We consider the focusing $\dot H^{s_c}$-critical biharmonic Schrödinger equation, and prove a global wellposedness and scattering result for the radial data $u_0\in H^2(\mathbb R^N)$ satisfying $ M(u_0)^{\frac{2-s_c}{s_c}}E(u_0)<M(Q)^{\frac{2-s_c}{s_c}}E(Q) $ and $ \|u_{0}\|^{\frac{2-s_c}{s_c}}_{2}\|Δu_{0}\|_{2}<\|Q\|^{\frac{2-s_c}{s_c}}_{2}\|ΔQ\|_{2}, $ where $s_c\in(0,2)$ and $Q$ is the ground state of $Δ^2Q+(2-s_c)Q-|Q|^{p-1}Q=0$.
We consider the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$ i u_t +Δ^2 u+λ|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0, $$ where $λ=\pm 1$ and $α$, $b>0$. In the subctritical case, we improve the global well-posedness result obtained in \cite{GUZPAS} for dimensions $N=5,6,7$ in the Sobolev space $H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$. The fundamental tools to establish our results are the standard Strichartz estimates related to the linear problem and the Hardy-Littlewood inequality. Results concerning the energy-critical case, that is, $α=\frac{8-2b}{N-4}$ are also reported. More precisely, we show well-posedness and a st…
In this paper, we consider a biharmonic equation under the Navier boundary condition and with a nearly critical exponent $(P_ε): Δ^2u=u^{9-ε}, u>0$ in $Ω$ and $u=Δu=0$ on $\partialΩ$, where $Ω$ is a smooth bounded domain in $\R^5$ and $ε>0$. We study the asymptotic behavior of solutions of $(P_ε)$ which are minimizing for the Sobolev qutient as $ε$ goes to zero. We show that such solutions concentrate around a point $x_0\inΩ$ as $ε\to 0$, moreover $x_0$ is a critical point of the Robin's function. Conversely, we show that for any nondegenerate critical point $x_0$ of the Robin's function, ther…
We consider the focusing inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in $H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$, \begin{equation} iu_t + Δ^2 u - |x|^{-b}|u|^αu=0 \end{equation} when $b > 0$ and $N \geq 5$. We first obtain a small data global result in $H^2$, which, in the five-dimensional case, improves a previous result from Pastor and the second author. In the sequel, we show the main result, scattering below the mass-energy threshold in the intercritical case, that is, $\frac{8-2b}{N} < α<\frac{8-2b}{N-4}$, without assuming radiality of the initial data. The proof combines the decay of the nonlinea…
In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (IBNLS) \[iu_{t} +Δ^{2} u=λ|x|^{-b}|u|^σu,u(0)=u_{0} \in H^{s} (\mathbb R^{d}),\] where $λ\in \mathbb R$, $d\in \mathbb N$, $0<s<\min \{2+\frac{d}{2},\frac{3}{2}d\}$ and $0<b<\min\{4,d,\frac{3}{2}d-s,\frac{d}{2}+2-s\}$. Under some regularity assumption for the nonlinear term, we prove that the IBNLS equation is globally well-posed in $H^{s}(\mathbb R^{d})$ if $\frac{8-2b}{d}<σ< σ_{c}(s)$ and the initial data is sufficiently small, where $σ_{c}(s)=\frac{8-2b}{d-2s}$ if $s<\frac{d}{2}$, and…
We consider the mass-subcritical NLS in dimensions $d\geq 3$ with radial initial data. In the defocusing case, we prove that any solution that remains bounded in the critical Sobolev space throughout its lifespan must be global and scatter. In the focusing case, we prove the existence of a threshold solution that has a compact flow.
