The effect on particle physics processes by intense electromagnetic fields in the charge bunch collisions at future lepton colliders is considered. Since the charge bunch fields are tied to massive sources (the $e^{+}e^{-}$ charges), a reference frame is chosen in which the fields appear to be co-propagating. Solutions of the Dirac equation minimally coupled to the electromagnetic fields reasonably associated with two intense overlapping charge bunches are obtained and found to be a Volkov solution with respect to a null 4-vector whose 3-vector part lies in the common propagation direction. These solutions are used within the Furry interaction picture to calculate the beamstrahlung transition rate for electron radiation due to interaction with the electromagnetic fields of two colliding charge bunches. New analytic expressions are obtained and compared numerically with the beamstrahlung in the electromagnetic field of one charge bunch. The techniques developed will be applied to other collider physics processes in due course.
Future linear colliders designs, ILC and CLIC, are expected to be powerful machines for the discovery of Physics Beyond the Standard Model and subsequent precision studies. However, due to the intense beams (high luminosity, high energy), strong electromagnetic fields occur in the beam-beam interaction region. In the context of precision high energy physics, the presence of such strong fields may yield sensitive corrections to the observed electron-positron processes. The Furry picture of quantum states gives a conceptually simple tool to treat physics processes in an external field. A general…
Based on strong-field QED in the Furry picture we use the Dirac-Volkov propagator to derive a compact expression for the differential emission probability of the two-photon Compton process in a pulsed intense laser field. The relation of real and virtual intermediate states is discussed, and the natural regularization of the on-shell contributions due to the finite laser pulse is highlighted. The inclusive two-photon spectrum is two orders of magnitude stronger than expected from a perturbative estimate.
A theoretical and phenomenological consideration is given to higher order, strong field effects in electron/laser interactions. A consistent strong field theory is the Furry interaction picture of intense field quantum field theory. In this theory, fermions are embedded in the strong laser field and the Volkov wavefunction solutions that result, are exact with respect to the strong field. When these Volkov fermions interact with individual photons from other sources, the transition probability is enhanced in a series of resonances when the kinematics allow the virtual fermion to go on-shell. A…
In principle, this paper suggests powerful laser technology as a promising instrument that can be experimentally useful to control the lifetime and branching ratio for an unstable particle decay. In a recent paper [arXiv:2101.00224], we calculated theoretically the $W^{-}$-boson leptonic decay $(W^{-}\rightarrow \ell^{-} \barν_{\ell})$ in the presence of a circularly polarized laser and we showed that the laser significantly contributed to the diminution of the leptonic decay rate. In this paper, as a continuation of the previous one, we mainly deal with the theoretical calculation of the $W^{…
Future lepton colliders will be precision machines whose physics program includes close study of the Higgs sector and searches for new physics via polarised beams. The luminosity requirements of such machines entail very intense lepton bunches at the interaction point with associated strong electromagnetic fields. These strong fields not only lead to obvious phenomena such as beamstrahlung, but also potentially affect every particle physics process via virtual exchange with the bunch fields. For precision studies, strong field effects have to be understood to the sub-percent level. Strong exte…
We propose a new idea to test a class of loop-induced neutrino mass mechanisms by searching for lepton number violating charged current processes with incident of a neutrino beam. The expected rates of these processes are estimated based on some theoretical assumptions. They turn out to be sizable so that detection of such processes could be possible at near detectors in future highly intense neutrino-beam facilities.
Studies of strong field particle physics processes in electron/laser interactions and lepton collider interaction points are reviewed. These processes are defined by the high intensity of the electromagnetic fields involved and the need to take them into account as fully as possible. The main theoretical framework considered is the Furry picture. In this framework, the influence of a background electromagnetic field in the Lagrangian is calculated non perturbatively, involving exact solutions for quantised charged particles in the background field. These "dressed" particles go on to interact p…
In this paper, we investigate the charged Higgs boson decay in the context of the type-II two-Higgs-doublet model in the presence of a circularly polarized electromagnetic field of laser radiation. The calculations are performed by adopting the Furry picture approach of non-perturbative interactions with the external electromagnetic field. Using the method of exact solutions for charged particles states in the presence of a circularly polarized electromagnetic wave field and evaluating the $S$-matrix elements, an exact analytic expression is derived for the decay width of leptonic, hadronic an…

We calculate a novel "magnetic contribution" to the dilepton spectrum in heavy-ion collisions arising from interaction of relativistic quarks with intense magnetic field. Synchrotron radiation by quarks, which can be approximated by the equivalent photon flux, is followed by dilepton decay of photons in intense magnetic field. We argue that "magnetic contribution" dominates the dilepton spectrum at low lepton energies, whereas a conventional photon dilepton decay dominates at higher lepton energies.
