In a previous paper it was shown that any dark sector model can be mapped into a non-adiabatic fluid formed by two interacting components, one with zero pressure and the other with equation-of-state parameter $ω= -1$. It was also shown that the latter does not cluster and, hence, the former is identified as the observed clustering matter. This guarantees that the dark matter power spectrum does not suffer from oscillations or instabilities. It applies in particular to the generalised Chaplygin gas, which was shown to be equivalent to interacting models at both background and perturbation levels. In the present paper we test the non-adiabatic Chaplygin gas against the Hubble diagram of type Ia supernovae, the position of the first acoustic peak in the anisotropy spectrum of the cosmic microwave background and the linear power spectrum of large scale structures. We consider two different samples of SNe Ia, namely the Constitution and SDSS compilations, both calibrated with the MLCS2k2 fitter, and for the power spectrum we use the 2dFGRS catalogue. The model parameters to be adjusted are the present Hubble parameter, the present matter density and the Chaplygin gas parameter $α$. The joint analysis best fit gives $α\approx - 0.5$, which corresponds to a constant-rate energy flux from dark energy to dark matter, with the dark energy density decaying linearly with the Hubble parameter. The $Λ$CDM model, equivalent to $α= 0$, stands outside the $3σ$ confidence interval. This result is still valid if we use, as supernovae samples, the SDSS and Union2.1 compilations calibrated with the SALT2 fitter.
The split of a generalised Chaplygin gas with an equation of state p = -A/ρ^α into an interacting mixture of pressureless matter and a dark-energy component with equation of state p_Λ = - ρ_Λ implies the existence of non-adiabatic pressure perturbations. We demonstrate that the square of the effective (non-adiabatic) sound speed c_s of the medium is proportional to the ratio of the perturbations of the dark energy to those of the dark matter. Since, as demonstrated explicitly for the particular case α= -1/2, dark-energy perturbations are negligible compared with dark-matter perturbations on sc…
We investigate the linear growth function for the large scale structures of the universe considering modified Chaplygin gas as dark energy. Taking into account observational growth data for a given range of redshift from the Wiggle-Z measurements and rms mass fluctuations from Ly-$α$ measurements we numerically analyze cosmological models to constrain the parameters of the MCG. The observational data of Hubble parameter with redshift ($Z$) is also considered. The Wang-Steinhardt ansatz for growth index $γ$ and growth function $f$ (defined as $f=Ω_{m}^γ (a)$) are considered for the numerical an…
We study cosmological dynamics and late-time evolution of an extended induced gravity braneworld scenario. In this scenario, curvature effects are taken into account via the Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk action and there is also a Chaplygin gas component on the brane. We show that this model mimics an effective phantom behavior in a relatively wider range of redshifts than previously formulated models. It also provides a natural framework for smooth crossing of the phantom-divide line due to presence of the Chaplygin gas component on the brane. We confront the model with observational data fro…
We study a generalized version of Chaplygin gas as unified model of dark matter and dark energy. Using realistic theoretical models and the currently available observational data from the age of the universe, the expansion history based on the type Ia supernovae, the matter power spectrum, the cosmic microwave background radiation anisotropy power spectra, and the perturbation growth factor we put the unified model under observational test. As the model has only two free parameters in the flat Friedmann background [$Λ$CDM (cold dark matter) model has only one free parameter] we show that the m…
The present paper is devoted to find a new generalization of the generalized Chaplygin gas. Therefore, starting from the Hubble parameter associated to the Chaplygin scalar field and using some elliptic identities, the elliptic generalization is straightforward. Thus, all relevant quantities that drive inflation are calculated exactly. Finally, using the measurement on inflation from the Planck 2015 results, observational constraints on the parameters are given.
In this paper we study a quintessence cosmological model in which the dark energy component is considered to be the Generalized Chaplygin Gas and the curvature of the three-geometry is taken into account. Two parameters characterize this sort of fluid, the $ν$ and the $α$ parameters. We use different astronomical data for restricting these parameters. It is shown that the constraint $ν\lesssim α$ agrees enough well with the astronomical observations.
