The phase space analysis of cosmological parameters $Ω_ϕ$ and $γ_ϕ$ is given. Based on this, the well-known quintessence cosmology is studied with an exponential potential $V(ϕ)=V_{0}\exp(-λϕ)$. Given observational data, the current state of universe could be pinpointed in the phase diagrams, thus making the diagrams more informative. The scaling solution of quintessence usually is not supposed to give the cosmic accelerating expansion, but we prove it could educe the transient acceleration. We also find that the differential equations of system used widely in study of scalar field are incomplete, and then a numerical method is used to figure out the range of application.
The concordance model of cosmology contains several unknown components such as dark matter and dark energy. Many proposals have been made to describe them by choosing an appropriate potential for a scalar field. We study four models in the realm of loop quantum cosmology (LQC): the Chaplygin gas, an inflationary and radiation-like potential, quintessence and an anti-Chaplygin gas. For the latter we show that all trajectories start and end with a type II singularity and, depending on the inital value, may go through a bounce. On the other hand the evolution under the influence of the first thre…
We employ the metric of Schwarzschild space surrounded by quintessential matter to study the trajectories of test masses on the motion of a binary system. The results, which are obtained through the gradually approximate approach, can be used to search for dark energy via the difference of the azimuth angle of the pericenter. The classification of the motion is discussed.
The Noether Symmetry Approach is applied to interacting quintessence cosmology with the aim to search for exact solutions and select scalar-field self-interaction potentials. It turns out that the solutions found are compatible with the accelerated expansion of the Universe and with observational dataset, as the SNeIa Pantheon data.
We investigate the observational effects of a quintessence model in an anisotropic spacetime. The anisotropic metric is a non-rotating particular case of a generalized Godel's metric and is classified as Bianchi III. This metric is an exact solution of the Einstein-Klein-Gordon field equations with an anisotropic scalar field, which is responsible for the anisotropy of the spacetime geometry. We test the model against observations of type Ia supernovae, analyzing the SDSS dataset calibrated with the MLCS2k2 fitter, and the results are compared to standard quintessence models with Ratra-Peebles…
In this paper, we study quintessence cosmology with an effective $Λ$-term in Lyra manifold. We consider three different models by choosing variable $Λ$ depend on time, the Hubble parameter and the energy density of dark matter and dark energy. Dark energy assumed as quintessence which interacts with the dark matter. By using numerical analysis we investigate behavior of cosmological parameters in three different models and compare our results with observational data. Statefinder diagnostic is also performed for all models.
The Einstein-Klein-Gordon field equations are solved in a inhomogeneous shear-free universe containing a material fluid, a self-interacting scalar field, a variable cosmological term, and a heat flux. A quintessence-dominated scenario arises with a power-law accelerated expansion compatible with the currently observed homogeneous universe.
In the framework of phantom quintessence cosmology, we use the Noether Symmetry Approach to obtain general exact solutions for the cosmological equations. This result is achieved by the quintessential (phantom) potential determined by the existence of the symmetry itself. A comparison between the theoretical model and observations is worked out. In particular, we use type Ia supernovae and large scale structure parameters determined from the 2-degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS)and from the Wide part of the VIMOS-VLT Deep Survey (VVDS). It turns out that the model is compatible with t…
The coupled quintessence model with disformal couplings is treated here to mimic the $Λ$CDM background. Using this approach, the quintessence potential does not have to be specified. The model considers a generic fluid coupled to the quintessence, which is specified to be either dark matter or a relativistic fluid. The background consists of a cosmological constant and another uncoupled generic fluid, to cater for three studied scenarios. The cosmological dynamics is investigated for the coupled quintessence model, whose disformal couplings depend on the equation of state of both generic fluid…
We investigate cosmological scenarios with a non-minimal derivative coupling between the scalar field and the curvature, examining both the quintessence and the phantom cases in zero and constant potentials. In general, we find that the universe transits from one de Sitter solution to another, determined by the coupling parameter. Furthermore, according to the parameter choices and without the need for matter, we can obtain a Big Bang, an expanding universe with no beginning, a cosmological turnaround, an eternally contracting universe, a Big Crunch, a Big Rip avoidance and a cosmological boun…
We show that the combination of a fluid with a bulk dissipative pressure and quintessence matter can simultaneously drive an accelerated expansion phase and solve the coincidence problem of our current Universe. We then study some scenarios compatible with the observed cosmic acceleration.
