The excitation spectra in the deformed nucleus 232U have been studied by means of the (p,t) reaction, using the Q3D spectrograph facility at the Munich Tandem accelerator. The angular distributions of tritons were measured for 162 excitations seen in the triton spectra up to 3.25 MeV. 0+ assignments are made for 13 excited states by comparison of experimental angular distributions with the calculated ones using the CHUCK3 code. Assignments up to spin 6+ are made for other states. Sequences of states are selected which can be treated as rotational bands. Moments of inertia have been derived from these sequences, whose values may be considered as evidence of the two- or one-phonon nature of these 0+ excitations. Experimental data are compared with interacting boson model (IBM) and quasiparticle-phonon model (QPM) calculations.
Knockout reactions with heavy ion targets in inverse kinematics, as well as "quasi-free" (p,2p) and (p,pn) reactions are useful tools for nuclear spectroscopy. We report calculations on \textit{ab-initio} many-body wavefunctions based on the no-core shell model to study the nucleon removal reactions in light nuclei, including beryllium, carbon, and oxygen isotopic chains, and explore the importance of using an \textit{ab-initio} method. Our study helps clarifying how the extraction of spectroscopic factors from the experiments depend on the details of the many-body wavefunctions being probed. …
Using adiabatic distorted-wave approximation (ADWA) with nonlocal optical potentials (NLOP) for $(d,p)$ transfer reactions [G.W. Bailey, N.K. Timofeyuk, and J.A. Tostevin, Phys. Rev. Lett. 117, 162502 (2016)] reported strong sensitivity to the $n$-$p$ force model. This sensitivity disappears in rigorous three-body Faddeev-type results. Some shortcomings of ADWA with NLOP are pointed out.
Theoretical models of low-energy (d,p) single-neutron transfer reactions are a crucial link between experimentation, nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysical studies. Whereas reaction models that use local optical potentials are insensitive to short-range physics in the deuteron, we show that including the inherent nonlocality of the nucleon-target interactions and realistic deuteron wave functions generates significant sensitivity to high n-p relative momenta and to the underlying nucleon-nucleon interaction. We quantify this effect upon the deuteron channel distorting potentials within th…
We point out that after presenting our results on high $n$-$p$ momentum sensitivity of the $(d,p)$ cross sections in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 117 162502 (2016)] the last paragraph of our Letter refers to a need of going beyond the leading order of Weinberg state treatment. This task could be achieved by using any method that can provide exact solution of the three-body problem. Deltuva [arXiv:1806.00298] uses Faddeev equations to study the NN-model dependence of the $(d,p)$ cross sections. His results are consistent with a new study performed at Surrey which is undergoing a reviewing process at Physi…
States in the $N=28$ nucleus $^{46}$Ar have been studied by a two-neutron transfer reaction at REX-ISOLDE (CERN). A beam of radioactive $^{44}$ at an energy of 2.16~AMeV and a tritium loaded titanium target were used to populate $^{46}$ by the t($^{44}$,p) two-neutron transfer reaction. Protons emitted from the target were identified in the T-REX silicon detector array. The excitation energies of states in $^{46}$ have been reconstructed from the measured angles and energies of recoil protons. Angular distributions for three final states were measured and based on the shape of the differential…
Recent results on the study of light-quark baryons with the ANL-Osaka dynamical coupled-channels (DCC) approach are presented, which contain the N* and Delta* spectroscopy via the analysis of pi N and gamma N reactions and the Lambda* and Sigma* spectroscopy via the analysis of K- p reactions. A recent application of our DCC approach to neutrino-nucleon reactions in the resonance region is also presented.
