Based on our previous study [IS2] we develop fully the stationary scattering theory for the Schrodinger operator on a manifold possessing an escape function. A particular class of examples are manifolds with Euclidean and/or hyperbolic ends, possibly with unbounded and non-smooth obstacles. We develop the theory largely along the classical lines [Sa, Co] and derive in particular WKB- asymptotics of appropriate generalized eigenfunctions. As an application we solve a conjecture of [HPW] on cross-ends transmissions in its natural and strong form within the framework of our theory.
We study spectral theory for the Schrodinger operator on manifolds possessing an escape function. A particular class of examples are manifolds with Euclidean and/or hyperbolic ends.
We study the stationary scattering theory for a perturbed 1-body Stark operator. We prove existence and completeness of the stationary wave operators, construct the associated generalized Fourier transforms, and characterize asymptotics of the generalized eigenfunctions of minimal growths in terms of the stationary scattering matrix.
In the present paper we discuss stationary scattering theory for repulsive Hamiltonians. We show the existence and completeness of stationary wave operators and unitarity of the scattering matrix. Moreover we completely characterize asymptotic behaviors of generalized eigenfunctions with minimal growth in terms of the scattering matrix. In our argument the radiation condition bounds for limiting resolvents play major roles. In fact, it is used to construct the stationary wave operators.
A theoretical framework is developed for scattering of scalar radiation from stationary, three-dimensional media with correlation functions of scattering potentials obeying $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry. It is illustrated that unlike in scattering from deterministic $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric media, its stationary generalization involves two mechanisms leading to symmetry breaking in the statistics of scattered radiation, one stemming from the complex-valued medium realizations and the other - from the complex-valued degree of medium's correlation.
We present a general account on the stationary scattering theory for unitary operators in a two-Hilbert spaces setting. For unitary operators $U_0,U$ in Hilbert spaces ${\cal H}_0,{\cal H}$ and for an identification operator $J:{\cal H}_0\to{\cal H}$, we give the definitions and collect properties of the stationary wave operators, the strong wave operators, the scattering operator and the scattering matrix for the triple $(U,U_0,J)$. In particular, we exhibit conditions under which the stationary wave operators and the strong wave operators exist and coincide, and we derive representation form…
We study and develop the stationary scattering theory for a class of one-body Stark Hamiltonians with short-range potentials, including the Coulomb potential, continuing our study in [AIIS1,AIIS2]. The classical scattering orbits are parabolas parametrized by asymptotic orthogonal momenta, and the kernel of the (quantum) scattering matrix at a fixed energy is defined in these momenta. We show that the scattering matrix is a classical type pseudodifferential operator and compute the leading order singularities at the diagonal of its kernel. Our approach can be viewed as an adaption of the metho…
We obtain explicit expressions for the annealed complexities associated respectively with the total number of (i) stationary points and (ii) local minima of the energy landscape for an elastic manifold with internal dimension $d<4$ embedded in a random medium of dimension $N \gg 1$ and confined by a parabolic potential with the curvature parameter $μ$. These complexities are found to both vanish at the critical value $μ_c$ identified as the Larkin mass. For $μ<μ_c$ the system is in complex phase corresponding to the replica symmetry breaking in its $T=0$ thermodynamics. The complexities vanish…
We prove that for the radial Dirac equation with Coulomb-type potential the generalized dynamical scattering operator coincides with the corresponding generalized stationary scattering operator. This fact is a quantum mechanical analogue of ergodic results in the classical mechanics.
