Groups with commuting inner mappings are of nilpotency class at most two, but there exist loops with commuting inner mappings and of nilpotency class higher than two, called loops of Csörgő type. In order to obtain small loops of Csörgő type, we expand our programme from `Explicit constructions of loops with commuting inner mappings', European J. Combin. 29 (2008), 1662-1681, and analyze the following setup in groups:
Let $G$ be a group, $Z\le Z(G)$, and suppose that $δ:G/Z\times G/Z\to Z$ satisfies $δ(x,x)=1$, $δ(x,y)=δ(y,x)^{-1}$, $z^{yx}δ([z,y],x) = z^{xy}δ([z,x],y)$ for every $x$, $y$, $z\in G$, and $δ(xy,z) = δ(x,z)δ(y,z)$ whenever $\{x,y,z\}\cap G'$ is not empty.
Then there is $μ:G/Z\times G/Z\to Z$ with $δ(x,y) = μ(x,y)μ(y,x)^{-1}$ such that the multiplication $x*y=xyμ(x,y)$ defines a loop with commuting inner mappings, and this loop is of Csörgő type (of nilpotency class three) if and only if $g(x,y,z) = δ([x,y],z)δ([y,z],x)δ([z,x],y)$ is nontrivial.
Moreover, $G$ has nilpotency class at most three, and if $g$ is nontrivial then $|G|\ge 128$, $|G|$ is even, and $g$ induces a trilinear alternating form. We describe all nontrivial setups $(G,Z,δ)$ with $|G|=128$. This allows us to construct for the first time a loop of Csörgő type with an inner mapping group that is not elementary abelian.
A loop is automorphic if all its inner mappings are automorphisms. We construct the free commutative automorphic $2$-generated loop of nilpotency class $3$. It has dimension $8$ over the integers.
We investigate the relation between the structure of a Moufang loop and its inner mapping group. Moufang loops of odd order with commuting inner mappings have nilpotency class at most two. $6$-divisible Moufang loops with commuting inner mappings have nilpotency class at most two. There is a Moufang loop of order $2^{14}$ with commuting inner mappings and of nilpotency class three.
A loop is automorphic if its inner mappings are automorphisms. Using so-called associated operations, we show that every commutative automorphic loop of odd prime power order is centrally nilpotent. Starting with anisotropic planes in the vector space of $2\times 2$ matrices over the field of prime order $p$, we construct a family of automorphic loops of order $p^3$ with trivial center.
In 2004, Csörgő constructed a loop of nilpotency class three with abelian group of inner mappings. Until now, no other examples were known. We construct many such loops from groups of nilpotency class two by replacing the product $xy$ with $xyh$ in certain positions, where $h$ is a central involution. The location of the replacements is ultimately governed by a symmetric trilinear alternating form.
In this paper, we study the properties of the associated gyrogroup ${^\circ}G$ of a given group $G$ of nilpotency class $3$. We have proved that if $3$ does not divide the order of the group $G$, then the nilpotency class of the associated gyrogroup ${^\circ}G$ is same as that of the group $G$. We have also studied the problem of abelian inner mapping group in this context.
We consider maps between commutative groups and their functional degrees. These degrees are defined based on a simple idea -- the functional degree should decrease if a discrete derivative is taken. We show that the maps of finite functional degree are precisely the maps that can be written as polyfracts, as polynomials in several variables but with binomial functions in the place of powers. Moreover, the degree of a polyfract coincides with its functional degree. We use this to determine the largest possible finite functional degree that the maps between two given finite commutative groups ca…
This research was motivated by universal algebraic geometry. One of the central questions of universal algebraic geometry is: when two algebras have the same algebraic geometry? For answer of this question (see [Pl],[Ts]) we must consider the variety, to which our algebras belongs, the category K of all finitely generated free algebras of our variety and research how the group of all the automorphisms of this category AutK are different from the group of the all inner automorphisms of this category InnK. An automorphism of the category is called inner, if it is isomorphic as functor to the ide…
A loop whose inner mappings are automorphisms is an \emph{automorphic loop} (or \emph{A-loop}). We characterize commutative (A-)loops with middle nucleus of index 2 and solve the isomorphism problem. Using this characterization and certain central extensions based on trilinear forms, we construct several classes of commutative A-loops of order a power of 2. We initiate the classification of commutative A-loops of small orders and also of order $p^3$, where $p$ is a prime.
We give a further development of the Aichinger-Moosbauer calculus of functional degrees of maps between commutative groups. For any fixed given commutative groups $A$ and $B$, we compute the largest possible finite functional degree that a map $f: A \longrightarrow B$ can have. We also determine the set of all possible degrees of such maps. This also yields a solution to Aichinger and Moosbauer's problem of finding the nilpotency index of the augmentation ideal of group rings of the form $Z_{p^β}[Z_{p^{α_1}}\times Z_{p^{α_2}}\times\dotsm\times Z_{p^{α_n}}]$ with $p,β,n,α_1,\dotsc,α_n\in\mathbb…
We give a sufficient condition on a finite $p$-group $G$ of nilpotency class 2 so that $\Aut_c(G) = \Inn(G)$, where $\Aut_c(G)$ and $\Inn(G)$ denote the group of all class preserving automorphisms and inner automorphisms of $G$ respectively. Next we prove that if $G$ and $H$ are two isoclinic finite groups (in the sense of P. Hall), then $\Aut_c(G) \cong \Aut_c(H)$. Finally we study class preserving automorphisms of groups of order $p^5$ and prove that $\Aut_c(G) = \Inn(G)$ for all the groups of order $p^5$ except two isoclinism families.

