A method is developed to consider the particle-phonon coupling (PC) effects in the problem of finding odd-even double mass differences (DMD) of magic nuclei within the approach starting from the free $NN$-potential. Three PC effects are taken into account, the phonon induced interaction, the renormalization of the "ends" due to the $Z$-factors and the change of the single-particle energies. We use the perturbation theory in $g^2_L$, where $g_L$ is the vertex of the $L$-phonon creation. PC corrections to single-particle energies are found self-consistently with an approximate account for the so-called tadpole diagram. Results for double-magic $^{132}$Sn and $^{208}$Pb nuclei show that the PC corrections make agreement with the experimental data better.
A method is presented to evaluate the particle-phonon coupling (PC) corrections to the single-particle energies (SPEs) in semi-magic nuclei. In such nuclei always there is a collective low-lying $2^+$ phonon, and a strong mixture of single-particle and particle-phonon states often occurs. As in magic nuclei, the so-called $g^2_L$ approximation, where $g_L$ is the vertex of the $L$-phonon creation, can be used for finding the PC correction $δΣ^{\rm PC}(\varepsilon)$ to the initial mass operator $Σ_0$. In addition to the usual pole diagram, the phonon "tadpole" diagram is also taken into account…
A method of a consistent consideration of the phonon contributions to mass and gap operators in non-magic nuclei is developed in the so-called g^2 approximation, where g is the low-lying phonon creation amplitude. It includes simultaneous accounting for both the usual non-local terms and the phonon tadpole ones. The relations which allow the tadpoles to be calculated without any new parameters are derived. As an application of the results, the role of the phonon tadpoles in the single-particle strength distribution and in the single-particle energies and gap values has been considered. Relatio…
The iterative quasi-particle-random-phase approximation (QRPA) method we previously developed to accurately calculate properties of individual nuclear states is extended so that it can be applied for nuclei with odd numbers of neutrons and protons. The approach is based on the proton-neutron-QRPA (pnQRPA) and uses an iterative non-hermitian Arnoldi diagonalization method where the QRPA matrix does not have to be explicitly calculated and stored. The method is used to calculate excitation energies of proton-neutron multiplets for several nuclei. The influence of a pairing interaction in the $T=…
The structure of the collective low-energy $J^π=0^{-}$ (T=0 and T=1) modes is studied for a doubly magic nucleus in a schematic analytic model of RPA. The $0^{-}$ phonon states ($T= 0,1$) lie at energies $E_{T=0}(0^{-}) \alt ω$ and $E_{T=1}(0^{-}) > ω$, where $ω$ is the oscillator frequency. The matrix elements of P-odd and P- and T-odd weak one-body potentials connecting the ground state to these $0^{-}$-states, $W_{coll}$, are enhanced by the factor $\sim 2 (\fracω{E})^{1/2}A^{1/3} \sim 10$ as compared to the single-particle value $w_{sp}$ what can result in values $|W_{coll}| \sim 20-30 eV$…
A method is developed to consider the particle-phonon coupling (PC) effects in the calculation of the odd-even double mass differences (DMD) in semi-magic nuclei starting from the free $NN$-potential. The PC correction $δΣ^{\rm PC}$ to the mass operator $Σ$ is found in $g_L^2$-approximation, $g_L$ being the vertex of creating the $L$-phonon. The tadpole term of the operator $δΣ^{\rm PC}$ is taken into account. The method is based on a direct, without any use of the perturbation theory, solution of the Dyson equation with the mass operator $Σ(ε){=}Σ_0{+}δΣ^{\rm PC}(ε)$ for finding the single-pa…
Ground state quadrupole moments of odd-odd near double magic nuclei are calculated in the approximation of no interaction between odd particles. Under such a simple approximation, the problem is reduced to the calculations of quadrupole moments of corresponding odd-even nuclei. These calculations are performed within the self-consistent Theory of Finite Fermi Systems based on the Energy Density Functional by Fayans et al. with the known DF3-a parameters. A reasonable agreement with the available experimental data has been obtained for odd-odd nuclei and odd near-magic nuclei investigated. The …
General equations for one- particle Green function in non- magic nuclei have been derived where a pairing mechanism, which is analogous to the Bardeen- Cooper- Schrieffer one, has been singled out explicitely. A "refining" procedure for the phenomenological single- particle energies and pairing gaps is formulated to avoid double counting of the phonon mixing if the initial data of the problem are these phenomenological quantities. The general equations obtained have been written in the squared phonon creation amplitude approximation. This corresponds to taking quasiparticle$\otimes$phonon conf…
