We construct an infinite family of imaginary bicyclic biquadratic number fields $k$ with the 2-ranks of their 2-class groups are $\geq3$, whose strongly ambiguous classes of $k/Q(i)$ capitulate in the absolute genus field $k^{(*)}$, which is strictly included in the relative genus field $(k/Q(i))^*$ and we study the capitulation of the $2$-ideal classes of $k$ in its quadratic extensions included in $k^{(*)}$.
We study the capitulation of ideal classes in an infinite family of imaginary bicyclic biquadratic number fields consisting of fields $k =Q(\sqrt{2pq}, i)$, where $i=\sqrt{-1}$ and $p\equiv -q\equiv1 \pmod 4$ are different primes. For each of the three quadratic extensions $K/k$ inside the absolute genus field $k^{(*)}$ of $k$, we compute the capitulation kernel of $K/k$. Then we deduce that each strongly ambiguous class of $k/Q(i)$ capitulates already in $k^{(*)}$, which is smaller than the relative genus field $\left(k/Q(i)\right)^*$.
Let $k \,=\, \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{n},ζ_5)$, where $n$ is a positive integer, $5^{th}$ power-free, whose $5-$class group is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}/5\mathbb{Z}\times\mathbb{Z}/5\mathbb{Z}$. Let $k_0\,=\,\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5)$ be the cyclotomic field containing a primitive $5^{th}$ root of unity $ζ_5$. Let $C_{k,5}^{(σ)}$ the group of the ambiguous classes under the action of $Gal(k/k_0)$ = $<σ>$. The aim of this paper is to determine all integers $n$ such that the group of ambiguous classes $C_{k,5}^{(σ)}$ has rank $1$ or $2$.
Let $k=k_0(\sqrt[3]{d})$ be a cubic Kummer extension of $k_0=\mathbb{Q}(ζ_3)$ with $d>1$ a cube-free integer and $ζ_3$ a primitive third root of unity. Denote by $C_{k,3}^{(σ)}$ the $3$-group of ambiguous classes of the extension $k/k_0$ with relative group $G=\operatorname{Gal}(k/k_0)=\langleσ\rangle$. The aims of this paper are to characterize all extensions $k/k_0$ with cyclic $3$-group of ambiguous classes $C_{k,3}^{(σ)}$ of order $3$, to investigate the multiplicity $m(f)$ of the conductors $f$ of these abelian extensions $k/k_0$, and to classify the fields $k$ according to the cohomology…
We study the capitulation of $2$-ideal classes of an infinite family of imaginary bicyclic biquadratic number fields consisting of fields $\mathbf{k} =\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{p_1p_2q}, i)$, where $i=\sqrt{-1}$ and $p_1\equiv p_2\equiv-q\equiv1 \pmod 4$ are different primes. For each of the three quadratic extensions $\mathbf{K}/\mathbf{k}$ inside the absolute genus field $\mathbf{k}^{(*)}$ of $\mathbf{k}$, we compute the capitulation kernel of $\mathbf{K}/\mathbf{k}$. Then we deduce that each strongly ambiguous class of $\mathbf{k}/\mathbb{Q}(i)$ capitulates already in $\mathbf{k}^{(*)}$, which is sm…
Let $p_1$ and $p_2$ be two primes such that $p_1\equiv p_2\equiv1 \pmod4$ and at least two of the three elements $\{(\frac{2}{p_1}), (\frac{2}{p_2}), (\frac{p_1}{p_2})\}$ are equal to -1. Put $i=\sqrt{-1}$, $d=2p_1p_2$ and $k =Q(\sqrt{d}, i)$. Let $k_2^{(1)}$ be the Hilbert 2-class field of $k$ and $k^{(*)}=Q(\sqrt{p_1},\sqrt{p_2},\sqrt 2, i)$ be its genus field. Let $C_{k,2}$ denote the 2-part of the class group of $k$. The unramified abelian extensions of $k$ are $K_1=k(\sqrt{p_1})$, $K_2=k(\sqrt{p_2})$, $K_3=k(\sqrt{2})$ and $k^{(*)}$. Our goal is to study the capitulation problem of the 2-…
Let $p$ be a prime number such that $p\equiv 1$ mod $8$ and $i=\sqrt{-1}$. Let $\mathbf{k}=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{2p}, i)$, $\mathbf{k}_1^{(2)}$ be the Hilbert $2$-class field of $\mathbf{k}$, $\mathbf{k}_2^{(2)}$ be the Hilbert $2$-class field of $\mathbf{k}_1^{(2)}$ and $G=\mathrm{Gal}(\mathbf{k}_2^{(2)}/\mathbf{k})$ be the Galois group of $\mathbf{k}_2^{(2)}/\mathbf{k}$. Suppose that the $2$-part, $C_{\mathbf{k}, 2}$, of the class group of $\mathbf{k}$ is of type $(2, 4)$; then $\mathbf{k}_1^{(2)}$ contains six extensions $\mathbf{K_{i, j}}/\mathbf{k}$, $i=1, 2, 3$ and $j=2, 4$. Our goal is to st…
This paper introduces two classes of totally real quartic number fields, one of biquadratic extensions and one of cyclic extensions, each of which has a non-principal Euclidean ideal. It generalizes techniques of Graves used to prove that the number field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{2},\sqrt{35})$ has a non-principal Euclidean ideal.