We consider the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger (IBNLS) equation in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $$i \partial_t u +Δ^2 u -|x|^{-b} |u|^{2σ}u = 0,$$ where $σ>0$ and $b>0$. We first study the local well-posedness in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^2 $, for $N\geq 5$ and $0<s_c<2$, where $s_c=\frac{N}{2}-\frac{4-b}{2σ}$. Next, we established a Gagliardo-Nirenberg type inequality in order to obtain sufficient conditions for global existence of solutions in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^2$ with $0\leq s_c<2$. Finally, we study the phenomenon of $L^{σ_c}$-norm concentration for finite time blow up solutions w…
We study the focusing mass-subcritical biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (BNLS) on the product space $\mathbb{R}_x^d\times\mathbb{T}_y^n$. Following the crucial scaling arguments introduced in \cite{TTVproduct2014} we establish existence and stability results for the normalized ground states of BNLS. Moreover, in the case where lower order dispersion is absent, we prove the existence of a critical mass number $c_0\in(0,\infty)$ that sharply determines the $y$-dependence of the deduced ground states. In the mixed dispersion case, we encounter a major challenge as the BNLS is no longer s…
We consider the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (IBNLS) $$ i u_t +Δ^2 u+λ|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0, $$ where $λ=\pm 1$ and $α$, $b>0$. We show local and global well-posedness in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^N)$ in the $H^s$-subcritical case, with $s=0,2$. Moreover, we prove a stability result in $H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$, in the mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical case. The fundamental tools to prove these results are the standard Strichartz estimates related to the linear problem.
For the 3D focusing cubic nonlinear Schrodinger equation, Scattering of $H^1$ solutions inside the (scale invariant) potential well was established by Holmer and Roudenko~\cite{HR2} (radial case) and Duyckaerts, Holmer and Roudenko~\cite{DHR} (general case). In this paper, we extend this result to arbitrary space dimensions and focusing, mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical power nonlinearities, by adapting the method of~\cite{DHR}.
We study the final-state problem for the mass-subcritical NLS above the Strauss exponent. For $u_+\in L^2$, we perform a physical-space randomization, yielding random final states $u_+^ω\in L^2$. We show that for almost every $ω$, there exists a unique, global solution to NLS that scatters to $u_+^ω$. This complements the deterministic result of Nakanishi, which proved the existence (but not necessarily uniqueness) of solutions scattering to prescribed $L^2$ final states.
We consider ground states solutions $u \in H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$ of biharmonic (fourth-order) nonlinear Schrödinger equations of the form $$ Δ^2 u + 2a Δu + b u - |u|^{p-2} u = 0 \quad \mbox{in $\mathbb{R}^N$} $$ with positive constants $a, b > 0$ and exponents $2 < p < 2^*$, where $2^* = \frac{2N}{N-4}$ if $N > 4$ and $2^* = \infty$ if $N \leq 4$. By exploiting a connection to the adjoint Stein--Tomas inequality on the unit sphere and by using trial functions due to Knapp, we prove a general symmetry breaking result by showing that all ground states $u\in H^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$ in dimension $N \geq …
In this paper, we study the dynamics of subcritical threshold solutions for focusing energy critical NLS on $\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d\geq 5$) with nonradial data. This problem with radial assumption was studied by T. Duyckaerts and F. Merle in \cite{DM} for $d=3,4,5$ and later by D. Li and X. Zhang in \cite{LZ} for $d \geq 6$. We generalize the conclusion for the subcritical threshold solutions by removing the radial assumption for $d\geq 5$. A key step is to show exponential convergence to the ground state $W(x)$ up to symmetries if the scattering phenomenon does not occur. Remarkably, an interactio…
We consider the mass-subcritical nonlinear Schrödinger equation in all space dimensions with focusing or defocusing nonlinearity. For such equations with critical regularity $s_c\in(\max\{-1,-\frac{d}{2}\},0)$, we prove that any solution satisfying $\|\, |x|^{|s_c|}e^{-itΔ} u\|_{L_t^\infty L_x^2} <\infty$ on its maximal interval of existence must be global and scatter.
We use asymptotic analysis and numerical simulations to study peak-type singular solutions of the supercritical biharmonic NLS. These solutions have a quartic-root blowup rate, and collapse with a quasi self-similar universal profile, which is a zero-Hamiltonian solution of a fourth-order nonlinear eigenvalue problem.
We investigate the existence of stationary solutions for the Nonlinear Schrödinger equation on compact metric graphs. In the L2-subcritical setting, we prove the existence of an infinite number of such solutions, for every value of the mass. In the critical regime, this infinity of solutions is established to exists if and only if the mass is lower or equal to a threshold value. Moreover, the relation between this threshold and the topology of the graph is characterized. The investigation is based on variational techniques and some new versions of Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities.
