We propose a practical effective model by introducing temperature ($T$) dependence to the coupling strengths of four-quark and six-quark Kobayashi-Maskawa-'t Hooft interactions in the 2+1 flavor Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The $T$ dependence is determined from LQCD data on the renormalized chiral condensate around the pseudocritical temperature $T_c^χ$ of chiral crossover and the screening-mass difference between $π$ and $a_0$ mesons in $T > 1.1T_c^χ$ where only the $U(1)_{\rm A}$-symmetry breaking survives. The model well reproduces LQCD data on screening masses $M_ξ^{\rm scr}(T)$ for both scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, particularly in $T \ge T_c^χ$. Using this effective model, we predict meson pole masses $M_ξ^{\rm pole}(T)$ for scalar and pseudoscalar mesons. For $η'$ meson, the prediction is consistent with the experimental value at finite $T$ measured in heavy-ion collisions. We point out that the relation $M_ξ^{\rm scr}(T)-M_ξ^{\rm pole}(T) \approx M_{ξ'}^{\rm scr}(T)-M_{ξ'}^{\rm pole}(T)$ is pretty good when $ξ$ and $ξ'$ are scalar mesons, and show that the relation $M_ξ^{\rm scr}(T)/M_{ξ'}^{\rm scr}(T) \approx M_ξ^{\rm pole}(T)/M_{ξ'}^{\rm pole}(T)$ is well satisfied within 20% error when $ξ$ and $ξ'$ are pseudoscalar mesons and also when $ξ$ and $ξ'$ are scalar mesons.
We present results for screening masses of light and strange mesons in 2+1 flavour QCD using improved (p4fat3) staggered fermions on 6x24^3 lattices. We have studied the screening masses of scalar, pseudo-scalar, vector and axial-vector mesons along the line of constant physics, determined by a pion mass ~220 MeV and a kaon mass ~500 MeV. In order to investigate the cut-off and volume dependencies we have also performed studies of the meson screening correlators in the non-interacting theory using the p4 and the standard staggered discretizations.
We compute flavor non-singlet meson screening masses in the chiral limit of QCD with $N_f=3$ quarks. The calculation is carried out at 12 temperatures from $T\approx 1$ GeV up to the electroweak scale. For each temperature we simulated several lattice spacings, so as to be able to perform the continuum limit extrapolation with confidence at a few permille accuracy. In the entire range of temperatures explored, the meson screening masses deviate from the free theory result $2πT$ by at most a few percent. Their values, however, cannot be explained by one-loop perturbation theory up to the electr…
Temperature dependence of pion and sigma-meson screening masses is evaluated by the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with the entanglement vertex (EPNJL model). We propose a practical way of calculating meson screening masses in the NJL-type effective models. The method based on the Pauli-Villars regularization solves the well-known difficulty that the evaluation of screening masses is not easy in the NJL-type effective models. The method is applied to analyze temperature dependence of pion screening masses calculated with state-of-the-art lattice simulations with success in re…

We first extend our formulation for the calculation of $π$- and $σ$-meson screening masses to the case of finite chemical potential $μ$. We then consider the imaginary-$μ$ approach, which is an extrapolation method from imaginary chemical potential ($μ=i μ_{\rm I}$) to real one ($μ=μ_{\rm R}$). The feasibility of the method is discussed based on the entanglement Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (EPNJL) model in 2-flavor system. As an example, we investigate how reliable the imaginary-$μ$ approach is for $π$- and $σ$-meson screening masses, comparing "screening masses at $μ_{\rm R}$ i…
We calculate the spectral function in pseudoscalar (scalar) channel in the high temperature phase of QCD in presence of a background magnetic field. Spatial and temporal screening masses are determined from the long distance behavior of the corresponding correlation functions.