A method to evaluate the particle-phonon coupling (PC) corrections to the single-particle energies in semi-magic nuclei, based on a direct solving the Dyson equation with PC corrected mass operator, is used for finding the odd-even mass difference between 18 even Pb isotopes and their odd-proton neighbors. The Fayans energy density functional (EDF) DF3-a is used which gives rather high accuracy of the predictions for these mass differences already on the mean-field level, with the average deviation from the existing experimental data equal to 0.389 MeV. It is only a bit worse than the correspo…
We use the nuclear density functional theory to determine nuclear electric quadrupole and magnetic dipole moments in all one-particle and one-hole neighbours of eight doubly magic nuclei. We align angular momenta along the intrinsic axial-symmetry axis with broken time-reversal symmetry, which allows us to explore fully the self-consistent charge, spin, and current polarisation. Spectroscopic moments are determined for symmetry-restored wave functions and compared with available experimental data. We find that the obtained polarisations do not call for using quadrupole- or dipole-moment operat…
A method to evaluate the particle-phonon coupling (PC) corrections to the single-particle energies in semi-magic nuclei, based on the direct solution of the Dyson equation with PC corrected mass operator, is presented. It is used for finding the odd-even mass difference between even Pb and Sn isotopes and their odd-proton neighbors. The Fayans energy density functional (EDF) DF3-a is used which gives rather highly accurate predictions for these mass differences already at the mean-field level. In the case of the lead chain, account for the PC corrections induced by the low-laying phonons $2^+_…
Phonon coupling (PC) corrections to magnetic moments of odd neighbors of magic and semi-magic nuclei are analyzed within the self-consistent Theory of Finite Fermi Systems (TFFS) based on the Energy Density Functional by Fayans et al. The perturbation theory in g_L^2 is used where g_L is the phonon-particle coupling vertex. A model is developed with separating non-regular PC contributions, the rest is supposed to be regular and included into the standard TFFS parameters. An ansatz is proposed to take into account the so-called tadpole term which ensures the total angular momentum conservation …
We present a model which describes the properties of odd-even nuclei with one nucleon more, or less, with respect to the magic number. In addition to the effects related to the unpaired nucleon, we consider those produced by the excitation of the closed shell core. By using a single particle basis generated with Hartree-Fock calculations, we describe the polarization of the doubly magic-core with Random Phase Approximation collective wave functions. In every step of the calculation, and for all the nuclei considered, we use the same finite-range nucleon-nucleon interaction. We apply our model …
The self-consistent model, developed previously to describe phonon coupling (PC) effects in magnetic moments of odd magic and semi-magic nuclei, is extended to quadrupole moments. It is based on the theory of finite Fermi systems with the use of the perturbation theory in $g_L^2$, where $g_L$ is the vertex creating the $L$-phonon. Accounting for the phonon tadpole diagrams is an important ingredient of this model. The calculation scheme is based on the Fayans energy density functional DF3-a and does not contain any adjusted parameters. The odd In and Sb isotopes are considered, which are the p…
Neutron rich Ca and Ni nuclei have been studied in spherical Relativistic Mean Field formalism in co-ordinate space. A delta interaction has been has been adopted to treat the pairing correlations for the neutrons. Odd nuclei have been treated in the blocking approximation. The effect of the positive energy continuum and the role of pairing in the stability of nuclei have been investigated using the resonant-BCS (rBCS) approach. In Ca isotopes, N=50 is no longer a magic number while in Ni nuclei, a new magic number emerges at N=70. There is a remarkable difference in the relative positions of …
Distribution of the two phonon $γ$ vibrational collectivity in the rotating triaxial odd-$A$ nucleus, $^{103}$Nb, that is one of the three nuclides for which experimental data were reported recently, is calculated in the framework of the particle vibration coupling model based on the cranked shell model plus random phase approximation. This framework was previously utilized for analyses of the zero and one phonon bands in other mass region and is applied to the two phonon band for the first time. In the present calculation, three sequences of two phonon bands share collectivity almost equally …
