We show that there is a pair of smooth complex quartic K3 surfaces $S_1$ and $S_2$ in ${\mathbf P}^3$ such that $S_1$ and $S_2$ are isomorphic as abstract varieties but not Cremona isomorphic. We also show, in a geometrically explicit way, that there is a pair of smooth complex quartic K3 surfaces $S_1$ and $S_2$ in ${\mathbf P}^3$ such that $S_1$ and $S_2$ are Cremona isomorphic, but not projectively isomorphic. This work is much motivated by several e-mails from Professors Tuyen Truong and János Kollár.
Two birational projective varieties in $P^n$ are Cremona Equivalent if there is a birational modification of $P^n$ mapping one onto the other. The minimal Cremona degree of $X\subset P^n$ is the minimal integer among all degrees of varieties that are Cremona Equivalent to $X$. The Cremona Equivalence and the minimal Cremona degree is well understood for subvarieties of codimension at least $2$ while both are in general very subtle questions for divisors. In this note I compute the minimal Cremona degree of quartic surfaces in $P^3$. This allows me to show that any quartic surface of elliptic r…
Two birational subvarieties of P^n are called Cremona equivalent if there is a Cremona modification of P^n mapping one to the other. If the codimension of the varieties is at least 2 then they are always Cremona Equivalent. For divisors the question is much more subtle and a general answer is unknown. In this paper I study the case of rational quartic surfaces and prove that they are all Cremona equivalent to a plane.
In this note we observe that the Cremona transformation in Oguiso's example of Cremona isomorphic but not projectively equivalent quartic K3 surfaces in three-dimensional projective space is the classical cubo-cubic transformation.
In this article, we study birational transformations belonging to Galois points for certain plane quartic curve. In fact, we see that they can be extended to Cremona transformations. In particular, we determine the conjugacy class of them. We have that they are all conjugate to linear transformations.
We exhibit a Cremona transformation of ${\bf P}^4$ such that the base loci of the map and its inverse are birational to K3 surfaces. The two K3 surfaces are derived equivalent but not isomorphic to each other. As an application, we show that the difference of the two K3 surfaces annihilates the class of the affine line in the Grothendieck ring of varieties.
Linearisation of finite abelian subgroups of the Cremona group of the plane
本文给出了[J. Blanc,Finite Abel subgroups of the Cremona group of the plane,C.R. Acad. Sci.
We study birational transformations belonging to Galois points. Let $P$ be a Galois point for a plane curve $C$ and $G_P$ be a Galois group at $P$. Then an element of $G_P$ induces a birational transformation of $C$. In general, it is difficult to determine when this birational transformations can be extended to a Cremona (or projective) transformation. In this article, we shall prove that if the Galois group is isomorphic to the cyclic group of order three, then any element of the Galois group has an expression as a de Jonquières transformation. In particular, they can be extended to Cremona …
Special types of quartic surfaces were much studied objects during the 1860s. Quartics were thus very much in the air when Sophus Lie and Felix Klein first met in Berlin in 1869. As this study shows, such surfaces played a major role in their subsequent work, much of which centered on linear and quadratic line complexes. This mutual interest led them to a number of new results on the quartic surfaces of Steiner, Plücker, and Kummer, as well as various types of ruled quartics studied earlier by Cremona. This paper, which draws on unpublished archival sources as well as published work from the p…
In 1884 the German mathematician Karl Rohn published a substantial paper on \cite{ROH} on the properties of quartic surfaces with triple points, proving (among many other things) that the maximum number of lines contained in a quartic monoid surface is $31$. In this paper we study in details this class of surfaces. We prove that there exists an open subset $A \subseteq \mathbb{P}^1_K$ ($K$ is a characteristic zero field) that parametrizes (up to a projectivity) all the quartic monoid surfaces with $31$ lines; then we study the action of $\mathrm{PGL}(4,K)$ on these surfaces, we show that the s…
The Gram spectrahedron of a real form $f\in\mathbb{R}[\underline{x}]_{2d}$ parametrizes all sum of squares representations of $f$. It is a compact, convex, semi-algebraic set, and we study its facial structure in the case of ternary quartics, i.e. $f\in\mathbb{R}[x,y,z]_4$. We show that the Gram spectrahedron of every smooth ternary quartic has faces of dimension 2, and generically none of dimension 1. We complete the proof that the so called Steiner graph of every smooth quartic is isomorphic to $K_4\coprod K_4$. Moreover, we show that the Gram spectrahedron of a generic psd ternary quartic c…
In this paper we prove that if two normal affine surfaces $S$ and $S'$ have isomorphic automorphism groups, then every connected algebraic group acting regularly and faithfully on $S$ acts also regularly and faithfully on $S'$. Moreover, if $S$ is non-toric, we show that the dynamical type of a 1-torus action is preserved in presence of an additive group action. We also show that complex affine toric surfaces are determined by the abstract group structure of their regular automorphism groups in the category of complex normal affine surfaces using properties of the Cremona group. As a generaliz…