In this article we study Stäckel representations of stationary KdV systems. Using Lax formalism we prove that these systems have two different representations as separable Stäckel systems of Benenti type, related with different foliations of the stationary manifold. We do it by constructing an explicit transformation between the jet coordinates of stationary KdV systems and separation variables of the corresponding Benenti systems for arbitrary number of degrees of freedom. Moreover, on the stationary manifold, we present the explicit form of Miura map between both representations of stationar…
Using the relativistic Fermat's principle, we establish a bridge between stationary-complete manifolds which satisfy the observer-manifold condition and pre-Randers metrics, namely, Randers metrics without any restriction on the one-form. As a consequence, we give a description of the causal ladder of such spacetimes in terms of the elements associated with the pre-Randers metric: its geodesics and the associated distance. We obtain, as applications of this interplay, the description of conformal maps of Killing submersions, and existence and multiplicity results for geodesics of pre-Randers m…
Stability estimates in stationary inverse transport
Within the class of Derezi{ń}ski-Enss pair-potentials which includes Coulomb potentials and for which asymptotic completeness is known \cite{De}, we show that all entries of the $N$-body quantum scattering matrix have a well-defined meaning at any given non-threshold energy. As a function of the energy parameter the scattering matrix is weakly continuous. This result generalizes a similar one obtained previously by Yafaev for systems of particles interacting by short-range potentials \cite{Ya1}. As for Yafaev's paper we do not make any assumption on the decay of channel eigenstates. The main p…
The problems we address in this paper are the spectral theory and the inverse problems associated with Laplacians on non-compact Riemannian manifolds and more general manifolds admitting conic singularities. In particular, we study the inverse scattering problem where one observes the asymptotic behavior of the solutions of the Helmholtz equation on the manifold. These observations are analogous to Heisenberg's scattering matrix in quantum mechanics. We then show that the knowledge of the scattering matrix determines the topology and the metric of the manifold. In the paper we develop a unifie…
Ideas and results of the generalized wave operator theory for dynamical and stationary cases are developed further and exact expressions for generalized scattering operators are obtained for wide classes of differential equations. New results on the structure of the generalized scattering operators are derived. Interesting interrelations between dynamical and stationary cases are found for radial Schrödinger and Dirac equations, and for Dirac-type equations as well. For some important examples we explain why the well-known divergences in the higher order approximations of the scattering matric…
We investigate the dynamics close to a homogeneous stationary state of Vlasov equation in one dimension, in presence of a small dissipation modeled by a Fokker-Planck operator. When the stationary state is stable, we show the stochastic stability of Landau poles. When the stationary state is unstable, depending on the relative size of the dissipation and the unstable eigenvalue, we find three distinct nonlinear regimes: for a very small dissipation, the system behaves as a pure Vlasov equation; for a strong enough dissipation, the dynamics presents similarities with a standard dissipative bifu…
It is well-known that a Lagrangian induces a compatible presymplectic form on the equation manifold (stationary surface, understood as a submanifold of the respective jet-space). Given an equation manifold and a compatible presymplectic form therein, we define the first-order Lagrangian system which is formulated in terms of the intrinsic geometry of the equation manifold. It has a structure of a presymplectic AKSZ sigma model for which the equation manifold, equipped with the presymplectic form and the horizontal differential, serves as the target space. For a wide class of systems (but not a…
Stationary scattering problem (when the distance $r$ tends to infinity) and dynamical scattering problem (when the time $t$ tends to infinity) are considered for the 3D Schrödinger equation. A simple interconnection between the scattering amplitude (stationary case) and scattering operator (dynamical case) is given in the paper. This result is a quantum mechanical analog of the ergodic formulas in the classical mechanics.
In this paper, we study an inverse scattering problem at fixed energy on three-dimensional asymptotically hyperbolic St{ä}ckel manifolds having the topology of toric cylinders and satisfying the Robertson condition. On these manifolds the Helmholtz equation can be separated into a system of a radial ODE and two angular ODEs. We can thus decompose the full scattering operator onto generalized harmonics and the resulting partial scattering matrices consist in a countable set of $2 \times 2$ matrices whose coefficients are the so-called transmission and reflection coefficients. It is shown that t…
In this paper, we consider two types of the scattering problems (relativistic case), namely, the stationary scattering problem, where the distance $r$ tends to infinity, and the dynamical scattering problem, where the time $t$ tends to infinity. Using our results on Lippmann-Schwinger equation in the relativistic case, we found the connection between the stationary scattering problem (the scattering amplitude) and the dynamical scattering problem (the scattering operator). This result is the quantum mechanical analog of the ergodic formulas in the classical mechanics.
We consider the quantum multisoliton scattering problem. For BPS theories one truncates the full field theory to the moduli space, a finite dimensional manifold of energy minimising field configurations, and studies the quantum mechanical problem on this. Non-BPS theories -- the generic case -- have no such obvious truncation. We define a quantum soliton scattering manifold as a configuration space which satisfies asymptotic completeness and respects the underlying classical dynamics of slow moving solitons. Having done this, we present a new method to construct such manifolds. In the BPS case…
Scattering theory for p-forms on manifolds with cylindrical ends has a direct interpretation in terms of cohomology. Using the Hodge isomorphism, the scattering matrix at low energy may be regarded as operator on the cohomology of the boundary. Its value at zero describes the image of the absolute cohomology in the cohomology of the boundary. We show that the so-called scattering length, the Eisenbud-Wigner time delay at zero energy, has a cohomological interpretation as well. Namely, it relates the norm of a cohomology class on the boundary to the norm of its image under the connecting homomor…
