The Deng-Fan potential is used to discuss the reliability of the improved Greene-Aldrich approximation and the factorization recipe of Badawi et al.'s [17] for the central attractive/repulsive core. The factorization recipe is shown to be a more reliable approximation and is used to obtain the ro-vibrational energies for the lithium dimer. For each vibrational state only a limited number of the rotational levels are found to be supported by the lithium dimer.
Curvilinear kinetic energy models are developed for variational nuclear motion computations including the inter- and the low-frequency intra-molecular degrees of freedom of the formic acid dimer. The coupling of the inter- and intra-molecular modes is studied by solving the vibrational Schrödinger equation for a series of vibrational models, from two up to ten active vibrational degrees of freedom by selecting various combinations of active modes and constrained coordinate values. Vibrational states, nodal assignment, and infrared vibrational intensity information is computed using the the ful…
Currently available noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices are limited by the number of qubits that can be used for quantum chemistry calculations on molecules. We show herein that the number of qubits required for simulations on a quantum computer can be reduced by limiting the number of orbitals in the active space. Thus, we have utilized ansätze that approximate exact classical matrix eigenvalue decomposition methods (Full Configuration Interaction). Such methods are appropriate for computations with the Variational Quantum Eigensolver algorithm to perform computational investigati…
We report state-of-the-art ab initio calculations of the potential energy curve for the $a^3Σ_u^+$ state of the lithium dimer conducted to achieve spectroscopic accuracy ($<$1cm$^{-1}$) without any prior adjustment to fit the corresponding experimental data. The nonrelativistic clamped-nuclei component of the interaction energy is calculated with a composite method involving six-electron coupled cluster and full configuration interaction theories combined with basis sets of Slater-type orbitals ranging in quality from double- to sextuple-zeta. To go beyond the nonrelativistic Born-Oppenheimer …
We calculate the potential energy curves, the permanent dipole moment curves, and the lifetimes of the ground and excited vibrational states of the heteronuclear alkali dimers XY (X, Y = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) in the X1Σ+ electronic state using the coupled cluster with singles doubles and triples (CCSDT) method. All-electron quadruple-ζ basis sets with additional core functions are used for Li and Na, and small-core relativistic effective core potentials with quadruple-ζ quality basis sets are used for K, Rb and Cs. The inclusion of the coupled cluster non-perturbative triple excitations is shown …
The infrared absorption spectrum of the protonated water dimer (H5O2+) is simulated in full dimensionality (15D) in the spectral range 0-4000 cm-1. The calculations are performed using the Multiconfiguration Time-Dependent Hartree (MCTDH) method for propagation of wavepackets. All the fundamentals and several overtones of the vibrational motion are computed. The spectrum of H5O2+ is shaped to a large extent by couplings of the proton-transfer motion to large amplitude fluxional motions of the water molecules, water bending and water-water stretch motions. These couplings are identified and dis…
In recent years, machine learning potentials (MLP) for atomistic simulations have attracted a lot of attention in chemistry and materials science. Many new approaches have been developed with the primary aim to transfer the accuracy of electronic structure calculations to large condensed systems containing thousands of atoms. In spite of these advances, the reliability of modern MLPs in reproducing the subtle details of the multi-dimensional potential-energy surface is still difficult to assess for such systems. On the other hand, moderately sized systems enabling the application of tools for …
The fundamental O-D stretch region (2600 - 2800 cm-1) of the fully deuterated water dimer, (D2O)2, is studied using a pulsed supersonic slit jet source and a tunable optical parametric oscillator source. Relatively high spectral resolution (0.002 cm-1) enables all six dimer tunneling components to be observed, in most cases, for the acceptor asymmetric O-D stretch, the donor free O-D stretch, and the donor bound O-D stretch vibrations. The dominant acceptor switching tunneling splittings are observed to decrease moderately in the excited O-D stretch states, to roughly 75% of their ground state…
