We investigate the application of our recent holographic entanglement negativity conjecture for higher dimensional conformal field theories to specific examples which serve as crucial consistency checks. In this context we compute the holographic entanglement negativity for bipartite pure and finite temperature mixed state configurations in $d$-dimensional conformal field theories dual to bulk pure $AdS_{d+1}$ geometry and $AdS_{d+1}$-Schwarzschild black holes respectively. It is observed that the holographic entanglement negativity characterizes the distillable entanglement for the finite temperature mixed states through the elimination of the thermal contributions. Significantly our examples correctly reproduce universal features of the entanglement negativity for corresponding two dimensional conformal field theories, in higher dimensions.
We establish a construction for the entanglement wedge in asymptotically flat bulk geometries for subsystems in dual $(1+1)$-dimensional Galilean conformal field theories in the context of flat space holography. In this connection we propose a definition for the bulk entanglement wedge cross section for bipartite states of such dual non relativistic conformal field theories. Utilizing our construction for the entanglement wedge cross section we compute the entanglement negativity for such bipartite states through the generalization of an earlier proposal, in the context of the usual $AdS/CFT$ …

The construction involves specific algebraic sums of the lengths of bulk extremal curves homologous to certain combinations of the intervals appropriate to such bipartite states. Our analysis exactly reproduces the corresponding replica technique results in the large central charge limit. We substantiate our constr…
Negativity is a measure of entanglement that can be used both in pure and mixed states. The negativity spectrum is the spectrum of eigenvalues of the partially transposed density matrix, and characterizes the degree and "phase" of entanglement. For pure states, it is simply determined by the entanglement spectrum. We use a diagrammatic method complemented by a modification of the Ford-Fulkerson algorithm to find the negativity spectrum in general random tensor networks with large bond dimensions. In holography, these describe the entanglement of fixed-area states. It was found that many fixed-…
We obtain the entanglement negativity for various bipartite zero and finite temperature pure and mixed state configurations in a class of $(1+1)$-dimensional Galilean conformal field theories. In this context we establish a construction for computing the entanglement negativity for such bipartite states involving a suitable replica technique. Our construction exactly reproduces certain universal features observed for entanglement negativity of corresponding states in relativistic $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal field theories.
We propose a covariant holographic conjecture for the entanglement negativity of mixed states in bipartite systems described by $d$-dimensional conformal field theories dual to bulk non static $AdS_{d+1}$ configurations. Application of our conjecture to $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal field theories dual to bulk rotating BTZ black holes exactly reproduces the corresponding entanglement negativity in the large central charge limit and characterizes the distillable entanglement. We further demonstrate that our conjecture applied to the case of bulk extremal rotating BTZ black holes also characteri…
We compute the entanglement negativity for various pure and mixed state configurations in a bath coupled to an evaporating two dimensional non-extremal Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) black hole obtained through the partial dimensional reduction of a three dimensional BTZ black hole. Our results exactly reproduce the analogues of the Page curve for the entanglement negativity which were recently determined through diagrammatic technique developed in the context of random matrix theory.
We study the application of our recent holographic entanglement negativity conjecture for mixed states of adjacent subsystems in conformal field theories with a conserved charge. In this context we obtain the holographic entanglement negativity for zero and finite temperature mixed state configurations in $d$-dimensional conformal field theories dual to bulk extremal and non extremal charged $AdS_{d+1}$ black holes. Our results conform to quantum information theory expectations and constitute significant consistency checks for our conjecture.
In this paper we study the application of holographic entanglement negativity proposal for bipartite states in the 2d Galilean conformal field theory ($GCFT_2$) dual to bulk asymptotically flat spacetimes in the context of generalized minimal massive gravity (GMMG) model. $GCFT_2$ is considered on the boundary side of the duality and the bulk gravity is described by GMMG that is asymptotically symmetric under the Galilean conformal transformations. In this paper, the replica technique, based on the two-point and the four-point twist correlators, is utilized and the entanglement entropy and the…
We establish our recently proposed holographic entanglement negativity conjecture for mixed states of adjacent subsystems in conformal field theories with concrete higher dimensional examples. In this context we compute the holographic entanglement negativity for mixed states of adjacent subsystems in $d$-dimensional conformal field theories dual to bulk $AdS_{d+1}$ vacuum and $AdS_{d+1}$-Schwarzschild black holes. These representative examples provide strong indication for the universality of our conjecture which affirms significant implications for diverse applications.