In this paper, by considering the complex form of the quintessence model, we study two different dynamic structures of holographic dark energy as Tsallis and Kaniadakis in the framework Brans-Dicke cosmology. In each setup, we employ non-interacting and interacting cases and calculate some cosmological parameters such as the equation of state $ω$. We also discuss the $ ω- ω'$ behavior. By modifying the potential and studying the scalar field dynamics, we examine the complex quintessence cosmology. In addition, considering the two parts of the quintessence field effects, i.e., real and complex,…
We investigate the simplest quintessence dissipative dark matter attractor cosmology characterized by a constant quintessence baryotropic index and a power--law expansion. We show a class of accelerated coincidence--solving attractor solutions converging to this asymptotic behavior. Despite its simplicity, such a ``superattractor'' regime provides a model of the recent universe that also exhibits an excellent fit to supernovae luminosity observations and no age conflict. Our best fit gives $α=1.71\pm 0.29$ for the power-law exponent. We calculate for this regime the evolution of density and en…
Tachyonic scalar field-driven late universe with dust matter content is considered. The cosmic expansion is modeled with power-law and phantom power-law expansion at late time, i.e. $z \lesssim 0.45$. WMAP7 and its combined data are used to constraint the model. The forms of potential and the field solution are different for quintessence and tachyonic cases. Power-law cosmology model (driven by either quintessence or tachyonic field) predicts unmatched equation of state parameter to the observational value, hence the power-law model is excluded for both quintessence and tachyonic field. In the…
With the tracking condition, the stability of quintessence solutions are examined. It is found that there is only one physically relevant fixed point for the system generically. Two specific examples of quintessence potentials are worked out in the frame work.
We study the possibility of explaining the late time acceleration with an axion field which is coupled with the dark matter sector of the energy budget of the Universe. The axion field arises from the Ramond-Ramond sector of the Type-IIB string theory. We study the background evolution of the Universe as well as the growth of the matter perturbation in the linear regime. We subsequently use the observational data from Sn-Ia, BAO measurements, measurements of the Hubble parameter as well as the observational data for the growth of the matter perturbation to constrain our model. Our results show…
We study the cosmology of quintessence models in an extended theory of gravity in Lyra's geometry. By analyzing the possible interactions between the quintessence scalar and the intrinsic displacement field in Lyra's geometry, we obtain the closed form solutions of the modified Friedmann equations for four classes of quintessence models. Though the presence of the geometrical displacement field promises the possibility for the effective equation of state $ω$ of the quintessence-displacement mixture crossing the cosmological constant boundary, the reliable quintessence scenarios in Lyra's geome…
Recent cosmological observations reveal that we are living in a flat accelerated expanding universe. In this work we have investigated the nature of the potential compatible with the power law expansion of the universe in a self interacting Brans Dicke cosmology with a perfect fluid background and have analyzed whether this potential supports the accelerated expansion. It is found that positive power law potential is relevant in this scenario and can drive accelerated expansion for negative Brans Dicke coupling parameter $ω$. The evolution of the density perturbation is also analyzed in this s…
We perform for the first time a dynamical system analysis of both the background and perturbation equations, of $Λ$CDM cosmology and quintessence scenario with an exponential potential. In the former case the perturbations do not change the stability of the late-time attractor of the background equations, and the system still results in the dark-energy dominated, de Sitter solution, having passed from the correct dark-matter era with $γ\approx6/11$. However, in the case of quintessence the incorporation of perturbations changes the stability and properties of the background evolution, and the …
