The moduli space ${\rm M}_{d}$, of complex rational maps of degree $d \geq 2$, is a connected complex orbifold which carries a natural real structure, coming from usual complex conjugation. Its real points are the classes of rational maps admitting antiholomorphic automorphisms. The locus of the real points ${\rm M}_{d}({\mathbb R})$ decomposes as a disjoint union of the loci ${\rm M}_{d}^{\mathbb R}$, consisting of the real rational maps, and ${\mathcal P}_{d}$, consisting of the pseudo-real ones. We obtain that, both ${\rm M}_{d}^{\mathbb R}$ and ${\rm M}_{d}({\mathbb R})$, are connected and that ${\mathcal P}_{d}$ is disconnected. We also observe that the group of holomorphic automorphisms of a pseudo-real rational map is either trivial or a cyclic group. For every $n \geq 1$, we construct pseudo-real rational maps whose group of holomorphic automorphisms is cyclic of order $n$. As the field of moduli of a pseudo-real rational map is contained in ${\mathbb R}$, these maps provide examples of rational maps which are not definable over their field of moduli. It seems that these are the only explicit examples in the literature (Silverman) of rational maps which cannot be defined over their field of moduli. We provide explicit examples of real rational maps which cannot be defined over their field of moduli. Finally, we also observe that every real rational map, which admits a model over the algebraic numbers, can be defined over the real algebraic numbers.
In this article, we show that every rational map whose multipliers all lie in a given number field is a power map, a Chebyshev map or a Lattès map. This strengthens a conjecture by Milnor concerning rational maps with integer multipliers, which was recently proved by Ji and Xie.
In this article, we prove that every unicritical polynomial map that has only rational multipliers is either a power map or a Chebyshev map. This provides some evidence in support of a conjecture by Milnor concerning rational maps whose multipliers are all integers.
We show that the topological entropy is monotonic for unimodal interval maps which are obtained from the restriction of quadratic rational maps with real coefficients. This is done by ruling out the existence of certain post-critical curves in the moduli space of aforementioned maps, and confirms a conjecture made in [Fil19] based on experimental evidence.
In this paper, we study hyperbolic rational maps with finitely connected Fatou sets. We construct models of post-critically finite hyperbolic tree mapping schemes for such maps, generalizing post-critically finite rational maps in the case of connected Julia set. We show they are general limits of rational maps as we quasiconformally stretch the dynamics. Conversely, we use quasiconformal surgery to show any post-critically finite hyperbolic tree mapping scheme arises as such a limit. We construct abundant examples thanks to the flexibilities of the models, and use them to construct a sequence…
In this short note we observe that within the family of slowly recurrent rational maps on the Riemann sphere, the Collet-Eckmann, second Collet-Eckmann, and topological Collet-Eckmann conditions are equivalent and also invariant under topological conjugacy.
Left-coprimeness condition for the reachability in finite time of pseudo-rational systems of order zero with an application to difference delay systems
We provide a natural canonical decomposition of postcritically finite rational maps with non-empty Fatou sets based on the topological structure of their Julia sets. The building blocks of this decomposition are maps where all Fatou components are Jordan disks with disjoint closures (Sierpiński maps), as well as those where any two Fatou components can be connected through a countable chain of Fatou components with common boundary points (crochet or Newton-like maps). We provide several alternative characterizations for our decomposition, as well as an algorithm for its effective computation. …
Let $f$ be a postcritically finite rational map. We prove that, as $n$ large enough, there exists an $f^n$-invariant (finite connected) graph on $\widehat{\mathbb{C}}$ such that it contains the postcritical set of $f$.
In this paper we study properties of endomorphisms of $\p^k$ using a symmetric product construction $(\p^1)^k/\mathfrak{S}_k \cong \p^k$. Symmetric products have been used to produce examples of endomorphisms of $\p^k$ with certain characteristics, $k\geq2$. In the present note, we discuss the use of these maps to enlighten stability phenomena in parameter spaces. In particular, we study $k$-deep post-critically finite maps and characterize families of Lattès maps.
Given a rational map $f:\widehat{\mathbb C}\to\widehat{\mathbb C}$ on the Riemann sphere, we define $\mathrm{Deck}(f)$ to be the group of Möbius transformations $μ$ satisfying $f \circ μ= f$. In this note, we consider the groups $\mathrm{Deck}(f^k)$, where $f$ is a \emph{bicritical} rational map (that is, a rational map with exactly two critical points) and $f^k$ denotes the $k$th iterate of $f$. In particular, we give a complete description of which groups (up to isomorphism) arise as the groups $\mathrm{Deck}(f^k)$ for bicritical rational maps $f$.
In this article, we consider a counting problem for orbits of hyperbolic rational maps on the Riemann sphere, where constraints are placed on the multipliers of orbits. Using arguments from work of Dolgopyat, we consider varying and potentially shrinking intervals, and obtain a result which resembles a local central limit theorem for the logarithm of the absolute value of the multiplier and an equidistribution theorem for the holonomies.
We prove that the entropy function on the moduli space of real quadratic rational maps is not monotonic by exhibiting a continuum of disconnected level sets. This entropy behavior is in stark contrast with the case of polynomial maps, and establishes a conjecture on the failure of monotonicity for bimodal real quadratic rational maps of shape $(+-+)$ which was posed in arXiv:1901.03458 based on experimental evidence.

One of the conspicuous features of real slices of bicritical rational maps is the existence of Tricorn-type hyperbolic components. Such a hyperbolic component is called invisible if the non-bifurcating sub-arcs on its boundary do not intersect the closure of any other hyperbolic component. Numerical evidence suggests an abundance of invisible Tricorn-type components in real slices of bicritical rational maps. In this paper, we study two different families of real bicritical maps and characterize invisible Tricorn-type components in terms of suitable topological properties in the dynamical plan…
A study of real quadratic maps with real critical points, emphasizing the effective construction of critically finite maps with specified combinatorics. We discuss the behavior of the Thurston algorithm in obstructed cases, and in one exceptional badly behaved case, and provide a new description of the appropriate moduli spaces. There is also an application to topological entropy.