We study the nonlinear regime of Unified Dark Energy models, using Generalized Chaplygin Gas cosmologies as a representative example, and introduce a new parameter characterizing the level of small scale clustering in these scenarios. We show that viable Generalized Chaplygin Gas cosmologies, consistent with the most recent observational constraints, may be constructed for any value of the Generalized Chaplygin Gas parameter by considering models with a sufficiently high level of nonlinear clustering.
We present Cosmological models with modified Chaplygin gas (MCG) in the framework of Horava-Lifshitz (HL) theory of gravity both with and without detailed balance. The equation of state (EOS) for a MCG contains three unknown parameters namely, $A$, $α$, $B$. The allowed values of some of these parameters of the EOS are determined using the recent astrophysical and cosmological observational data. Using observational data from $H(z)-z$, BAO peak parameter, CMB shift parameter we study cosmologies in detailed-balance and beyond detailed-balance scenario. In this paper we take up the beyond detai…
We investigate the evolution of a FRW model fuelled by a modified Chaplygin gas with an equation of state $p = Aρ-\frac{B}{ρ^α}$. An attempt is made here to constrain the free parameters of MCG model through the wellknown contour plot technique using observational data. The permissible range of values of the pair of free parameters are determined to study the viability of cosmological models \emph{vis-a-vis} observational results. Aside from allowing the desirable feature of \emph{flip} of the sign of deceleration parameter we also find that the transition from the decelerating to the accelera…
We investigate observational constraints on the generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG) model as the unification of dark matter and dark energy from the latest observational data: the Union SNe Ia data, the observational Hubble data, the SDSS baryon acoustic peak and the five-year WMAP shift parameter. It is obtained that the best fit values of the GCG model parameters with their confidence level are $A_{s}=0.73^{+0.06}_{-0.06}$ ($1σ$) $^{+0.09}_{-0.09}$ $(2σ)$, $α=-0.09^{+0.15}_{-0.12}$ ($1σ$) $^{+0.26}_{-0.19}$ $(2σ)$. Furthermore in this model, we can see that the evolution of equation of state (EO…
The class of Chaplygin gas models regarded as a candidate of dark energy can be realized by a scalar field, which could drive the variation of the fine structure constant $α$ during the cosmic time. This phenomenon has been observed for almost ten years ago from the quasar absorption spectra and attracted many attentions. In this paper, we reconstruct the class of Chaplygin gas models to a kind of scalar fields and confront the resulting $Δα/α$ with the observational constraints. We found that if the present observational value of the equation of state of the dark energy was not exactly equal …
In this work we set observational constraints of the Superfluid Chaplygin gas model, which gives a unified description of the dark sector of the Universe as a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) that behaves as dark energy (DE) while it is in the ground state and as dark matter (DM) when it is in the excited state. We first show and perform the various steps leading to a form of the equations suitable for the observational tests to be carried out. Then, by using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) code, we constrain the model with a sample of cosmology-independent long gamma-ray bursts (LGRBs) calibr…

We model the dark sector of the cosmic substratum by a viscous fluid with an equation of state $p=-ζΘ$, where $Θ$ is the fluid-expansion scalar and $ζ$ is the coefficient of bulk viscosity for which we assume a dependence $ζ\propto ρ^ν$ on the energy density $ρ$. The homogeneous and isotropic background dynamics coincides with that of a generalized Chaplygin gas with equation of state $p = - A/ρ^α$. The perturbation dynamics of the viscous model, however, is intrinsically non-adiabatic and qualitatively different from the Chaplygin-gas case. In particular, it avoids short-scale instabilities a…
We investigate Holographic Dark Energy Correspondence of Interacting Generalized Chaplygin Gas model in the framework of compact Kaluza-Klein cosmology. The evolution of the modified holographic dark energy and the equation of state parameter is obtained here.Using the present observational value of density parameter a stable configuration is formed which accommodates Dark Energy. we note a connection between Dark Energy and Phantom field and have shown that Dark Energy might have evolved from a Phantom state in the past.
