Let $k\ge 2$ be an integer and $T_1,\ldots, T_k$ be spanning trees of a graph $G$. If for any pair of vertices $(u,v)$ of $V(G)$, the paths from $u$ to $v$ in each $T_i$, $1\le i\le k$, do not contain common edges and common vertices, except the vertices $u$ and $v$, then $T_1,\ldots, T_k$ are completely independent spanning trees in $G$. For $2k$-regular graphs which are $2k$-connected, such as the Cartesian product of a complete graph of order $2k-1$ and a cycle and some Cartesian products of three cycles (for $k=3$), the maximum number of completely independent spanning trees contained in these graphs is determined and it turns out that this maximum is not always $k$.
The search of spanning trees with interesting disjunction properties has led to the introduction of edge-disjoint spanning trees, independent spanning trees and more recently completely independent spanning trees. We group together these notions by defining (i, j)-disjoint spanning trees, where i (j, respectively) is the number of vertices (edges, respectively) that are shared by more than one tree. We illustrate how (i, j)-disjoint spanning trees provide some nuances between the existence of disjoint connected dominating sets and completely independent spanning trees. We prove that determinin…
A $P_\ell$-decomposition of a graph $G$ is a set of paths with $\ell$ edges in $G$ that cover the edge set of $G$. Favaron, Genest, and Kouider (2010) conjectured that every $(2k+1)$-regular graph that contains a perfect matching admits a $P_{2k+1}$-decomposition. They also verified this conjecture for $5$-regular graphs without cycles of length $4$. In 2015, Botler, Mota, and Wakabayashi verified this conjecture for $5$-regular graphs without triangles. In this paper, we verify it for $(2k+1)$-regular graphs that contain the $k$th power of a spanning cycle; and for $5$-regular graphs that con…
In this paper, we present some new results describing connections between the spectrum of a regular graph and its generalized connectivity, toughness, and the existence of spanning trees with bounded degree.
Partially answering a question of Paul Seymour, we obtain a sufficient eigenvalue condition for the existence of $k$ edge-disjoint spanning trees in a regular graph, when $k\in \{2,3\}$. More precisely, we show that if the second largest eigenvalue of a $d$-regular graph $G$ is less than $d-\frac{2k-1}{d+1}$, then $G$ contains at least $k$ edge-disjoint spanning trees, when $k\in \{2,3\}$. We construct examples of graphs that show our bounds are essentially best possible. We conjecture that the above statement is true for any $k<d/2$.

We consider the fundamental Matroid Theory problem of finding a circuit in a matroid spanning a set T of given terminal elements. For graphic matroids this corresponds to the problem of finding a simple cycle passing through a set of given terminal edges in a graph. The algorithmic study of the problem on regular matroids, a superclass of graphic matroids, was initiated by Gavenčiak, Král', and Oum [ICALP'12], who proved that the case of the problem with |T|=2 is fixed-parameter tractable (FPT) when parameterized by the length of the circuit. We extend the result of Gavenčiak, Král', and Oum b…
For any integer $ρ\geq 1$ and for any prime power q, the explicit construction of a infinite family of completely regular (and completely transitive) q-ary codes with d=3 and with covering radius $ρ$ is given. The intersection array is also computed. Under the same conditions, the explicit construction of an infinite family of q-ary uniformly packed codes (in the wide sense) with covering radius $ρ$, which are not completely regular, is also given. In both constructions the Kronecker product is the basic tool that has been used.
Novel Monte Carlo estimators are proposed to solve both the Tikhonov regularization (TR) and the interpolation problems on graphs. These estimators are based on random spanning forests (RSF), the theoretical properties of which enable to analyze the estimators' theoretical mean and variance. We also show how to perform hyperparameter tuning for these RSF-based estimators. TR is a component in many well-known algorithms, and we show how the proposed estimators can be easily adapted to avoid expensive intermediate steps in generalized semi-supervised learning, label propagation, Newton's method …
Given a connected, undirected graph whose edges are labelled (or coloured), the minimum labelling spanning tree (MLST) problem seeks a spanning tree whose edges have the smallest number of distinct labels (or colours). In recent work, the MLST problem has been shown to be NP-hard and some effective heuristics have been proposed and analyzed. In this paper we present an intelligent optimization algorithm to solve the problem. It is obtained by the basic Variable Neighbourhood Search heuristic with the integration of other complements from machine learning, statistics and experimental algorithmi…
In this paper we consider completely regular codes, obtained from perfect (Hamming) codes by lifting the ground field. More exactly, for a given perfect code C of length n=(q^m-1)/(q-1) over F_q with a parity check matrix H_m, we define a new code C_{(m,r)} of length n over F_{q^r}, r > 1, with this parity check matrix H_m. The resulting code C_{(m,r)} is completely regular with covering radius R = min{r,m}. We compute the intersection numbers of such codes and, finally, we prove that Hamming codes are the only codes that, after lifting the ground field, result in completely regular codes.