Recent results of the description of quadrupole moments of odd semi-magic nuclei are briefly reviewed. They are based on the self-consistent theory of finite Fermi systems with account for the phonon-particle coupling (PC) effects. The self-consistent model for describing the PC effects was developed previously for magnetic moments. Account for the non-pole diagrams is an important ingredient of this model. In addition to previously reported results for the odd In and Sb isotopes, which are the proton-odd neighbors of even tin nuclei, we present new results for odd Bi isotopes, the odd neighbo…
Odd-even double mass differences (DMD) of magic nuclei are found within the approach starting from the free $NN$ interaction with account for particle-phonon coupling (PC) effects. We consider three PC effects: the phonon induced effective interaction, the renormalization of the "ends" due to the $Z$-factor corresponding to the pole PC contribution to the nucleon mass operator and the change of the single-particle energies. The perturbation theory in $g^2_L$, where $g_L$ is the vertex of the $L$-phonon creation, is used for PC calculations. PC corrections to single-particle energies are found …
Encouraged with the evidence for Z = 6 magic number in neutron-rich carbon isotopes, we have performed relativistic mean-field plus BCS calculations to investigate ground state properties of entire chains of isotopes(isotones) with Z(N) = 6 including even and odd mass nuclei. Our calculations include deformation, binding energy, separation energy, single particle energy, rms radii along with charge and neutron density profile etc., and are found in an excellent match with latest experimental results demonstrating Z = 6 as a strong magic number. N = 6 is also found to own similar kind of strong…
Recent results of the study of the particle-phonon coupling (PC) effects in odd magic and semi-magic nuclei within the self-consistent theory of finite Fermi systems are reviewed. In addition to the usual pole diagrams, the non-pole ones are considered. Their contributions are often of a crucial importance. PC corrections to the single-particle energies for $^{40}$Ca and $^{208}$Pb are presented. The quadrupole moments of odd In and Sb isotopes, the odd-proton neighbors of even Sn isotopes, are presented also with accounting for the PC corrections. At last, recently announced problem of extrem…
Examples of the change of neutron shell-structure in both weakly-bound and resonant neutron one-particle levels in nuclei towards the neutron drip line are exhibited. It is shown that the shell-structure change due to the weak binding may lead to the deformation of those nuclei with the neutron numbers $N \approx$ 8, 20, 28 and 40, which are known to be magic numbers in stable nuclei. Nuclei in the "island of inversion" are most easily and in a simple manner understood in terms of deformation. As an example of spectroscopic properties other than single-particle energies, magnetic moments of so…
Multi-phonon excitations in atomic nuclei were observed very rarely although collective motions in quantum many-body systems are described as bosonic excitations. In particular, the first two-phonon $γ$ vibrational ($2γ$) excitation in odd-$A$ nuclei was reported in 2006 and only a few have been known. Quite recently, conspicuously enhanced $B(E2)$s feeding $2γ$ states were observed in $^{105}$Nb and conjectured that their parent states are candidates of $3γ$ states. In the present work, the model space is enlarged from the present author's previous calculation for $^{103}$Nb. The purpose is t…
We have done systematic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations in coordinate space on the one-quasi-particle energies and binding energy odd-even staggering (OES) in semi-magic nuclei with the zero-range volume, mixed and surface pairing forces in order to explore the influence of their density dependence. The odd-$N$ isotopes are calculated within the blocking scheme. The strengths for the pairing forces are determined in two schemes by fitting locally to reproduce pairing gap in $^{120}$Sn and globally to all available data on the OES of semi-magic nuclei with $Z\geq8$. In the former calculati…
A method based on the consistent use of the Green function formalism has been developed to calculate the distribution of the single-particle strength in odd nuclei with pairing. The method takes into account the quasiparticle-phonon interaction, ground state correlations and a "refinement" of phenomenological single-particle energies and pairing gap values from the quasiparticle-phonon interaction under consideration. The calculations for 121Sn and 119Sn that were performed in the quasiparticle$\otimes$phonon approximation, have shown a reasonable agreement with experiment. The ground state co…