We have considered the FRW universe in loop quantum cosmology (LQC) model filled with the dark matter (perfect fluid with negligible pressure) and the modified Chaplygin gas (MCG) type dark energy. We present the Hubble parameter in terms of the observable parameters $Ω_{m0}$, $Ω_{x0}$ and $H_{0}$ with the redshift $z$ and the other parameters like $A$, $B$, $C$ and $α$. From Stern data set (12 points), we have obtained the bounds of the arbitrary parameters by minimizing the $χ^{2}$ test. The best-fit values of the parameters are obtained by 66%, 90% and 99% confidence levels. Next due to joi…
Both scalar fields and (generalized) Chaplygin gases have been widely used separately to characterize the dark sector of the Universe. Here we investigate the cosmological background dynamics for a mixture of both these components and quantify the fractional abundances that are admitted by observational data from supernovae of type Ia and from the evolution of the Hubble rate. Moreover, we study how the growth rate of (baryonic) matter perturbations is affected by the dark-sector perturbations.
Modified Chaplygin gas as an exotic fluid has been introduced in [34]. Essential features of the modified Chaplygin gas as a cosmological model are discussed. Observational constraints on the parameters of the model have been included. The relationship between the modified Chaplygin gas and a homogeneous minimally coupled scalar field are reevaluated by constructing its self-interacting potential. In addition, we study the role of the tachyonic field in the modified Chaplygin gas cosmological model and the mapping between scalar field and tachyonic field is also considered.
In this paper, we considered an inflationary model that effectively behaves as a modified Chaplygin gas in the context of quintessence cosmology. We reconstructed the inflaton potential bottom-up and using the recent observational data we fixed the free parameters of the model. We showed that the modified Chaplygin gas inspired model is suitable for both the early and the late time acceleration but has shortcomings between the two periods.
Considering perturbation growth in spherical Top-Hat model of structure formation in a generalized Chaplygin gas dominated universe, we want to study this scenario with a modified Chaplygin gas model. The evolution of background and collapsed region parameters are found for different cases. The stability of the model and the collapse time rate are considered in different cases. The turn-around redshifts are also computed; the results are in relatively good agreement with current observational data.
We propose a phenomenological model for the early universe where there is a smooth transition between an early "quintessence" phase and a radiation dominated era. The matter content is modelled by an appropriately modified Chaplygin gas for the early universe. We constrain the model observationally by mapping the primordial power spectrum of the scalar perturbations to the latest data of WMAP7. We compute as well the spectrum of the primordial gravitational waves as would be measured today. We show that the high frequencies region of the spectrum depends on the free parameter of the model and …
Unified cosmological models have received a lot of attention in astrophysics community for explaining both the dark matter and dark energy evolution. The Chaplygin cosmologies, a well known name in this group have been investigated matched with observations from different sources. Obviously, Chaplygin cosmologies have to obey restrictions in order to be consistent with the observational data. As a consequence, alternative unified models, differing from Chaplygin model, are of special interest. In the present work we consider a specific example of such a unified cosmological model, that is quan…
Motivated by two seminal models proposed to explain the Universe acceleration, this paper is devoted to study a hybrid model which is constructed through a generalized Chaplygin gas with the addition of a bulk viscosity. We call the model a Viscous Generalized Chaplygin Gas (VGCG) and its free parameters are constrained through several cosmological data like the Observational Hubble Parameter, Type Ia Supernovae, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations, Strong Lensing Systems, HII Galaxies and using Joint Bayesian analysis. In addition, we implement a Om-diagnostic to analyze the VGCC dynamics and its di…
We use the latest data to investigate observational constraints on the new generalized Chaplygin gas (NGCG) model. Using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method, we constrain the NGCG model with the type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) from Union2 set (557 data), the usual baryonic acoustic oscillation (BAO) observation from the spectroscopic Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data release 7 (DR7) galaxy sample, the cosmic microwave background (CMB) observation from the 7-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP7) results, the newly revised $H(z)$ data, as well as a value of $θ_{BAO} (z=0.55) = …
The Modified Chaplygin Gas (MCG) model belongs to the class of a unified models of dark energy (DE) and dark matter (DM). It is characterized by an equation of state (EoS) $p_c = Bρ- A/ρ^α$, where the case $B=0$ corresponds to the Generalized Chaplygin Gas (GCG) model. Using a perturbative analysis and power spectrum observational data we show that the MCG model is not a sucessful candidate for the cosmic medium unless $B=0$. In this case, it reduces to the usual GCG model.