Recently, state-of-art LQCD calculations were done for $π$-meson and $ρ$-meson screening mass, ${M_π^{\rm scr}}(T)$ and ${M_ρ^{\rm scr}}(T)$. We consider the two-flavor system, and focus on temperature dependence $T$ of ${M_π^{\rm scr}}(T)$ and ${M_ρ^{\rm scr}}(T)$. Our aim is to construct a model consistent with LQCD data on ${M_ρ^{\rm scr}}(T)$ and ${M_π^{\rm scr}}(T)$.
We present lattice QCD results for the screening masses of light mesons and charmonia. The lattice computations were performed with 2+1 flavors of improved staggered quarks using quark masses which correspond to realistic pion and kaon masses at zero temperature. For the light quark sector we have found that the screening masses in the pseudo-scalar and the isovector scalar channels do not become degenerate at the chiral crossover temperature indicating an effective non-restoration of the axial symmetry. Also the splitting between the vector and the pseudo-scalar screening masses persists even…
Lattice studies of QCD at high temperature has investigated the so called ``screening masses", corresponding to quark-antiquark states propagating in $spatial$ (rather than time) direction. Thirty years ago we pointed out that those should correspond to states of 2+1 dimensional quarkonia, and in this work we show that this correspondence provide quantitative description of the lattice data.

We study the final state interaction in 3-pion decay of meson resonances at the Excited Baryon Analysis Center (EBAC) of JLab. We apply the dynamical coupled-channels formulation which has been extensively used by EBAC to extract N* information. The formulation satisfies the 3-pion unitarity condition which has been missed in the existing works with the isobar models. We report the effect of the 3-pion unitarity on the meson resonance pole positions and Dalitz plot.
We investigate the screening masses of neutral pions and sigma mesons in hot and magnetized quark matter in the framework of a two-flavor lattice-improved Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with a magnetic field dependent coupling constant, which is determined by utilizing the results from lattice QCD simulations. Since such model can well reproduce inverse magnetic catalysis (IMC), by comparing with the standard NJL model, we systemically analyze the impacts of IMC on the temperature and magnetic field dependences of the longitudinal and transverse screening masses of the chiral partners, i.e. π^…
In this work, we investigate not only the pole masses but also the screening masses of neutral pions at finite temperature and magnetic field by utilizing the random phase approximation (RPA) approach in the framework of the two-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. And two equivalent formalisms in the presence of a magnetic field, i.e. the Landau level representation (LLR) and the proper-time representation (PTR), are applied to obtain the corresponding analytical expressions of the polarization functions (except the expressions for the pole masses in the PTR). In order to evaluate the appl…
We give the first estimate of charmless scalar meson emitting weak hadronic decays of 0 $\Lembda_{b}^{0}$, $Ξ_{b}^{0}$ and $Ξ_{b}^{-}$ bottom baryons employing the pole model and consequently predict their branching ratios.
We incorporate the effective restoration of $U(1)_{\rm A}$ symmetry in the 2+1 flavor entanglement Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (EPNJL) model by introducing a temperature-dependent strength $K(T)$ to the Kobayashi-Maskawa-'t Hooft (KMT) determinant interaction. $T$ dependence of $K(T)$ is well determined from pion and $a_0$-meson screening masses obtained by lattice QCD (LQCD) simulations with improved p4 staggered fermions. The strength is strongly suppressed in the vicinity of the pseudocritical temperature of chiral transition. The EPNJL model with the $K(T)$ well reproduces m…
