Ideal fluid dynamics is studied as a relativistic field theory with particular importance on its hamiltonian structure. The Schwinger condition, whose integrated version yields the stress tensor conservation, is explicitly verified both in equal-time and light-cone coordinate systems. We also consider the hamiltonian formulation of fluids interacting with an external gauge field. The complementary roles of the canonical(Noether) stress tensor and the symmetric one obtained by metric variation are discussed. Finally, a non-relativistic reduction of the system in light-cone coordinates has been carried out which reproduces results found earlier in the literature.
We provide a detailed description for power-law scaling FRW cosmological models in Brans-Dicke theory dominated by two interacting fluid components during the expansion of the universe.
We study curved isotropic cosmologies filled with two interacting fluids near their time singularities. We find that a number of these universes asymptote to flat limits in the sense that their asymptotic properties become indistinguishable from those of flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker models on approach to the singularity along any asymptotic direction. In particular, there are no essential singularities in these models. We discuss connections of this result with possible extensions of the cosmic no hair theorem to the case of two interacting fluids, and also provide links to a quantum cosmol…
It is well known that Kasner-type cosmologies provide a useful framework for analyzing the three-dimensional anisotropic expansion because of the simplification of the anisotropic dynamics. In this paper relativistic multi-fluid Kasner-type scenarios are studied. We first consider the general case of a superposition of two ideal cosmic fluids, as well as the particular cases of non-interacting and interacting ones, by introducing a phenomenological coupling function $q(t)$. For two-fluid cosmological scenarios there exist only cosmological scaling solutions, while for three-fluid configuration…
We investigate the field equations in the Einstein-aether theory for static spherically symmetric spacetimes and a perfect fluid source and subsequently with the addition of a scalar field (with an exponential self-interacting potential). We introduce more appropriate dynamical variables that facilitate the study of the equilibrium points of the resulting dynamical system and, in addition, we discuss the dynamics at infinity. We study the qualitative properties of the models with a particular interest in their asymptotic behaviour and whether they admit singularities. We also present a number …
We study models of non-minimally coupled relativistic fluid and $k$-essence scalar field in the background of a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe. The non-minimal coupling term is introduced in the Lagrangian level. We employ the variational approach with respect to independent variables that produce modified $k-$essence field equations and the Friedmann equations. We have analyzed the coupled field-fluid framework explicitly using the dynamical system technique considering two different models based on inverse power-law potential. After examining these models it is seen that b…
We provide a detailed description for power--law scaling Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmological scenarios dominated by two interacting perfect fluid components during the expansion. As a consequence of the mutual interaction between the two fluids, neither component is conserved separately and the energy densities are proportional to $1/t^{2}$. It is shown that in flat FRW cosmological models there can exist interacting superpositions of two perfect fluids (each of them having a positive energy density) which accelerate the expansion of the universe. In this family there also exist flat power…
We study the rest-frame instant form of a new formulation of relativistic perfect fluids in terms of new generalized Eulerian configuration coordinates. After the separation of the relativistic center of mass from the relative variables on the Wigner hyper-planes, we define orientational and shape variables for the fluid, viewed as a relativistic extended deformable body, by introducing dynamical body frames. Finally we define Dixon's multipoles for the fluid.
We suggest the Hamiltonian approach for fluid mechanics based on the dynamics, formulated in terms of Lagrangian variables. The construction of the canonical variables of the fluid sheds a light of the origin of Clebsh variables, introduced in the previous century. The developed formalism permits to relate the circulation conservation (Tompson theorem) with the invariance of the theory with respect to special diffiomorphisms and establish also the new conservation laws. We discuss also the difference of the Eulerian and Lagrangian description, pointing out the incompleteness of the first. The …
There is no unique way to describe the dark energy-dark matter interaction, as we have little information about the nature and dynamics of the dark sector. Hence, in many of the phenomenological dark matter fluid interaction models in the literature, the interaction strength $Q_ν$ in the dark sector is introduced by hand. Demanding that the interaction strength $Q_ν$ in the dark sector must have a field theory description, we obtain a unique form of interaction strength. We show the equivalence between the fields and fluids for the $f(R,χ)$ model where $f$ is an arbitrary, smooth function of $…
The dark energy component of the cosmic budget is represented by a self-interacting scalar field. The violation of the null energy condition is allowed. Hence, such component can also represent a phantom fluid. The model is tested using supernova type Ia and matter power spectrum data. The supernova test leads to preferred values for configurations representing the phantom fluid. The matter power spectrum constraints for the dark energy equation of state parameter are highly degenerated. In both cases, values for the equation of state parameter corresponding to the phantom fluid are highly adm…
We compute the partition function for non-interacting chiral fermions at second order in a derivative expansion of an arbitrary time-independent gravitational and gauge background. We find that Pauli-Villars regularization of the vacuum part is needed to get consistent results. We use our results to discuss some features of the non-dissipative constitutive relations of second order hydrodynamics.
In the context of non-relativistic quantum field theory, a method is proposed for multiplying field operators at the same spatial point and obtaining regular (i.e. rigorously defined) interaction terms for the Hamiltonian. The basic idea is to modify the Lebesgue measure of configuration space of many particles by adding singular measures over the subspaces of configuration space in which the positions of two or more particles coincide.
We generalize the hybrid magneto-fluid model of a charged fluid interacting with an electromagnetic field to the dynamics of a relativistic hot fluid interacting with a non-Abelian field. The fluid itself is endowed with a non-Abelian charge and the consequences of this generalization are worked out. Applications of this formalism to the Quark Gluon Plasma are suggested.
In ergodic quantum systems, physical observables have a non-relaxing component if they "overlap" with a conserved quantity. In interacting microscopic models, how to isolate the non-relaxing component is unclear. We compute exact dynamical correlators governed by a Hamiltonian composed of two large interacting random matrices, $H=A+B$. We analytically obtain the late-time value of $\langle A(t) A(0) \rangle$; this quantifies the non-relaxing part of the observable $A$. The relaxation to this value is governed by a power-law determined by the spectrum of the Hamiltonian $H$, independent of the …
Entanglement is the fundamental difference between classical and quantum systems and has become one of the guiding principles in the exploration of high- and low-energy physics. The calculation of entanglement entropies in interacting quantum field theories, however, remains challenging. Here, we present the first method for the explicit computation of reduced density matrices of interacting quantum field theories using truncated Hamiltonian methods. The method is based on constructing an isomorphism between the Hilbert space of the full system and the tensor product of Hilbert spaces of sub-i…
Weyl semimetals (WSMs) constitute a 3D phase with linearly-dispersing Weyl excitations at low energy, which lead to unusual electrodynamic responses and open Fermi arcs on boundaries. We derive a simple criterion to identify and characterize WSMs in an interacting setting using the exact electronic Green's function at zero frequency, which defines a topological Bloch Hamiltonian. We apply this criterion by numerically analyzing, via cluster and other methods, interacting lattice models with and without time-reversal symmetry. We identify various mechanisms for how interactions move and renorma…