We consider general mixtures of isocurvature and adiabatic cosmological perturbations. With a minimal assumption set consisting of the linearized Einstein equations and a primordial perfect fluid we derive the second-order action and its curvature variables. We also allow for varying equation of state and speed of sound profiles. The derivation is therefore carried out at the same level of generality that has been achieved for adiabatic modes before. As a result we find a new conserved super-horizon quantity and relate it to the adiabatically conserved curvature perturbation. Finally we demons…
We study cosmological models with modified Chaplygin gas (in short, MCG) to determine observational constraints on its EoS parameters. The observational data of the background and the growth tests are employed. The background test data namely, H(z)-z data, CMB shift parameter, Baryonic acoustic oscillations (BAO) peak parameter, SN Ia data are considered to study the dynamical aspects of the universe. The growth test data we employ here consists of the linear growth function for the large scale structures of the universe, models are explored assuming MCG as a candidate for dark energy. Conside…
We explore the possibility that the dark matter and dark energy are mimicked by a single fluid or by a single $k$-essence-like scalar field. The so called Chaplygin gas unified dark matter models can reproduce the observed matter power spectrum by adding a baryon component. It has been argued that the evolution of the baryon fluctuations is particularly favoured for the "superluminal" case where the sound speed of the Chaplygin gas exceeds the speed of light at late times, as well as for the models with the negligibly small sound speed. In this note we compute the integrated Sachs-Wolfe signal…
Warm inflationary universe models in the context of generalized chaplygin gas, modified chaplygin gas, generalized cosmic chaplygin gas are being studied. The dissipative coefficient of the form $Γ\propto T$, weak and strong dissipative regimes are being considered. We use quartic potential $\frac{λ_{*}ϕ^{4}}{4}$, which is ruled out by current data in cold inflation but in our models it is analyzed that it is in agreement with the WMAP$9$ and latest Planck data. In these scenarios, the power spectrum, spectral index, and tensor to scalar ratio are being examined under the slow roll approximati…
We investigate the role of bulk viscous pressure on the warm inflationary modified Chaplygin gas in brane-world framework in the presence of standard scalar field. We assume the intermediate inflationary scenario in strong dissipative regime and constructed the inflaton, potential, entropy density, slow-roll parameters, scalar and tensor power spectra, scalar spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio. We develop various trajectories such as $n_s - N$, $n_s - r$ and $n_s - α_s$ (where $n_s$ is the spectral index, $α_s$ is the running of spectral index, $N$ is the number of e-folds and $r$ is te…
In this work we study in detail a phenomenological generalization of the Chaplygin cosmological model, which we call as \textit{umami} Chaplygin model. We consider three different cosmological background scenarios in which our fluid can play three different roles: only as a dark energy component; as a dark matter and dark energy component; and as a dark plus baryonic matter and dark energy component. With such analysis we explore the possibility to unify the dark fluids under one single component within the context of General Relativity. We test this hypothesis against the main available data …
We use the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method to investigate a global constraints on the modified Chaplygin gas (MCG) model as the unification of dark matter and dark energy from the latest observational data: the Union2 dataset of type supernovae Ia (SNIa), the observational Hubble data (OHD), the cluster X-ray gas mass fraction, the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO), and the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data. In a flat universe, the constraint results for MCG model are, $Ω_{b}h^{2}=0.02263^{+0.00184}_{-0.00162}$ ($1σ$) $^{+0.00213}_{-0.00195}$ $(2σ)$, $B_{s}=0.7788^{+0.0736}_{-0.0723}$ ($1…