This investigation explores using the beta function formalism to calculate analytic solutions for the observable parameters in rolling scalar field cosmologies. The beta function in this case is the derivative of the scalar $ϕ$ with respect to the natural log of the scale factor $a$, $β(ϕ)=\frac{d ϕ}{d \ln(a)}$. Once the beta function is specified, modulo a boundary condition, the evolution of the scalar $ϕ$ as a function of the scale factor is completely determined. A rolling scalar field cosmology is defined by its action which can contain a range of physically motivated dark energy potentia…
A component of dark energy has been recently proposed to explain the current acceleration of the Universe. Unless some unknown symmetry in Nature prevents or suppresses it, such a field may interact with the pressureless component of dark matter, giving rise to the so-called models of coupled quintessence. In this paper we propose a new cosmological scenario where radiation and baryons are conserved, while the dark energy component is decaying into cold dark matter (CDM). The dilution of CDM particles, attenuated with respect to the usual $a^{-3}$ scaling due to the interacting process, is cha…
We investigate a bounce inflation model with a graceful exit into the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) decelerated Universe within $f(T)$ gravity framework, where $T$ is the torsion scalar in the teleparallelism. We study the cosmic thermal evolution, the model predicts a supercold Universe during the precontraction phase, which is consistent with the requirements of the slow-roll models, while it performs a reheating period by the end of the contraction with a maximum temperature just below the grand unified theory (GUT) temperature. However, it matches the radiation temperature of the hot bi…
The alternative scalar field dark sector of the Universe: Cosmological inflation, quintessence and ekpyrotic model in the framework of scalar-tensor cosmology
Inflationary cosmology is developed in the second Randall-Sundrum braneworld scenario, where the accelerated expansion arises through potentials that are too steep to drive inflation in conventional cosmology. A relationship between the scalar and tensor perturbation spectra is derived that is independent of both the inflaton potential and the brane tension. It is found that a single field with an inverse power law potential can act as both the inflaton and the quintessence field for suitable values of the brane tension.
A Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology with dark energy can be modelled using a quintessence field. That system is equivalent to a relativistic particle moving on a two-dimensional conformal spacetime. When the quintessence behaves as a free massless scalar field in a Universe with cosmological constant, the quantized version of that theory can lead to a Supersymmetric Majorana quantum cosmology. The purpose of this work is to show that such quantum cosmological model correspond to the Maxwell equations for electromagnetic waves propagating in a medium with specific values for its relative per…
We analyze the coupled quintessence in the light of the linear dynamical systems theory, with two different interactions: i) proportional to the energy density of the dark energy and ii) proportional to the sum of the energy densities of the dark matter and dark energy. The results presented here enlarge the previous analyses in the literature, wherein the interaction has been only proportional to the energy density of the dark matter. In the first case it is possible to get the well-known sequence of cosmological eras. For the second interaction only the radiation and the dark energy era can …
Although quintessence cosmologies seem to explain the amount of cosmological constant today, the required conditions are severe. For example, an extremely slowly varying and light scalar field that rolls toward the vanishing vacuum energy state is needed, which must satisfy the required initial conditions so that the energy density in matter is comparable to the energy density stored in quintessence today. Our first question is whether it is possible to explain why quintessence ``knows'' that the Universe is going toward the vanishing energy state. We show from a new perspective that the conve…
The present work deals with a dynamical systems study of quintessence potentials leading to the present accelerated expansion of the universe. The principal interest is to check for late time attractors which give an accelerated expansion for the universe. Two examples are worked out, namely the exponential and the power-law potentials.