We establish the large central charge behaviour of the entanglement negativity for a mixed state configuration of a single interval enclosed between two intervals in a holographic $CFT_{1+1}$. To this end we utilize the monodromy technique to elucidate the large central charge limit of a four point twist correlator which characterizes the negativity of the mixed state configuration. Subsequently we analyze the large central charge limit of the six point twist correlator which reduces to the above four point correlator in a specific limit. The results provide a strong consistency check for our …

To this end we obtain the time evolution of the holographic entanglement negativity for such mixed states from a dual bulk eternal black hole geometry and elucidate the relevant geodesic structures. The holographic entanglement negativity for such mixed states, f…
We investigate mixed state entanglement measures of entanglement negativity and reflected entropy for bipartite states in two dimensional conformal field theories with an anomaly through appropriate replica techniques. Furthermore we propose holographic constructions for these measures from the corresponding bulk dual geometries involving topologically massive gravity in AdS$_3$ and find exact agreement with the field theory results. In this connection we extend an earlier holographic proposal for the entanglement negativity to the bulk action with a gravitational Chern-Simons term and compute…
We advance a holographic construction for the entanglement negativity of bipartite mixed state configurations of two disjoint intervals in $(1+1)$ dimensional conformal field theories ($CFT_{1+1}$) through the $AdS_3/CFT_2$ correspondence. Our construction constitutes the large central charge analysis of the entanglement negativity for mixed states under consideration and involves a specific algebraic sum of bulk space like geodesics anchored on appropriate intervals in the dual $CFT_{1+1}$. The construction is utilized to compute the holographic entanglement negativity for such mixed states i…
We propose a holographic entanglement negativity conjecture involving the bulk geometry, for mixed states of adjacent intervals in $(1+1)$-dimensional dual conformal field theories through the $AdS/CFT$ correspondence. The holographic entanglement negativity is obtained from a specific algebraic sum of the geodesics anchored on respective intervals on the boundary which reduces to the holographic mutual information between them. Utilizing our conjecture we obtain the entanglement negativity of adjacent intervals in zero and finite temperature ($1+1$)-dimensional holographic conformal field the…
We advance a holographic conjecture for the entanglement negativity of bipartite quantum states in $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal field theories in the $AdS_3/CFT_2$ framework. Our conjecture exactly reproduces the replica technique results in the large central charge limit, for both the pure state described by the $CFT_{1+1}$ vacuum dual to bulk the pure $AdS_3$ geometry and the finite temperature mixed state dual to a Euclidean BTZ black hole respectively. The holographic entanglement negativity characterizes the distillable entanglement and reduces to a specific sum of holographic mutual inf…
We propose a covariant holographic entanglement negativity constructionfor time-dependent mixed states of adjacent intervals in $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal field theories dual to non-static bulk $\mathrm{AdS_3}$ configurations. Our construction applied to $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal field theories with a conserved charge dual to non-extremal and extremal rotating BTZ black holes exactly reproduces the corresponding replica technique results, in the large central charge limit. We also utilize our conjecture to obtain the time-dependent holographic entanglement negativity for the mixed state…
It has been realised that corners in entangling surfaces can induce new universal contributions to the entanglement entropy and Rényi entropy. In this paper we study universal corner contributions to entanglement negativity in three- and four-dimensional CFTs using both field theory and holographic techniques. We focus on the quantity $χ$ defined by the ratio of the universal part of the entanglement negativity over that of the entanglement entropy, which may characterise the amount of distillable entanglement. We find that for most of the examples $χ$ takes bigger values for singular entangli…
We advance a construction for the covariant holographic entanglement negativity for time dependent mixed states of disjoint intervals in $(1+1)$ dimensional conformal field theories ($CFT_{1+1}$) dual to bulk non static $AdS_3$ geometries. Application of our proposal to such mixed states in a $CFT_{1+1}$ dual to bulk non extremal and extremal rotating BTZ black holes exactly reproduces the replica technique results in the large central charge limit. We advance two alternative proposals for the island contributions to the entanglement negativity of various pure and mixed state configurations in quantum field theories coupled to semiclassical gravity. The first construction involves the extremization of an algebraic sum of the generalized Renyi entropies of order half. The second proposal involves the extremization of the sum of the effective entanglement negativity of quantum matter fields and the backreacted area of a cosmic brane spanning the entanglement wedge cross section which also extremizes the generalized Renyi reflected entropy o…
We investigate the extension of a holographic construction for the entanglement negativity of two disjoint subsystems in proximity to $CFT_d$s with a conserved charge dual to bulk $AdS_{d+1}$ geometries. The construction involves a specific algebraic sum of the areas of bulk co-dimension two static minimal surfaces homologous to certain appropriate combinations of the subsystems in question. In this connection we compute the holographic entanglement negativity for two disjoint subsystems in proximity, with long rectangular strip geometries in $CFT_d$s dual to bulk non extremal and extremal RN-…
In this essay, we consider highly entangled states in theories with a gravity dual, where the entangled degrees of freedom are causally disconnected from each other. Using the basic rules of holography, we argue that there is a non-traversable wormhole in the gravity dual whose geometry encodes the pattern of the entanglement.