In this paper, we use the latest observations of quasars covering the redshift range of $0.04<z<5.1$ to investigate a series of Chaplygin gas models as candidates for unified dark matter and dark energy. Based on different combinations of available standard candle and standard ruler data, we put constraints on the generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG), modified Chaplygin gas (MCG), new generalized Chaplygin gas (NGCG) and viscous generalized Chaplygin gas (VGCG) models. Moreover, we apply Jensen-Shannon divergence (JSD), statefinder diagnostics, and the deviance information criterion (DIC) to distin…
A new diagnostic method, $Om$ is applied to generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG) model as the unification of dark matter and dark energy. On the basis of the recently observed data: the Union supernovae, the observational Hubble data, the SDSS baryon acoustic peak and the five-year WMAP shift parameter, we show the discriminations between GCG and $Λ$CDM model. Furthermore, it is calculated that the current equation of state of dark energy $w_{0de}=-0.964$ according to GCG model.
In this paper, we continue our previous work of studying viscous generalized Chaplygin gas (VGCG) as a unified dark fluid but including the bulk viscosity perturbation. By using the currently available cosmic observational data from SNLS3, BAO, HST and recently released Planck, we gain the constraint on bulk viscosity coefficient: $ζ_0=0.0000138_{- 0.0000105- 0.0000138- 0.0000138}^{+ 0.00000614+ 0.0000145+ 0.0000212}$ in $1, 2, 3σ$ regions respectively via Markov Chain Monte Carlo method. The result shows that when considering perturbation of bulk viscosity, the currently cosmic observations f…
We investigate cosmological scenarios of generalized Chaplygin gas in a universe governed by Horava-Lifshitz gravity. We consider both the detailed and non-detailed balance versions of the gravitational background, and we include the baryonic matter and radiation sectors. We use observational data from Type Ia Supernovae (SNIa), Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO), and Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), along with requirements of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN), to constrain the parameters of the model, and we provide the corresponding likelihood contours. We deduce that the present scenario is …
We have considered flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) model of the universe and reviewed the modified Chaplygin gas as the fluid source. Associated with the scalar field model, we have determined the Hubble parameter as a generating function in terms of the scalar field. Instead of hyperbolic function, we have taken Jacobi elliptic function and Abel function in the generating function and obtained modified Chaplygin-Jacobi gas (MCJG) and modified Chaplygin-Abel gas (MCAG) equation of states, respectively. Next, we have assumed that the universe filled in dark matter, radiation, and dark ene…
We use the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method to investigate a global constraints on the generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG) model as the unification of dark matter and dark energy from the latest observational data: the Constitution dataset of type supernovae Ia (SNIa), the observational Hubble data (OHD), the cluster X-ray gas mass fraction, the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO), and the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data. In a non-flat universe, the constraint results for GCG model are, $Ω_{b}h^{2}=0.0235^{+0.0021}_{-0.0018}$ ($1σ$) $^{+0.0028}_{-0.0022}$ $(2σ)$, $Ω_{k}=0.0035^{+0.0172}_{-0.01…
Unified Dark Matter models describe Dark Matter and Dark Energy as a single entity which is, in the simplest case, embodied in a perfect barotropic fluid. It is a well-established fact that small adiabatic perturbations of Unified Dark Matter have an evolution characterised by oscillations and decay which provide predictions on the Cosmic Background Radiation anisotropies which are in poor agreement with observation. In this paper we investigate the generalised Chaplygin gas and we find that the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect excludes the model for $10^{-3} < α< 350$. We discuss the implication…
A decomposed generalised Chaplygin gas (gCg) with energy flux from dark energy to dark matter, represented by a negative value for the gas parameter $α$, is shown to alleviate the tension between EDGES data and the cosmological standard model. Using EDGES data and employing a Bayesian statistical analysis, the agreement with the standard model is only marginal. However, if $α$ is negative enough the gCg fits remarkably well the data, even in combination with SNe Ia datasets. On the other hand, when the CMB and BAO acoustic scales are included the preferred value for $α$ is near zero, implying …