Background: The nucleus $^{32}$Mg ($N=20$ and $Z=12$) plays a central role in the so-called "island of inversion" where in the ground states $sd$-shell neutrons are promoted to the $fp$-shell orbitals across the shell gap, resulting in the disappearance of the canonical neutron magic number $N=20$. Purpose: The primary goals of this work are to extend the level scheme of $^{32}$Mg, provide spin-parity assignments to excited states, and discuss the microscopic structure of each state through comparisons with theoretical calculations. Method: In-beam $γ$-ray spectroscopy of $^{32}$Mg was perform…
High energy CW electron beams at new accelerator facilities allow electromagnetic production and precision study of hypernuclear structure, and we report here on the first experiment demonstrating the usefulness of the (e,e'K+) reaction. This experiment is also the first to take advantage of the enhanced virtual photon flux available when electrons are scattered at approximately zero degrees. The observed resolution, ~900 keV, of the 12B(hypernuclear) spectrum is the best yet attained using magnetic spectrometers. The positions of the major excitations are in agreement with theoretical predict…
The missing-mass spectroscopy of $Λ$ hypernuclei via the $(e,e^{\prime}K^{+})$ reaction has been developed through experiments at JLab Halls A and C in the last two decades. For the latest experiment, E05-115 in Hall C, we developed a new spectrometer system consisting of the HKS and HES; resulting in the best energy resolution ($E_Λ \simeq0.5$-MeV FWHM) and $B_Λ$ accuracy ($B_Λ\leq0.2$ MeV) in $Λ$-hypernuclear reaction spectroscopy. This paper describes the characteristics of the $(e,e^{\prime}K^{+})$ reaction compared to other reactions and experimental methods. In addition, the experimental…
Excitation-energy spectra of $^{11}$C nuclei near the $η^\prime$-meson production threshold have been measured by missing-mass spectroscopy using the $^{12}$C($p$,$d$) reaction. A carbon target has been irradiated with a 2.5 GeV proton beam supplied by the synchrotron SIS-18 at GSI to produce $η^\prime$ meson bound states in $^{11}$C nuclei. Deuterons emitted at $0^\circ$ in the reaction have been momentum-analyzed by the fragment separator (FRS) used as a high-resolution spectrometer. No distinct structure due to the formation of $η^\prime$-mesic states is observed although a high statistical…
The one neutron knock-out reaction $^1$H($^{20}$C,$^{19}$C$γ$) was studied at RIKEN using the DALI2 array. A $γ$ ray transition was observed at 198(10) keV. Based on the comparison between the experimental production cross section and theoretical predictions, the transition was assigned to the decay of the 3/2$_1^+$ state to the ground state.
Nuclear reaction data play an important role in nuclear reactor, medical, and fundamental science and national security applications. The wealth of information is stored in internally adopted ENDF-6 and EXFOR formats. We present a complete calculation of resonance integrals, Westcott factors, thermal and Maxwellian-averaged cross sections for Z=1-100 using evaluated nuclear reaction data. The addition of newly-evaluated neutron reaction libraries, and improvements in data processing techniques allows us to calculate nuclear industry and astrophysics parameters, and provide additional insights …
The structure of $^{33}$Mg was investigated by means of two knockout reactions, one-neutron removal from $^{34}$Mg and one-proton removal from $^{34}$Al. Using comparative analysis of the population of observed excited states in the residual $^{33}$Mg, the nature of these states can be deciphered. In addition, the long-standing controversy about the parity of the $^{33}$Mg ground state is resolved using momentum distribution analysis, showing a clear signature for negative parity. Partial cross section measurements are compared with the results of eikonal reaction theory combined with large-sc…
The single-nucleon knockout reactions 9Be(14B, 13B + gamma)X and 197Au(14B, 13B + gamma)X, at an incident energy of 60 MeV per nucleon, have been used to probe the structure of 14B and of the core fragment 13B. A dominant 2s configuration is deduced for the neutron in the ground state of 14B. The longitudinal momentum distribution for this state is consistent with "neutron halo" structure. Spin assignments for 13B excited states at 3.48 and 3.68 MeV are proposed based on the observed spectroscopic factors for one-neutron removal.

