The antisymmetrized quasi-cluster model (AQCM) is a method to describe a transition from the alpha-cluster wave function to the jj-coupling shell model wave function. In this model, the cluster-shell transition is characterized by only two parameters; R representing the distance between alpha clusters and Lambda describing the breaking of alpha clusters, and the contribution of the spin-orbit interaction, very important in the jj-coupling shell model, can be taken into account starting with the alpha cluster model wave function. In this article we show the generality of AQCM by extending the application to heavier region; various 4N nuclei from 4He to 52Fe. We show and compare the energy curves for the alpha+40Ca cluster configuration calculated with and without alpha breaking effect in 44Ti.
In this contribution, I discuss an algebraic treatment of alpha-cluster nuclei based on the introduction of a spectrum generating algebra for the relative motion of the alpha-clusters. Particular attention is paid to the discrete symmetry of the geometric arrangement of the alpha-particles, and the consequences for the structure of the rotational bands in the 12C and 16O nuclei.
The formation of alpha-clusters in nuclei close to the decay thresholds is discussed. These states can be considered to be boson-condensates, which are formed in a second order phase transition in a mixture of nucleons and alpha-particles. The de Broglie wavelength of the alpha-particles is larger than the nuclear diameter, therefore the coherent properties of the alpha-particles give particular effects for the study of such states. The states are above the thresholds thus the enhanced emission of multiple-alphas into the same direction is observed. The probability for the emission of multiple…
Shell gaps and pn pairing interaction in N = Z nuclei
我们分析了观察到的壳层间隙N=Z核确定的结合能差。结果表明,壳层能隙可以用单粒子能级间距、类核子配对和质子-中子配对相互作用的综合贡献来描述。这一结论与Chasman在Phys. Rev. Lett. 99(2007)082501。
The alpha-decay half-lives of recently synthesized superheavy nuclei (SHN) are investigated based on a unified fission model (UFM) where a new method to calculate the assault frequency of alpha-emission is used. The excellent agreement with the experimental data indicates the UFM is a useful tool to investigate these alpha-decays. It is found that the half-lives become more and more insensitive to the Q_alpha values as the atomic number increases on the whole, which is favorable for us to predict the half-lives of SHN. In addition, a formula is suggested to compute the Q_alpha values for the n…
The nucleon separation energies and shell gaps in nuclei over the whole nuclear chart are systematically studied with eight global nuclear mass models. For unmeasured neutron-rich and super-heavy regions, the uncertainty of the predictions from these different mass models is still large. The latest version (WS4) of the Weizsäcker-Skyrme mass formula, in which the isospin dependence of model parameters is introduced into the macroscopic-microscopic approach inspired by the Skyrme energy-density functional, is found to be the most accurate one in the descriptions of nuclear masses, separation en…
A set of global optical potential parameters, DA1p, for deuterons with the $1p$-shell nuclei is obtained by simultaneously fitting 67 sets of experimental data of deuteron elastic scattering from \nuc{6}{Li}, \nuc{9}{Be}, \nuc{10}{B}, \nuc{11}{B}, \nuc{12}{C}, \nuc{13}{C}, \nuc{14}{N}, \nuc{16}{O} and \nuc{18}{O} with incident energies between 5.25 and 170 MeV. DA1p improves the description of the deuteron elastic scattering from the $1p$-shell nuclei with respect to the existing systematic deuteron potentials and can give satisfactory reproduction to the experimental data with radiative nucle…
What is the origin of nuclear clustering and how does it emerge from the nuclear interaction? While there is ample experimental evidence for this phenomenon, its theoretical characterization directly from nucleons as degrees of freedom remains a challenge, making it difficult to improve nuclear forces using clustering observables. In this work, a simple ratio of energies based on effective scale arguments is proposed to assess the quality of nuclear forces on alpha clustering (${ {}^{4}\text{He} }$) in bound and narrow ground-state nuclei. The proposed clustering ratio is parameter-free and co…
We extend the ab initio coupled-cluster effective interaction (CCEI) method to deformed open-shell nuclei with protons and neutrons in the valence space, and compute binding energies and excited states of isotopes of neon and magnesium. We employ a nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon interaction from chiral effective field theory evolved to a lower cutoff via a similarity renormalization group transformation. We find good agreement with experiment for binding energies and spectra, while charge radii of neon isotopes are underestimated. For the deformed nuclei $^{20}$Ne and $^{24}$Mg we reproduce…
From the experimental data on odd-even staggering of masses, we have shown that variation of pairing as a function of neutron number plays an important role in many distinctive features like occurrence of new shell closures, shell erosion, anomalous reduction of the energy of the first 2+ state and slower increase in the B(E2, 2_{+}^{1} \rightarrow 0_{+}^{1}) in the neutron-rich even-even nuclei in different mass regions. New predictions have been made in a model independent way. Results of theoretical calculations support the phenomenological findings.