Even though neutrinos are neutral particles and interact only via the exchange of weak gauge bosons, charged leptons and quarks can mediate a coupling to the photon field beyond tree level. Inside a relativistically strong laser field nonlinear effects in the laser amplitude can play an important role, as electrons and positrons interact nonperturbatively with the coherent part of the photon field. Here, we calculate for the first time the leading-order contribution to the axial-vector--vector current-coupling tensor inside an arbitrary plane-wave laser field (which is taken into account exact…
We study particle and chirality production from the vacuum in the presence of a slow strong parallel electromagnetic field superimposed by a fast weak perturbative electromagnetic field. We derive an analytical formula for the particle and chirality production number based on the perturbation theory in the Furry picture. With the formula, we analytically discuss the interplay and dynamical assistance between the Schwinger mechanism and one-photon pair production and clarify effects of a parallel slow strong magnetic field. We also show that the dynamical assistance can significantly enhance ch…
One of the major open issues in neutrino physics is the possible existence of CP violation in the neutrino sector. Such an observation would have an important impact in various domains of physics, from high energy physics to cosmology. Its search requires future accelerator neutrino facilities producing intense and pure neutrino beams such as "beta-beams". Here we review the different beta-beam scenarios proposed so far and discuss the present status, with a particular emphasis on the original baseline scenario and its feasibility. Alternative strategies for the CP violation search are to be p…
It is known that the linearly polarized photons can partly transform to circularly polarized ones via forward Compton scattering in a background such as the external magnetic field or noncommutative space time. Based on this fact we explore the effects of the NC-background on the scattering of a linearly polarized laser beam from an intense beam of charged leptons. We show that for a muon/electron beam flux $\bar\varepsilon_{μ,e}\sim 10^{12}/10^{10}\,{\rm TeV}\,{\rm cm}^{-2}\,{\rm sec}^{-1}$ and a linearly polarized laser beam with energy $k^0\sim $1 eV and average power $\bar{P}_{\rm laser}\s…
We study the effect of intense magnetic fields on the phase diagram of cold, strongly interacting matter within an extended version of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model that includes flavor mixing effects and vector interactions. Different values of the relevant model parameters in acceptable ranges are considered. Charge neutrality and beta equilibrium effects, which are specially relevant to the study of compact stars, are also taken into account. In this case the behavior of leptons is discussed.
We study multi-photon effects in quantum electrodynamics in lepton photo-production on heavy nuclei and nuclear medium at high energies. We are interested in energy, charge density and nuclear geometry dependence of the cross sections. We use the impact parameter representation that allows us to reduce the problem of photo-production to the problem of propagation of electric dipoles in the nuclear Coulomb field. In the framework of the Glauber model we resum an infinite series of multiphoton amplitudes corresponding to multiple rescattering of the electric dipole on the nucleus. We find that u…
We clarify how intense laser irradiation leads to an enhancement of rare processes that may occur within atoms. Non-perturbative calculation using a coherent laser beam gives an exact, time dependent formula of the enhancement factor in the large power limit. A high quality laser may provide a new tool of experimentally investigating physics far beyond the standard model of particle physics such as lepton and baryon nonconservation.
The probability of Z-boson decay to a pair of charged fermions in a strong electromagnetic field, is calculated. On the basis of a method that employs exact solutions to relativistic wave equations for charged particles, analytic expressions for the partial decay widths of Z-boson are obtained at an arbitrary value the external-field strength. The total Z-boson decay width in an intense electromagnetic field, is calculated by summing these results over all known generations of charged leptons and quarks. It is found that, in the region of relatively weak fields, the field-induced corrections t…
Chiral electroweak anomalies predict fermion interactions that violate baryon ($B$) and lepton number ($L$), and can be dressed with large numbers of Higgs and gauge bosons. The estimation of the total $B+L$ violating rate from an initial two-particle state --potentially observable at colliders-- has been the subject of an intense discussion, mainly centered on the resummation of boson emission, which is believed to contribute to the cross-section with an exponential function of the energy, yet with an exponent (the "holy-grail" function) which is not fully known in the energy range of interes…
