A topological space $X$ is said to be an Ascoli space if any compact subset $K$ of $C_k(X)$ is evenly continuous. This definition is motivated by the classical Ascoli theorem. We study the $k_R$-property and the Ascoli property of $C_p(κ)$ and $C_k(κ)$ over ordinals $κ$. We prove that $C_p(κ)$ is always an Ascoli space, while $C_p(κ)$ is a $k_R$-space iff the cofinality of $κ$ is countable. In particular, this provides the first $C_p$-example of an Ascoli space which is not a $k_R$-space, namely $C_p(ω_1)$. We show that $C_k(κ)$ is Ascoli iff $cf(κ)$ is countable iff $C_k(κ)$ is metrizable.
We are concerned with the question of when a homeomorphism between $C_p(X\times τ)$ and $C_p(Y\times τ)$ implies the existence of a homeomorphism between $C_p(X\times τ')$ and $C_p(Y\times τ')$, where $τ$ and $τ'$ are spaces of ordinals with some additional desired properties.
We show that the topology of pointwise convergence on scattered spaces is compatible with the group structure of their homeomorphism group. We then establish a few topological properties of the homeomorphism group of the first uncountable ordinal, such as amenability and Roelcke-precompactness.
We study the topological structure and the topological dynamics of groups of homeomorphisms of scattered spaces. For a large class of them (including the homeomorphism group of any ordinal space or of any locally compact scattered space), we establish Roelcke-precompactness and amenability, classify all closed normal subgroups and compute the universal minimal flow. As a by-product, we classify up to isomorphism the homeomorphism groups of compact ordinal spaces.
The group of compactly supported homeomorphisms on a Tychonoff space can be topologized in a number of ways, including as a colimit of homeomorphism groups with a given compact support, or as a subgroup of the homeomorphism group of its Stone-Čech compactification. A space is said to have the Compactly Supported Homeomorphism Property (CSHP) if these two topologies coincide. The authors provide necessary and sufficient conditions for finite products of ordinals equipped with the order topology to have CSHP. In addition, necessary conditions are presented for finite products and coproducts of s…
A fundamental result proved by Bourgain, Fremlin and Talagrand states that the space $B_1(M)$ of Baire one functions over a Polish space $M$ is an angelic space. Stegall extended this result by showing that the class $B_1(M,E)$ of Baire one functions valued in a normed space $E$ is angelic. These results motivate our study of various topological properties in the classes $B_α(X,G)$ of Baire-$α$ functions, where $α$ is a nonzero countable ordinal, $G$ is a metrizable non-precompact abelian group and $X$ is a $G$-Tychonoff first countable space. In particular, we show that (1) $B_α(X,G)$ is a $κ…
In this paper, we introduce a new method for compactification of a topological space by order topology and through ordinal numbers. The idea behind our approach originates from the definition of a limit point, and then we try to find an intuition for this concept. Finally, we utilise the Homotopy concept for separation Axiom
The aim of this article is to define a notion of cardinal utility function called measurable utility and to define it on a connected and separable subset of a weakly ordered topological space. The definition is equivalent to the ones given by Frisch in 1926 and by Shapley in 1975 and postulates axioms on a set of alternatives that allow both to ordinally rank alternatives and to compare their utility differences. After a brief review of the philosophy of utilitarianism and the history of utility theory, the paper introduces the mathematical framework to represent intensity comparisons of utili…
We construct locally Lindelöf scattered P-spaces (LLSP spaces, in short) with prescribed widths and heights under different set-theoretic assumptions. We prove that there is an LLSP space of width $ω_1$ and height $ω_2$ and that it is relatively consistent with ZFC that there is an LLSP space of width $ω_1$ and height $ω_3$. Also, we prove a stepping up theorem that, for every cardinal $λ\geq ω_2$, permits us to construct from an LLSP space of width $ω_1$ and height $λ$ satisfying certain additional properties an LLSP space of width $ω_1$ and height $α$ for every ordinal $α< λ^+$. Then, we obt…
We systematically study some basic properties of the theory of pre-topological spaces, such as, pre-base, subspace, axioms of separation, connectedness, etc. Pre-topology is also known as knowledge space in the theory of knowledge structures. We discuss the language of axioms of separation of pre-topology in the theory of knowledge spaces, the relation of Alexandroff spaces and quasi ordinal spaces, and the applications of the density of pre-topological spaces in primary items for knowledge spaces. In particular, we give a characterization of a skill multimap such that the delineate knowledge …