Any unified dark matter cosmology can be decomposed into dark matter interacting with vacuum energy, without introducing any additional degrees of freedom. We present observational constraints on an interacting vacuum plus dark energy corresponding to a generalised Chaplygin gas cosmology. We consider two distinct models for the interaction leading to either a barotropic equation of state or dark matter that follows geodesics, corresponding to a rest-frame sound speed equal to the adiabatic sound speed or zero sound speed, respectively. For the barotropic model, the most stringent constraint o…
We propose a new scenario for the early universe where there is a smooth transition between an early de Sitter-like phase and a radiation dominated era. In this model, the matter content is modelled by a new type of generalised Chaplygin gas for the early universe, with an underlying scalar field description. We study the gravitational waves generated by the quantum fluctuations. In particular, we calculate the gravitational wave power spectrum, as it would be measured today, following the method of the Bogoliubov coefficients. We show that the high frequencies region of the spectrum depends s…
A modified Chaplygin gas model (MCG), $ρ_{MCG}/ρ_{MCG0}=[B_{s}+(1-B_{s})a^{-3(1+B)(1+α)}]^{1/(1+α)}$, as a unified dark matter model and dark energy model is constrained by using current available cosmic observational data points which include type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillation and the seventh year full WMAP data points. As a contrast to the consideration in the literatures, we {\it do not} separate the MCG into two components, i.e. dark mater and dark energy component, but we take it as a whole energy component-a unified dark sector. By using Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, a ti…
We study the non-linear spherical "top hat" collapse for Chaplygin and viscous unified cosmologies. The term unified refers to models where dark energy and dark matter are replaced by one single component. For the generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG) we extend previous results of [R. A. A. Fernandes {\it et al}. Physical Review D 85, 083501 (2012)]. We discuss the differences at non-linear level between the GCG with $α=0$ and the $Λ$CDM model. We show that both are indeed different. The bulk viscous model which differs from the GCG due to the existence of non-adiabatic perturbations is also studied…
We investigate a model of interacting dark matter and dark energy given by a modified holographic Ricci cutoff in a spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) space-time. We consider a nonlinear interaction consisting of a significant rational function of the total energy density and its first derivative homogeneous of degree one and show that the effective one-fluid obeys the equation of state of a relaxed Chaplygin gas. So that, the universe is dominated by pressureless dark matter at early times and undergoes an accelerated expansion in the far future driven by a strong negative pressu…
We investigate observational constraints on the generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG) model including the gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) at high redshift obtained directly from the Union2 type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) set. By using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we constrain the GCG model with the cosmology-independent GRBs, as well as the Union2 set, the cosmic microwave background (CMB) observation from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP7) result, and the baryonic acoustic oscillation (BAO) observation from the spectroscopic Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data release 7 (DR7) galaxy samp…
In this Letter, a modified Chaplygin gas (MCG) model of unifying dark energy and dark matter with the exotic equation of state $p_{MCG}=Bρ_{MCG} -\frac A{ρ_{MCG}^α}$ is constrained from recently observed data: the 182 Gold SNe Ia, the 3-year WMAP and the SDSS baryon acoustic peak. It is shown that the best fit value of the three parameters ($B$,$B_{s}$,$α$) in MCG model are (-0.085,0.822,1.724). Furthermore, we find the best fit $w(z)$ crosses -1 in the past and the present best fit value $w(0)=-1.114<-1$, and the $1σ$ confidence level of $w(0)$ is $-0.946\leq w(0)\leq-1.282$. Finally, we find…
