In this paper, we present a general framework for solving stochastic functional differential equations in infinite dimensions in the sense of martingale solutions, which can be applied to a large class of SPDE with finite delays, e.g. $d$-dimensional stochastic fractional Navier-Stokes equations with delays, $d$-dimensional stochastic reaction-diffusion equations with delays, $d$-dimensional stochastic porous media equations with delays. Moreover, under local monotonicity conditions for the nonlinear term we obtain the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to SPDE with delays.
Consider the graph obtained by superposition of an independent pair of uniform infinite non-crossing perfect matchings of the set of integers. We prove that this graph contains at most one infinite path. Several motivations are discussed.
We prove uniqueness in law for a class of parabolic stochastic partial differential equations in an interval driven by a functional A(u) of the temperature u times a space-time white noise. The functional A(u) is Hölder continuous in u of order greater than 1/2. Our method involves looking at an associated system of infinite-dimensional stochastic differential equations and we obtain a uniqueness result for such systems.
We develop a general technique to prove uniqueness of solutions for Fokker--Planck equations on infinite dimensional spaces. We illustrate this method by implementing it for Fokker--Planck equations in Hilbert spaces with Kolmogorov operators with irregular coefficients and both non-degenerate or degenerate second order part.
We consider a locally uniformly strictly elliptic second order partial differential operator in $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\ge 2$, with low regularity assumptions on its coefficients, as well as an associated Hunt process and semigroup. The Hunt process is known to solve a corresponding stochastic differential equation that is pathwise unique. In this situation, we study the relation of invariance, infinitesimal invariance, recurrence, transience, conservativeness and $L^r$-uniqueness, and present sufficient conditions for non-existence of finite infinitesimally invariant measures as well as finite inv…
In this paper, we alternately obtain the almost sure uniqueness of the infinite open cluster in bond percolation in $\mathbb{Z}^d, d \geq 2,$ without requiring the use of ergodicity of translation action. If $N$ denotes the number of infinite open clusters, we use the Burton-Keane argument to get $N \in \{0,1,2\}$ a.s. and then use a pivotal edges argument to obtain that $N \in \{0,1\}$ a.s.
Strong and Markov uniqueness problems in $L^2$ for Dirichlet operators on rigged Hilbert spaces are studied. An analytic approach based on a--priori estimates is used. The extension of the problem to the $L^p$-setting is discussed. As a direct application essential self--adjointness and strong uniqueness in $L^p$ is proved for the generator (with initial domain the bounded smooth cylinder functions) of the stochastic quantization process for Euclidean quantum field theory in finite volume $Λ\subset \R^2$.
Consider the stochastic differential equation $\mathrm dX_t = -A X_t \,\mathrm dt + f(t, X_t) \,\mathrm dt + \mathrm dB_t$ in a (possibly infinite-dimensional) separable Hilbert space, where $B$ is a cylindrical Brownian motion and $f$ is a just measurable, bounded function. If the components of $f$ decay to 0 in a faster than exponential way we establish path-by-path uniqueness for mild solutions of this stochastic differential equation. This extends A. M. Davie's result from $\mathbb R^d$ to Hilbert space-valued stochastic differential equations.
We consider the supercritical oriented percolation model. Let ${\fK}$ be all the percolation points. For each $u\in {\fK}$, we write $γ_u$ as its right-most path. Let $G=\cup_u γ_u$. In this paper, we show that $G$ is a single tree with only one topological end. We also present a relationship between ${\fK}$ and $G$ and construct a bijection between ${\fK}$ and $\Z$ using the preorder traversal algorithm. Through applications of this fundamental graph property, we show the uniqueness of an infinite oriented cluster by ignoring finite vertices.
We consider the model of random interlacements on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ introduced in Sznitman [Vacant set of random interlacements and percolation (2007) preprint]. For this model, we prove the uniqueness of the infinite component of the vacant set. As a consequence, we derive the continuity in $u$ of the probability that the origin belongs to the infinite component of the vacant set at level $u$ in the supercritical phase $u<u_*$.
The existence-uniqueness theory for solutions to stochastic dynamic systems is always a significant theme and has received a huge attention. The objective of this article is to study the mentioned theory for stochastic functional differential equations (SFDEs) driven by G-Lévy process. The existence-uniqueness theorem for solutions to SFDEs driven by G-Lévy process has been determined. The error estimation between the exact solution and Picard approximate solutions has been shown. In addition, the exponential estimate has been derived.