We are going to perform an inclusive spectroscopy experiment of eta' mesic nuclei with the 12C(p,d) reaction to study in-medium properties of the eta' meson. In nuclear medium, the eta' meson mass may be reduced due to partial restoration of chiral symmetry. In case of sufficiently large mass reduction and small absorption width of eta' at normal nuclear density, peak structures of eta' mesic states in 11C will be observed near the eta' emission threshold even in an inclusive spectrum. The experiment will be carried out at GSI with proton beam supplied by SIS using FRS as a spectrometer. The d…
We report on the in-beam gamma spectroscopy of $^{102}$Sn and $^{100}$Cd produced via two-neutron removal from carbon and CH$_2$ targets at about 150 MeV/nucleon beam energy. New transitions assigned to the decay of a second 2$^+$ excited state at 2470(60) keV in $^{102}$Sn were observed. Two-neutron removal cross sections from $^{104}$Sn and $^{102}$Cd have been extracted. The enhanced cross section to the 2$^+_2$ in $^{102}$Sn populated via the $(p,p2n)$ reaction is traced back to an increase of shell-model structure overlaps, consistent with the hypothesis that the proton-induced two-deeply…
The neutron-deficient Ca isotopes continue to attract attention due to their importance for testing isospin symmetry and their relevance in capture reactions of interest for nova nucleosynthesis and the shape of light curves in Type I X-ray bursts. To date, spectroscopic information on 38,39 Ca is largely limited to data on lower-spin excited states. Here, we report in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy of complementary higher-spin, complex-structure states in 39 Ca populated in fast-beam-induced, momentum-dissipative processes leading to neutron pickup onto excited configurations of the projectile, 9 Be…
he bound-state level structures of the $^{16}_Λ$O and $^{15}_Λ$N hypernuclei were studied by $γ$-ray spectroscopy using a germanium detector array (Hyperball) via the $^{16}$O ($K^-, π^- γ$) reaction. A level scheme for $^{16}_Λ$O was determined from the observation of three $γ$-ray transitions from the doublet of states ($2^-$,$1^-$) at $\sim 6.7$ MeV to the ground-state doublet ($1^-$,$0^-$). The $^{15}_Λ$N hypernuclei were produced via proton emission from unbound states in $^{16}_Λ$O . Three $γ$ -rays were observed and the lifetime of the $1/2^+;1$ state in $^{15}_Λ$N was measured by the D…
We review the last two decades of using photon beams to measure the production of mesons, and in particular the information that can be obtained on the spectrum of light, non-strange baryons. This is a compendium of experimental results, which should be used as a complement to theoretical reviews of the subject. Lists of data sets are given, together with a comprehensive set of references. An indication of the impact of the data is presented with a summary of the results.
Neutron transfer reactions with fast secondary beams of $^{17}$Ne, $^{15}$O, and $^9$C have been studied with the HiRA and CAESAR arrays. Excited states of $^{18}$Ne, $^{16}$O, and $^{10}$C in the continuum have been identified using invariant-mass spectroscopy. The best experimental resolution of these states is achieved by selecting events where the decay fragments are emitted transverse to the beam direction. We have confirmed a number of spin assignments made in previous works for the negative-parity states of $^{18}$Ne. In addition we have found new higher-lying excited states in $^{16}$O…
An extended investigation of the low-spin structure of the $^{65}$Ni nucleus was performed at the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, via the neutron capture reaction $^{64}$Ni(n,$γ$)$^{65}$Ni, using the FIPPS HPGe array. The level scheme of $^{65}$Ni was significantly expanded, with 2 new levels and 87 newly found transitions. Angular correlation analyses were also performed, allowing us to assign spins and parities for a number of states, and to determine multipolarity mixing ratios for selected $γ$ transitions. The low-energy part of the experimental level scheme (up to about 1.4 MeV) was com…
Level structure of the $^{12}_Λ$C hypernucleus was precisely determined by means of $γ$-ray spectroscopy. We identified four $γ$-ray transitions via the $^{12}$C$(π^{+},K^{+}γ)$ reaction using a germanium detector array, Hyperball2. The spacing of the ground-state doublet $(2^{-}_{1},1^{-}_{1})$ was measured to be $161.5\pm0.3\text{(stat)}\pm0.3\text{(syst)}$\,keV from the direct $M1$ transition. Excitation energies of the $1^{-}_{2}$ and $1^{-}_{3}$ states were measured to be $2832\pm3\pm4$\,keV and $6050\pm8\pm7$\,keV, respectively. The obtained level energies provide definitive references f…