We present a strategy based on the step-scaling technique to study non-perturbatively thermal QCD up to very high temperatures. As a first concrete application, we compute the flavour non-singlet meson screening masses at 12 temperatures covering the range from $T \sim 1$ GeV up to $\sim 160$ GeV in the theory with three massless quarks. The calculation is carried out by Monte Carlo simulations on the lattice by considering large spatial extensions in order to have negligible finite volume effects. For each temperature we have simulated 3 or 4 values of the lattice spacing, so as to perform th…
We show how the Regge trajectory of a resonance can be obtained from its pole in a scattering process and analytic constraints in the complex angular momentum plane. The method is suited for resonances that dominate an elastic scattering amplitude. In particular, from the rho(770) resonance pole in pion-pion scattering, we obtain its linear Regge trajectory, characteristic of ordinary quark-antiquark states. In contrast, the f0(500) pole -the sigma meson- which dominates scalar isoscalar pion-pion scattering, yields a non-linear trajectory with a much smaller slope at the f0(500) mass. Convers…
We describe the behaviour at threshold of S-wave poles of the scattering matrix within a four-parameter model for non-exotic meson-meson scattering. This model accommodates all non-exotic mesons, hence also the light scalar mesons, as resonances and bound states characterised by complex singularities of the scattering amplitude as a function of the total invariant mass. The majority of the full S-matrix mesonic poles stem from an underlying confinement spectrum. However, the light scalar mesons K0*(830), a0(980), f0(400--1200), and f0(980) do not, but instead originate in 3P0-barrier semi-boun…
Analytical results for the spatial dependence of the correlation functions for all meson excitations in perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics, the lowest order, are calculated. The meson screening mass is obtained as a large distance limit of the correlation function. Our analysis leads to a better understanding of the excitations of Quark Gluon Plasma at sufficiently large temperatures and may be of relevance for future numerical calculations with fully interacting Quantum Chromodynamics.
We present lattice QCD results for mesonic screening masses in the temperature range 140 MeV $\lesssim T \lesssim$ 2500 MeV. Our calculations were carried out using (2+1)-flavors of the Highly Improved Staggered Quark (HISQ) action, with a physical value for the strange quark mass and two values of the light quark mass corresponding to pion masses of 160 MeV and 140 MeV. Continuum-extrapolated results were obtained using calculations with a variety of lattice spacings corresponding to temporal lattice extents $N_τ= 6 - 16$. We discuss the implications of these results for the effective restora…
We present results for screening masses of mesons built from light and strange quarks in the temperature range of approximately between 140 MeV to 800 MeV. The lattice computations were performed with 2+1 dynamical light and strange flavors of improved (p4) staggered fermions along a line of constant physics defined by a pion mass of about 220 MeV and a kaon mass of 500 MeV. The lattices had temporal extents Nt = 4, 6 and 8 and aspect ratios of Ns / Nt \geq 4. At least up to a temperature of 140 MeV the pseudo-scalar screening mass remains almost equal to the corresponding zero temperature pse…
In this paper we study the scattering amplitudes of $D^{0}D^{0}π^+$-$D^{*+}D^{0}$ coupled channels based on $K$-matrix within the Chew-Mandelstam formalism. The $D^{0}D^{0}π^{+}$ invariant mass spectrum of LHCb is fitted and the pole parameters of the $T_{cc}^+$ are extracted. The analysis of pole behavior suggests that the $T_{cc}^+$ may originate from a $D^{*+}D^{0}$ virtual state and is formed as a result of an interplay between an attractive interaction between $D^0$ and $D^{*+}$ and coupling to $D^{0}D^0π^+$ channel.