An \emph{automorphic loop} (or \emph{A-loop}) is a loop whose inner mappings are automorphisms. Every element of a commutative A-loop generates a group, and $(xy)^{-1} = x^{-1}y^{-1}$ holds. Let $Q$ be a finite commutative A-loop and $p$ a prime. The loop $Q$ has order a power of $p$ if and only if every element of $Q$ has order a power of $p$. The loop $Q$ decomposes as a direct product of a loop of odd order and a loop of order a power of 2. If $Q$ is of odd order, it is solvable. If $A$ is a subloop of $Q$ then $|A|$ divides $|Q|$. If $p$ divides $|Q|$ then $Q$ contains an element of order …
This is a companion to our lectures GAP and loops, to be delivered at the Workshops Loops 2007, Prague, Czech Republic. In the lectures we introduce the GAP package LOOPS, describe its capabilities, and explain in detail how to use it. In this paper we first outline the philosophy behind the package and its main features, and then we focus on three particular computational problems: construction of loop isomorphisms, classification of small Frattini Moufang loops of order 64, and the search for loops of nilpotency class higher than two with an abelian inner mapping group. In particular, this i…
In this paper we prove that every automorphism of (elementary) adjoint Chevalley group with root system of rank $>1$ over a commutative ring (with 1/2 for the systems $A_2$, $F_4$, $B_l$, $C_l$; with 1/2 and 1/3 for the system $G_2$) is standard, i.\,e., it is a composition of ring, inner, central and graph automorphisms.
A loop is said to be automorphic if its inner mappings are automorphisms. For a prime $p$, denote by $\mathcal A_p$ the class of all $2$-generated commutative automorphic loops $Q$ possessing a central subloop $Z\cong \mathbb Z_p$ such that $Q/Z\cong\mathbb Z_p\times\mathbb Z_p$. Upon describing the free $2$-generated nilpotent class two commutative automorphic loop and the free $2$-generated nilpotent class two commutative automorphic $p$-loop $F_p$ in the variety of loops whose elements have order dividing $p^2$ and whose associators have order dividing $p$, we show that every loop of $\math…
A loop is (right) automorphic if all its (right) inner mappings are automorphisms. Using the classification of primitive groups of small degrees, we show that there is no nonassociative simple commutative automorphic loop of order less than $2^{12}$, and no nonassociative simple automorphic loop of order less that 2500. We obtain examples of nonassociative simple right automorphic loops.
In the paper we prove that every automorphism of a Chevalley group of type $F_4$ over a commutative local ring with~1/2 is standard, i. e., it is a composition of ring and inner automorphisms.
In the given paper we prove that every automorphism of a Chevalley group of type $B_l$, $l\geqslant 2$, over a commutative local ring with 1/2 is standard, i. e., it is a composition of ring, inner and central automorphisms.
Based on the recent development of commutator theory for loops, we provide both syntactic and semantic characterization of abelian normal subloops. We highlight the analogies between well known central extensions and central nilpotence on one hand, and abelian extensions and congruence solvability on the other hand. In particular, we show that a loop is congruence solvable (that is, an iterated abelian extension of commutative groups) if and only if it is not Boolean complete, reaffirming the connection between computational complexity and solvability. Finally, we briefly discuss relations bet…
We prove that every isomorphism of Chevalley groups of type $G_2$ over commutative local rings with 1/2 and 1/3 is standard, i. e., it is a composition of a ring isomorphism and an inner automorphism.
In the given paper we prove that every automorphism of a Chevalley group of type $A_l$, $D_l$, or $E_l$, $l\geqslant 3$, over a commutative local ring without 1/2 is standard, i. e., it is a composition of ring, inner, central and graph automorphisms.
In the paper we prove that every automorphism of a (elementary) Chevalley group of type $A_l, D_l$, or $E_l$, $l\geqslant 2$, over a commutative local ring with 1/2 is standard, i. e., is the composition of inner, ring, graph and central automorphisms.
These notes accompany a series of three lectures on automorphic loops to be delivered by the author at Workshops Loops '15 (Ohrid, Macedonia, 2015). Automorphic loops are loops in which all inner mappings are automorphisms. The first paper on automorphic loops appeared in 1956 and there has been a surge of interest in the topic since 2010. The purpose of these notes is to introduce the methods used in the study of automorphic loops to a wider audience of researchers working in nonassociative mathematics. In the first lecture we establish basic properties of automorphic loops (flexibility, powe…
Automorphic loops are loops in which all inner mappings are automorphisms. This variety of loops includes groups and commutative Moufang loops. A half-isomorphism $f : G \longrightarrow K$ between multiplicative systems $G$ and $K$ is a bijection from $G$ onto $K$ such that $f(ab)\in\{f(a)f(b), f(b)f(a)\}$ for any $a,b\in G$. A half-isomorphism is trivial when it is either an isomorphism or an anti-isomorphism. Consider the class of automorphic loops such that the equation $x\cdot(x\cdot y) = (y\cdot x)\cdot x $ is equivalent to $x\cdot y = y\cdot x$. Here we show that this class of loops incl…
The derivation constant $K(A)\geq \frac{1}{2}$ has been extensively studied for \emph{unital} non-commutative $C^*$-algebras. In this paper, we investigate properties of $K(M(A))$ where $M(A)$ is the multiplier algebra of a non-unital $C^*$-algebra $A$. A number of general results are obtained which are then applied to the group $C^*$-algebras $A=C^*(G_N)$ where $G_N$ is the motion group $\R^N\rtimes SO(N)$. Utilising the rich topological structure of the unitary dual $\widehat{G_N}$, it is shown that, for $N\geq3$, $$K(M(C^*(G_N)))= \frac{1}{2}\left\lceil \frac{N}{2}\right\rceil.$$