The excitation spectra in the deformed nucleus 230Th were studied by means of the (p,t) reaction, using the Q3D spectrograph facility at the Munich Tandem accelerator. The angular distributions of tritons are measured for about 200 excitations seen in the triton spectra up to 3.3 MeV. Firm 0+ assignments are made for 16 excited states by comparison of experimental angular distributions with the calculated ones using the CHUCK code. Additional assignments are possible: relatively firm for 4 states and tentative also for 4 states. Assignments up to spin $6^+$ are made for other states. Sequences…
Excited states of $^{38}_{17}$Cl$_{21}$ were populated in grazing reactions during the interaction of a beam of $^{36}_{16}$S$_{20}$ ions of energy 215 MeV with a $^{208}_{82}$Pb$_{126}$ target. The combination of the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer and the CLARA $γ$-ray detector array was used to identify the reaction fragments and to detect their decay via $γ$-ray emission. A level scheme for $^{38}$Cl is presented with tentative spin and parity assignments. The level scheme is discussed within the context of the systematics of neighboring nuclei and is compared with the results of state-of-the…
Gamow-Teller and dipole transitions to final states in 13B were studied via the 13C(t,3He) reaction at Et = 115 AMeV. Besides the strong Gamow-Teller transition to the 13B ground state, a weaker Gamow-Teller transition to a state at 3.6 MeV was found. This state was assigned a spin-parity of 3/2- by comparison with shell-model calculations using the WBP and WBT interactions which were modified to allow for mixing between nhw and (n+2)hw configurations. This assignment agrees with a recent result from a lifetime measurement of excited states in 13B. The shell-model calculations also explained t…
An extended database of experimental data is needed to address uncertainties of the nuclear-physics input parameters for Hauser-Feshbach calculations. Especially $α$+nucleus optical model potentials at low energies are not well known. The in-beam technique with an array of high-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors was successfully applied to the measurement of absolute cross sections of an ($α$,$γ$) reaction on a heavy nucleus at sub-Coulomb energies. The total and partial cross-section values were measured by means of in-beam $γ$-ray spectroscopy. Total and partial cross sections were measured a…
We searched for the bound state of the neutron-rich $Λ$-hypernucleus ${}^{6}_Λ$H, using the ${}^{6}$Li($π^{-}, K^{+}$)X double charge-exchange reaction at a $π^{-}$ beam momentum of 1.2 GeV/c at J-PARC. A total of $1.4 \times 10^{12}$ $π^{-}$ was driven onto a ${}^{6}$Li target of 3.5-g/$\rm cm^2$ thickness. No event was observed below the bound threshold, i.e., the mass of ${}^{4}_Λ$H + 2n, in the missing-mass spectrum of the ${}^{6}$Li($π^{-}, K^{+}$)X reaction in the $2^{\circ}$ < $θ_{πK}$ < $20^{\circ}$ angular range. Furthermore, no event was found up to 2.8 MeV/$c^2$ above the bound thre…
The 24Mg(3He,t)24Al reaction has been studied at E(3He)=420 MeV. An energy resolution of 35 keV was achieved. Gamow-Teller strengths to discrete levels in 24Al are extracted by using a recently developed empirical relationship for the proportionality between Gamow-Teller strengths and differential cross sections at zero momentum transfer. Except for small discrepancies for a few weak excitations, good agreement with previous 24Mg(p,n) data and nuclear-structure calculations using the USDA/B interactions in the sd shell-model space is found. The excitation energy of several levels in 24Al of si…
The two-body core+$2n$ cluster structure was implemented to describe the two-neutron halo nucleus $^{\mathrm{14}}\mathrm{Be}$, where the core$^{\mathrm{12}}\mathrm{Be}$ was assumed inert and at ground state and the dineutron was assumed at pure $2S_0$ state. Based on such a structure the three-body continuum-discretized coupled-channel (CDCC) calculation was successfully used to deal with the $^{\mathrm{14}}\mathrm{Be}$ breakup reactions of $^{\mathrm{14}}\mathrm{Be}+^{\mathrm{12}}\mathrm{C}$ at 68~MeV/nucleon and $^{\mathrm{14}}\mathrm{Be}+ $Pb at 35~MeV/nucleon.Consequently, we modeled the k…

A pioneering experiment in Lambda hypernuclear spectroscopy, undertaken at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jlab), was recently reported. The experiment used the high- precision, continuous electron beam at Jlab, and a special arrangement of spectrometer magnets to measure the spectrum from {nat}C and 7Li targets using the (e,e' K+)reaction. The 12B hypernuclear spectrum was previously published. This experiment is now reported in more detail, with improved results for the 12B hypernuclear spectrum. In addition, unpublished results of the 7He hypernuclear spectrum are also s…