We advance a construction for the balanced partial entanglement entropy (BPE) for bipartite mixed states in a class of $(1+1)$-dimensional Galilean conformal field theories dual to Einstein gravity and topologically massive gravity in asymptotically flat spacetimes. We compare our results with the entanglement wedge cross section (EWCS) in the dual geometries and find exact agreement. Furthermore, utilizing a geometric picture, we demonstrate the holographic duality between the EWCS and the BPE in the context of flat holography.
We investigate the time evolution of reflected entropy and entanglement negativity for mixed state configurations involving two adjacent and disjoint intervals in the radiation flux of moving mirrors by utilizing the $AdS/BCFT$ duality. These measures are computed for the required mixed state configurations by using the respective replica techniques in the large central charge limit of the $BCFT_{1+1}$. We demonstrate that the results obtained exactly agree with the corresponding holographic computations in the dual bulk $AdS_3$ geometry with an end of the world brane. In this context, the ana…

We calculate the entanglement entropy in spaces with horizons, such as Rindler or de Sitter space, using holography. We employ appropriate parametrizations of AdS space in order to obtain a Rindler or static de Sitter boundary metric. The holographic entanglement entropy for the regions enclosed by the horizons can be identified with the standard thermal entropy of these spaces. For this to hold, we define the effective Newton's constant appropriately and account for the way the AdS space is covered by the parametrizations.
Both reflected entropy and entanglement negativity provide valid measures of entanglement between subsystems of a mixed state. For general 2D eternal black holes coupled with CFT matters in large $c$ limit, we perform the replica-trick computation and find that both effective Renyi reflected entropy and effective entanglement negativity can be expressed in terms of the combination of modified backreacting cosmic branes in $\mathrm{AdS}_3$ bulk. We then develop a holographic scheme to calculate effective reflected entropy and entanglement negativity for general 2D eternal black holes coupled wi…
We use holographic techniques to calculate the first thermal correction to the entanglement entropy of a cap-like region of a CFT defined on a sphere, successfully reproducing the field theory result. Since this is an order-one correction to the entropy in the large-$N$ expansion, quantum corrections to the holographic entanglement entropy formula are essential. The bulk calculation is made tractable using the same technical machinery recently used to derive the linearized Einstein equations in the bulk from the first law of entanglement entropy in the CFT.
The odd entanglement entropy (OEE) for bipartite states in a class of $(1+1)$-dimensional Galilean conformal field theories ($GCFT_{1+1}$) is obtained through an appropriate replica technique. In this context our results are compared with the entanglement wedge cross section (EWCS) for $(2+1)$-dimensional asymptotically flat geometries dual to the $GCFT_{1+1}$ in the framework of flat holography. We find that our results are consistent with the duality of the difference between the odd entanglement entropy and the entanglement entropy of bipartite states, with the bulk EWCS for flat holographi…
Entanglement entropy plays a variety of roles in quantum field theory, including the connections between quantum states and gravitation through the holographic principle. This article provides a review of entanglement entropy from a mixed viewpoint of field theory and holography. A set of basic methods for the computation is developed and illustrated with simple examples such as free theories and conformal field theories. The structures of the ultraviolet divergences and the universal parts are determined and compared with the holographic descriptions of entanglement entropy. The utility of qu…
The holographic representation of the entanglement entropy of four dimensional conformal field theories is studied. By generalizing the replica trick the anomalous terms in the entanglement entropy are evaluated. The same terms in the holographic representation are calculated by a method which does not require the solution of the equations of motion or a cut off. The two calculations disagree for rather generic geometries. The reasons for the disagreement are analyzed.