We study the capitulation of $2$-ideal classes of an infinite family of imaginary biquadratic number fields consisting of fields $k =Q(\sqrt{pq_1q_2}, i)$, where $i=\sqrt{-1}$ and $q_1\equiv q_2\equiv-p\equiv-1 \pmod 4$ are different primes. For each of the three quadratic extensions $K/k$ inside the absolute genus field $k^{(*)}$ of $k$, we compute the capitulation kernel of $K/k$. Then we deduce that each strongly ambiguous class of $k/Q(i)$ capitulates already in $k^{(*)}$.
For integers $0 < r \leq t$, let the function $D_{r,t}(n)$ denote the number of parts among all partitions of $n$ into distinct parts that are congruent to $r$ modulo $t$. We prove the asymptotic formula $$D_{r,t}(n) \sim \dfrac{3^{\frac 14} e^{π\sqrt{\frac{n}{3}}}}{2πt n^{\frac 14}} \left( \log(2) + \left( \dfrac{\sqrt{3} \log(2)}{8π} - \dfracπ{4\sqrt{3}} \left( r - \dfrac{t}{2} \right) \right) n^{- \frac 12} \right)$$ as $n \to \infty$. A corollary of this result is that for $0 < r < s \leq t$, the inequality $D_{r,t}(n) \geq D_{s,t}(n)$ holds for all sufficiently large $n$. We make this eff…
For any prime $p$, let $y(p)$ denote the smallest integer $y$ such that every reduced residue class $\pmod p$ is represented by the product of some subset of $\{1,\dots,y\}$. It is easy to see that $y(p)$ is at least as large as the smallest quadratic nonresidue $\pmod p$; we prove that $y(p) \ll_\varepsilon p^{1/(4 \sqrt e)+\varepsilon}$, thus strengthening Burgess's classical result. This result is of intermediate strength between two other results, namely Burthe's proof that the multiplicative group $\pmod p$ is generated by the integers up to $O_\varepsilon(p^{1/(4 \sqrt e)+\varepsilon}$, …
We prove that the sequence $n!\,(\bmod\,p)$ occupies at least $\sqrt{\frac{3}{2}N}$ residue classes in the short interval $H\le n \le H+N$ and $N\gg p^{\frac{1}{4}}$ improving previously known trivial bound $\sqrt{N}.$ In the other direction, we estimate the average number of residue classes missed by the sequence $n!\,(\bmod\,p)$ for $p\le x.$
Let $K$ be a totally real number field of degree $n$ over $\mathbb{Q}$, with discriminant and regulator $Δ_K, R_K$ respectively. In this paper, using a similar method to van Woerden, we prove that the number of classes of perfect unary forms, up to equivalence and scaling, can be bounded above by $O( Δ_K \exp(2n \log(n)+f(n,R_K)))$, where $f(n,R_K)$ is a finite value, satisfying $f(n,R_K)=\frac{\sqrt{n-1}}{2}R_K^{\frac{1}{n-1}}+\frac{4}{n-1}\log(\sqrt{|Δ_K|})^2$ if $n \leq 11$. Moreover, if $K$ is a unit reducible field, the number of classes of perfect unary forms is bound above by $O( Δ_K \e…