We observed the atomic $1s$ and $2p$ states of $π^-$ bound to ${}^{121}{\rm Sn}$ nuclei as distinct peak structures in the missing mass spectra of the ${}^{122}{\rm Sn}(d,{}^3{\rm He})$ nuclear reaction. A very intense deuteron beam and a spectrometer with a large angular acceptance let us achieve potential of discovery, which includes capability of determining the angle-dependent cross sections with high statistics. The $2p$ state in a Sn nucleus was observed for the first time. The binding energies and widths of the pionic states are determined and found to be consistent with previous experi…
The precise knowledge of the half-life of the reaction product is of crucial importance for a nuclear reaction cross section measurement carried out with the activation technique. The cross section of the $^{92}$Mo($α$,n)$^{95}$Ru reaction was measured recently using this experimental approach. The preliminary results indicated that the literature half-life of $^{95}$Ru, derived about half a century ago, is overestimated. Therefore, the half-lives of $^{95}$Ru and its daughter isotope $^{95}$Tc and $^{95m}$Tc have been measured with high precision using $γ$-spectroscopy. The results are t$_{1/…
The missing mass spectroscopy of $Ξ^{-}$ hypernuclei with the $(K^{-},K^{+})$ reaction is planned to be performed at the J-PARC K1.8 beam line by using a new magnetic spectrometer, Strangeness $-2$ Spectrometer (S-2S). A $Č$cerenkov detector with a radiation medium of pure water (refractive index of 1.33) is designed to be used for on-line proton rejection for a momentum range of 1.2 to 1.6 GeV/$c$ in S-2S. Prototype water $Č$erenkov detectors were developed and tested with positron beams and cosmic rays to estimate their proton-rejection capability. We achieved an average number of photoelect…
We present a fast neutron spectroscopy system based on a nitrogen-filled, large volume gaseous detector, the Spherical Proportional Counter. The system has been successfully operated up to gas pressure of 1.5 bar. Neutron energy is estimated through measurement of the 14N(n,a)11B and 14N(n,p)14C reaction products. These reactions have comparable cross sections and Q-values with the 3He(n,p)3H reaction making nitrogen a good alternative to 3He use for fast neutron detection. Two detectors were built at the University of Birmingham and are currently used for the measurement of fast and thermal n…
We report on the first in-beam $γ$-ray spectroscopy of \nuc{23}{Al} using two different reactions at intermediate beam energies: inelastic scattering off \nuc{9}{Be} and heavy-ion induced one-proton pickup, \nuc{9}{Be}(\nuc{22}{Mg},\nuc{23}{Al}$+γ$)X, at 75.1 MeV/nucleon. A $γ$-ray transition at 1616(8) keV -- exceeding the proton separation energy by 1494 keV -- was observed in both reactions. From shell model and proton decay calculations we argue that this $γ$-ray decay proceeds from the core-excited $7/2^+$ state to the $5/2^+$ ground state of \nuc{23}{Al}. The proposed nature of this stat…
Background: The $^{136}$Ba isotope is the daughter nucleus in $^{136}$Xe $ββ$ decay. It also lies in a shape transitional region of the nuclear chart, making it a suitable candidate to test a variety of nuclear models. Purpose: To obtain spectroscopic information on states in $^{136}$Ba, which will allow a better understanding of its low-lying structure. These data may prove useful to constrain future $^{136}$Xe $\to$ $^{136}$Ba neutrinoless $ββ$ decay matrix element calculations. Methods: A $^{138}\mathrm{Ba}(p,t)$ reaction was used to populate states in $^{136}$Ba up to approximately 4.6 MeV…
The structure of $^{35}$P was studied with a one-proton knockout reaction at88~MeV/u from a $^{36}$S projectile beam at NSCL. The $γ$ rays from thedepopulation of excited states in $^{35}$P were detected with GRETINA, whilethe $^{35}$P nuclei were identified event-by-event in the focal plane of theS800 spectrograph. The level scheme of $^{35}$P was deduced up to 7.5 MeV using$γ-γ$ coincidences. The observed levels were attributed to protonremovals from the $sd$-shell and also from the deeply-bound $p\_{1/2}$ orbital. The orbital angular momentum of each state was derived from the comparisonbetw…
We show that the combined analysis of the quasicontinuous gamma spectra from the (He-3,alpha) and the (n-thermal,2gamma) reactions gives the possibility to measure the electromagnetic character of soft dipole resonances. Two-step gamma-cascade spectra have been calculated, using level densities and radiative strength functions from the (He-3,alpha gamma) reaction. The calculations show that the intensity of the two-step cascades depends on the electromagnetic character of the soft dipole resonance under study. The difference reaches 40-100% which can be measured experimentally.