BMS symmetry, which is the asymptotic symmetry at null infinity of flat spacetime, is an important input for flat holography. In this paper, we give a holographic calculation of entanglement entropy and Rényi entropy in three dimensional Einstein gravity and Topologically Massive Gravity. The geometric picture for the entanglement entropy is the length of a spacelike geodesic which is connected to the interval at null infinity by two null geodesics. The spacelike geodesic is the fixed points of replica symmetry, and the null geodesics are along the modular flow. Our strategy is to first reform…
We explore entanglement negativity, a measure of the distillable entanglement contained in a quantum state, in relativistic field theories in various dimensions. We first give a general overview of negativity and its properties and then explain a well known result relating (logarithmic) negativity of pure quantum states to the Renyi entropy (at index $1/2$), by exploiting the simple features of entanglement in thermal states. In particular, we show that the negativity of the thermofield double state is given by the free energy difference of the system at temperature $T$ and $2\,T$ respectively…
For a perturbation of the state of a Conformal Field Theory (CFT), the response of the entanglement entropy is governed by the so-called "first law" of entanglement entropy, in which the change in entanglement entropy is proportional to the change in energy. Whether such a first law holds for other types of perturbations, such as a change to the CFT Lagrangian, remains an open question. We use holography to study the evolution in time $t$ of entanglement entropy for a CFT driven by a $t$-linear source for a conserved $U(1)$ current or marginal scalar operator. We find that although the usual f…
We study the topological entanglement negativity between two spatial regions in (2+1)-dimensional Chern-Simons gauge theories by using the replica trick and the surgery method. For a bipartitioned or tripartitioned spatial manifold, we show how the topological entanglement negativity depends on the presence of quasiparticles and the choice of ground states. In particular, for two adjacent non-contractible regions on a tripartitioned torus, the entanglement negativity provides a simple way to distinguish Abelian and non-Abelian theories. Our method applies to a Chern-Simons gauge theory defined…
We explore properties of the universal terms in the entanglement entropy and logarithmic negativity in 4d CFTs, aiming to clarify the ways in which they behave like the analogous entanglement measures in quantum mechanics. We show that, unlike entanglement entropy in finite-dimensional systems, the sign of the universal part of entanglement entropy is indeterminate. In particular, if and only if the central charges obey $a>c$, the entanglement across certain classes of entangling surfaces can become arbitrarily negative, depending on the geometry and topology of the surface. The negative contr…
We study the time evolution of the logarithmic negativity after a global quantum quench. In a 1+1 dimensional conformal invariant field theory, we consider the negativity between two intervals which can be either adjacent or disjoint. We show that the negativity follows the quasi-particle interpretation for the spreading of entanglement. We check and generalise our findings with a systematic analysis of the negativity after a quantum quench in the harmonic chain, highlighting two peculiar lattice effects: the late birth and the sudden death of entanglement.
We explore quantum entanglement between two causally disconnected regions in the multiverse. We first consider a free massive scalar field, and compute the entanglement negativity between two causally separated open charts in de Sitter space. The qualitative feature of it turns out to be in agreement with that of the entanglement entropy. We then introduce two observers who determine the entanglement between two causally disconnected de Sitter spaces. When one of the observers remains constrained to a region of the open chart in a de Sitter space, we find that the scale dependence enters into …
Negativity is an entanglement monotone frequently used to quantify entanglement in bipartite states. Because negativity is a non-analytic function of a density matrix, existing methods used in the physics literature are insufficient to compute its derivatives. To this end we develop techniques in the calculus of complex, patterned matrices and use them to conduct a perturbative analysis of negativity in terms of arbitrary variations of the density operator. The result is an easy-to-implement expansion that can be carried out to all orders. On the way we provide convenient representations of th…
In this letter we study the negativity of one dimensional free fermions. We derive the general form of the $\mathbb{Z}_{N}$ symmetric term in moments of the partial transposed (reduced) density matrix, which is an algebraic function of the end points of the system. Such a path integral turns out to be a convenient tool for making estimations for the negativity.