In 2D electronic spectroscopy studies, long-lived quantum beats have recently been observed in photosynthetic systems, and it has been suggested that the beats are produced by quantum mechanically mixed electronic and vibrational states. Concerning the electronic-vibrational quantum mixtures, the impact of protein-induced fluctuations was examined by calculating the 2D electronic spectra of a weakly coupled dimer with vibrational modes in the resonant condition [J. Chem. Phys. 142, 212403 (2015)]. This analysis demonstrated that quantum mixtures of the vibronic resonance are rather robust unde…
We have implemented vibronic dynamics for simulations of the third order coherent response of electronic dimers. In the present communication we provide the full and detailed description of the dynamical model, recently used for simulations of chlorophyll-carotenoid dyads, terylene dimers, or hypericin. We allow for explicit vibronic level structure, by including selected vibrational modes into a "system". Bath dynamics include the Landau-Teller vibrational relaxation, electronic dephasing, and nonlinear vibronic (to bath) coupling. Simulations combine effects of transport and dephasing betwee…
The complex electronic structure and unusual potential energy curve of the chromium dimer have fascinated scientists for decades, with agreement between theory and experiment so far elusive. Here, we present a new ab initio simulation of the potential energy curve and vibrational spectrum that significantly improves on all earlier estimates. Our data support a shift in earlier experimental assignments of a cluster of vibrational frequencies by one quantum number. The new vibrational assignment yields an experimentally derived potential energy curve in quantitative agreement with theory across …
The vibrational dynamics of formic acid monomer (FAM) and dimer (FAD) is investigated from machine-learned potential energy surfaces at the MP2 (PES$_{\rm MP2}$) and transfer-learned (PES$_{\rm TL}$) to the CCSD(T) levels of theory. The normal modes and anharmonic frequencies of all modes below 2000 cm$^{-1}$ agree favourably with experiment whereas the OH-stretch mode is challenging for FAM and FAD from normal mode analyses and finite-temperature MD simulations. VPT2 calculations on PES$_{\rm TL}$ for FAM reproduce the experimental OH frequency to within 22 cm$^{-1}$. For FAD the VPT2 calcula…
A very accurate, (HF)$_2$ potential energy surface (PES) due to Huang et al. (J. Chem. Phys., 150, 154302 (2019)) is used to calculate the energy levels of the HF dimer by solving the nuclear-motion Schrödinger equation using variational program WAVR4. Calculations on an extended range of rotational states show very good agreement with experimental data. In particular the known empirical rotational constants for the ground and some observed excited vibrational states are reproduced with an accuracy of about 50 MHz. This level of accuracy is shown to extend to higher excited inter-molecular vib…
Quantum-dynamical full-dimensional (15D) calculations are reported for the protonated water dimer (H5O2+) using the multiconfiguration time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) method. The dynamics is described by curvilinear coordinates. The expression of the kinetic energy operator in this set of coordinates is given and its derivation, following the polyspherical method, is discussed. The PES employed is that of Huang et al. [JCP, 122, 044308, (2005)]. A scheme for the representation of the potential energy surface (PES) is discussed which is based on a high dimensional model representation scheme (cu…
Within the framework of non-relativistic quantum mechanics, the ro-vibrational energy spectra of the improved deformed exponential-type potential model are obtained using the Greene-Aldrich approximation scheme and an appropriate coordinate transformation. With the help of the energy spectra, analytical expressions of the vibrational partition function and other thermodynamic functions are derived by employing the Poisson summation formula. These thermodynamic functions are studied for the electronic states of hydrogen dimer, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dimer and lithium hydride diatomic molecul…
A comparative study of the effect of a static homogeneous electric field on the rovibrational spectra of several polar dimers in their $\textrm{X}^1Σ^+$ electronic ground state is performed. Focusing upon the rotational ground state within each vibrational band, results for energies and various expectation values are presented. For moderate field strengths the electric field-induced energy shifts, orientation, alignment, and angular motion hybridization are analyzed up to high vibrational excitations close to the dissociation threshold.