We present a new parameterization of quintessence potentials for dark energy based directly upon the dynamical properties of the equations of motion. Such parameterization arises naturally once the equations of motion are written as a dynamical system in terms of properly defined polar variables. We have identified two different classes of parameters, and we dubbed them as dynamical and passive parameters. The dynamical parameters appear explicitly in the equations of motion, but the passive parameters play just a secondary role in their solutions. The new approach is applied to the so-called …
The dynamics of interacting dark energy model in loop quantum cosmology (LQC) is studied in this paper. The dark energy has a constant equation of state $w_x$ and interacts with dark matter through a form $3cH(ρ_x+ρ_m)$. We find for quintessence model ($w_x>-1$) the cosmological evolution in LQC is the same as that in classical Einstein cosmology; whereas for phantom dark energy ($w_x<-1$), although there are the same critical points in LQC and classical Einstein cosmology, loop quantum effect reduces significantly the parameter spacetime ($c, w_x$) required by stability. If parameters $c$ and…
From the field equations corresponding to a 4-dimensional brane embedded in the 5-dimensional spacetime of the Einstein-Chern-Simons theory for gravity, we find cosmological solutions that describe an accelerated expansion for a flat universe. Apart from a quintessence-type evolution scheme, we obtain a transient phantom evolution, which is not ruled out by the current observational data. Additionally, a bouncing solution is shown. The introduction of a kinetic term in the action shows a de Sitter behavior although the energy density is not constant. A quintessence behavior is also found. We c…
We investigate the cosmology of mini Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) produced by large density perturbations. The mini PBHs evaporate promptly in the early universe and we assume that a stable remnant is left behind. The PBHs remnants can constitute the entire dark matter of the universe for a wide range of remnant masses. We build inflationary models, in the framework of $α$-attractors utilizing exponential functions, in which the PBHs are produced during matter, radiation and kination domination eras. The advantage of these inflationary models is that the spectral index takes values favorable …
Using cosmic voids to probe the growth rate of cosmic structure, and hence the nature of dark energy, is particularly interesting in the context of modified gravity theories that rely on the screening mechanism. In this work we improve the modelling of redshift-space distortions around voids in the dark matter density field, and thus reduce systematic errors in the derivation of cosmological parameters. We also show how specific types of voids can be used to better probe the growth rate, using a flexible void finder. We apply our results to test for a quintessence type of dark energy vs. a LCD…
By analysing the cosmological dynamical system with a dark-sector interaction which changes sign during the cosmological evolution, we find a scaling attractor to help to alleviate the cosmic-coincidence problem. This result shows that this interaction can bring new features to the cosmology.
We present the dynamical analysis for interacting quintessence, considering linear cosmological perturbations. Matter perturbations improve the background analysis and viable critical points describing the transition of the three cosmological eras are found. The stability of those fixed points are similar to previous studies in the literature, for both coupled and uncoupled cases, leading to a late-time attractor.
In the present work, motivated by the work of Cai and Su [Phys. Rev. D {\bf 81}, 103514 (2010)], we propose a new type of interaction in dark sector, which can change its sign when our universe changes from deceleration to acceleration. We consider the cosmological evolution of quintessence and phantom with this type of interaction, and find that there are some scaling attractors which can help to alleviate the cosmological coincidence problem. Our results also show that this new type of interaction can bring new features to cosmology.