We consider the Cauchy problem for the biharmonic (i.\,e.~fourth-order) NLS with focusing nonlinearity given by $i \partial_t u = Δ^2 u - μΔu -|u|^{2 σ} u$ for $(t,x) \in [0,T) \times \mathbb{R}^d$, where $0 < σ<\infty$ for $d \leq 4$ and $0 < σ\leq 4/(d-4)$ for $d \geq 5$; and $μ\in \mathbb{R}$ is some parameter to include a possible lower-order dispersion. In the mass-supercritical case $σ> 4/d$, we prove a general result on finite-time blowup for radial data in $H^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$ in any dimension $d \geq 2$. Moreover, we derive a universal upper bound for the blowup rate for suitable $4/d …
We consider a perturbed energy critical focusing Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation in three dimensions. We construct solitary wave solutions for focusing subcritical perturbations as well as defocusing supercritical perturbations. The construction relies on the resolvent expansion, which is singular due to the presence of a resonance. Specializing to pure power focusing subcritical perturbations we demonstrate, via variational arguments, and for a certain range of powers, the existence of a ground state solitary wave, which is then shown to be the previously constructed solution. Finally, we pres…
We consider the Cauchy problem for the inhomogeneous biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger (IBNLS) equation \[iu_{t} +Δ^{2} u=λ|x|^{-b}|u|^σu,\;u(0)=u_{0} \in H^{s} (\mathbb R^{d}),\] where $λ\in \mathbb R$, $d\in \mathbb N$, $0\le s<\min\left\{2+\frac{d}{2},d\right\}$, $0<b<\min \left\{4,\; d-s,\; 2+\frac{d}{2}-s \right\}$ and $0<σ\le σ_{c}(s)$ with $σ<\infty$. Here $σ_{c}(s)=\frac{8-2b}{d-2s}$ if $s<\frac{d}{2}$, and $σ_{c}(s)=\infty$ if $s\ge \frac{d}{2}$. First, we give some remarks on Sobolev-Lorentz spaces and extend the chain rule under Lorentz norms for the fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^{s/2}$…
We study the scattering problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_t u + Δu = |u|^p u$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 1$, with a mass-subcritical nonlinearity above the Strauss exponent. For this equation, it is known that asymptotic completeness in $L^2$ with initial data in $Σ$ holds and the wave operator is well-defined on $Σ$. We show that there exists $0<β<p$ such that the wave operator and the data-to-scattering-state map do not admit extensions to maps $L^2\to L^2$ of class $C^{1+β}$ near the origin. This constitutes a mild form of ill-posedness for the scattering problem in t…
We investigate the initial value problem for a defocusing nonlinear Schrödingerequation with exponential nonlinearity. We identify subcritical, critical and supercritical regimes in the energy space. We establish global well-posedness in the subcritical and critical regimes. Well-posedness fails to hold in the supercritical case.
Using dual method we establish the existence of nodal ground state solution for the following class of problems $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{l} Δ^2 u = f(u), \quad \mbox{in} \quad Ω, \\ u =Bu=0,\quad\mbox{on} \quad \partial Ω\end{array} \right. $$ where $Δ^2$ is the biharmonic operator, $B=Δ$ or $B=\dfrac{\partial}{\partial ν}$ and $f$ is a $C^1$-function having subcritical growth.
We mainly consider the focusing biharmonic Schrödinger equation with a large radial repulsive potential $V(x)$: \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} iu_{t}+(Δ^2+V)u-|u|^{p-1}u=0,\;\;(t,x) \in {\bf{R}\times{\bf{R}}^{N}}, u(0, x)=u_{0}(x)\in H^{2}({\bf{R}}^{N}), \end{aligned}\right. \end{equation*} If $N>8$, \ $1+\frac{8}{N}<p<1+\frac{8}{N-4}$ (i.e. the $L^{2}$-supercritical and $\dot{H}^{2}$-subcritical case ), and $\langle x\rangle^β\big(|V(x)|+|\nabla V(x)|\big)\in L^\infty$ for some $β>N+4$, then we firstly prove a global well-posedness and scattering result for the radial data $u_0\in …
We investigate the existence of ground states with prescribed mass for the NLS energy with combined $L^2$-critical and subcritical nonlinearities, on a general non-compact metric graph $\mathcal{G}$. The interplay between the different nonlinearities creates new phenomena with respect to purely critical or subcritical problems on graphs; from a different perspective, topological and metric properties of the underlying graph drastically influence existence and non-existence of ground states with respect to the analogue problem on the real line.