In a strongly-coupled quark-gluon plasma, collective excitations of gluons and quarks should dominate over the excitation of individual quasi-free gluon and quark modes. To explore this possibility, we computed screening masses for ground-state light-quark mesons and baryons at leading-order in a symmetry-preserving truncation scheme for the Dyson-Schwinger equations using a confining formulation of a contact-interaction at nonzero temperature. Meson screening masses are obtained from Bethe-Salpeter equations; and baryon analogues from a novel construction of the Faddeev equation, which employ…
The meson screening mass in the pseudoscalar channel is calculated from the momentum dependent meson spectral function, using HTL fermionic propagators. A careful subtraction procedure is required to get an UV finite result. It is shown that in the whole range of temperatures explored here the HTL screening mass stays above the non-interacting result, slowly approaching the value $m_{\trm{scr}}=2\sqrt{π^2T^2+m_\infty^2}$, where $m_\infty^2$ is the HTL asymptotic thermal quark mass. Our analysis leads to a better understanding of the excitations of QGP at sufficiently large temperatures and may…
We present results for single pseudoscalar meson pole contributions and pion box contributions to the hadronic light-by-light (LBL) correction of the muon's anomalous magnetic moment. We follow the recently developed dispersive approach to LBL, where these contributions are evaluated with intermediate mesons on-shell. However, the space-like electromagnetic and transition form factors are not determined from analytic continuation of time-like data, but directly calculated within the functional approach to QCD using Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations. This strategy allows for a system…
We point out that chiral condensates at nonzero temperature and magnetic fields are in strict connection to the space-time integral of corresponding two-point neutral meson correlation functions in the pseudoscalar channel via the Ward-Takahashi identity. Screening masses of neutral pseudoscalar mesons, which are defined as the exponential decay of the corresponding spatial correlation functions in the long distance, thus are intrinsically connected to (inverse) magnetic catalysis of chiral condensates. To study this we performed lattice simulations of $(2+1)$-flavor QCD on $32^3\times N_t$ la…
The two-pole structure refers to the fact that particular single states in the spectrum as listed in the PDG tables are often two states. The story began with the $Λ(1405)$, when in 2001, using unitarized chiral perturbation theory, it was observed that there are two poles in the complex plane, one close to the $\bar{K}p$ and the other close to the $πΣ$ threshold. This was later understood combining the SU(3) limit and group-theoretical arguments. Different unitarization approaches that all lead to the two-pole structure have been considered in the mean time, showing some spread in the pole po…
The scalar-isoscalar propagator of the effective linear $σ$ model of meson dynamics is investigated with the help of an expansion in the number of the Goldstone bosons. A generic scenario is suggested for the temperature and density driven evolution of its pole in the second Riemann sheet. An extended temperature range, correlated with characteristic pole locations, is found where the phenomenon of threshold enhancement takes place in the corresponding spectral function.
We calculate the meson screening mass in a pion superfluid in the framework of Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The minimum of the attractive quark potential is always located at the phase boundary of pion superfluid. Different from the temperature and baryon density effect, the potential at finite isospin density can not be efficiently suppressed and the matter is always in a strongly coupled phase due to the Goldstone mode in the pion superfluid.
We investigate screening effects of the medium on the potential interaction between two static 'charges' for different models of dense plasmas in the one-boson exchange approximation. The potential can exhibit an oscillatory behavior, which is related to the analytic structure of the corresponding boson propagators in the complex $q$-plane. We have first revisited the one-pion exchange in a nuclear medium. In addition to Friedel oscillations, which are associated to branch cuts in the $q$-plane, there appears another oscillatory component, which arises from a pole on the pion propagator. This …
The rigorous quantum mechanical definition of a resonance requires determining the pole position in the second Riemann sheet of the analytically continued partial wave scattering amplitude in the complex Mandelstam s-variable plane. For meson resonances we investigate the alternative Breit-Wigner (BW) definition within the large Nc expansion. By assuming that the pole position is ${\cal O} (N_C^{0})$ and exploiting unitarity, we show that the BW determination of the resonance mass differs from the pole position by ${\cal O} (N_C^{-2})$ terms, which can be extracted from pi-pi scattering data. …
We consider the pion pole contribution and transversity effects determined by the $H_T$ and $\bar E_T$ Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) which are essential in hard pseudoscalar and vector meson leptoproduction. We investigate spin effects in the $ω$ and $ρ^0$ reactions. It is shown that the pion pole contribution is very important in the $ω$ production. Such effects in the $ρ^0$ channel are much smaller. Our results on spin asymmetries and spin density matrix elements in these reactions were found to be in good agreement with HERMES data.