We prove Fermat's Last Theorem over ${\mathbb Q}(\sqrt{5})$ and ${\mathbb Q}(\sqrt{17})$ for prime exponents $p \ge 5$ in certain congruence classes modulo $48$ by using a combination of the modular method and Brauer-Manin obstructions explicitly given by quadratic reciprocity constraints. The reciprocity constraint used to treat the case of ${\mathbb Q}(\sqrt{5})$ is a generalization to a real quadratic base field of the one used by Chen-Siksek. For the case of ${\mathbb Q}(\sqrt{17})$, this is insufficient, and we generalize a reciprocity constraint of Bennett-Chen-Dahmen-Yazdani using Hilbe…
For an infinite family of monogenic trinomials $P(X) = X^3\pm 3rbX-b$ in $\mathbb{Z}\lbrack X\rbrack$, arithmetical invariants of the cubic number field $L = \mathbb{Q}(θ)$, generated by a zero $θ$ of $P(X)$, and of its Galois closure $N = L(\sqrt{d(L)})$ are determined. The conductor $f$ of the cyclic cubic relative extension $N/K$, where $K = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d(L)})$ denotes the unique quadratic subfield of $N$, is proved to be of the form $3^eb$ with $e\in\lbrace 1,2\rbrace$, which admits statements concerning primitive ambiguous principal ideals, lattice minima, and independent units in $L…
Let $n$ be a $5^{th}$ power-free naturel number and $k_0\,=\,\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5)$ be the cyclotomic field generated by a primitive $5^{th}$ root of unity $ζ_5$. Then $k\,=\,\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{n},ζ_5)$ is a pure metacyclic field of absolute degree $20$. In the case that $k$ possesses a $5$-class group $C_{k,5}$ of type $(5,5)$ and all the classes are ambiguous under the action of $Gal(k/k_0)$, the capitulation of $5$-ideal classes of $k$ in its unramified cyclic quintic extensions is determined.
Let $Γ\,=\, \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{n})$ be a pure quintic field, where $n$ is a positive integer $5^{th}$ power-free, $k_0\,=\,\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5)$ be the cyclotomic field containing a primitive $5^{th}$ root of unity $ζ_5$, and $k\,=\,\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{n},ζ_5)$ the normal closure of $Γ$. Let $k_5^{(1)}$ be the Hilbert $5$-class field of $k$, $C_{k,5}$ the $5$-ideal classes group of $k$, and $C_{k,5}^{(σ)}$ the group of ambiguous classes under the action of $Gal(k/k_0)$ = $\langleσ\rangle$. When $C_{k,5}$ is of type $(5,5)$ and rank $C_{k,5}^{(σ)}\,=\,1$, we study the capitulation problem of the $5…
Let $p_1 \equiv p_2 \equiv5\pmod8$ be different primes. Put $i=\sqrt{-1}$ and $d=2p_1p_2$, then the bicyclic biquadratic field $k=Q(\sqrt{d}, \sqrt{-1})$ has an elementary abelian 2-class group of rank $3$. In this paper we determine the nilpotency class, the coclass, the generators and the structure of the non-abelian Galois group $\mathrm{Gal}(k_2^{(2)}/k)$ of the second Hilbert 2-class field $k_2^{(2)}$ of $k$. We study the capitulation problem of the 2-classes of $k$ in its seven unramified quadratic extensions $K_i$ and in its seven unramified bicyclic biquadratic extensions $L_i$.