In this paper, we consider the well-posedness of the inhomogeneous nonlinear biharmonic Schrödinger equation with spatial inhomogeneity coefficient $K(x)$ behaves like $\left|x\right|^{-b}$ for $0<b<\min \left\{\frac{N}{2},4\right\} $. We show the local well-posedness in the whole $H^s$-subcritical case, with $0<s\le2$. The difficulties of this problem come from the singularity of $K(x)$ and the lack of differentiability of the nonlinear term. To resolve this, we derive the bilinear Strichartz's type estimates for the nonlinear biharmonic Schrödinger equations in Besov spaces.
This paper is concerned with a biharmonic equation under the Navier boundary condition with nearly critical exponent. We study the asymptotic behavior os solutions which are minimizing for the Sobolev quatient. We show that such solutions concentrate around an interior point which is a critical point of the Robin's function. Conversely, we show that for any nondegenerate critical point fo the Robin's function, the exist solutions concentrating around such a point. Finally, we prove that, in contrast with what happened in the subcritical equation, the supercritical problem has no solutions whic…
We prove a Brezis-Kato-type regularity result for weak solutions to the biharmonic nonlinear equation $$ Δ^2 u = g(x,u)\qquad\text{in }\mathbb{R}^N$$ with a Carathéodory function $g:\mathbb{R}^N\times \mathbb{R}\to \mathbb{R}$, $N\geq 5$. The regularity results give rise to the existence of ground state solutions provided that $g$ has a general subcritical growth at infinity. We also conceive a new biharmonic logarithmic Sobolev inequality $$ \int_{\mathbb{R}^N}|u|^2\log |u|\,dx\leq\frac{N}{8}\log \Big(C\int_{\mathbb{R}^N}|Δu|^2\,dx \Big), \quad\text{for } u \in H^2(\mathbb{R}^N), \; \int_{\ma…
We consider short-range mass-subcritical nonlinear Schrödinger equations and we show that the corresponding solutions with initial data in $Σ$ scatter in $H^1$. Hence we up-grade the classical scattering result proved by Yajima and Tsutsumifrom $L^2$ to $H^1$.We also provide some partial results concerning the scattering of the first order moments, as well as a short proof via lens transform of a classical result due to Tsutsumi and Cazenave-Weissler on the scattering in $Σ$.
We consider the Schroedinger equation with a subcritical focusing power nonlinearity on a noncompact metric graph, and prove that for every finite edge there exists a threshold value of the mass, beyond which there exists a positive bound state achieving its maximum on that edge only. This bound state is characterized as a minimizer of the energy functional associated to the NLS equation, with an additional constraint (besides the mass prescription): this requires particular care in proving that the minimizer satisfies the Euler--Lagrange equation. As a consequence, for a sufficiently large ma…
We prove global well-posedness, scattering and blow-up results for energy-subcritical focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equations on the hyperbolic space. We show in particular the existence of a critical element for scattering for all energy-subcritical power nonlinearities. For mass-supercritical nonlinearity, we show a scattering vs blow-up dichotomy for radial solutions of the equation in low dimension, below natural mass and energy thresholds given by the ground states of the equation. The proofs are based on trapping by mass and energy, compactness and rigidity, and are similar to the ones …
Multi-soliton solutions, i.e. solutions behaving as the sum of N given solitons as $t\to +\infty$, were constructed in previous works for the L2 critical and subcritical (NLS) and (gKdV) equations. In this paper, we extend the construction of multi-soliton solutions to the L2 supercritical case both for (gKdV) and (NLS) equations, using a topological argument to control the direction of instability.
We study solutions of a semilinear elliptic equation with prescribed mass and Dirichlet homogeneous boundary conditions in the unitary ball. Such problem arises in the search of solitary wave solutions for nonlinear Schrödinger equations (NLS) with Sobolev subcritical power nonlinearity on bounded domains. Necessary and sufficient conditions are provided for the existence of such solutions. Moreover, we show that standing waves associated to least energy solutions are always orbitally stable when the nonlinearity is L^2-critical and subcritical, while they are almost always stable in the L^2-s…
We investigate the existence of ground states for the focusing subcritical NLS energy on metric graphs with localized nonlinearities. In particular, we find two thresholds on the measure of the region where the nonlinearity is localized that imply, respectively, existence or nonexistence of ground states. In order to obtain these results we adapt to the context of metric graphs some classical techniques from the Calculus of Variations.

We show robustness of various truncated and subcritical approximations to the stochastic defocusing mass-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) in dimension $d=1$, whose solution was constructed in [FX18] with one particular such approximation. The key ingredient in the proof is a uniform bound of the solutions to the family of deterministic mass-subcritical defocusing NLS.
