameters satisfying a constraint. For generic boundary parameters we study the asymptotic behaviour of the solutions of the TQ-equation.
We explore an alternative way of finding the link between a PT non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and a Hermitian one. Based on the analysis of the scattering problem for an imaginary potential and its time reversal process, it is shown that any real-energy eigenstate of a PT tight-binding lattice with on-site imaginary potentials shares the same wave function with a resonant transmission state of the corresponding Hermitian lattice embedded in a chain. It indicates that the PT eigenstate of a PT non-Hermitian Hamiltonian has connection to the resonance transmission state of the extended Hermitian Hami…
There are two fundamental problems studied by the theory of hamiltonian integrable systems: integration of equations of motion, and construction of action-angle variables. The third problem, however, should be added to the list: separation of variables. Though much simpler than two others, it has important relations to the quantum integrability. Separation of variables is constructed for the $SL(3)$ magnetic chain --- an example of integrable model associated to a nonhyperelliptic algebraic curve.
We calculate directly the interaction energy of the eigenstate with the single particle and the single hole for the XXZ-spin chain. We find the connection of this addition to the energy with the two-particle forward scattering phase shift function. The results can have applications to the calculation of the exponents of the threshold singularities in the correlators of the XXZ-spin chain.
The Functional Bethe Ansatz (FBA) proposed by Sklyanin is a method which gives separation variables for systems for which an $R$-matrix is known. Previously the FBA was only known for $SL(2)$ and $SL(3)$ (and associated) $R$-matrices. In this paper I advance Sklyanin's program by giving the FBA for certain systems with $SL(N)$ $R$-matrices. This is achieved by constructing rational functions $\A(u)$ and $\B(u)$ of the matrix elements of $T(u)$, so that, in the generic case, the zeros $x_i$ of $\B(u)$ are the separation coordinates and the $P_i=\A(x_i)$ provide their conjugate momenta. The meth…