Uncertainties in the thermonuclear rates of the $^{15}$O($α,γ$)$^{19}$Ne and $^{18}$F($p,α$)$^{15}$O reactions affect model predictions of light curves from type I X-ray bursts and the amount of the observable radioisotope $^{18}$F produced in classical novae, respectively. To address these uncertainties, we have studied the nuclear structure of $^{19}$Ne over $E_{x} = 4.0 - 5.1$ MeV and $6.1 - 7.3$ MeV using the $^{19}$F($^{3}$He,t)$^{19}$Ne reaction. We find the $J^π$ values of the 4.14 and 4.20 MeV levels to be consistent with $9/2^{-}$ and $7/2^{-}$ respectively, in contrast to previous as…
The characteristics of the Jefferson Lab electron beam, together with those of the experimental equipment, offer a unique opportunity to study hypernuclear spectroscopy via electromagnetic induced reactions. Experiment 94-107 started a systematic study on 1p-shell targets, $^{12}C$, $^{9}Be$ and $^{16}O$. For $^{12}C$ for the first time measurable strength in the core-excited part of the spectrum between the ground state and the p state was shown in $^{12}_ΛB$ spectrum. A high-quality $^{16}_ΛN$ spectrum was produced for the first time with sub-MeV energy resolution. A very precise $Λ$ binding…
We report on the first in-beam $γ$-ray spectroscopy of the proton-dripline nucleus $^{40}$Sc using two-nucleon pickup onto an intermediate-energy rare-isotope beam of $^{38}$Ca. The $^{9}$Be($^{38}$Ca,$^{40}$Sc$+γ$)X reaction at 60.9 MeV/nucleon mid-target energy selectively populates states in $^{40}$Sc for which the transferred proton and neutron couple to high orbital angular momentum. In turn, due to angular-momentum selection rules in proton emission and the nuclear structure and energetics of $^{39}$Ca, such states in $^{40}$Sc then exhibit $γ$-decay branches although they are well above…
In order to provide data for the simulation of the astrophysical $γ$-process, the cross section measurement of the $^{124}$Xe(p,$γ$)$^{125}$Cs reaction is in progress at MTA Atomki using the activation technique. Precise information on the decay characteristics of the reaction products is of crucial importance for measurements carried out using this method. The half-lives of the produced $^{125}$Cs and its daughter $^{125}$Xe are published in previous works, but with large uncertainties and ambiguous values. To make these nuclear parameters more precise, the half-lives have been re-measured wi…
The fission probability of 232Pa was measured as a function of the excitation energy in order to search for hyperdeformed (HD) transmission resonances using the (d,pf) transfer reaction on a radioactive 231Pa target. The experiment was performed at the Tandem accelerator of the Maier-Leibnitz Laboratory (MLL) at Garching using the 231Pa(d,pf) reaction at a bombarding energy of E=12 MeV and with an energy resolution of dE=5.5 keV. Two groups of transmission resonances have been observed at excitation energies of E=5.7 and 5.9 MeV. The fine structure of the resonance group at E=5.7 MeV could be …
Activation cross sections of the natEr(d,x)163,165,166,167,168,170Tm and natEr(d,x)171,161Er nuclear reactions have been measured in the 32-50 MeV energy range, above 40 MeV for the first time. The activation method with stacked foil irradiation technique and gamma-ray spectroscopy were used. The experimental cross sections were compared with the theoretical predictions in the TENDL-2015 library.