The $γ$ vibration is the most typical low-lying collective motion prevailing the nuclear chart. But only few one-phonon rotational bands in odd-$A$ nuclei have been known. Furthermore, two-phonon states, even the band head, have been observed in a very limited number of nuclides not only of odd-$A$ but even-even. Among them, that in $^{105}$Mo is unique in that Coriolis effects are expected to be stronger than in $^{103}$Nb and $^{105}$Nb on which theoretical studies were reported. Then the purpose of the present work is to study $^{105}$Mo paying attention to rotational character change of th…
The neutron and proton odd-even mass differences are studied with Hartree-Fock+BCS (HFBCS) calculations with Skyrme interactions and an isospin dependent contact pairing interaction, which is recently derived from a microscopic nucleon-nucleon interaction. To this end, we perform HFBCS calculations for even and odd semi-magic Tin and Lead isotopes together with even and odd Z isotones with $N$= 50 and 82. The filling approximation is applied to the last unoccupied particle in odd nuclei. Comparisons with the experimental data show a clear manifestation of the isospin dependent pairing correlat…
Within a microscopic approach which takes into account RPA configurations, the single-particle continuum and more complex $1p1h\otimes phonon$ configurations isoscalar and isovector M1 excitations for the unstable nuclei ${56,78}$Ni and ${100,132}$Sn are calculated. For comparison, the experimentally known M1 excitations in ${40}$Ca and $^{208}$Pb have also been calculated. In the latter nuclei good agreement in the centroid energy, the total transition strength and the resonance width is obtained. With the same parameters we predict the magnetic excitations for the unstable nuclei. The streng…
The self-consistent Theory of Finite Fermi Systems based on the Energy Density Functional by Fayans et al. with the set DF3-a of parameters fixed previously is used to calculate three kinds of quadrupole moments. At first, we examined systematically quadrupole moments of odd neighbors of semi-magic lead and tin isotopes and $N=50,N=82$ isotones. Second, we found quadrupole moments of the first $2^+$ states in the same two chains of isotopes. Finally, we evaluated quadrupole moments of odd-odd nuclei neighboring to double magic ones. Reasonable agreement with available experimental data has bee…
In the framework of the two-group configuration model we obtain formulas for the reduced transition rates for beta- and gamma-transitions in even-even, odd-odd, even-odd, and odd-even nuclei. We explored dependencies of the transition rates on the occupancies of the involved subshells, as well as on the spin values of the initial and final states. The obtained formulas are useful for the qualitative spectroscopic analysis of experimental data, particulary in the regions of magicity, including the regions of the "remote" nuclei.

We consider deformed nuclei within an effective theory that exploits the small ratio between rotational and vibrational excitations. For even-even nuclei, the effective theory predicts small changes in the rotational constants of bands built on multi-phonon excitations that are linear in the number of excited phonons. In 166Er and 168Er, this explains the main variations of the rotational constants of the two-phonon gamma vibrational bands. In 232Th, the effective theory correctly explains the trend that the rotational constants decrease with increasing spin of the band head. We also study the…
Inspired by the recent experimental data (Phys. Lett. B {\bf 675} (2009) 420), we extend the triaxial projected shell model approach to study the $γ$-band structure in odd-mass nuclei. As a first application of the new development, the $γ$-vibrational structure of $^{103}$Nb is investigated. It is demonstrated that the model describes the ground-state band and multi-phonon $γ$-vibrations quite satisfactorily, supporting the interpretation of the data as one of the few experimentally-known examples of simultaneous occurrence of one- and two-$γ$-phonon vibrational bands. This generalizes the wel…
An enhanced model, based on the Extended Boson Approximation, for the lowest-lying states in odd-mass nuclei is presented. Our approach is built on the Quasiparticle Phonon Model, extending it to take into account the ground state correlations due to the action of the Pauli principle more accurately than in the conventional theory. The derived interaction strengths between the quasiparticles and the phonons in this model depend on the quasiparticle occupation numbers explicitly coupling the odd-mass nucleus equations with those of the even-even core. Within this model we calculated the transit…