A 1-2 model configuration is a subset of edges of the hexagonal lattice such that each vertex is incident to one or two edges. We prove that for any translation-invariant Gibbs measure of 1-2 model, almost surely the infinite homogeneous cluster is unique.
In this paper, we develop a general methodology to prove weak uniqueness for stochastic differential equations with coefficients depending on some path-functionals of the process. As an extension of the technique developed by Bass \& Perkins [BP09] in the standard diffusion case, the proposed methodology allows one to deal with processes whose probability laws are singular with respect to the Lebesgue measure. To illustrate our methodology, we prove weak existence and uniqueness in two examples : a diffusion process with coefficients depending on its running symmetric local time and a diffusio…
We provide sufficient conditions on the coefficients of a stochastic functional differential equation with bounded memory driven by Brownian motion which guarantee existence and uniqueness of a maximal local and global strong solution for each initial condition. Our results extend those of previous works. For local existence and uniqueness, we only require the coefficients to be continuous and to satisfy a one-sided local Lipschitz (or monotonicity) condition. In an appendix we formulate and prove four lemmas which may be of independent interest: three of them can be viewed as rather general s…
In a statistical mechanics model with unbounded spins, we prove uniqueness of the Gibbs measure under various assumptions on finite volume functional inequalities. We follow the approach of G. Royer (1999) and obtain uniqueness by showing convergence properties of a Glauber-Langevin dynamics. The result was known when the measures on the box $[-n,n]^d$ (with free boundary conditions) satisfied the same logarithmic Sobolev inequality. We generalize this in two directions: either the constants may be allowed to grow sub-linearly in the diameter, or we may suppose a weaker inequality than log-Sob…
We show the pathwise uniqueness for stochastic partial differential equation driven by a cylindrical $α$-stable process with Hölder continuous drift, thus obtaining an infinite dimensional generalization of the result of Priola [Osaka J. Math., 2012] in the case $H=\mathbb{R}^d$. The proof is based on an infinite dimensional Kolmogorov equation with non-local operator.
We prove pathwise (hence strong) uniqueness of solutions to stochastic evolution equations in Hilbert spaces with merely measurable bounded drift and cylindrical Wiener noise, thus generalizing Veretennikov's fundamental result on $\mathbb{R}^d$ to infinite dimensions. Because Sobolev regularity results implying continuity or smoothness of functions do not hold on infinite-dimensional spaces, we employ methods and results developed in the study of Malliavin-Sobolev spaces in infinite dimensions. The price we pay is that we can prove uniqueness for a large class, but not for every initial distr…
In this work we study the long time behavior of nonlinear stochastic functional-differential equations in Hilbert spaces. In particular, we start with establishing the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions. We proceed with deriving a priory uniform in time bounds for the solutions in the appropriate Hilbert spaces. These bounds enable us to establish the existence of invariant measure based on Krylov-Bogoliubov theorem on the tightness of the family of measures. Finally, under certain assumptions on nonlinearities, we establish the uniqueness of invariant measures.
We prove that joint uniqueness in law and the existence of a strong solution imply pathwise uniqueness for variational solutions to stochastic partial differential equations of the form \begin{align*} \text{d}X_t=b(t,X)\text{d}t+σ(t,X)\text{d}W_t, \,\,\,t\geq 0, \end{align*} and show that for such equations uniqueness in law is equivalent to joint uniqueness in law. Here $W$ is a cylindrical Wiener process in a separable Hilbert space $U$ and the equation is considered in a Gelfand triple $V \subseteq H \subseteq E$, where $H$ is some separable (infinite-dimensional) Hilbert space. This genera…
The Burton--Keane theorem for the almost-sure uniqueness of infinite clusters is a landmark of stochastic geometry. Let $μ$ be a translation-invariant probability measure with the finite-energy property on the edge-set of a $d$-dimensional lattice. The theorem states that the number $I$ of infinite components satisfies $μ(I\in\{0,1\})=1$. The proof is an elegant and minimalist combination of zero--one arguments in the presence of amenability. The method may be extended (not without difficulty) to other problems including rigidity and entanglement percolation, as well as to the Gibbs theory of …
This paper considers some the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions of stochastic neutral functional differential equations. The conditions on the neutral functional relax those commonly used to establish the existence and uniqueness of solutions of NSFDEs for many important classes of functional, and parallel the conditions used to ensure existence and uniqueness of solutions of related deterministic neutral equations. Exponential estimates on the almost sure and p--th mean rate of growth of solutions under the weaker existence conditions are also given.