Barrucand and Cohn's theory of principal factorizations in pure cubic fields \(\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[3]{D})\) and their Galois closures \(\mathbb{Q}(ζ_3,\sqrt[3]{D})\) with \(3\) types is generalized to pure quintic fields \(L=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{D})\) and pure metacyclic fields \(N=\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5,\sqrt[5]{D})\) with \(13\) possible types. The classification is based on the Galois cohomology of the unit group \(U_N\), viewed as a module over the automorphism group \(\mathrm{Gal}(N/K)\) of \(N\) over the cyclotomic field \(K=\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5)\), by making use of theorems by Hasse and Iwasawa on the He…
Let $\mathit{k}=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[3]{d},ζ_3)$, where $d>1$ is a cube-free positive integer, $\mathit{k}_0=\mathbb{Q}(ζ_3)$ be the cyclotomic field containing a primitive cube root of unity $ζ_3$, and $G=\operatorname{Gal}(\mathit{k}/\mathit{k}_0)$. The possible prime factorizations of $d$ in our main result [2, Thm. 1.1] give rise to new phenomena concerning the chain $Θ=(θ_i)_{i\in\mathbb{Z}}$ of \textit{lattice minima} in the underlying pure cubic subfield $L=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[3]{d})$ of $\mathit{k}$. The aims of the present work are to give criteria for the occurrence of generators of primiti…
By making use of our generalization of Barrucand and Cohn's theory of principal factorizations in pure cubic fields $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[3]{D})$ and their Galois closures $\mathbb{Q}(ζ_3,\sqrt[3]{D})$ with 3 possible types to pure quintic fields $L=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{D})$ and their pure metacyclic normal fields $N=\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5,\sqrt[5]{D})$ with 13 possible types, we compile an extensive database with arithmetical invariants of the 900 pairwise non-isomorphic fields $N$ having normalized radicands in the range $2\le D<10^3$. Our classification is based on the Galois cohomology of the unit grou…
Let $q$ be a power of a prime number $p$. Let $k=\mathbb{F}_{q}(t)$ be the rational function field with constant field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$. Let $K=k(α)$ be an Artin-Schreier extension of $k$. In this paper, we explicitly describe the ambiguous ideal classes and the genus field of $K$ . Using these results we study the $p$-part of the ideal class group of the integral closure of $\mathbb{F}_{q}[t]$ in $K$. And we also give an analogy of R$\acute{e}$dei-Reichardt's formulae for $K$.
Let $Γ\,=\, \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{n})$ be a pure quintic field, where $n$ is a positive integer, $5^{th}$ power-free. Let $k_0\,=\,\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5)$ be the cyclotomic field containing a primitive $5^{th}$ root of unity $ζ_5$, and $k\,=\,Γ(ζ_5)$ be the normal closure of $Γ$. Let $C_{k,5}$ be the $5$-component of the class group of k. The purpose of this paper is to determine generators of $C_{k,5}$, whenever it is of type $(5,5)$ and the rank of the group of ambiguous classes under the action of $Gal(k/k_0)\, =\,\langle σ\rangle$ is $1$.
Let $p_1\equiv p_2\equiv -q\equiv1 \pmod4$ be different primes such that $\displaystyle\left(\frac{2}{p_1}\right)= \displaystyle\left(\frac{2}{p_2}\right)=\displaystyle\left(\frac{p_1}{q}\right)=\displaystyle\left(\frac{p_2}{q}\right)=-1$. Put $d=p_1p_2q$ and $i=\sqrt{-1}$, then the bicyclic biquadratic field ${k}=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d},i)$ has an elementary abelian $2$-class group, $\mathbf{C}l_2(k)$, of rank $3$. In this paper, we study the principalization of the $2$-classes of ${k}$ in its fourteen unramified abelian extensions $\mathbb{K}_j$ and $\mathbb{L}_j$ within ${k}_2^{(1)}$, that is t…
For integers $k,t \geq 2$ and $1\leq r \leq t$ let $D_k(r,t;n)$ be the number of parts among all $k$-regular partitions (i.e., partitions of $n$ where all parts have multiplicity less than $k$) of $n$ that are congruent to $r$ modulo $t$. Using the circle method, we obtain the asymptotic \[ D_{k}(r,t;n) = \frac{3^{\frac{1}{4}}e^{π\sqrt{\frac{2Kn}{3}}}}{πt 2^{\frac{3}{4}}K^{\frac{1}{4}}n^{\frac{1}{4}}\sqrt{k}}\left(\log k + \left(\frac{3\sqrt{K}\log k}{8\sqrt{6}π} - \frac{tπ(k-1)K^{\frac{1}{2}}}{2\sqrt{6}}\left(\frac{r}{t}- \frac{1}{2}\right)\right)n^{-\frac{1}{2}} + O(n^{-1})\right), \] where …
For a cyclic Kummer extension $K$ of a rational function field $k$ is considered, via class field theory, the extended Hilbert class field $K_H^+$ of $K$ and the corresponding extended genus field $K_g^+$ of $K$ over $k$, along the lines of the definitions of R. Clement for such extensions of prime degree. We obtain $K_g^+$ explicitly. Also, we use cohomology to determine the number of ambiguous classes and obtain a reciprocity law for $K/k$. Finally, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for a prime of $K$ to decompose fully in $K_g^+$.