We present a new scheme to select the most relevant phonons in the phonon-coupling model, named here time-blocking approximation (TBA). The new criterion, based on the phonon-nucleon coupling strengths rather than on $B(EL)$ values, is more selective and thus produces much smaller phonon spaces in TBA. This is beneficial in two respects: first, it curbs down the computational cost, and second, it reduces the danger of double counting in the expansion basis of TBA. We use here TBA in a form where the coupling strength is regularized to keep the given Hartree-Fock ground state stable. The scheme…
It is well known that the Pauli principle plays a substantial role at low energies because the phonon operators are not ideal boson operators. Calculating the exact commutators between the quasiparticle and phonon operators one can take into account the Pauli principle corrections. Besides the ground state correlations due to the quasiparticle interaction in the ground state influence the single particle fragmentation as well. In this paper, we generalize the basic QPM equations to account for both mentioned effects. As an illustration of our approach, calculations on the structure of the low-…
In the present study, some static properties of odd isotopes of Ca were investigated in the non-relativistic shell model. We also suggested a novel suitable local potential model for the non-microscopic investigation of the mentioned nuclei. We modeled the odd $^{41-49}$Ca nuclei as doubly-magic isotopes, with further nucleons (valence) in the lf7/2 and 2p3/2 levels. Then the modified Eckart potential as well as Hulthen potential were chosen for the interaction between core and nucleons. We also used the Parametric Nikiforov Uvarov method to calculate the values of energy, the radius of charge…

The microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model, MQPM, is used to study the energy spectra of the odd $Z=53 - 63$, N=82 isotones. The results are compared with experimental data, with the extreme quasiparticle-phonon limit and with the results of an unrestricted $2s1d0g_{7/2}0h_{11/2}$ shell model (SM) calculation. The interaction used in these calculations is a realistic two-body G-matrix interaction derived from modern meson-exchange potential models for the nucleon-nucleon interaction. For the shell model all the two-body matrix elements are renormalized by the $\hat{Q}$-box method whereas for t…
The quadrupole moments of odd neighbors of semi-magic lead and tin isotopes and $N=50,N=82$ isotones are calculated within the self-consistent Theory of Finite Fermi Systems based on the Energy Density Functional by Fayans et al. Two sets of parameters, DF3 and DF3-a, fixed previously are used. They differ by the spin-orbit and effective tensor force parameters, the latter being significantly bigger in the DF3-a functional. Results for the two functionals turned out to be rather different. The functional DF3-a leads to quadrupole moments in reasonable agreement with the experimental ones for m…
A scheme is presented to find single-particle spectroscopic factors (SF) of magic and semimagic nuclei within the self-consistent theory of finite Fermi systems (TFFS). In addition to the energy dependence of the mass operator $Σ$ induced by the surface-phonon coupling effects which are commonly considered in this problem, the in-volume energy dependence of the operator $Σ$ inherent in the self-consistent TFFS is also taken into account. This dependence arises due to the effect of high-lying particle-hole excitations and persists in nuclear matter. The self-consistent basis of the energy densi…
Magnetic moments of more than one hundred odd-odd spherical nuclei in ground and excited states are calculated within the self-consistent TFFS based on the EDF method by Fayans {\it et al}. We limit ourselves to nuclei with a neutron and a proton particle (hole) added to the magic or semimagic core. A simple model of no interaction between the odd nucleons is used. In most the cases we analyzed, a good agreement with the experimental data is obtained. Several cases are considered where this simple model does not work and it is necessary to go beyond. The unknown values of magnetic moments of m…
Two aspects of the problem of evaluating double odd-even mass differences D_2 in semi-magic nuclei are studied related to existence of two components with different properties, a superfluid nuclear subsystem and a non-superfluid one. For the superfluid subsystem, the difference D_2 is approximately equal to 2Δ, the gap Δbeing the solution of the gap equation. For the non-superfluid subsystem, D_2 is found by solving the equation for two-particle Green function for normal systems. Both equations under consideration contain the same effective pairing interaction. For the latter, the semi-microsc…