We derive constraints on a coupled quintessence model with pure momentum exchange from the public $\sim$1000 deg$^2$ cosmic shear measurements from the Kilo-Degree Survey and the $\it{Planck}$ 2018 Cosmic Microwave Background data. We compare this model with $Λ$CDM and find similar $χ^2$ and log-evidence values. We accelerate parameter estimation by sourcing cosmological power spectra from the neural network emulator COSMOPOWER. We highlight the necessity of such emulator-based approaches to reduce the computational runtime of future similar analyses, particularly from Stage IV surveys. As an …
We study the cosmological perturbations in teleparallel dark energy models in which there is a dynamical scalar field with a non-minimal coupling to gravity. We find that the propagating degrees of freedom are the same as in quintessence cosmology despite that variables of the perturbed vierbein field are greater than those in metric theories. We numerically show some evident discrepancy from general relativity in the evolutions of the perturbations on all scales of the universe. We also demonstrate that the gravitational interactions are enhanced during the unique tracker evolutions in these …
One possible description for the current accelerated expansion of the universe is quintessence dynamics. The basic idea of quintessence consists of analyzing cosmological scenarios driven by scalar fields. In this work we present some interesting features on the cosmological scenario obtained from the solutions of an effective two scalar field model in a flat space-time. This effective model was constructed by coupling two single scalar field systems in a nontrivial way via an extension method. The solutions related to the fields allowed us to compute analytical cosmological parameters. The be…
We investigate the impact of general conditions of theoretical stability and cosmological viability on dynamical dark energy models. As a powerful example, we study whether minimally coupled, single field Quintessence models that are safe from ghost instabilities, can source the CPL expansion history recently shown to be mildly favored by a combination of CMB (Planck) and Weak Lensing (KiDS) data. We find that in their most conservative form, the theoretical conditions impact the analysis in such a way that smooth single field Quintessence becomes significantly disfavored with respect to the s…
Based on the work of ratio gravity developed in 2018, which postulates the deformation of the cross ratio to associate with the physical model of gravity, we develop a mechanism to generate dynamical dark energy - a quintessence field coupled with gravity. Such model causes the dark energy behaving differently in early and late time universe. In the radiation-dominated-era and matter-dominated-era, the related analytical solutions of the quintessence field have an interesting property - starting as a constant field, then oscillating as the universe expands. By Markov Chain Monte Carlo search o…
We propose a new quintessence scenario in the brane cosmology, assuming that a quintessence field $Q$ is confined in our 3-dimensional brane world. With a potential $V(Q)= μ^{α+4} Q^{-α}~(α\geq 2)$, we find that the density parameter of the scalar field decreases as $Ω_Q \sim a^{-4(α-2)/(α+2)}$ in the epoch of quadratic energy density dominance, if $α\leq 6$. This attractor solution is followed by the usual tracking quintessence scenario after a conventional Friedmann universe is recovered. With an equipartition of initial energy density, we find a natural and successful quintessence model for…
In this work we focus on the phase space singularities of interactive quintessence model in the presence of matter fluid. This model is related to swampland studies, that the outcomes affect all these Swampland related models with the same dynamical system. We shall form the dynamical system corresponding to the cosmological system, which is eventually autonomous, and by using the dominant balances technique we shall investigate the occurrence or not of finite-time singularities. Our results indicate that the dynamical system of the model may develop finite-time singularities, but these are no…
Recent observations suggest that the accelerated expansion of the Universe at late times is caused by a temporally changing dark energy component, rather than the constant one in the standard $Λ$CDM scenario. In this context quintessence, i.e. a canonical scalar field minimally coupled to gravity, plays a prominent role. There are, however, three main types of quintessence models: thawing quintessence, scaling freezing quintessence, and tracking quintessence. Dynamical systems reformulations of the field equations for a broad set of scalar field potentials, including some new ones, allow us to…
We present a new approach to build models of quintessence interacting with dark or baryonic matter. We use a variational approach for relativistic fluids to realize an effective description of matter fields at the Lagrangian level. The coupling is introduced directly in the action by considering a single function mixing the dynamical degrees of freedom of the theory. The resulting gravitational field equations are derived by variations with respect to the independent variables. New interesting phenomenology can be obtained at both small scales, where new screening mechanisms for scalar fields …
Phase-plane stability analysis of a dynamical system describing the Universe as a two-fraction fluid containing baryonic dust and real virial gas quintessence is presented. Existence of a stable periodic solution experiencing inflationary periods is shown. A van der Waals quintessence model is revisited and cyclic Universe solution again found.
