A family of probability distributions parametrized by an open domain $Λ$ in $R^n$ defines the Fisher information matrix on this domain which is positive semi-definite. In information geometry the standard assumption has been that the Fisher information matrix tensor is positive definite defining in this way a Riemannian metric on $Λ$. If we replace the "positive definite" assumption by the existence of a suitable torsion-free connection, a foliation with a transversely Hessian structure appears naturally. In the paper we develop the study of transversely Hessian foliations in view of applications in information geometry.
We study the transversely metaplectic structure and the transversely symplectic Dirac operator on a transversely symplectic foliation. Moreover, we give the Weitzenbock type formula for transversely symplectic Dirac operators and we estimate the lower bound of the eigenvalues of the transversely symplectic Dirac operator on special spinors space on transverse Kahler foliations.
We study the transversal hard Lefschetz theorem on a transversely symplectic foliation. This article extends the results of transversally symplectic flows (H.K.~Pak, "Transversal harmonic theory for transversally symplectic flows", J. Aust. Math. Soc. 84 (2008), 233--245) to the general transversely symplectic foliation.
We give sufficient conditions for the tautness of a transversely homogenous foliation defined on a compact manifold, by computing its base-like cohomology. As an application, we prove that if the foliation is non-unimodular then either the ambient manifold, the closure of the leaves or the total space of an associated principal bundle fiber over $S^1$.
The purpose of this article is to adapt the Frolicher-type inequality to the case of transversely holomorphic and transversely symplectic foliations. These inequalities can be used to e.g. determine whether a given foliation can be made transversely Kahler (due to their relations to various dd'-lemmas). Our main results can be also stated for orbifolds as we point out in section 5 of this paper.
We study holomorphic foliations with an affine homogeneous transverse structure. We give a friendly characterization of the case of transversely affine foliations in terms of matrix valued pairs of differential forms. This leads naturally to the study of the case of foliations with singularities. A first extension theorem is then proved in the generic singularities framework.
For transversely homogeneous foliations on compact manifolds whose global holonomy group has connected closure, it is shown that either all holonomy covers of the leaves have polynomial growth with degree bounded by a common constant, or all holonomy covers of the leaves have exponential growth. This is an extension of a recent answer given by Breuillard and Gelander to a question of Carrière. Examples of transversely projective foliations satisfying the above condition were constructed by Chihi and ben Ramdane.
We show that the Hodge numbers of Sasakian manifolds are invariant under arbitrary deformations of the Sasakian structure. We also present an upper semi continuity Theorem for the dimensions of kernels of a smooth family of transversely elliptic operators on manifolds with transversely Riemannian foliations. We use this to prove that the $\partial\bar{\partial}$-lemma and being transversely Kähler are rigid properties under small deformations of the transversely holomorphic structure which preserve the foliation. Finally, we study an example which shows that this is not the case for arbitrary …
We consider a $(2q+1)$-dimensional smooth manifold $M$ equipped with a $(q+1)$-dimensional, a priori non-integrable, distribution ${\cal D}$ and a $q$-vector field ${\bf T}=T_1\wedge\ldots\wedge T_q$, where $\{T_i\}$ are linearly independent vector fields transverse to~${\cal D}$. Using a $q$-form $ω$ such that ${\cal D} = \ker\,ω$ and $ω({\bf T})=1$, we construct a $(2q+1)$-form analogous to that defining the Godbillon--Vey class of a $(q+1)$-dimensional foliation, and show how does this form depend on $ω$ and ${\bf T}$. For a compatible Riemannian metric $g$ on $M$, we express this $(2q+1)$-…
Let G be a simple Lie group of real rank one, and S the ideal boundary of the corresponding symmetric space of noncompact type (H^n_R, H^n_C, H^n_H or H^2_O). We show the finiteness of the possible values of the secondary characteristic classes of transversely homogeneous foliations on a fixed manifold whose transverse structures are modeled on the G-action on S, except the case where G=SO(n+1,1) for even n. For this exceptional case, we construct examples of foliations on a manifold which break the finiteness and show a weaker form of the finiteness. These are generalizations of a finiteness …
The classical Getzler rescaling theorem is extended to the transverse geometry of foliations. More precisely, a Getzler rescaling calculus, as well as a Block-Fox calculus of asymptotic operators, is constructed for all transversely spin foliations. This calculus applies to operators of degree $m$ globally times degree $\ell$ in the leaf directions, and is thus an appropriate tool for a better understanding of the index theory of transversely elliptic operators on foliations. The main result is that the composition of A$Ψ$DOs is again an A$Ψ$DO, and includes a formula for the leading symbol.
Let $M_t$ be an isoparametric foliation on the unit sphere $(S^{n-1}(1),g^{\mathrm{st}})$ with $d$ principal curvature values. Using the spherical coordinates induced by $M_t$, we construct a Minkowski norm with the presentation $F=r\sqrt{2f(t)}$, which generalizes the notions of $(α,β)$-norm and $(α_1,α_2)$-norm. Using the technique of spherical local frame, we give an exact and explicit answer for the question when $F=r\sqrt{2f(t)}$ really defines a Minkowski norm. Using the similar technique, we study the Hessian isometry $Φ$ between two Minkowski norms induced by $M_t$, which preserves the…
Motivated by the moduli theory of taut contact circles on spherical 3-manifolds, we relate taut contact circles to transversely holomorphic flows. We give an elementary survey of such 1-dimensional foliations from a topological viewpoint. We describe a complex analogue of the classical Godbillon-Vey invariant, the so-called Bott invariant, and a logarithmic monodromy of closed leaves. The Bott invariant allows us to formulate a generalised Gauß-Bonnet theorem. We compute these invariants for the Poincaré foliations on the 3-sphere and derive rigidity statements, including a uniformisation theo…
Earlier we introduced and studied the concept of holomorphic {\it branched Cartan geometry}. We define here a foliated version of this notion; this is done in terms of Atiyah bundle. We show that any complex compact manifold of algebraic dimension $d$ admits, away from a closed analytic subset of positive codimension, a nonsingular holomorphic foliation of complex codimension $d$ endowed with a transversely flat branched complex projective geometry (equivalently, a ${\mathbb C}P^d$-geometry). We also prove that transversely branched holomorphic Cartan geometries on compact complex projective r…
Consider the Hamiltonian action of a torus on a transversely symplectic foliation that is also Riemannian. When the transverse hard Lefschetz property is satisfied, we establish a foliated version of the Kirwan injectivity theorem, and use it to study Hamiltonian torus actions on transversely Kähler foliations. Among other things, we prove a foliated analogue of the Carrell--Liberman theorem. As an application, this confirms a conjecture raised by Battaglia--Zaffran on the basic Hodge numbers of symplectic toric quasifolds. Our methods also allow us to present a symplectic approach to the calc…