We use the method of double pole QCD sum rule which is basically a fit with two exponentials of the correlation function, where we can extract the masses and decay constants of mesons as a function of the Borel mass. We apply this method to study the mesons: $ρ(1S,2S)$, $ψ(1S,2S)$, $Υ(1S,2S)$ and $ψ_t(1S,2S)$. We also present predictions for the toponiuns masses $ψ_t(1S,2S)$ of m(1S)=357 GeV and m(2S)=374 GeV.
We calculate the spin density matrix of the vector meson produced in e+e- annihilation at Z^0 pole. We show that the data imply a significant polarization for the antiquark which is created in the fragmentation process of the polarized initial quark and combines with the fragmenting quark to form the vector meson. The direction of polarization is opposite to that of the fragmenting quark and the magnitude is of the order of 0.5. A qualitative explanation of this result based on the LUND string fragmentation model is given.

The thermal properties of light mesons, including the temperature dependence of their masses (both screening and pole masses) and thermal widths, are studied in a two-flavor ($N_f=2$) soft-wall AdS/QCD model. By solving the spatial correlation functions, we extract the screening masses ($m_{\rm{scr}}$) from their poles. The screening masses of pseudo-scalar ($π$) and axial-vector ($a_1$) mesons increase almost monotonously with the increase of temperature. The screening masses of scalar ($σ$) and vector ($ρ$) mesons decrease at low temperature and increase at high temperature. The pole masses …
In this work we calculate the pole-mass of the $ρ^0$ meson with different spin projections $s_z=0,\pm 1$ in the context of the magnetized two-flavor Nambu--Jona--Lasinio model. Making use of the mean field approximation to obtain the effective quark mass as a function of the magnetic field, we apply the random phase approximation (RPA) to the vector channel in order to calculate the polarization function for each spin component. We adopt the magnetic field independent regularization (MFIR) in our evaluations as a method of separating divergences and the Pauli-Villars regularization for the vac…
Recent $HERA$ data on the photoproduction of vector mesons are analysed within a "soft", dipole pomeron model. We argued that the data on $σ^{γ\rightarrow J/ψ}_{el}$ is consistent with a soft pomeron, the apparent rapid increase resulting from the non-asymptotic effects due to the delayed asymptotics of $σ_{el}$ with respect to $σ_{tot}$.
A model based on a dipole Pomeron framework for vector meson exclusive photoproduction by real and virtual photons shows very good agreement with the experimental data. The model does not violate unitarity constrains and describes in a universal manner all the available data for $ρ$, $ω$, $ϕ$, $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ vector meson photoproduction in the region of energies $1.7\le W \le 250 GeV$ and photon virtualities $0 \le Q^2 \le 35 GeV^2$.

We investigate the effect of meson loops on the spectrum of quark states. We demonstrate that in general quark states do not tend to get very broad if their coupling to the continuum increases, but instead they decouple from the latter in the large coupling limit. We ascribe this effect to the essentially nonperturbative unitarization procedure involved. In the meantime, some quark resonances behave very differently and demonstrate collectivity in the sense that their pole trajectories span a wide, as compared to the level spacing, region therefore acquiring contributions from multiple bare po…
The $t$-channel contribution to the difference of electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon, $(α-β)^t$, can be quantitatively understood in terms of a $σ$-meson pole in the complex $t$-plane of the invariant scattering amplitude $A_1(s,t)$ with properties of the $σ$ meson as given by the quark-level Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model (NJL). Equivalently, this quantity may be understood in terms of a cut in the complex $t$-plane where the properties of the $σ$ meson are taken from the $ππ-> σ-> ππ$, $γγ-> σ-> ππ$ and $N\bar{N} -> σ-> ππ$ reactions. This equivalence may be understood as a sum rule …
The $π_0$ neutral meson pole mass is calculated in a strongly magnetized medium using the SU(2) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model within the random phase approximation (RPA) at zero temperature and zero baryonic density. We employ a magnetic field dependent coupling, $G(eB)$, fitted to reproduce lattice QCD results for the quark condensates. Divergent quantities are handled with a magnetic field independent regularization scheme in order to avoid unphysical oscillations. A comparison between the running and the fixed couplings reveals that the former produces results much closer to the predictions from…