The Einstein equations for an isotropic and homogeneous Friedmann--Robertson--Walker Universe in the presence of a quintessence scalar field are shown to be described in a unified way, formally identical to the dynamics of a relativistic particle moving on a two--dimensional spacetime. The correct Lagrangian for the system is presented and used to construct a spinor quantum cosmology theory using Breit's prescription. The theory is supersymmetric when written in Majorana representation. The spinor components interact through a potential that unifies spacetime curvature and quintessence. An exa…
Dark energy models can be seen as dynamical systems. In this paper we show that multi-field models with a curved field space give rise to new critical points and we analyse their stability. These are new accelerating solutions in late-time cosmology which exist even for steep potentials. This opens up the possibility to realise quintessence models even when quantum corrections spoil the flatness of the underlying potential. These non-linear sigma models arise naturally in supergravity and string models where their multi-field dynamics can help to avoid swampland bounds.
We derive generic equations for a vector field driving the evolution of flat homogeneous isotropic universe and give a comparison with a scalar filed dynamics in the cosmology. Two exact solutions are shown as examples, which can serve to describe an inflation and a slow falling down of dynamical ``cosmological constant'' like it is given by the scalar quintessence. An attractive feature of vector field description is a generation of ``induced mass'' proportional to a Hubble constant, which results in a dynamical suppression of actual cosmological constant during the evolution.
The dynamics of expansion of the Universe and evolution of scalar perturbations are studied for the quintessential scalar fields $Q$ with the classical Lagrangian satisfying the additional condition $w=const$ or $c^2_a=0$. Both quintessential fields are studied for the same cosmological model. The systems of evolutionary equations for gauge-invariant perturbations of metrics, matter and quintessence have been analysed analyticaly for the early stage of the Universe life and numerically up to the present epoch. It is shown that amplitudes of the adiabatic matter density perturbations grow like …
We consider an original variational approach for building new models of quintessence interacting with dark or baryonic matter. The coupling is introduced at the Lagrangian level using a variational formulation for relativistic fluids, where the interacting term generally depends on both the dynamical degrees of freedom of the theory and their spacetime derivatives. After deriving the field equations from the action, we consider applications in the context of cosmology. Two simple models are studied using dynamical system techniques showing the interesting phenomenology arising in this framewor…
We use dynamical systems methods to study quintessence models in a spatially flat and isotropic spacetime with matter and a scalar field with potentials for which $λ(φ)=-V_{,φ}/V$ is bounded, thereby going beyond the exponential potential for which $λ(φ)$ is constant. The scalar field equation of state parameter $w_φ$ plays a central role when comparing quintessence models with observations, but with the dynamical systems used to date $w_φ$ is an indeterminate, discontinuous, function on the state space in the asymptotically matter dominated regime. Our first main result is the introduction of…
Dynamical system analysis of a universe model which contains matter, radiation, and quintessence with exponential potential, $V \!(ϕ)=V_{\!o} \, exp(-ακϕ) \,$, is studied in the light of recent observations and the tensions between different datasets. The three-dimensional phase space is constructed by the energy density parameters and all the critical points of the model with their physical meanings are investigated. This approach provides an easy way of comparing the model directly with the observations. We consider a solution that is compatible with observations and is continuous in the pha…
We discuss the implication of the introduction of an extra field to the dynamics of a scalar field conformally coupled to gravitation in a homogeneous isotropic spatially flat universe. We show that for some reasonable parameter values the dynamical effects are similar to those of our previous model with a single scalar field. Nevertheless for other parameter values new dynamical effects are obtained.
We study flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) models with a perfect fluid matter source and a scalar field non minimally coupled to matter having a double exponential potential. It is shown that the scalar field almost always diverges to infinity. Under conditions on the parameter space, we show that the model is able to give an acceptable cosmological history of our universe, that is, a transient matter era followed by an accelerating future attractor. It is found that only a very weak coupling can lead to viable cosmology. We study in the Einstein frame, the cosmological viability of the as…