Unified dark matter cosmologies economically combine missing matter and energy in a single fluid. Of these models, the standard Chaplygin gas is theoretically motivated, but faces problems in explaining large scale structure if linear perturbations are directly imposed on the homogeneous fluid. However, early formation of a clustered component of small halos is sufficient (and necessary) for hierarchical clustering to proceed in a CDM-like component as in the standard scenario, with the remaining homogeneous component acting as dark energy. We examine this possibility. A linear analysis shows …
In the Friedmann cosmology the deceleration of the expansion $q$ plays a fundamental role. We derive the deceleration as a function of redshift $q(z)$ in two scenarios: $Λ$CDM model and modified Chaplygin gas ($MCG$) model. The function for the $MCG$ model is then fitted to the cosmological data in order to obtain the cosmological parameters that minimize $χ^2$. We use the Fisher matrix to construct the covariance matrix of our parameters and reconstruct the q(z) function. We use Supernovae Ia, WMAP5 and BAO measurements to obtain the observational constraints. We determined the present accele…
We study the late-time evolution of the Universe where dark energy (DE) is parametrized by a modified generalized Chaplygin gas (mGCG) on top of cold dark matter (CDM). We also take into account the radiation content of the Universe. In this context, the late stage of the evolution of the universe refers to the epoch where CDM is already clustered into inhomogeneously distributed discrete structures (galaxies, groups and clusters of galaxies). Under these conditions, the mechanical approach is an adequate tool to study the Universe deep inside the cell of uniformity. To be more accurate, we st…
We review the difficulties of the generalized Chaplygin gas model to fit observational data, due to the tension between background and perturbative tests. We argue that such issues may be circumvented by means of a self-interacting scalar field representation of the model. However, this proposal seems to be successful only if the self-interacting scalar field has a non-canonical form. The latter can be implemented in Rastall's theory of gravity, which is based on a modification of the usual matter conservation law. We show that, besides its application to the generalized Chaplygin gas model, o…
We make a comparison for thirteen dark energy (DE) models by using current cosmological observations, including type Ia supernova, baryon acoustic oscillations, and cosmic microwave background. To perform a systematic and comprehensive analysis, we consider three statistics methods of SNIa, including magnitude statistic (MS), flux statistic (FS), and improved flux statistic (IFS), as well as two kinds of BAO data. In addition, Akaike information criteria (AIC) and Bayesian information criteria (BIC) are used to assess the worth of each model. We find that: (1) The thirteen models can be divide…
We investigate the cosmological perturbation dynamics for a universe consisting of pressureless baryonic matter and a viscous fluid, the latter representing a unified model of the dark sector. In the homogeneous and isotropic background the \textit{total} energy density of this mixture behaves as a generalized Chaplygin gas. The perturbations of this energy density are intrinsically non-adiabatic and source relative entropy perturbations. The resulting baryonic matter power spectrum is shown to be compatible with the 2dFGRS and SDSS (DR7) data. A joint statistical analysis, using also Hubble-f…
Motivated by several observational and theoretical developments concerning the variability of Newton's gravitational constant with time $G(t)$, we calculate the varying $G$ correction to the statefinder parameters for four models of dark energy namely interacting dark energy, holographic dark energy, new-agegraphic dark energy and generalized Chaplygin gas.
Non-adiabatic pressure perturbations naturally occur in models of inflation consisting of more than one scalar field. The amount of non-adiabatic pressure present at the end of inflation can have observational consequences through changes in the curvature perturbation, the generation of vorticity and subsequently the sourcing of B-mode polarisation. In this work, based on a presentation at the 13th Marcel Grossmann Meeting, we give a very brief overview of non-adiabatic pressure perturbations in multi-field inflationary models and describe our recent calculation of the spectrum of isocurvature…