With the aid of the Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation package a new detection system has been designed for the focal plane of the recoil separator VASSILISSA situated at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, JINR, Dubna. GABRIELA (Gamma Alpha Beta Recoil Investigations with the Electromagnetic Analyser VASSILISSA) has been optimised to detect the arrival of reaction products and their subsequent radioactive decays involving the emission of alpha- and beta-particles, fission fragments, gamma- and X-rays, and conversion electrons. The new detector system is described and the results of the fir…
Measurements of the N=28 isotones 42Si, 43P and 44S using one- and two-proton knockout reactions from the radioactive beam nuclei 44S and 46Ar are reported. The knockout reaction cross sections for populating 42Si and 43P and a 184 keV gamma-ray observed in 43P establish that the d_{3/2} and s_{1/2} proton orbits are nearly degenerate in these nuclei and that there is a substantial Z=14 subshell closure separating these two orbits from the d_{5/2} orbit. The increase in the inclusive two-proton knockout cross section from 42Si to 44S demonstrates the importance of the availability of valence p…

Missing mass spectroscopy with the $(e,e^{\prime}K^{+})$ reaction was performed at Jefferson Laboratory's Hall C for the neutron rich $Λ$ hypernucleus $^{9}_Λ{\rm Li}$. The ground state energy was obtained to be $B_Λ^{\rm g.s.}=8.84\pm0.17^{\rm stat.}\pm0.15^{\rm sys.}~{\rm MeV}$ by using shell model calculations of a cross section ratio and an energy separation of the spin doublet states ($3/2^{+}_1$ and $5/2^{+}_1$). In addition, peaks that are considered to be states of [$^{8}{\rm Li}(3^{+})\otimes s_Λ=3/2^{+}_{2}, 1/2^{+}$] and [$^{8}{\rm Li}(1^{+})\otimes s_Λ=5/2^{+}_{2}, 7/2^{+}$] were o…
In the frame of a systematic study of excitation functions of deuteron induced reactions the excitation functions of the $^{133}$Cs(d,x)$^{133m,133mg,131mg}$Ba, ${134,132}$Cs and $^{129m}$Xe nuclear reactions were measured up to 40 MeV deuteron energies by using the stacked foil irradiation technique and $γ$-ray spectroscopy of activated samples. The results were compared with calculations performed with the theoretical nuclear reaction codes ALICE-IPPE-D, EMPIRE II-D and TALYS calculation listed in the TENDL-2014 library. A moderate agreement was obtained. Based on the integral yields deduced…
Background: In the "island of inversion", ground states of neutron-rich $sd$-shell nuclei exhibit strong admixtures of intruder configurations from the $fp$ shell. The nucleus $^{30}$Mg, located at the boundary of the island of inversion, serves as a cornerstone to track the structural evolution as one approaches this region. Purpose: Spin-parity assignments for excited states in $^{30}$Mg, especially negative-parity levels, have yet to be established. In the present work, the nuclear structure of $^{30}$Mg was investigated by in-beam $γ$-ray spectroscopy mainly focusing on firm spin-parity de…
In the present study we have measured the excitation functions for the nuclear reactions $^{100}$Mo($α$,n)$^{103}$Ru, $^{nat}$Mo($α$,x)$^{97}$Ru, $^{nat}$Mo($α$,x)$^{95}$Ru, $^{nat}$Mo($α$,x)$^{96g}$Tc, $^{nat}$Mo($α$,x)$^{95g}$Tc and $^{nat}$Mo($α$,x)$^{94g}$Tc in the energy range 11-32 MeV. We have used the stacked foil activation technique followed by off-line gamma ray spectroscopy technique to measure the excitation functions. In this study we have also documented detailed uncertainty analysis for these nuclear reactions and their corresponding covariance matrix are also presented. The ex…