A systematic shell model description of the experimental Gamow-Teller transition strength distributions in $^{42}$Ti, $^{46}$Cr, $^{50}$Fe and $^{54}$Ni is presented. These transitions have been recently measured via $β$ decay of these $T_z$=-1 nuclei, produced in fragmentation reactions at GSI and also with ($^3${He},$t$) charge-exchange (CE) reactions corresponding to $T_z = + 1$ to $T_z = 0$ carried out at RCNP-Osaka.The calculations are performed in the $pf$ model space, using the GXPF1a and KB3G effective interactions. Qualitative agreement is obtained for the individual transitions, whil…
Stability of 248-254^Cf nuclei against alpha and cluster emission is studied within our Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPM). It is found that these nuclei are stable against light clusters (except alpha particle) and instable against heavy cluster emissions. For heavy cluster emissions the daughter nuclei lead to doubly magic 208^Pb or neighbouring one. The effect of quadrapole and hexadecapole deformations of parent nuclei, daughter nuclei and emitted cluster on half lives are also studied. The computed alpha decay half life values (with including quadrupole deformation β2) are in cl…

We have been testing the theory used to calculate internal-conversion coefficients (ICCs) by making a series of measurements of alpha_K values with precision better than +/-2%. So far we have measured E3 transitions in three nuclei, 103Rh, 111Cd and 134Cs; and M4 transitions in six nuclei, 119Sn, 125Te, 127Te, 137Ba, 193Ir and 197Pt. Together, these span a wide range of A and Z values. In all cases, the results strongly favor Dirac-Fock calculations in which the final-state electron wave function has been computed in an atomic field that includes the vacancy created by the internal-conversion …
The atomic nucleus is a quantum many-body system whose constituent nucleons (protons and neutrons) are subject to complex nucleon-nucleon interactions that include spin- and isospin-dependent components. For stable nuclei, already several decades ago, emerging seemingly regular patterns in some observables could be described successfully within a shell-model picture that results in particularly stable nuclei at certain magic fillings of the shells with protons and/or neutrons: N,Z = 8, 20, 28, 50, 82, 126. However, in short-lived, so-called exotic nuclei or rare isotopes, characterized by a la…
In $^{16}$O, we investigate the relation between the $E0$ monopole transition matrix elements and cluster-shell competition using antisymmetrized quasi cluster model (AQCM), where the dissolution of $alpha$ clusters into quasi clusters due to the effect of the spin-orbit force is introduced. We focus on the structure change when the strength of the spin-orbit force is varied. The ground state dominantly has a compact four $alpha$ structure (doubly magic structure of the $p$ shell), which is rather independent of the strength. However the first excited state ($0_2^+$) has $^{12}$C$+alpha$ clust…
Alpha elastic scattering of p-nuclei were studied for calculating optical potentials. Choice of the $α$-optical potentials are important to measure the reaction rates of p-process. $^{106}$Cd$(α,α)^{106}$Cd and $^{113}$In$(α,α)^{113}$In elastic scattering cross-section data were used to determine the potential parameter sets at E$_{lab}$= 16.1-27 MeV for $^{106}$Cd and E$_{lab}$=16.14, 19.4 MeV for $^{113}$In system. A Wood-Saxon potential form factor is used for both real and imaginary part. The potential parameters extracted in the present study exhibit a satisfactory result with respect to …