The entanglement entropy of free fermions with a Fermi surface is known to obey a logarithmic scaling and violate the area law in all dimensions. Here, we would like to see how temperature affects the logarithmic scaling behavior. To this end, we compute the entanglement negativity of free fermions using the fermionic partial transpose developed in our earlier paper [Phys. Rev. B 95, 165101 (2017)]. In one dimension, we analytically derive the leading order term in the finite-temperature entanglement negativity and show how the entanglement negativity indicates a crossover from a quantum entan…
Quantum entanglement is fragile to thermal fluctuations, which raises the question whether finite temperature phase transitions support long-range entanglement similar to their zero temperature counterparts. Here we use quantum Monte Carlo simulations to study the third Renyi negativity, a generalization of entanglement negativity, as a proxy of mixed-state entanglement in the 2D transverse field Ising model across its finite temperature phase transition. We find that the area-law coefficient of the Renyi negativity is singular across the transition, while its subleading constant is zero withi…
We calculate logarithmic negativity, a quantum entanglement measure for mixed quantum states, in quantum error-correcting codes and find it to equal the minimal cross sectional area of the entanglement wedge in holographic codes with a quantum correction term equal to the logarithmic negativity between the bulk degrees of freedom on either side of the entanglement wedge cross section. This leads us to conjecture a holographic dual for logarithmic negativity that is related to the area of a cosmic brane with tension in the entanglement wedge plus a quantum correction term. This is closely relat…
We study the time evolution of the entanglement negativity after a local quantum quench in (1+1)-dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs), which we introduce by suddenly joining two initially decoupled CFTs at their endpoints. We calculate the negativity evolution for both adjacent intervals and disjoint intervals explicitly. For two adjacent intervals, the entanglement negativity grows logarithmically in time right after the quench. After developing a plateau-like feature, the entanglement negativity drops to the ground-state value. For the case of two spatially separated intervals, a ligh…
We investigate multipartite entanglement for quantum states of 3d space geometry, described via generalised random spin networks with fixed areas, in the context of background independent approaches to quantum gravity. We focus on entanglement negativity as a well defined witness of quantum correlations for mixed states, in our setting describing generic subregions of the boundary of a quantum 3d region of space. In particular, we consider a generic tripartition of the boundary of an open spin network state and we compute the typical Rényi negativity of two boundary subregions A and B immersed…
We use the entanglement negativity, a bipartite measure of entanglement in mixed quantum states, to study how multipartite entanglement constrains the real-space structure of the ground state wavefunctions of $(2+1)$-dimensional topological phases. We focus on the (Abelian) Laughlin and (non-Abelian) Moore-Read states at filling fraction $ν=1/m$. We show that a combination of entanglement negativities, calculated with respect to specific cylinder and torus geometries, determines a necessary condition for when a topological state can be disentangled, i.e., factorized into a tensor product of st…
In the context of ground states of quantum many-body systems, the locality of entanglement between connected regions of space is directly tied to the locality of the corresponding entanglement Hamiltonian: the latter is dominated by local, few-body terms. In this work, we introduce the negativity Hamiltonian as the (non hermitian) effective Hamiltonian operator describing the logarithm of the partial transpose of a many-body system. This allows us to address the connection between entanglement and operator locality beyond the paradigm of bipartite pure systems. As a first step in this directio…
We study entanglement entropy inequalities in boundary conformal field theory (BCFT) by holographic correspondence. By carefully classifying all the configurations for different phases, we prove the strong subadditiviy and the monogamy of mutual information for holographic entanglement entropy in BCFT at both zero and finite temperatures
We consider the problem of symmetry decomposition of the entanglement negativity in free fermionic systems. Rather than performing the standard partial transpose, we use the partial time-reversal transformation which naturally encodes the fermionic statistics. The negativity admits a resolution in terms of the charge imbalance between the two subsystems. We introduce a normalised version of the imbalance resolved negativity which has the advantage to be an entanglement proxy for each symmetry sector, but may diverge in the limit of pure states for some sectors. Our main focus is then the resol…
We study the scaling of the traces of the integer powers of the partially transposed reduced density matrix and of the entanglement negativity for two spin blocks as function of their length and separation in the critical Ising chain. For two adjacent blocks, we show that tensor network calculations agree with universal conformal field theory (CFT) predictions. In the case of two disjoint blocks the CFT predictions are recovered only after taking into account the finite size corrections induced by the finite length of the blocks.
We study the ground-state entanglement Hamiltonian of several disjoint intervals for the massless Dirac fermion on the half-line. Its structure consists of a local part and a bi-local term that couples each point to another one in each other interval. The bi-local operator can be either diagonal or mixed in the fermionic chiralities and it is sensitive to the boundary conditions. The knowledge of such entanglement Hamiltonian is the starting point to evaluate the negativity Hamiltonian, i.e. the logarithm of the partially transposed reduced density matrix, which is an operatorial characterisat…