Ab initio quantum chemistry calculations are performed for the mixed alkali triatomic system. Global minima of the ground and first excited doublet states of the trimer are found and Born-Oppenheimer potential energy surfaces of the Li atom interacting with the LiCs molecule were calculated for these states. The lithium atom is placed at various distances and bond angles from the lithium-caesium dimer. Three-body nonadditive forces of the Li$_2$Cs molecule in the global minimum are investigated. Dimer-atom interactions are found to be strongly attractive and may be important in the experiments…
The binding energies of argon dimer are calculated by solving the homogeneous Lippmann-Schwinger integral equation in momentum space. Our numerical analysis using two models of argon-argon interaction developed by Patkowski {\it et al.} confirms not only the eight argon dimer vibrational levels of the ground state of argon dimer (i.e. for $j=0$) predicted by other groups but also provides a very precise means for determining the binding energy of the ninth state which its value is a matter of discussion. Our calculations have been also extended to states with higher rotational quantum number $…
Polarisation labelling spectroscopy technique was employed to study the 3$^{1}Π_{u}$ state of Cs$_2$ molecule. The main equlibrium constants are $T_e=20684.60$cm$^{-1}$, $ω_e=30.61$cm$^{-1}$ and $R_e=5.27$Å. Vibrational levels $v=4-35$ of the 3$^{1}Π_{u}$ state were found to be subject to strong perturbations by the neighbouring electronic states. Energies of 3094 rovibronic levels of the perturbed complex were determined.
We thoroughly investigate vibrational quantum dynamics of dimers attached to He droplets motivated by recent measurements with K-2 [1]. For those femtosecond pump-probe experiments, crucial observed features are not reproduced by gas phase calculations but agreement is found using a description based on dissipative quantum dynamics, as briefly shown in [2]. Here we present a detailed study of the influence of possible effects induced by the droplet. The helium droplet causes electronic decoherence, shifts of potential surfaces, and relaxation of wave packets in attached dimers. Moreover, a rea…
The crystal of benzoic acid is comprised of tautomeric centrosymmetric dimers linked through bistable hydrogen bonds. Statistical disorder of the bonding protons is excluded by neutron diffraction from 6 K to 293 K. In addition to diffraction data, vibrational spectra and relaxation rates measured with solid-state-NMR and quasi-elastic neutron scattering are consistent with wave-like, rather than particle-like protons. We present a macroscopic-scale quantum theory for the bonding protons represented by a periodic lattice of fermions. The adiabatic separation, the exclusion principle, and the a…
We investigate the hyperfine energy levels and Zeeman splittings for homonuclear alkali-metal dimers in low-lying rotational and vibrational states, which are important for experiments designed to produce quantum gases of deeply bound molecules. We carry out density-functional theory (DFT) calculations of the nuclear hyperfine coupling constants. For nonrotating states, the zero-field splittings are determined almost entirely by the scalar nuclear spin-spin coupling constant. By contrast with the heteronuclear case, the total nuclear spin remains a good quantum number in a magnetic field. We a…
We calculate harmonic frequencies of the three most abundant carbonic acid conformers. For this, different model chemistries are investigated with respect to their benefits and shortcomings. Based on these results we use perturbation theory to calculate anharmonic corrections at the ωB97XD/aug-cc-pVXZ, X=D,T,Q, level of theory and compare them with recent experimental data and theoretical predictions. A discrete variable representation method is used to predict the large anharmonic contributions to the frequencies of the stretching vibrations in the hydrogen bonds in the carbonic acid dimer. M…
This work concerns \emph{ab initio} calculations of the complete potential energy curve and spectroscopic constants for the ground state $X^1Σ_g^+$ of the beryllium dimer, Be$_2$. High accuracy and reliability of the results is one of the primary goals of the paper. To this end we apply large basis sets of Slater-type orbitals combined with high-level electronic structure methods including triple and quadruple excitations. The effects of the relativity are also fully accounted for in the theoretical description. For the first time the leading-order quantum electrodynamics effects are fully inc…
The dynamics of vibrational wave packets excited in Na2 dimers in the triplet ground and excited states is investigated by means of helium nanodroplet isolation (HENDI) combined with femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. Different pathways in the employed resonant multi-photon ionization scheme are identified. Within the precision of the method, the wave packet dynamics appears to be unperturbed by the helium droplet environment.