We show existence, uniqueness, and directedness properties for infinite geodesics in the FPP model. After giving the fundamental definitions, we describe results by Newman and collaborators giving existence and uniqueness of directed geodesics under an unproven curvature assumption. We then give two proofs of the existence of at least two infinite geodesics under no unproven assumptions. In the final two sections, we give proofs of directedness statements for infinite geodesics using more recent methods which give information even under no unproven assumptions and prove a generalized uniquenes…
In this paper we establish a sharp non-uniqueness result for stochastic $d$-dimensional ($d\geq2$) incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. First, for every divergence free initial condition in $L^2$ we show existence of infinite many global in time probabilistically strong and analytically weak solutions in the class $L^α\big(Ω,L^p_tL^\infty\big)$ for any $1\leq p<2,α\geq1$. Second, we prove the above result is sharp in the sense that pathwise uniqueness holds in the class of $L^p_tL^q$ for some $p\in[2,\infty],q\in(2,\infty]$ such that $\frac2{p}+\frac{d}{q}\leq1$, which is a stochastic versi…
In this paper we obtain restricted Markov uniqueness of the generator and uniqueness of probabilistically weak solutions for the stochastic quantization problem in both the finite and infinite volume case by clarifying the precise relation between the solutions to the stochastic quantization problem obtained by the Dirichlet form approach and those obtained in [DD03] and in [MW15]. We prove that the solution $X-Z$, where $X$ is obtained by the Dirichlet form approach in [AR91] and $Z$ is the corresponding O-U process, satisfies the corresponding shifted equation (see (1.4) below). Moreover, we…
By using the Picard iteration scheme, this article establishes the existence and uniqueness theory for solutions to stochastic functional differential equations driven by G-Browniain motion. Assuming the monotonicity conditions, the boundedness and existence-uniqueness results of solutions have been derived. The error estimation between Picard approximate solution $y^k(t)$ and exact solution $y(t)$ has been determined. The $L^2_G$ and exponential estimates have been obtained. The theory has been further generalized to weak monotonicity conditions. The existence, uniqueness and exponential esti…
We present general existence and uniqueness results for marked models with pair interactions, exemplified through Gibbs point processes on path space. More precisely, we study a class of infinite-dimensional diffusions under Gibbsian interactions, in the context of marked point configurations: the starting points belong to $\mathbb{R}^d$, and the marks are the paths of Langevin diffusions. We use the entropy method to prove existence of an infinite-volume Gibbs point process and use cluster expansion tools to provide an explicit activity domain in which uniqueness holds.
This paper is an up-to-date introduction to the problem of uniqueness versus non-uniqueness of infinite clusters for percolation on ${\mathbb{Z}}^d$ and, more generally, on transitive graphs. For iid percolation on ${\mathbb{Z}}^d$, uniqueness of the infinite cluster is a classical result, while on certain other transitive graphs uniqueness may fail. Key properties of the graphs in this context turn out to be amenability and nonamenability. The same problem is considered for certain dependent percolation models -- most prominently the Fortuin--Kasteleyn random-cluster model -- and in situation…
The Dirichlet forms related to various infinite systems of interacting Brownian motions are studied. For a given random point field $ μ$, there exist two natural infinite-volume Dirichlet forms $ (\mathcal{E}^{\mathsf{upr}},\mathcal{D}^{\mathsf{upr}})$ and $(\mathcal{E}^{\mathsf{lwr}},\mathcal{D}^{\mathsf{lwr}})$ on $ L^2(\mathsf{S} ,μ) $ describing interacting Brownian motions each with unlabeled equilibrium state $ μ$. The former is a decreasing limit of a scheme of such finite-volume Dirichlet forms, and the latter is an increasing limit of another scheme of such finite-volume Dirichlet for…
In this paper we consider the problem of determining the law of binary stochastic processes from transition kernels depending on the whole past. These kernels are linear in the past values of the process. They are allowed to assume values close to both 0 and 1, preventing the application of usual results on uniqueness. More precisely we give sufficient conditions for uniqueness and non-uniqueness. In the former case a perfect simulation algorithm is also given.
We prove pathwise uniqueness for solutions of parabolic stochastic pde's with multiplicative white noise if the coefficient is Hölder continuous of index $γ>3/4$. The method of proof is an infinite-dimensional version of the Yamada-Watanabe argument for ordinary stochastic differential equations.