An equation of motion phonon method, developed for even nuclei and recently extended to odd systems with a valence particle, is formulated in the hole-phonon coupling scheme and applied to A=15 and A=21 isobars with a valence hole. The method derives a set of equations which yield an orthonormal basis of states composed of a hole coupled to an orthonormal basis of correlated n-phonon states (n = 0, 1, 2, . . .), built of constituent Tamm-Dancoff phonons, describing the excitations of a doubly magic core. The basis is then adopted to solve the full eigenvalue problem. The method is formally exa…
The neutron capture cross sections and average radiative widths of neutron resonances for two double-magic nuclei 132Sn and 208Pb have been calculated using the microscopic photon strength functions, which were obtained within the microscopic self-consistent version of the extended theory of finite Fermi systems in the time blocking approximation. For the first time, the microscopic PSFs have been obtained within the fully self-consistent approach with exact accounting for the single particle continuum (for 208Pb). The approach includes phonon coupling effects in addition to the standard RPA a…
Single-particle levels of seven magic nuclei are calculated within the Energy Density Functional (EDF) method by Fayans et al. Three versions of the EDF are used, the initial Fayans functional DF3 and its two variations, DF3-a and DF3-b, with different values of spin-orbit parameters. Comparison is made with predictions of the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock method with the HFB-17 functional. For the DF3-a functional, phonon coupling (PC) corrections to single-particle energies are found self-consistently with an approximate account for the tadpole diagram. Account for the PC corrections improves agreemen…
A unified theoretical model reproducing charge radii of known atomic nuclei plays an essential role in making extrapolations for unknown nuclei. Recently developed new ansatz which phenomenologically takes into account the neutron-proton short-range correlations ($np$-SRCs) can describe the discontinuity properties and odd-even staggering (OES) effect of charge radii along isotopic chains remarkably well. In this work, we further review the modified root-mean-square (rms) charge radii formula in the framework of relativistic mean field (RMF) theory. The charge radii are calculated along variou…
A new interpretation for the wobbling bands in the even-odd Lu isotopes is given within a particle-triaxial rotor semi-classical formalism. While in the previous papers the bands TSD1, TSD2, TSD3 and TSD4 are viewed as the ground, one, two and three phonon wobbling bands, here the corresponding experimental results are described as the ground band with spin equal to I=R+j, for R=0,2,4,...(TSD1), the ground band with I=R+j and R=1,3,5,...(TSD2), the one phonon excitations of TSD2 (TSD3), with the odd proton moving in the orbit $j=i_{13/2}$, and the ground band of I=R+j, with R=1,3,5,... and $j=…

Recent results of the Fayans energy density functional (EDF) for spherical nuclei are reviewed. A comparison is made with predictions of several Skyrme EDFs. The charge radii and characteristics of the first 2^+ excitations in semi-magic nuclei are briefly discussed. The single-particle spectra of doubly magic nuclei are considered in more detail. The phonon-particle coupling effects are analyzed including the so-called tadpole term.
The Green function formalism with a consistent account for phonon coupling (PC), based on the self-consistent theory of finite Fermi-systems, is applied for pygmy- and giant multipole resonances in magic nuclei with the aim to consider particle-hole (ph) and complex 1p1h phonon configurations. A new equation for the effective field, which describes nuclear polarizability, is obtained. It contains new PC contributions which are of interest in the energy region under consideration. They are due to: i)the tadpole effect in the standard ph-propagator, ii)two new induced interactions (caused by the…
In this work, we systematically investigate the favored $α$-decay half-lives and $α$ preformation probabilities of both odd-$A$ and doubly-odd nuclei related to ground and isomeric states around the doubly magic cores at $Z=82$, $N=82$ and at $Z=82$, $N=126$, respectively, within a two-potential approach from the view of the valence nucleon (or hole). The results show that the $α$ preformation probability is linear related to $N_\text{p}N_\text{n}$ or $N_\text{p}N_\text{n}I$, where $N_\text{p}$, $N_\text{n}$, and $I$ are the number of valence protons (or holes), the number of valence neutrons …
Background: Two-phonon excitations originating from the coupling of two collective one-phonon states are of great interest in nuclear structure physics. One possibility to generate low-lying $E1$ excitations is the coupling of quadrupole and octupole phonons. Methods: $(\vecγ,γ')$ experiments have been carried out at the High Intensity $γ$-ray Source (HI$γ$S) facility in combination wit…