We present a numerical solution of the four-quark Bethe-Salpeter equation for ground-state scalar tetraquarks with J^PC = 0^++. We find that the four-body equation dynamically generates pseudoscalar-meson poles in the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude. The resulting tetraquarks are genuine four-quark states that are dominated by pseudoscalar meson-meson correlations. Diquark-antidiquark contributions are subleading because of their larger mass scale. In the light quark sector, the sensitivity of the tetraquark wave function to the pion poles leads to an isoscalar tetraquark mass M_sigma ~ 350 MeV which…
We present a sum-rule extraction of the decay constants of heavy-light mesons from the two-point correlator of pseudoscalar currents. To this end, we compare the perturbative expansions for the correlator and the decay constant performed in terms of either the pole mass or the running MS-bar mass of the heavy quark. The perturbative expansion expressed in terms of the pole mass exhibits no sign of convergence whereas reorganizing this very expansion in terms of the MS-bar mass yields a rather clear hierarchy of the perturbative contributions. Accordingly, the decay constants extracted from the…
We investigate exclusive electroproduction of vector and pseudoscalar mesons at large photon virtuality $Q^2$. These reactions were analyzed within the handbag approach where amplitudes factorize into hard subprocesses and generalized parton distributions (GPDs). The essential role of transversity effects were found in pseudoscalar and light vector meson leptoproduction. These contributions are important at low $Q^2$ and determined by twist-3 effects accompanied by transversity GPDs. The transversity contributions lead to large transverse cross sections for most reactions of pseudoscalar meson…
Two-body nonleptonic decays of charmed mesons are studied on the basis of a simple pole-dominance model involving the vector, pseudoscalar and axial-vector meson poles.
Nucleon pole contribution in the $pp\to ppK^+K^-$ reaction below the threshold of the production of the $ϕ$ meson is studied within the effective Lagrangian approach. It is assumed that the $K^- p$ final state originates from the decay of the hyperons $Λ(1115)$ and $Λ(1405)$. In addition to the $pp$ final state interaction (FSI) parametrized using the Jost function, we have also considered the $K^+K^-$ FSI with the techniques of the chiral unitary approach, where the scalar mesons $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ were dynamically generated. Hence, the contributions from scalar mesons $f_0(980)$ and $…
We present a sum-rule extraction of the decay constants of the charmed mesons D and D_s from the two-point correlator of pseudoscalar currents. First, we compare the perturbative expansion for the correlator and the decay constant performed in terms of the pole and the running MSbar masses of the charm quark. The perturbative expansion in terms of the pole mass shows no signs of convergence whereas reorganizing this very expansion in terms of the MSbar mass leads to a distinct hierarchy of the perturbative expansion. Furthermore, the decay constants extracted from the pole-mass correlator turn…
The dispersion relation of $ρ$ meson in both timelike and spacelike regimes in hot and dense nuclear medium is analyzed and compared with $σ$ meson based on the quantum hadrodynamics model. The pole and screening masses of $ρ$ and $σ$ are discussed. The behavior of screening mass of $ρ$ is different from that of $σ$ due to different Dirac- and Fermi-sea contributions at finite temperature and density.
Through the scattering of light-pseudoscalar mesons ($π,K,η,η'$) off charmed mesons ($D, D_s$), we study the $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ state and other relevant charm scalar mesons in a unitarized chiral effective field theory approach. We investigate the charm scalar meson poles with different strangeness ($S$) and isospin ($I$) quantum numbers as well as their corresponding residues, which provide the coupling strengths of the charm scalar mesons. Both the light-quark mass and $N_C$ dependences of the pole positions of the $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ and the poles with $(S,I)=(0,1/2)$ are analyzed in detail …