Starting from experimental studies on alpha-clustering in excited self-conjugate nuclei (from $^{16}$O to $^{28}$Si), temperature and density conditions for such a clustering are determined. Measured temperatures have been found in the range of 5.5 - 6.0 MeV whereas density values of 0.3 - 0.4 times the saturation density are deduced, i.e., 0.046 to 0.062 $fm^{-3}$. Such a density domain is also predicted by constrained self-consistent mean field calculations. These results constitute a benchmark for alpha clustering from self-conjugate nuclei in relation to descriptions of stellar evolution a…
We evaluate the allowed $β^-$-decay properties of nuclei with $Z = 8 - 15$ systematically under the framework of the nuclear shell model with the use of the valence space Hamiltonians derived from modern $ab~intio$ methods, such as in-medium similarity renormalization group and coupled-cluster theory. For comparison we also show results obtained with fitted interaction derived from the chiral effective field theory and phenomenological USDB interaction. We have performed calculations for O $\rightarrow$ F, F $\rightarrow$ Ne, Ne $\rightarrow$ Na, Na $\rightarrow$ Mg, Mg $\rightarrow$ Al, Al $\…
We study the shell and alpha cluster structures in the ground and excited states of 8Be in terms of the tensor-optimized shell model (TOSM). In TOSM, the tensor correlation is optimized in the full space of 2p2h configurations involving high-momentum components. The short-range correlation is treated with the unitary correlation operator method (UCOM). We use the effective interaction based on the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction AV8$^\prime$. The 8Be states consist of two groups of ground band states and highly excited states with the isospin T=0 and T=1. It is found that the tensor contribut…
Nuclei in the upper-$sd$ shell usually exhibit characteristics of spherical single particle excitations. In the recent years, employment of sophisticated techniques of gamma spectroscopy has led to observation of high spin states of several nuclei near A$\simeq$ 40. In a few of them multiparticle, multihole rotational states coexist with states of single particle nature. We have studied a few nuclei in this mass region experimentally, using various campaigns of the Indian National Gamma Array setup. We have compared and combined our empirical observations with the large-scale shell model resul…
We have constructed new proximity function particularly for interaction between two superheavy nuclei based on the experimental alpha decay half-lives. The new proximity function is used to produce the alpha decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei whose experimental values are known. The new proximity function produces the alpha decay half-lives close to the experiments. Hence we can conclude that the new proximity function can be used to study the interaction between two superheavy nuclei.
The relation of the shell, collective and cluster models of the atomic nuclei is discussed from the viewpoint of symmetries. In the fifties the U(3) symmetry was found as their common part for a single shell problem. For multi major-shell excitations, considered here, the U(3)$\otimes$U(3) dynamical symmetry turns out to be their intersection.