In this paper we study one dimensional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) with random terminal time not necessarily bounded or finite when the generator F(t,Y,Z) has a quadratic growth in Z. We provide existence and uniqueness of a bounded solution of such BSDEs and, in the case of infinite horizon, regular dependence on parameters. The obtained results are then applied to prove existence and uniqueness of a mild solution to elliptic partial differential equations in Hilbert spaces.
Random-cluster measures on infinite regular trees are studied in conjunction with a general type of `boundary condition', namely an equivalence relation on the set of infinite paths of the tree. The uniqueness and non-uniqueness of random-cluster measures are explored for certain classes of equivalence relations. In proving uniqueness, the following problem concerning branching processes is encountered and answered. Consider bond percolation on the family-tree $T$ of a branching process. What is the probability that every infinite path of $T$, beginning at its root, contains some vertex which …
We give an example of a reflected diffferential equation which may have infinitely many solutions if the driving signal is rough enough (e.g. of infinite $p$-variation, for some $p>2$). For this equation, we identify a sharp condition on the modulus of continuity of the signal under which uniqueness holds. Lévy's modulus for Brownian motion turns out to be a boundary case. We further show that in our example, non-uniqueness holds almost surely when the driving signal is a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H < \frac{1}{2}$. The considered equation is driven by a two-dimensional signa…
We develop a martingale approach for a class of singular stochastic PDEs of Burgers type (including fractional and multi-component Burgers equations) by constructing a domain for their infinitesimal generators. It was known that the domain must have trivial intersection with the usual cylinder test functions, and to overcome this difficulty we import some ideas from paracontrolled distributions to an infinite dimensional setting in order to construct a domain of controlled functions. Using the new domain, we are able to prove existence and uniqueness for the Kolmogorov backward equation and th…
A stochastic differential equation with infinite memory is considered. The drift coefficient of the equation is a nonlinear functional of the past history of the solution. Sufficient conditions for existence and uniqueness of stationary solution are given.
We prove pathwise uniqueness for a class of stochastic differential equations (SDE) on a Hilbert space with cylindrical Wiener noise, whose nonlinear drift parts are sums of the sub-differential of a convex function and a bounded part. This generalizes a classical result by one of the authors to infinite dimensions. Our results also generalize and improve recent results by N. Champagnat and P. E. Jabin, proved in finite dimensions, in the case where their diffusion matrix is constant and nondegenerate and their weakly differentiable drift is the (weak) gradient of a convex function. We also pr…
This paper establishes results on the existence and uniqueness of solutions to McKean-Vlasov equations, also called mean-field stochastic differential equations, in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space setting with irregular drift. Here, McKean-Vlasov equations with additive noise are considered where the driving noise is cylindrical (fractional) Brownian motion. The existence and uniqueness of weak solutions are established for drift coefficients that are merely measurable, bounded, and continuous in the law variable. In particular, the drift coefficient is allowed to be singular in the spat…
When the underlying stock price is a strict local martingale process under an equivalent local martingale measure, Black-Scholes PDE associated with an European option may have multiple solutions. In this paper, we study an approximation for the smallest hedging price of such an European option. Our results show that a class of rebate barrier options can be used for this approximation. Among of them, a specific rebate option is also provided with a continuous rebate function, which corresponds to the unique classical solution of the associated parabolic PDE. Such a construction makes existing …
We consider a one-dimensional lattice system of unbounded, real-valued spins with arbitrary strong, quadratic, finite-range interaction. We show the equivalence of correlations of the grand canonical (gce) and the canonical ensemble (ce). As a corollary we obtain that the correlations of the ce decay exponentially plus a volume correction term. Then, we use the decay of correlation to verify a conjecture that the infinite-volume Gibbs measure of the ce is unique on a one-dimensional lattice. For the equivalence of correlations, we modify a method that was recently used by the authors to show t…
We show that when percolation produces infinitely many infinite clusters on a Cayley graph, one cannot distinguish the clusters from each other by any invariantly defined property. This implies that uniqueness of the infinite cluster is equivalent to non-decay of connectivity (a.k.a. long-range order). We then derive applications concerning uniqueness in Kazhdan groups and in wreath products, and inequalities for $p_u$.
We study existence and uniqueness of solutions for second order ordinary stochastic differential equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions on a given interval. In the first part of the paper we provide sufficient conditions to ensure pathwise uniqueness, extending some known results. In the second part we show sufficient conditions to have the weaker concept of uniqueness in law and provide a significant example. Such conditions involve a linearized equation and are of different type with respect to the ones which are usually imposed to study pathwise uniqueness. This seems to be the first …