We consider the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation with inverse-square potential in $\mathbb{R}^N$ $$ i u_t + \mathcal{L}_a u+λ|x|^{-b}|u|^αu = 0,\;\;\mathcal{L}_a=Δ-\frac{a}{|x|^2}, $$ where $λ=\pm1$, $α,b>0$ and $a>-\frac{(N-2)^2}{4}$. We first establish sufficient conditions for global existence and blow-up in $H^1_a(\mathbb{R}^N)$ for $λ=1$, using a Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type estimate. In the sequel, we study local and global well-posedness in $H^1_a(\mathbb{R}^N)$ in the $H^1$-subcritical case, applying the standard Strichartz estimates combined with the fixed point argument. The …
We prove large-data scattering and existence of wave operators in the energy space for the systems of $N$ defocusing fourth-order Schrödinger equations with mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical power-type nonlinearity. In addition, new nonlinear interaction Morawetz identities and inequalities are given, suitable to shed lights on the decay of the solution with respect some Lebesgue norms when the space dimensions are $d=3,4$.
We obtain global well-posedness, scattering, and global $L_t^4H_{x}^{1,4}$ spacetime bounds for energy-space solutions to the energy-subcritical nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[iu_t+Δu=u(e^{4π|u|^2}-1)\] in two spatial dimensions. Our approach is perturbative; we view our problem as a perturbation of the mass-critical NLS to employ the techniques of Tao--Visan--Zhang. This permits us to combine the known spacetime estimates for mass-critical NLS proved by Dodson and the work of Ibrahim--Majdoub--Masmoudi--Nakanishi on a related problem to prove corresponding spacetime estimates which imply sc…
We consider time global behavior of solutions to the focusing mass-subcritical NLS equation in weighted $L^2$ space. We prove that there exists a threshold solution such that (i) it does not scatter; (ii) with respect to a certain scale-invariant quantity, this solution attains minimum value in all non-scattering solutions. In the mass-critical case, it is known that ground states are this kind of threshold solution. However, in our case, it turns out that the above threshold solution is not a standing-wave solution.
We consider singular solutions of the biharmonic NLS. In the L^2-critical case, the blowup rate is bounded by a quartic-root power law, the solution approaches a self-similar profile, and a finite amount of L^2-norm, which is no less than the critical power, concentrates into the singularity ("strong collapse"). In the L^2-critical and supercritical cases, we use asymptotic analysis and numerical simulations to characterize singular solutions with a peak-type self-similar collapsing core. In the critical case, the blowup rate is slightly faster than a quartic-root, and the self-similar profile…
The nonlinear Schrödinger equations with nonlinearities $|u|^{2k}u$ on the $d$-dimensional torus are considered for arbitrary positive integers $k$ and $d$. The solution of the Cauchy problem is shown to be unique in the class $C_tH^s_x$ for a certain range of scale-subcritical regularities $s$, which is almost optimal in the case $d\geq 4$ or $k\geq 2$. The proof is based on various multilinear estimates and the infinite normal form reduction argument.
We study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with an inverse-square potential in dimensions $3\leq d \leq 6$. We consider both focusing and defocusing nonlinearities in the mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical regime. In the focusing case, we prove a scattering/blowup dichotomy below the ground state. In the defocusing case, we prove scattering in $H^1$ for arbitrary data.
We consider the focusing mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS). We are interested in the global behavior of the solutions to (NLS) with group invariance. By the group invariance, we can determine the global behavior of the solutions above the ground state standing waves.
In this article, we study the unconditional uniqueness of $\dot H^s$, $0<s< 1$, solutions for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_t u +Δu+ c |u|^αu=0$ in ${\mathbb R}^n$. We give a unified proof of the previously known results in the subcritical cases and critical cases, and we also extend these results to some previously unsettled cases. Our proof uses in particular negative order Sobolev spaces (or Besov spaces), general Strichartz estimates, and the improved regularity property for the difference of two solutions.
We study the multiplicity and concentration of complex valued solutions for a fractional magnetic Schrödinger equation involving a scalar continuous electric potential satisfying a local condition and a continuous nonlinearity with subcritical growth. The main results are obtained by applying a penalization technique, generalized Nehari manifold method and Ljusternik-Schnirelman theory. We also prove a Kato's inequality for the fractional magnetic Laplacian which we believe to be useful in the study of other fractional magnetic problems.