Spontaneous fission and alpha decay are the main decay modes for superheavy nuclei. The superheavy nuclei which have small alpha decay half-life compared to spontaneous fission half-life will survive fission and can be detected in the laboratory through alpha decay. We have studied the alpha decay half-life and spontaneous half-life of some superheavy elements in the atomic range Z = 100-130. Spontaneous fission half-lives of superheavy nuclei have been calculated using the phenomenological formula and the alpha decay half-lives using Viola-Seaborg-Sobiczewski formula (Sobiczewski et al. 1989)…
The competition between alpha- and beta+/EC-decay modes is studied systematically in nuclei along the alpha-decay chains following the synthesis of superheavy nuclei with Z = 119 and Z = 120. A microscopic approach based on deformed self-consistent Hartree-Fock mean-field calculations with Skyrme forces and pairing correlations is used to describe the beta+ and electron capture weak decays, whereas the alpha-decay is estimated from existing phenomenological expressions. It is shown that alpha-decay is in most cases the dominant decay mode, but interesting instances are identified where the hal…
Recently synthesis of superheavy nuclei has been achieved in hot fusion reactions. A systematic theoretical calculation of alpha decay half-lives in this region of the periodic system, may be useful in the identification of new nuclei in these type of reactions. Alpha decay half-lives are obtained in the framework of the barrier penetration theory, built with the use of proximity and Coulomb forces. It is estimated from a classical viewpoint, a possible angular momentum maximum value for odd and odd-odd nuclei alpha particles. The masses of the nuclei are obtained from a macro-microscopic mode…
The microscopic structure of neutron-rich sd-shell nuclei is investigated by using the spherical shell-model in the sd-pf valence space with the extended pairing plus quadrupole-quadrupole forces accompanied by the monopole interaction (EPQQM). The calculation reproduces systematically the known energy levels for even-even and odd-mass nuclei including the recent data for 43S, 46S and 47Ar. In particular, the erosion of the N=28 shell closure in 42Si can be explained. Our EPQQM results are compared with other shell-model calculations with the SDPF-NR and SDPF-U effective interactions.
The nuclear equation of state is explored with the constrained HFB approach for self conjugate nuclei. It is found that beyond a certain low, more or less universal density, those nuclei spontaneously cluster into A/4 alpha particles with A the nucleon number. The energy at the threshold density increases linearly with the number of alpha particles as does the experimental threshold energy. Taking off the spurious c.o.m. energy of each alpha particle almost gives agreement between theory and experiment. The implications of these results with respect to alpha clustering and the nuclear EOS at l…
We propose a novel mechanism to explain nuclear decay by emission of an alpha particle. We show that the famous Geiger-Nuttall law can be explained by post-forming an alpha particle outside the range of the nuclear interaction with the daughter nucleus. This contrasts with the commonly accepted mechanism of first alpha particle pre-formation followed by emission through barrier penetration. We predict that the post-formation mechanism is more likely to occur for alpha-particles with higher energy.
The first even-even nucleus for which there are J=1+ T=0 states in a single j shell configuration is 48Cr. In this limited model space all T=0 to T=0 M1 matrix elements vanish.
By using a phenomenologically successful Woods-Saxon potential, I study the shape and shell structure of (A) neutron drip line nuclei with 10 \leq N \leq 60, (B) neutron-rich nuclei related to the r- process with 40 \leq N \leq 90, and (C) one-particle spectra in the potential provided by the nucleus 70Fe as a representative of so-called N=40 "island of inversion (IoI)" nuclei. First, the shell structure that is unique in very weakly-bound neutrons is systematically studied, and the approximate neutron number of odd-N nuclei at which spherical (or deformed) halos can be found is pinned down. S…
We introduce an algorithm to obtain coefficients of fractional parentage for light $p$-shell nuclei. The coefficients enable to use Jacobi coordinates in no-core shell model calculations separating off the center-of-mass motion. Fully antisymmetrized basis states are given together with recoupling coefficients that allow one to apply two- and three-nucleon operators. As an example, we study the dependence on the harmonic oscillator frequency of $^3$H, $^4$He, $^6$He, $^6$Li and $^7$Li and extract their binding and excitation energies. The coefficients will be made openly accessible as HDF5 dat…
In this work we present $ab~initio$ shell-model calculations for electric quadrupole moments and magnetic dipole moments of $sd$ shell nuclei using valence-space Hamiltonians derived with two $ab~initio$ approaches: the in-medium similarity renormalization group (IM-SRG) and the coupled-cluster effective interaction (CCEI). Results are in a reasonable agreement with the available experimental data as well as with the results from the phenomenological USDB effective interaction. This work will add more information to the available $ab~initio$ results for the spectroscopy of $sd$ shell nuclei.

We discuss the role of the broken symmetries in the connection of the shell, collective and cluster models. The cluster-shell competition is described in terms of cold quantum phases. Stable quasi-dynamical U(3) symmetry is found for specific large deformations for a Nilsson-type Hamiltonian.
